WE have a TON OF POSITIVE REVIEWS! This is our first experience with a guest like this. I have used airbnb for since beta and I have never had a guest or host like Teddy. I have never written a negative review but I must warn you, This is my worst airbnb experience. Do not host him.
Teddy applied to stay for 10 days at StartupHouseOakland. We clearly state in all listing of our rules. We ONLY cater to non smoking, non meat cooking data scientist, engineers, founders, and physicist. A strong tech community. Its a fun crowd lol. Anyway, our listing clearly stated no cooking meat of any kind in the house. I understand people are human and do NOT read so I have a 2 step authentication process (I actually say the exact same thing in a DM exchange prior to them booking, and screen shot it)
Teddy agreed to follow house rules.
Here we go! Sept 29 arrives,
First indicator which I should have cancelled him, He showed up banging on the door at 11 am. (screen shots) My check in is clearly 3pm . He showed up 4 hours early demanding to leave his bags. I was immediately turned off but I am a great host and attempted to accommodate him. Later that evening around 7pm I receive a call from one of the other guest informing me that he is breaking rules by cooking meat in the house. I had to leave a meeting early to handle the situation. I arrive to him attempting to explain to me that he will use my microwave to cook meat. I advise him of the house rules, text him the screen of the dm exchange of which he agreed plus the listing which has everything clearly stated. I politely advise him of the standard rules and tells him he can stay if he follows the rules he signed up for. He proceeds to tell me he does not want to talk to me and to leave him alone. I asked him to leave and he refused to leave and said he will leave in the morning. I called airbnb. Looking back I should have made him exit immediately. . He was rude on multiple occasions, did not follow rules and made the other guys uncomfortable. I will never host him and suggest you do not as well. I have been on non stop calls w airbnb over this guest. I gave him a refund and he still gave me a negative review. They advised I do not review him and hope he goes away. He left a negative review for our house. Because he wanted to cook meat and it is clearly stated that you cannot cook meat in the house. Airbnb was not very helpful in resolving it because they said they cannot remove his rating. Which to me indicates a major flaw; anyone can come to your space violate your rules and THEN rate you low. This has been a very unfortunate situation. I was on the phone with them longer than he was a guest. If he suffers form a mental illness then I can over look his extremely odd behavior , if not he should strive to be a better guest if he continues on this platform. We have hosted over 100 tech professionals and have had excellent experiences, guest it was time for one bad apple!
