A nice and simple place to (home)stay.

The space

Samanmali’s offers 3 double rooms of which 2 have attached bathrooms. Guests can use the terrace and a space outside to have a meal or read a book in the shade. A simple, but nice place.

Interaction with guests

Samanmali’s is run by a caretaker Mrs. Werathunga, who lives in separate quarters with her son, while her husband works abroad. She can arrange safari trips with her Jeep and can take care food upon request.

A basic room close to the road, but adequate for what I needed. Very friendly family and delicious dinner at a exceptional price.

My sister and I stayed with Nishan and his family at Samanmali's for 2 nights. It is a simple home stay in a cottage on the Habarana road. Nishan bent over backwards to help us, gave us great prices for minneriya and lots of advice for other sites and experiences. His mother cooked us some lovely home cooked meals. This place is not fancy! We enjoyed the down to earth vibe here and can recommend the genuine hospitality of this family. Its a little pricey considering the costs of most homestays in Sri Lanka but it was nice to arrive in the country and have somewhere to go. Nishan- don't forget to sort out the mosquito net! And maybe put a little price list up in the room so travellers can see all the things on offer in the area.

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
