Where you’ll be

Arcadia Vale, New South Wales, Australia

Arcadia Vale is situated on the western shore of Lake Macquarie, less than 2 hours drive north of Sydney.

Wangi village is a 2 min drive from us or a pleasant 20 min walk along the waterfront. Although small, it has an IGA, chemist, bakery, butcher, bottle shop, 3 coffee shops, small art gallery, pub, 2 restaurants and two clubs.

The pretty lakeside town of Toronto is 12 mins drive north and has the larger supermarkets, restaurants, boutiques and cafes.

Wangi Wangi (pronounced Wongee) is located on the point you will see directly to the right of Watersedge jetty. Wangi boasts a wide range of shorelines including rocky headlands, bluffs, rock platforms, and coastal lagoons.

Picturesque Wangi provides a peaceful lifestyle against a natural backdrop with surrounding landscapes offering spectacular views, bushwalking, picnicking, camping and abseiling in the Watagan Mountains. The Watagan Mountains incorporates 13 forests, and numerous lookouts and magnificent waterfalls.

Lake Macquarie is surrounded by beautiful bays, beaches, mountains, and the ocean. It is located under 2 hours north of Sydney CBD, 40 minutes south of Newcastle, and 40 minutes from Hunter Valley Wine Country, Australia's premium wine district.

There are a variety of art, craft and farmers markets alternating each weekend around the district.

The Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery hosts local and national exhibitions including workshops, artist talks and performances.
Historic Awaba House restaurant/café & Gallery Shop, sculpture garden & mosaic pathway on 5 hectare of extensive waterfront picnic grounds.

Mandalong Gallery for authentic Aboriginal Art. Investment Art Pieces. Art for all requirements. Didgeridoos - Carvings etc. promoting Indigenous art locally and interstate. Works are sourced directly from the artist where possible.

Lake Macquarie is the largest salt water lake in Australia and is almost 5 times the size of Sydney Harbour. It is 24 km long and has 174 km of foreshore. The western side of Lake Macquarie adjoins the Watagan Mountains. Much of the lake is still surrounded by bushland, some of which is National Park.

Across the lake, directly opposite the boathouse, on the eastern side of the lake, is ‘Pelican’ and ‘Swansea’. The Swansea Channel leads out to the Pacific Ocean.

The Lake Macquarie region offers opportunities for fishing, swimming, water skiing, surfing, boating, hiking, horseback riding, wine tasting, live entertainment, shopping and much more.

Newcastle is NSW second largest city. Walk along the Foreshore promenade, exploring the harbour from Honeysuckle to Nobby’s Beach. The Foreshore Park provides an excellent vantage point to view one of Australia’s busiest ports in action. Watch 300m bulk carriers navigating the harbour and busy tugs plying the waters. Many restaurants and cafés on the waterfront.

Enjoy a picnic in majestic King Edward Park, with its elegant rotunda (c. 1898), hundred year old Norfolk Island Pines, stunning ocean views, beautiful gardens and sweeping lawns. Nearby, The Obelisk, a prominent feature on Newcastle’s skyline, was originally a stone flour mill and a guiding landmark for ships approaching the port.

We are Sandra and Colin, happily retired from Banking and IT, and now operating Watersedge Boathouse B&B on beautiful Lake Macquarie, 90 mins north of the Sydney CBD. We enjoy walking, theatre, dining out, browsing local markets, reading, cooking and socialising with friends. While Colin enjoys his sailing, my favourite pastime is researching our next holiday. We love to travel and experience different cultures, and have been guests in some truly amazing Airbnb properties around the world. In 2019 we walked the Portuguese/Spanish Camino Way, and a boat trip on the Canals du Nivernaisse and Bourgogne, France. Both of these we highly recommend.

During your stay
We are contactable at all times to assist with any issues or to provide information.

When you arrive, there is parking on the driveway of the main house. Knock on the front door, I will give you a key and show you down to the waterfront. Alternatively, you may use the lockbox.

There are 20 (easy) steps, but once there the boathouse is on flat lawn.

Given the current COVID environment, we are encouraging contactless check-in and check-out. The boathouse will be open for you with the keys on the dining table and breakfast provisions will be in the fridge.

The boathouse will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before your arrival.
