Would you kindly ensure your profile is filled in with a photo, and you have verified your ID before placing a booking, thanks.
The flat is situated in between Anton Martín and Lavapies Metro Stations, a trendy area thriving with alternative hand crafted shops, traditional establishments and innovative bars and foodie places. Classic local and uber-modern bars and restaurants are just at walking distance. The local market is making a name for itself on the hugely fashionable Madrid eatery scene. It is easy walking and very close to the 5 main art museums: Reina Sofia, Caixa Forum, Casa Encendida, Museo Thyssen and Museo del Prado, plus a throng of smaller places, pop ups and the stylish and vibrant street art.
My flat is quirky and cozy, with a spacious double bedroom and there is also a sofa bed which settles down into a double. It's great for a couple, a small family or a group of friends. (But please note that the bedroom leads off the sitting room so the sofa bed may not have the privacy for two couples, but is fine for a small family) It's in central Madrid and moments from some of the coolest, most friendly and interesting streets of Madrid. It's a busy neighbourhood and full of life and sound, so it's not the most quiet area of Madrid but the windows are double glazed and the flat is high ( four floors up) above the street, but it's worth considering this if you are looking for a silent part of the city. You can hear the sounds of Madrid’s streets in the apartment, but it’s never disturbing. I never have trouble sleeping there; the mornings are as silent as the rest of Madrid, church bells in the distance, bird’s singing and the far off noises of the street. Be aware that Madrid folk go out late, stay out late and enjoy life and you’ll be fine. The flat is a five minute walk to the modern art museum; ten minutes from the Caxa Forum and a fabulous fifteen minute stroll to the Prado or the Museo Thyssen and all the other cultural attractions of the city are within walking distance. It's a narrow one way street and traffic is restricted to residents of the area. There are lots of local art spaces, music places, trendy galleries, cool graffiti, both small and temporary and some are really funky. There are two metro stations, one at the top and the other bottom of the road so you can get around the city very easily on Madrid's modern, safe and easy to navigate metro system.
The flat is in a traditional part of the city; Lavapies is a very popular neighborhood with a hip and modern vibe which sits in among the older buildings and rhythms of this ancient part of Madrid, each and every street holds a delight.
Lavapies throbs with life, it is full of cafes, restaurants, galleries, shops and the street life is famous in the city for its variety. It is also easy to escape into a quiet square, terrace or roof top and just enjoy the restful warm air. It’s a very LGBT friendly city too and Lavapies has a big LGBT population along with a lot of other ethnicities which make the area very interesting and vibrant. It's the most mixed place in Madrid and has a great vibe to the streets, friendly and exotic.
There is super-fast, very stable WiFi and heating and air conditioning at the apartment too. The Wifi is unlimited and set up in the flat, so you connect immediately and there the service is ultra-reliable and fast in all the rooms. Great if you need to work during your stay. The Aircon also works as a heater in the winter and there is a separate mobile heater if you need more direct warming up. Brand new powerful hairdryer & hair tongs.
It's a cool, inviting space to relax in, my own mix of retro and vintage with everything you will need for a fun comfortable stay is there, and with plenty of little extras should you need them and a lovely vintage record player with a selection of quirky Spanish vinyl for your entertainment. The flat has a shower built over the bath and did I mention also has unlimited internet. There are lots of up to date local maps and guide book for the city, and I always make sure this month’s listing magazine is there, etc.
There is free quality tea, coffee and day to day essentials such as cooking oil, lovely quality Scottish soap (from my Aunt in Great Britain) for the bath, and brand name shampoo and conditioner for your use and a hairdryer and hair tongs too, to save a little space in your luggage.
The double bed is very comfy with extra pillows or blankets if you want them, a huge warm eiderdown to cuddle up in, although it's rarely cold in Madrid to need them. Also there is a large wardrobe and lots of hanging space hidden behind the curtains behind the bed, so there is more than enough storage space. Both balconies look out on the vibrant and exciting streets of Lavapies but have thick black out shutters to keep out the noise and the hot daytime sun.
You are welcome to smoke if you wish but only on the balconies, please do not smoke inside the rooms at all.
All towels and bed linen are provided, and an iron with ironing board for guests use. There's plenty of hot water for a refreshing shower after a day checking out the stunning art collections of the city.
My Wi-Fi is super-fast, the house is quiet and very convenient for travel across Madrid and the rest of Spain. The apartment is a short walk from Atocha railway station which has the super-fast trains to the south of Spain and the rest of Europe.
A taxi from the airport costs only thirty euro and the airport taxi are on a set meter.
The use of the whole apartment, just for you.
Interaction with guests
If any problems arise please contact me on my phone numbers. I am happy to suggest places to visit in Madrid or the out in the countryside, day trips out of the city or secret places within Madrid.
If you need anything for the apartment, or need assistance, in an emergency etc, I will be available, but otherwise I leave my guests to their own relaxing adventures.
I am happy to advise and suggest local stuff, ideas of things that are happening at the time you will be in town, special events, some great shops, secret spaces, museums you have all to yourself, some of the best hidden art galleries and how to access them, and the endless festivals and share my extensive knowledge of the arts, museums and LGBT and gay scene.
Other things to note
This is a traditional building in an old neighborhood and there is no elevator in the building. So there are seven flights of wide old oak stairs up the flat but it is four floors up, so you will be very familiar with the climb. Please consider this when booking but this is a normal part of Madrid life in a classic building such as this one. The aircon is also a heater and can be used as such if it gets colder in the night.
We expect guests to behave properly and not to bother neighbours. The building is residential and we expect people to respect that. Loud noise is not acceptable, no loud music after midnight and there are no parties allowed.
Smoking is only allowed outside on the balcony, please do not smoke inside the rooms at all.
