The Dye House is a charming cottage in an area of outstanding natural beauty, just 3 miles from Bath centre. Walk in along the picturesque canal, take the quirky riverboat from nearby Bathampton or catch a bus. Tucked away privately at the bottom of our large garden, beside a gentle brook, it offers a peaceful, comfortable retreat. There is a pool for summer and a woodburner for winter. And a home cinema with lots of movies for anytime! Happy to help with pointers to make the most of your stay.

The space
Nestled at the bottom of our large garden, the cottage is an 18th century former wool dye-ing house which has been lovingly renovated with a contemporary, timber framed extension. It combines character features with contemporary furnishing.

A large, light studio room, featuring original oak beams, combines sleeping and living with a kingsize bed, sofa, chairs and tables. All cotton bedlinen and towels are provided. We have furnished the Dye House with an eye for comfort and design, texture and colour. A well equipped en-suite kitchen has an oven, toaster, fridge freezer and coffee maker. A separate wet room has a walk-in shower with rain shower head.

There is free WI-FI and you can enjoy the home cinema and an extensive film library. Games including scrabble and cards, guidebooks and local maps are for your use during your stay. A wood burning stove, along with underfloor heating, will keep you warm in the winter months.

Surrounded by trees and nature, with singing birds aplenty, when the sun is shining you can throw open the door onto the wooden deck overlooking the garden and vegetable beds. The garden has some lovely spots to sit and relax and the swimming pool, trampoline and soft tennis/ badminton (shared use with owners) provide additional fun for the summer months.

To welcome you we provide some breakfast goodies, including eggs from our hens and a homemade loaf. We highly recommend our local, family-run cafe, Gather, 10 minutes walk away on the high street for coffee, pastries, breakfasts and lunch. Chris Rich's farm shop is a short walk away for vegetables, fruit and local honey and apple juice.

We will be happy to help you with anything you need to know about the local area including recommendations for the best places to shop, eat, enjoy the vibrant Bath arts scene and walk. The city centre is only 15 minutes by car or taxi, and only a bit longer for the very regular, local buses - or alternatively walk to nearby Bathampton and, in the spring and summer, you can take the river boat direct to Pulteney Weir. You can also walk or cycle straight into the centre of Bath or Bradford-on-Avon along the picturesque canal from Bathampton.

You can enjoy many beautiful countryside, canal and riverside walks from our door. We are situated at the bottom of the famous Solsbury Hill in the peaceful Catherine Valley. On the edge of the Cotswolds - the Cotswolds Way runs close by - we are near many National Trust houses and gardens, aswell as picturesque villages: Dyrham Park, Lacock, Castle Combe, Great Chalfield and Bradford on Avon. Other west country attractions include Stonehenge, Frome, Glastonbury, Wells, Avebury, Longleat House and Safari Park, Westonbirt Arboretum and the Hauser and Wirth gallery, Bruton.

Bath has so much to recommend - from the world-renowned beauty of its Georgian architecture and city planning including the Royal Crescent and Circus, the original Roman Baths and the Thermae Bath Spa, Britain's only modern, natural thermal spa. The city boasts fantastic shopping, gorgeous tea rooms and a huge choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Walk along the Kennet and Avon canal to the city centre, or take the charming river boat. Regular cultural festivals including the Bath Film Festival and the Bath International Arts and Literature Festival. The Bath Theatre Royal and Egg Children's Theatre showcase some of the UK's best theatre, while Komedia is where to head for first rate comedy, music and cabaret. The Holborne Museum and Victoria Art Gallery have permanent collections and touring exhibitions. Bath is an easy city to walk around and has a bus tour and bicycle hire system.

Batheaston village has a newsagents, post office, convenience store, chemist, a couple of pubs, an excellent fish and chip shop and the lovely Gather wholefoods cafe. Good pubs are the Bathampton Mill (you can walk there across the fields), the Crown at Bathford, the Kings Arms at Monkton Farleigh and the King William on the London Road, Bath. One of the many lovely walks from the cottage is to climb up Solsbury Hill and soak up the 360 degree views, including a great aerial view of Bath. A short walk to the foot of the iron age fort (immortalised by local musician Peter Gabriel) will take you past Chris Rich’s farm shop. Larkhall - with its independent delicatessen, butcher and greengrocer - is a 5 minute drive away. Ma Cuisine in Larkhall make delicious, reasonably priced home-cooked meals and patisserie, perfect if you want to have a holiday from cooking.

With excellent local transport, you don’t need a car to stay here; if you do come by car you can park in our drive and then choose how to get around once you're here. Bath Spa train station provides twice hourly trains to London in 90 minutes and regular trains to Bristol in 10 minutes. We are a 45 minute drive from Bristol airport.

The cottage is an ideal get-away for a couple, two friends or a single person. It is perfect if you want to stay within close range of Bath and enjoy all the city has to offer from a peaceful base in some of the most beautiful countryside in the area. We are happy to have babies up to six months (free of charge) and up to 2 additional young people or adults over the age of eleven (extra charge, please ask when you enquire).

PLEASE NOTE:
The cottage is at the bottom of our garden - accessed down a sloping garden and then a boardwalk. It is therefore not recommended for anyone with walking issues or who isn't steady and strong on their legs and feet. In winter months the slope down can be wet and slippery so please come prepared with sturdy shoes.

The Dye House is STRICTLY NON-SMOKING. Please be assured that from re-opening in July we will be adhering to the Airbnb Covid-19 cleaning guidelines.

Guest access
The cottage is self-contained and is totally separate and private from our house.
Our guests are welcome to use the lower garden and to share our swimming pool in the summer (by advance arrangement).

Other things to note
We can point you in the right direction for a whole host of other local attractions including the beautiful Thermae Bath Spa, guided tours to places of interest including Stonehenge and local bike hire for cycle paths along the canal and beyond.

Please note that for bank holiday weekends and during the month of August we request a minimum 3 night booking, for all other bookings the minimum is 2 nights.

Our local neighbourhood Batheaston has a wonderful family run cafe Gather, a couple of pubs (one now does Indian food) and a very good fish and chip restaurant/take away - in addition to a grocery store, chemist and newsagents. Several recommended pubs are a short walk’s distance. There is a delightful farm shop in Northend which sells eggs, honey and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Nearby Larkhall has a great delicatessen, butchers, greengrocers, gift shop and bookshop. And we are very close to Bath itself for a huge choice of shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes, museums, theatre etc etc!
