Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Tucked at the forest edge on a regenerative farm, this strawbale cabin is surrounded by fields, forest, fall colours and farm life — trails, campfires, sheep and chickens, and coyotes howling under the night sky.

Queen bed, living room and open-air kitchenette on the covered porch. Cozy in winter, cool and shady in summer. Solar power provides lighting and phone charging.

Fire pit and picnic table outside, with a simple outhouse a short walk away. Please read Guest Access for details.

The space
Outside your door: a private fire pit, picnic table, and a clean, private outhouse just 20 seconds away.

Built in 2002, this is one of Ontario’s first straw bale buildings — handcrafted with care from natural, breathable materials. Its rounded corners and deep window sills feel like something from the desert Southwest — right here in Southern Ontario.

Explore trails, visit the chickens and sheep, or spend your day resting under the trees.

WATER:
We provide three large jugs of water for drinking, cooking and washing up. If you think you’ll need more, please bring additional water with you.

WOOD STOVE:
The cabin is heated by a cozy wood stove. You’ll need to manage the fire during your stay, and the strawbale construction warms up surprisingly quickly. Operating instructions and indoor firewood are provided.

Outdoor campfire wood is available for $10 a bag at the farm office.

OFF GRID:
-The cabin is solar powered and off grid.
-There are no standard electrical outlets.
-There's a main light switch inside and pull chains for lighting different areas.
- Two USB ports are available for charging small devices.

Need to recharge a CPAP or other essential device? Just ask — we can help.

Neighbourhood highlights

On one side of the cabin is a pristine provincially-protected cedar forest wetland. On the other side are rolling hills sprinkled with gorgeous veggie fields, hedgerows, and pastureland.
We are at the headwaters of the Credit River. At the top of the property, you can see for miles. Trails connect all the wonders of the property - glorious sunsets, forest walks, wide open fields, nature exploration, foraging, wildlife sightings, and a creek that runs year-round in the upland forest at the back of the property.

Fun fact: The world is full of kind people
I’m a regenerative farmer, a teacher, and a believer in the power of community. One of my favourite things about travelling is being open to unique and often-unplanned experiences and making connections with people. Simple things like a shared smile with a passing stranger, or discovering a unique salsa at a roadside taco stand.
