Our first experience with Solmaz involved getting extricated from the elevator by a repairman - though the malfunction was no fault of her own, she was apologetic the whole way through and took charge of the situation by calling the elevator company until they arrived. She demonstrated from the very beginning that she genuinely cares for her guests.
The apartment is cozy and gorgeous with antique-looking wood trim and high windows. We used the kitchen to cook often and the washing machine works well, too. It's a bit smaller than it appears in the photos.
The location is the real sell: right in the centre of Lyon in the heart of the best cafes, bouchons (we recommend Cafe des Fédérations) and boutiques. You'll walk by twenty-somethings breakdancing outside the opera house every other day.
The one not-so-great feature of the place is the bed - the stairs on the ladder ascending to it are very narrow (tricky to navigate during those 3am bathroom trips!) and the mattress has buttons sewn on the outside. Watch your head when getting into bed (and your feet too, if you're tall!)
All in all, we'd definitely return for the location, Solmaz' good communication and the homey feel of the place.
We just won't take our chances with that ancient elevator again!
