A snug timber cottage 50m from the water's edge, front row seats to unequalled mountain and ocean views. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds, professionally cleaned linen. Operating since 2015 without a complaint.
The reason we have several days between bookings is so we can air Abel's Cabin and thoroughly clean and paying special attention to surfaces, switches etc.

The space
The southern end of Bruny Island is by far the best and Abel's Cabin is close to some of its best attractions.

The island's only winery, the most southern one in Australia, is a short walk away. Apart from tasting their wines they have a bistro that is open every day for lunch. The wallaby and lamb burgers (known as wooly jumpers) are to die for. The reserve pinot is dangerously drinkable...

The island's only hotel is 5km away at Alonnah (you pass it on the way). Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Local fish, sometimes scallops in season, are fabulous.

Cloudy Bay and the lighthouse in the National Park make for lovely outings, both within a 30m drive through beautiful rural and forest countryside.

There are gorgeous beaches to walk on and enjoy the seascapes and the views are to the west so the sunsets are often memorable, especially from the comfort of the Cabin.

There's a lot to see and do, including a memorable 3hour boat trip (details in the cabin) at Adventure Bay, which is a 15 minute drive away.

Guest access
You have the run of Abel's Cabin and the mature gardens.

There is a handy shop in Alonnah on the way from the ferry, just before the hotel, where bread, milk etc are available.

There is a well-stocked small supermarket at Adventure Bay with fruit and vegies, meat and occasionally, fresh fish. The only place for fuel supplies, including a charging station for electric vehicles.

Abel's Cabin is well equipped for cooking and the pantry has a supply of culinary stuff like oils salt pepper etc and if you need some particular cooking utensil you can't find just give us a call as we live only a minute away. There are some herbs growing in the back garden. Help yourself to any ripe fruit too.

Other things to note
Licensed: We have passed the rigorous health and safety standards of the local authority and are approved and licensed to operate.

If you are staying for more than two days we will pop by to make sure you have what you require.

In the evenings there are little furry things that inhabit the garden. They are in no way dangerous if left alone. They include possums, wallabies and rabbits. They can be quite friendly, especially when helping themselves to the fruit trees and other tasty treats like the roses!

Many years ago a Finnish man bought a big property fronting Cemetery Road and over the years he subdivided and sold it to Finnish friends who had settled in Tasmania.
Abel's Cabin is right in Little Finland and in fact was owned by a Finnish woman and her husband until we bought it in mid-2015. We took out their sauna and renovated the bathroom, but the cabin remains like many of the Finnish homes nearby, timber throughout.
The water out front is tidal and it's fun to walk on the sand at low tide. There is a safe, sandy and attractive swimming beach 1km further along Cemetery Road. You can drive there and park.

Kim is retired, while Victoria works at the Bruny health centre as associate nurse manager. We renovated our beach shack in 2013 and moved from Hobart to become part of the small community on Bruny Island, off the south east coast of Tasmania. We are late-comers to airbnb and are attracted by the great technology and its offer of being able to converse with folks who have entrusted us with their properties. We like this grassroots approach to travel.
