Everyone's top favorite room! Located on the first floor. The biggest room of all with an attic floor, and has an attached bathroom.

The space

Fully restored since July 2015, Mori Residence is a boutique guesthouse combined with tea house hidden on a quiet street of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Malacca, namely Jalan Kampung Kuli. The many residents living along the street today are of sentimental value, constituting a very interesting neighborhood.

“Mori” refers to the woods in Japanese, also translated as forest. The dominant element in the boutique guesthouse and tea house is wood to match its modern and heritage design. It has a total of five fully air-conditioned rooms, one of which has an attic as its distinctive feature. Each room comes with a private bathroom. The tea house on the ground floor is perfect for chilling over a cup of tea in a comfortable environment. Our guests are also entitled for a session of free tea ceremony (during specific days and times only).

The boutique guesthouse and tea house is only two-minute walk to Jonker Street (night market). It is located in close proximity to the major tourist attractions and famous eateries in Malacca, making it an ideal place for your family and friends to fully experience what the heritage city has to offer.

I stayed in Mori 1, a room with attic, with my family. It's a fun experience! We stayed there for 1 night only. The place is extremely close to Jonker Street! We actually bought a lot of souvenirs, walked back to put down our things, before heading out to the night market again. From the map it looks a little far, but in reality it's only 5 minutes away. Mori is also very close to a little breakfast shop (Lung Ann), making it extra convenient. I like the quiet atmosphere of the place. The ground level is an eatery. As you know it's pretty warm in Malacca, so when we first entered Mori and was welcomed with cool air and jazz music in the background, it instantly made me feel relaxed and at ease. You have to take off your shoe before you enter Mori, but they also provide you with indoor slippers that you can wear. There is a bathroom in our room, but we also used the one in the common area (as there were 5 of us). One thing to take note of: remember to switch off the heater after using it! I heard weird noises at night, only to realize it's the water heater. On the logistics side, if you are arriving in Malacca during peak hour, make sure to factor in extra time. The roads are narrow and traffic is slow. Other than that, I'd like to thank Daphne for replying so quickly at all times. She is very helpful! Zi Ying, our receptionist was friendly and nice too, making us feel welcomed and at home. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

We loved Mori do much we stayed a second time. Room 1 was perfect for us - two couples and two children (6 in total). Air-conditioning was deliciously cool. Vegetarian food in downstairs restaurants was delicious too. Mort's sister café just around the corner was a favourite of the kids (French toast and pancakes).

We had a wonderful stay here. 4 adults and two children. It was a perfect sanctuary for a delightful visit to Melaka.

Stayed at Mori 1 for 3D2N. Overall, it is a very good place if you have a group of friends traveling together. There's a common area for you to gather at for some food and relaxation. The common pantry comes with cups, plates, bowls and utensils. The place is also fully air-conditioned, making it a good place to rest from the heat of Melaka. Not to forget that the wifi signal is good. Keeping connected is so important! Mori Kaya is also very strategically located. Jonker street is a stone's throw away. Breakfast is easily available with an old-school coffee shop just diagonally across Mori Kaya. You should try out the traditionally-styled breakfast! Our check-in was smooth and we managed to check-in as soon as the room is available. Check-out process was also made easy for us. The drawbacks for us are: 1. The place is heavily infested with mosquitoes. We had to go out and purchase mosquitoes repellent in order to have a good night's sleep in the room. We suspect that the mosquitoes has flown in from the sky roof at the attic. There's a small portion of the sky roof which cannot be closed, leaving a gap for mosquitoes to come in. 2. The bathroom wasn't ideal. The shower head is very oddly positioned at the side of the toilet bowl. Cleanliness may not be the best as the bathroom looked kind of poorly maintained. Flooring of the bathroom is also very painful to step on. Sewage wasn't good as well and the strong stench spread to the room when we left the toilet door opened.

Mori 1 with Attic was as portrayed in Airbnb and we really loved it. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. It was a great place to stay for a weekend getaway with a group of friends. Its really nice that we could stay together in one room like having a slumber party. The fact that its only a walking distance to the city centre we didnt have to spend alot of time in the car to go anywhere.
