The Raspberry House is located in Burnside, Bonavista Bay, NL. It is on Route 310 and is one of the seven communities on the Eastport Peninsula and is adjacent to Terra Nova National Park. It is famous for kayaking and less than an hour from a golf course. The house is in excess of a hundred years old. We have been, and continue, to lovingly restore it over the last few years. It got its name due to the abundance of raspberries that grow on the property and was named by my niece Chloe.

The space
This house was built by my grandfather and it is where he and my grandmother raised their family of four boys. My family and I started living there when I was ten years old along with my grandparents. When I became the proud owner, I made the decision to keep the house and improve it. As a result it has been restored and carefully maintained. It is a two story home with three bedrooms (located upstairs) , one bathroom (located on main floor). It has many architectural features specific to homes built over a century ago. Even though a lot of renovations have been done, we have worked hard to keep the character of the house as it was as is shown by grandmother's pantry, exposed beams, original staircase to name a few.

Guest access
The house has a large yard, a bbq and is very close to salt water. Beach towels and folding chairs are provided. Also a high chair and playpen are available upon request. We have a no pet policy. Ten minutes drive will take you to three beautiful white sandy beaches - in Eastport North, Eastport and in Sandy Cove. Sandy Cove also has a freshwater swimming pond - Crooked Tree Park. There are great places to eat - Gerties Galley, Downhome Delights and The Inn in Happy Adventure. Most times at the Inn you need reservations. There are two gas stations one in Eastport and one in Sandringham as well as a Eastport Drugstore/Liquor Store. There are two grocery stores in Eastport. There is also The Beaches Heritage Centre which offers fantastic entertainment (booking tickets ahead of time is recommended). Within a half an hour on the Trans Canada Highway, there is a water slide - Splash and Putt - as well as a diner.

Location

Burnside, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Burnside is a very beautiful quiet community with a year round population of less than fifty. The summertime sees many more people both visiting for the first time as well as family returning for vacations especially during the cod fishing times. People take great pride in their property and community and you can always find someone to chat with. People are welcoming and kind. We also have a post office, a beautiful church - St. Alban's Anglican Church - and our original school house which now serves as a church hall. It is also the ferry terminal for St. Brendan's. This is an hour long affordable ride to an island community. It provides a great opportunity to take a picnic and explore the island.
