Live like you are staying in an upgraded King's suite hotel with a courtyard and the modern comforts of home. Close the storefront shutters for complete solitude after enjoying urban living with a short drive to the city's strip district.

The space
This is a 'Residential' space in front of our Historic German Cemetery. It would require driving @8 blocks in order to get to a business district (markets, bars & restaurants).

We purchased this only brick house in the Troy Hill District when I was 27 and Russ was 23. We bought it for $4000 from the sister of the "Handyman" that had lived here for 95 years. He served under General Patton and we found his honorable metals and gave it to Milly (his sister).

We gutted the space and it took us maybe 5 years (we had other jobs) to fully complete it for it's first tenant.

It's had many 're-do's':
1) Emergency housing - for many of our friends and workers who needed temporary help.
2) 2 years with a VP of Operations of a cool startup - He filled the front porch with flowers & everyone knew him in the neighborhood!
3) Our Construction Company Offices - It housed 5 desks and architectural drawings on the spacious walls.
4) Now... an Airbnb.

How cool. It's been fully remodeled, given a new coat of paint, and fully furnished with mostly 'loved' stuff we've collected through the years. And we've enjoyed it thoroughly. We already have a plan for 'Lowrie Studio Court' 2.0!

Courtyard is not the sanctuary I've envisioned, but getting there. The fountain makes such a wonderful sound...

We hope we have thought of everything that we would enjoy if we were traveling. We tend to be spoiled and tried to consider everything - down to quality shampoo, a good coffee, and lots of outlets. Hope we meet and you enjoy our little urban sanctuary as much as Russell, I and the kids do!

Guest access
The studio entrance is the main door, but there is an additional back door. The courtyard has it's own entrance and that's how the 2nd floor guests enter.

Other things to note
SECURITY CAMERA: We provide a ring system peephole. It faces outward towards the street. It's mainly used for deliveries and such, but we believe it can also be helpful for guests that may have forgotten their code, or having trouble with the keyless entry. I always honor your privacy!

CONSTRUCTION: At the time of this posting, we do have some challenges with designing a waterfall that we can both can agree on, but it's still nice.

LAUNDRY: If you do have a need for laundry, there is a laundromat a few blocks away. A convenience store is next door for detergent.

The community is being highlighted, as the next up-and-coming spot. It has a ways to go, but there is so much history, as well as new transients, like us, who are trying to revitalize it. You will see all sorts of people, and because of our unique location (across from cemetery), it's not as blocked in as the other houses you'll see as you drive in.

Location

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

Lowrie Studio Court is located in Pittsburgh's Historic German District. It's now a mixture of all economic levels and racial ethnicity. Our 2 new restaurants opened on 'the hill'. One is called 'scratch' where even the ketchup is made from scratch. Additionally, you can go right to the bottom and get an authentic German dinner and amazing 'Penn Brewery' beer. There is a nice outdoor courtyard and some nights have live music.

Stay on the Northside: East Ohio Street offers "the Bistro to go" for amazing already prepared foods. Explore the areas jazz bars. Or drive further and visit the Children's Museum or the National Aviary. A few more blocks and you're at the Andy Warhol Museum and then the Stadiums and our Casino!

Go over the bridge and you'll be in our Strip District. Park on Penn ave or Smallman and walk through to get a good taste of our local ethnic markets. Our convention center is only a few blocks away from the strip. It's not difficult to walk anywhere from there to experience the Opera, or Symphony.

Drive (or bike) over the 31st bridge and you'll find the most progressive neighborhood, Lawrenceville. On Butler street, you'll find unique shops and restaurants.

Want to be in a more 'party' atmosphere? Take a drive to the South side of Pittsburgh, on Carson, where there are the most bars and head shops per square mile than in any other location of Pittsburgh.

Want to be a true tourist? Get a front view of the city, eat at Pittsburgh's Hard Rock Cafe, while watching an amazing musical fountain..., all at 'Station Square' (still on South side). In the afternoon, take a 'Ducky Tour' right from there and see the city from a river view! It's truly worth the ride!

There is just so much. If you tell us your interests and where you want to go, you'll be amazed at how this studio is an awesome location to get to many of those attractions.

Hi! I am a fearless & eager traveler. I have moved all my life. My family adopted me from Vietnam when I was 5. My new parents were American & Japanese & father was commander in the Navy. We never stayed anywhere longer than 4 years. I was blessed to live in places like Japan and Hawaii, so I count it as a wonderful way to live. Now that I'm in my late 40's, with a partner of 21 years and twins (8yrs old in 2015), I don't 'get out much'. I've called Pittsburgh my home, but spent much of my work life traveling as well (as a strategic plng consultant). That took me all over the US (mainly from Chicago to NY) and 6months in China (throughout). So, I don't need the best of anything, but appreciate all the little details when provided. Due to half of my relatives being Japanese, I tend to lean towards the simple and clean. And as I age, I have embraced my inner hippie and truly enjoy the moment with more acceptance and playfulness. Airbnb is something that truly seems like such a win-win situation and I am currently enthralled and excited for the opportunity to experience this! I consider a person's space as their own sanctuary. I have opened my home in the same way, so as social creatures, I think it's all good.... Who knows what can happen when kindred spirits meet? My children and husband are mirrors of me in that respect....loving to meet people. Thanks for reading! More 'stats' on me: Eat basically anything - but trying to be mindful of my body and mother-earth. Books - tend to now be all on audio & political, educational, or inspirational. Movies - Documentaries, Anime, and most fantasies (from star wars to frozen) Shows - not enough time or $ for broadway, so if it's tv shows, not much any more. If pressured, I'd have to say Daily Show, old-Arrested Development, old-Six Feet Under... Life Motto? Never think I could have one, to be honest... I believe in phases and changes. I don't think anyone/anything remains the same....and thus all is good...
