Madhuvan is a Bhakti yoga ashram located on a 150-acre ridge-top property in Belén de Nosarita, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica.
The Ashram was founded in 2007 by Swami Tripurari and his students, and since then we’ve worked on developing a self sufficient community along the principle of simple living and high thinking.
Madhuvan is in what is called a dry tropical forest.
Howler monkeys, pizotes, armadillos, and iguanas are some of the wild species that can be seen and heard here. Depending on what time of the year you come, there are different kinds of trees flowering in their certain colors, exotic birds such as toucans coming through and some variations in temperature and humidity.
We have a small herd of Jersey and Zebu cows that roam freely on the mountain pastures all year around. We cherish the traditional ideal of non-violence (ahimsa) and so the cows are allowed to age with dignity and live as part of the herd before, during and after their time milking.
You can follow them on socials :)
We have a garden and several fruit tree orchards, growing different types of banana, mango, pineapple, starfruit, papaya, citrus, coconut, avocado, greens, grains and roots.
And last but not least, we have two dogs, two cats and a horse.
The temple is the hub of our activities. We gather here every morning, noon, and evening for prayers and meals. The mantras and songs we sing (kirtan) are in the Bengali and Sanskrit languages and at the morning and evening programs (6am and 6pm daily) the five elements of nature are offered to the Deities on the altar.
You are invited to come and be here for these ceremonies, either as a curious observer or as an active participant.
