Madhuvan is a Bhakti yoga ashram located on a 150-acre ridge-top property in Belén de Nosarita, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica.

Madhuvan is in a dry tropical forest. Howler monkeys, pizotes, armadillos, and iguanas are some of the wild species that can be seen and heard here. Depending on what time of the year you come, there are different kinds of trees flowering in their certain colors, exotic birds such as toucans. We have a garden and several fruit tree.

The space
We have five (5) independent rentals in total. The cabins are simple and elegant. Made of block and local teak wood, the decor is bright and natural. Each cabin has two beds and full bathroom facilities with hot water running to showers. Clean bedding and towels are provided. Because we are off the electric grid, cabins provide limited access to high voltage/amperage devices (hair dryers, electric cooking devices, etc.).

Guest access
Our cabins are situated separately from the monastic residents' facilities, and while well within the jungle in a stunning tropical setting, they are also accessible by any four-wheel drive vehicle. Currently we have five cabins for rent. Rental cabins are a ten minute walk to the temple and dining facilities. The terrain is relatively steep and not wheelchair accessible.

WiFi is available in each cabin as well as the common areas.
A washing machine and dryer available for use once a day.
Home cooked meals with the monastics are an option. The price for three complete vegetarian or vegan meals a day is $25 dollars.

During your stay
We welcome all guests to walk freely throughout our 150 acres, bathe in our 100-foot waterfall and natural 2500-square-foot pool at the bottom of the falls (seasonal Sept.- Jan.). There is also free access to local streams and amazing waterfalls with greater capacity about 10 minutes drive from Madhuvan. Guests are free to learn about our animal husbandry, visit our dairy and gardens, and learn from our residents about the various fruits, flowers, and fauna of this region of Central America. Hiking and horseback riding are also an option.

The temple is the hub of our activities. We gather here every morning, noon, and evening for prayers and meals. The mantras and songs we sing (kirtan) are in the Bengali and Sanskrit languages and at the morning and evening programs (6am and 6pm daily) the five elements of nature are offered to the Deities on the altar.

You are welcome to come if you wish, and be here for these ceremonies, either as a curious observer or as an active participant.

Other things to note
The cabins and the community here are at the very end of the road this side of the valley. We are placed in a very quiet and secluded area far away from any other neighbors. This is the perfect place "to get away from it all" and really get in touch with a more spiritual and natural state of mind and body. Madhuvan is a perfect place for writers, poets, artists, bird watchers, and anyone who needs peace, quiet and natural beauty.

Where you’ll be

Belen district, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

We are at the end of an unpaved public road that climbs steeply approximately one kilometer to reach our front gate. Madhuvan is about 25 minutes from the main road between Nicoya and Samara (HWY 150). A four-wheel drive vehicle is necessary to drive to our gate.

We can arrange to pick guests up at the bottom of the mountain where two-wheel drive vehicles can easily reach (for an extra charge of $5). We can also pick up guests at the bus stop in the nearest town, Belén De Nosarita (for an extra charge of $7). Four-wheel drive taxis are also available from the Liberia Airport or from Belén to our gate. And if you are adventurous, you can also rent a quad to get up the hill.

Madhuvan is a Bhakti yoga ashram located on a 150-acre ridge-top property in Belén de Nosarita, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica. The Ashram was founded in 2007 by Swami Tripurari and his students, and since then we’ve worked on developing a self sufficient community along the principle of simple living and high thinking. Madhuvan is in what is called a dry tropical forest. Howler monkeys, pizotes, armadillos, and iguanas are some of the wild species that can be seen and heard here. Depending on what time of the year you come, there are different kinds of trees flowering in their certain colors, exotic birds such as toucans coming through and some variations in temperature and humidity. We have a small herd of Jersey and Zebu cows that roam freely on the mountain pastures all year around. We cherish the traditional ideal of non-violence (ahimsa) and so the cows are allowed to age with dignity and live as part of the herd before, during and after their time milking. You can follow them on socials :) We have a garden and several fruit tree orchards, growing different types of banana, mango, pineapple, starfruit, papaya, citrus, coconut, avocado, greens, grains and roots. And last but not least, we have two dogs, two cats and a horse.
