The bus is even better than advertised. Top-shelf cleanliness and a true Alaskan experience. I would reccommend it to anyone. I will stay here again if I come to Anchorage

Bessie, the bus, is a fantastic place to both retreat and use as a home base for experiencing Anchorage. Despite its compact size, it's very comfortable and outfitted with everything you might need, and nothing you don't. I loved it so much that I spent an entire day where I didn't even leave. Theresa was great about making sure I had everything I need. I hope to have an opportunity to come back some day.

Nellie is an absolute dream and Theresa and Carlyle and absolutely wonderful hosts! I stayed on Nellie for most of a week while on a much needed vacation in Alaska, and it was such a perfect setting for rest and tranquility. The bus is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with everything you need to be comfortable — so many small touches, from a pitcher of olive oil or freshly ground coffee to eye masks near the bed to ward off the 18hr sun in the summer! It was delightfully cozy and homey in the best of ways. The camp shower and compost toilet are definitely a bit more rustic than you might be used to, but are very usable and much more comfortable than you might expect! And really, Theresa and Carlyle's hospitality and friendliness are what make this place so lovely. They are so willing to answer questions or give advice about things to do and see in the area, and really made me feel welcome. I couldn't have asked for better hosts in Anchorage!

Theresa and Carlyle were such welcoming hosts! They offered some great suggestions for a day trip we had planned and even hooked is up with a few beers and pastries from a local bakery afterwards. Nellie was such a fun place to stay. Small, yet extremely cozy. We had a blast!

The most serene, warm and rustic "tiny house" getaway. Every detail on the bus is lovingly curated - from the hardwood floors, to the throw pillows, tapestries, placemats and butterfly magnets. Theresa and Carlyle were welcoming and gracious hosts. They had warm cookies, coffee, almond and whole milk waiting for me. Their binder is full of excellent recommendations for local eats and small shops. They let me borrow one of their bikes and hit the trails; then, when dear friends road tripping through AK with their dog came to visit, they allowed me to share a night with them on Nellie. It was an unforgettable vacation.

Y'all, Nellie is really cool. Location-wise: nothing was more than a 12 minute slow-city drive away. There is a big grocery store that is within a walkable distance but is a two minute drive (literally) away. Nellie is sitting in the driveway, backed up against a little vegetable garden and some lilacs. She's right in between two houses, but we never heard any noise at all except some cooing chickens in the morning (not roosters!, just clucks-clucks, nice noise) and once we heard a garbage truck. Beyond that, it's completely residential so street noise is almost nonexistent. Comfort-wise: GREAT BED. So cozy, you're in a little bed cave, but airy and light. Perfect for reading and sleeping. In darker months I guess you would need more lighting for two people to read, but in the summer it was no problem. Other amenities are there as needed, paper products, nice soap products, brand-new sponge for dishes. The kitchen was missing a few things but I let Theresa know and I'm sure by the time you're there, those few items will be around. It was very thoughtfully stocked with good olive oil, excellent coffee and lots of spices (loved that!). She's very responsive. While there is no plumbing, there is plenty of drinking water stocked in the bus and the kitchen sink is hooked up to a hose that gives you cold water with the turn of the tap, so you don't have to put on your shoes to go wash the dishes. The stove is (auto lighting) gas so it was very quick to heat up water for washing or drinking. The shower was cold, we added enough stove-warmed water to make it not bad-cold and it was fine for us. Good soap and towels! I read lots of reviews here before picking Nellie for our vacation. Everyone seemed pretty gung-ho about the toilet. In person, I didn't love it so much. I've used compost toilets but have never had to empty one. I didn't realize that I would need to be tying off the bags and taking them out to the trash. On the balance, it was worth the "WHAT!?" factor, to have the cozy and functional space and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
