Neighbourhood highlights
Welcome to Salt Spring Island!
Salt Spring is the largest and best-known island of the Gulf Islands. Known for its largely unspoiled forests and beaches, Salt Spring is populated by free spirited, easy going, everyday folk who truly experience west coast living. Filled with wineries, hills, specialty food producers, coffee shops, spas, pottery shops, Barb’s Buns, the Tree House Café, and of course the Saturday Market – Salt Spring has lots to see and do.
Mountains:
Mt Erskine has almost 240 hectares of protected land with a variety of trails. It’s a fairly easy hike and once you react the top you won’t be disappointed by the view! On the way up, keep your eye out for fairy doors as the mountain is home to Erskine the Elf! Another great mountain to check out is Mt Maxwell as it is the tallest point on the island. By taking a turn on Rainbow road you are able to drive all the way up the mountain.
Saturday Market:
Take a trip into Ganges on a Saturday and you’ll come across the Saturday Market in Centennial Park. There are over 150 vendors who display their handmade or hand-grown products. On from April to October, rain or shine.
Shopping:
Of course you’ll find an array of shops in Ganges, but you can actually find shops all over the island. Many shops are right inside the owner/artist’s home. There are also a collection of shops by Fulford Harbour which is 20 minutes from Ganges.
For a list of wineries, restaurant, water activities and other things to do check out http://www.saltspringtourism.com/ or stop in the office and someone will gladly tell you about all the fun things to do during your stay on the island.
