This apartment is in a great location both for the stunning views and access to shops and restaurants. The hills in Cortona are very steep, which can be a problem at times, but the apartment is on a street that allows an easy climb from the piazzas below, if you are willing to walk just a little bit farther to avoid the steepest hills. If you have serious difficulties with stairs, this is not the apartment for you, but the climb to the top floor is well worth it for the view. Be sure to let Maddalena know in advance that you will want to use the clothes washer. There is a clothes line at the windows, which is all very convenient if you like to travel light. The kitchen is well equipped; I made coffee every morning and prepared one or two large meals. It was quite hot when I was in Cortona (30C in the afternoons), but the cross ventilation provided by lots of windows made sleeping comfortable at night even without air-conditioning.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Maddalena's place. It has a glorious view over the valley and to Lago Trasimeno. There was tea, coffee and biscuits left for breakfast. It is a very large space with much character and was fun to stay in. Maddalena's lovely mother was there to let us in and help us out. Also, Maddalena messaged us to make sure that all was well.

Everything about or stay at Maddalena's place was fantastic. The location, the view, the layout of the apartment were all great. We were on the top floor in a quiet area, yet very close to the center of town. If you are worried about parking, don't be. We were able to drive to the front door and pull over into a little nook, unload the car, and then go park in the lot outside of the city walls. We used the Spirito Santo parking area. Here is the best way that we found to get to the unit. Enter the city from the north at the Porta Colonia. Continue down Via Dardano. Turn left on Via Guiseppe Maffei. The apartment will be on your right about 150 yards past the church. Keep in mind, the streets are steep and very narrow, and cars are parked in some places. I was driving a somewhat larger car, and it was a tight fit. Just put on your Italian driving skills and it won't be a problem. Getting to the parking area, there is an impossibly tight hairpin turn at the Piazza Garibaldi. I don't know if it was "legal" but I made a sort of pull forward, then reverse down the street until I could make a turn in the piazza. Anyway, I highly recommend the place.

Cortona is a beautiful medieval town with plenty to explore and Maddalena's apartment is charming and ideally situated. I spent a month there, also working and writing. For me, it was a lovely home away from home. The view from the windows is spectacular. There is no aircon but the fan worked fine for me - in what was Italy's record-breaking summer heatwave. Being able to open windows on three sides means you get the cross-breeze. Maddalena was only a message away and her lovely aunt was downstairs and really helpful. Tip: If you're coming from the train station, remember to catch the bus for Piazza Garibaldi- I accidentally took the other one and ended up down the bottom end. It's a long walk up. Better still splash out 12€ for the taxi and get driven to the door. I would definitely return to Cortona and Maddalena's.

We recently spent two months in beautiful Cortona. The apartment is in a quiet part of the town but within walking distance to everything. It is very light and spacious, has very large rooms but the best feature is the amazing view of the lake and valley below. Although we did not have the opportunity to meet the owner, Maddalena, she was very kind and always available to us. We are looking forward to returning soon.

Maddalena's place was in the perfect location. Literally steps from city center. We were warmly welcomed and even provided a wifi router. The view is amazing! Our only recommendation is that you leave the windows open at night as it is quite hot in summer. If you wish to stay in the heart of Cortona, this is a great option.
