Enjoy the charming town of Bayfield from the vantage point of a sailboat that is moored in a central location that puts you in walking distance from everything the town has to offer.

The space
Full disclosure: A night on a sailboat is more like high-class camping than it is to sleeping at a B&B. It's not for everybody. But if you don't mind roughing it a bit, it is a great experience in a beautiful location.

IMPORTANT: It is not feasible for me to provide fresh bedding, so you are responsible for bringing sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, etc... Being on Lake Superior, it's best to assume that the nights will be chilly, though there is a little space heater on-board that can warm things up a bit.

With beautiful interior woodwork, comfortable sitting/sleeping spaces, and an expansive view of the Bayfield waterfront, this 32 foot sailboat provides a unique Lake Superior experience. The downtown restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries and other stores are a short walk away. And the view of the lake that extends out to Madeline Island and beyond will make you feel more connected to the water than any downtown hotel room possibly could.

Guests are expected to provide their own bedding and linens, utilize the bathroom / shower facilities that are provided by the marina on shore, and to leave the boat in the same clean condition that they found it. If you do your part to make this arrangement work, then no cleaning fee will be charged and the security deposit will be fully refunded. Otherwise it will be retained as compensation for the effort of making the boat ready for the next guests.

Also, being a 32' boat, it is a comfortable space for two average height adults, and while it can accommodate three, it will a bit tight.

Food preparation and storage facilities include an icebox, sink, and propane grill in the cockpit. Currently there is no stove or oven for use within the cabin. Bayfield has many great restaurants and snack shops within a few minutes walk from the boat.

There is electricity to power any devices that you want to bring along.

Guest access
Guests will have access to bathroom and shower facilities at the marina, which is a short walk from the boat slip.

I've relaxed the boat toilet restriction a bit, as I realize that it’s a long walk to the marina toilets in the middle of the night if you have to pee. Rather than making the onboard toilet totally off-limits, I ask that you try to avoid using it if at all possible. So during the day, please use the marina facilities, and in the middle of the night feel free to use it for #1 but not #2 (i.e. Nothing brown going down!) This will help keep the boat smelling pleasant for the next guests, as I will not always be able to pump out the septic system between visits.

Other things to note
Being in a downtown marina does bring a certain noise factor, as there is music on weekend nights from the nearby Bayfield Inn, the sound of the Madeline Island ferry arriving/departing, and the noises from other boats shifting in their slips. Nevertheless, everybody seems to quiet down by 11 pm (even on weekends), and I've found it quite easy to get a good night's sleep.

I work in Information Technology for a major airline. The travel perks are great, though it can be a challenge to find time to take advantage of them. When I'm not hopping a plane somewhere, I'm probably packing the car to enjoy paddling, sailing, or just relaxing around the Bayfield area.

I currently do not offer any options for sailing, either bareboat or with captain. Hopefully someday soon...
