The space
My husband and I called it “The Big Apple” because when we left New York City for Oregon (once upon a very long time ago) we felt we’d really made it. We had achieved the dream, we'd arrived!

A fertile fruit growing area, Hood River County is also known as a year round mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Its north border is the scenic Columbia River Gorge, summer fun site for world class wind surfing, kite boarding, kayaking, rafting, stand-up paddle boarding, sailing, and fishing. The southern border encompasses Mount Hood where winter fun in the snow includes x-country, down hill, alpine and back country skiing, snowboarding, and snow shoeing. All season fun includes road and mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, micro brews and wine tasting, the springtime fruit Blossom Fest and autumn Harvest Fest.

Our "Big Apple" small family farm is located in the middle of this beautiful valley, twelve minutes uphill from downtown and the river, and thirty minutes downhill from the closest of Mount Hood’s several ski slopes.

Hidden away among towering trees, the storybook farmhouse offers the comforts of home - a separate entrance to the cozy "Iris room" for two, a full-size bed featuring feather bed, and a private bath with clawfoot tub/shower. The 9am breakfast features our own fresh eggs and home baked treats.

Come home to the farm, meet the critters, try “woofing” in the garden without having to rough it. Feel the magic of this gentle land overlooked
by the volcanic power of Mount Hood. Sample country living in style The Big Apple way.

Guest access
Your 15x9 room and adjoining bath are completely private with private entrance. You are invited to roam the gardens and interact with the critters.

Other things to note
Depending on the season, you may be able to go home with produce or plant starts.

Originally from the original Big Apple, New York City, we've been here at our own "Big Apple" for 40+ years. I am an avid gardener/organic farmer, children's book writer, had a restaurant downtown for 10 years, and home schooled our 2 dancer daughters through high school. We love animals, and presently run something of a retirement farm for 2 sheep and 2 alpaca, overseen by a young guard llama. There's a young group of hens and ducks that will provide your breakfast eggs. The spicy chicken girls are Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Ginger, Pepper, Saffron, and Poppyseed. The white duck is Ritz Quacker and her pal the brown one is Graham Quacker. The poultry and I wrote a children's book!
