Our recommended accommodation is "Gassho-zukuri house", a world cultural heritage, and operated as Minsyuku (Japanese style Inn). It is located at the center of "Ogimachi" which is the main part of the world cultural heritage village. Price includes dinner & breakfast.

Interaction with guests

We also need to serve guests other than Air BnB guests as we are Minsyuku. So we are sorry that we cannot attend you all the time.
Also please note that we don't speak English well but will try our best to welcome you.

Other things to note

*This is Minsyuku, Japanese style Inn, in Shirakawago, which remains for more than 200 years. As the house is part of the world cultural heritage, it is maintained in a traditional way. Therefore, our facility is not something you expect in city area but rather you would get the real sense of countryside village life.
*We don't have private bathroom. One bathroom is shared by all guests. It is not Onsen. If you want to go to Onsen, we give you a discount ticket for public onsen neareby.
*Please note that our rooms are separated by Japanese paper sliding doors only and so sounds easily resonates.
*During the winter period, the house gets extremely cold so please be prepared for cold nights.
*In winter, it snows up to 2 meters easily so please bring snow boots with. In addition, we recommend sending your luggage to the next destination after Shirakawago as many guests get stuck in the snow and experience horrible walk…

Delicious meals. Authentic traditional Japanese farmhouse. Good location. Close to bus station. In the heart of the World Heritage site.

The house owner is very kind. Dinner and breakfast is great. The vegetable is grown by the house owner. Easy to find the house. Recommend to stay.

We had a very lovely stay at Gssho Zukuri house, a traditional Japanese style minshuku. If you aren't familiar with the concept of minshuku, we would recommend to do a basic search on the web so there won't be any surprises when you arrive. The location was perfect and right in the village, which I think is worth the stay in itself. We enjoyed strolling through the town before breakfast, which was quiet and almost deserted, a stark contrast to the midday bustle when busloads of tourists come to fill the streets. At night after the tourists leave, the town reverts back to its quiet sleepy state again, except for the steady hum of crickets and frogs. In these quiet moments, I could imagine the atmosphere of the town probably has not changed in hundreds of years. Our hostess was gracious, very welcoming, and a good chef- the food was delicious. In sum, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gshho Zukuri House and highly recommend it.

We had a great stay in this authentic gassho house! If you have stayed in a traditional Japanese Inn, you know what to expect (shared bathroom and bath as well as meals with the other guests). If you haven't, don't expect all the amenities of a modern hotel. Just remember, you're staying in a very old house and can't expect all the modern conveniences. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. We slept pretty good listening to all the frogs and insects in the rice paddy directly behind our room. Go with the mindset of having authentic old Japanese Inn experience and take your essentials.

Great host, great stay and great food! Had a wonderful stay at Gssho Zakuri House. The traditional dinner and breakfast included rare vegetables of the season, was delicious! There's no TV in the room and the walls are super thin. Thank you for the stay!!

Yes, it was cold. Even in April. But we didn't mind as this was truly a unique experience. We loved everything: the beautiful old house, the room, sleeping on a futon and especially the food. Dinner and breakfast were really tasty. The owner was sweet and friendly and despite we couldn't speak Japanese we felt welcome.

Hi our future guests,

We operate a world cultural heritage Japanese Inn with more than 200-year history. We provide you with quiet and peaceful moments as well as authentic atmosphere of old Japan with local food.

As we would like to serve foreign guests better, we have decided to do Air BnB which allow us to communicate in advance. Actually we cannot speak English much so staff we hire for Air BnB will take care of you until you arrive our facility.

If you have any requirements or questions, please ask in Air BnB so that we can serve you better at our place.

Looking forward to seeing you here.
