About this listing
How about getting WAY off the beaten track, with your very own sailboat! Explore the "real" Greece; the little islands that the ferries can't get to. Our yacht is 49', with 4 double cabins and 4 bathrooms - she can sleep up to 8 guests in comfort. We include breakfasts, lunches; skipper, all boat expenses.
We've been sailing in the Dodecanese islands and Turkey for over 20 yrs now. Come join us on our floating home! Come explore the islands and meet our wonderful local friends - often little places that are only accessible by small boat. You don't need to be an experienced sailor to join us; just pack a sense of fun and adventure!
The price here is significantly reduced from our regular (website) rates - we have just a trips in particular we'd like to get afloat, so these are special Airbnb rates.
Our trips are usually 6 days, starting on Sun am, end Sat am.
If you don't have a whole group that you're travelling with, but love the idea - we also do "shareboat" adventures, where you can join us as a single, couple. Max 8 guests per boat. If you're travelling solo, it's not a problem; we can match you up with a (same sex) bunkmate. We get a lot of solo guests joining us, as it's such a great way to have an instant "family" of friends to explore with.
Yes, it's a bit of an unusual listing ! But our boat being a floating home, why not?? We've been hosting groups of people onboard for many years in Greece and Turkey. It's such a great way to meet travellers from all over the world; living on a sailboat creates fun social dynamics!
We provide provisions for breakfasts and lunches on board; it's up to everyone to pitch in and help make meals. Dinners are not included; we eat ashore in little local tavernas.
You don't need to be an experienced sailor to join us; we're happy to show any newbies the ropes. Do be aware that sailboats aren't cruise ships; space is limited, and you need to be the sort of sociable person who loves to be part of a group. For total newbies; Sailing is like Camping on The Water. If that concept appeals to - you'll be on the right boat.
Each cabin has it's own bathroom (toilet and shower). These are small, sailboat-sized rooms, don't expect the Hilton. There is a shared galley (kitchen) area, fridges, hot water, etc. (It might be "camping on the water"..... but it's pretty luxurious camping : >)
Interaction with guests
100%. We'll be living on board with you !
As with every communal living setup, guests need to be respectful of everyone else's space and sensibilities. Keeping the noise down at night, helping out on the boat (whether it's dishes or fenders), being tidy in shared areas - it's a team spirit, and we expect all our guests to pitch in.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund. Cancel within 7 days of your trip and the reservation is non-refundable.
My partner and I run a small yacht charter business, and this is our home base in Phuket - the gorgeous, off-the-tourist-tracks Ao Yon. We moor our boat here during the dry season, going out for a week or two at a time to take our guests around the islands. We're early/late 50s, but still love living in the Peter Pan world of the sailing biz :).
Our place is a long ways from a plush 5* apartment; but if you're the sort of person who thinks "oh yawn, not another character-less resort" - you'll love our place! Despite a couple of new developments in the area, Ao Yon is still a quiet, friendly little beach community. We feel very lucky to be able to live here, right on the beach with million dollar views - at cruising yachtie prices! :)
In the main season, we live in the upstairs apartment; the ground floor is open for guests. From April-Nov, we migrate to Greece (where we run our sailing biz there) - the top apartment is available as well then. We pack all our personal stuff in one bedroom, so that it becomes effectively a 1 bed apartment.
We're very sociable types, and if we're around when you visit, we'd love to chat and give you all the local lowdown. When we are not here, a local friend looks after our guests; she can no doubt tell you even more about the area!
