3 acres 1/2 acre fenced for pets, ocean view, brought art & antiques up from NYC. Renovated 150 yr old home for Mom now passed. Wood burning fireplace. Washer, dryer, gas stove, ice maker, great books fabulous art. lots of wild life. Beach 3 minutes by car. Neighborhood beach 10 minute walk.

The space

The art, books, furnishings and view make you want to stay forever. Also the liquor store being 3 minutes away, as well the beach. There is a private beach for the neighborhood where you can walk your dog/s for miles off leash.

Guest access

The house is yours for the time rented. You will not see me unless requested. You will drive up most likely from Halifax and head toward Melmerby beach in Kingshead. The house is known as Old Tom MacQueen's house. His spirit sometimes shows up. He is curious.

Interaction with guests

I am at your service while you are there. A couple of great restaurants and there is always something going on. I am usually in church, that is the church I bought and live in with my rescue dogs. It makes for a great art studio.

Other things to note

There are windows to watch the storms, look at the water and with the wood burning fireplace it's all too cozy. There is internet and cable and a PS3 player, lots of puzzles and games and a few toys for kids. Movies in binders. Roku is available upstairs. Lots of books ! Flowers for the cutting, snips available. Easels are in shed.

My family had a lovely relaxing weekend at Joan’s house. Our hostess was very accommodating and everything was exactly as described. Definitely will look to return next time we are visiting the area.

Joan's cottage is charming, well-appointed, beautifully located and comfortable. We enjoyed our two nights here and plan to book again for a winter getaway. The fireplace was super cozy and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook some nice meals, including some food staples. The beds were comfortable and there were lots of convenient extras like toiletries. Joan was very accommodating and was quick to respond to questions.

Joan's lovely place is so well appointed with gorgeous things that the perfect, pastoral seaside setting is just the beginning. We loved our stay at Art Cottage.

If your looking for a quaint eclectic place to stay at a great value, then Joan's place is it. Our vacation there was great, the host was quick to answer any questions we had, close to beach...beautiful flowers and pets are most welcome :)

This place was as advertised. Super cute and quaint. We took our pug and our two year old. Great for both. The host went above and beyond. The area and property are beautiful. The furnishings were fun, eclectic, and cozy. Our stay was super relaxing. We walked to the nearby beach which was relaxing and private and also headed over to the nearby Provincial Park, Melmerby (sp?) I believe it's called. Gorgeous sandy beach. As a local told us, park at the third lot, it's the nicest part of the beach. Will go again if we get the chance. There was something here for all of us :)

66 years old and my body is falling apart. I am a professional artist and art dealer. I rescue dogs and find them good homes. I currently have 2 un-adoptable senior Chinese Crested hairless dogs. I would live in the house if I could afford it. The rentals are a necessity for me. I do like to make people happy and hope you enjoy my home.
