The house is yours for the time rented. You will not see me unless requested. You will drive up most likely from Halifax and head toward Melmerby beach in Kingshead. The house is known as Old Tom MacQueen's house. His spirit sometimes shows up. He is curious.

Joan's place was amazing and far exceeded our expectations. If it wasn't booked, we wished we could have stayed longer. She was very easy to communicate with, the place was tidy, relaxing and there was always something to do. The area is beautiful and the nearby beach was wonderful. Joan really thought of everything and there were so many conveniences. I can't wait to go back!

My family and I stayed here for a weekend with friends and we had the most relaxing stay. Brought the baby and dog along and everyone had a lovely time. The house is beautiful and we loved having a fire pit. We will definitely consider revisiting this home.

I know the risk I am taking writing this negative review as it will forever be associated with my profile. Still, I think providing an honest review is the way to go. I booked a 3 night’s stay for me and my family back in January. The day before our stay, I contacted our host since I hadn't heard back from her yet. I also wanted to learn more about a short and vague negative comment left by the last guest. Long story short, she discarded it as an inexperienced Airbnb user with absurd expectations. Considering her excellent reviews, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Upon arrival, we found a writtent note from our host welcoming us and listing all the broken things in the cottage (pergola, fence, AC, washing machine, ice maker, BBQ). Settling in, it was obvious that the cottage was in dire need of a deep cleanup. Dust/dirt/dead bugs layed along the walls and in the corner of most rooms. We found live bugs in many corners, on the floor, on the walls and even in the stove top. The bedroom carpets were either badly stained/dirty or smelled incredibly bad and felt damp. The kitchen drawers were dirty and the handles were sticky. There was a spill inside the fridge and its doors, handles and ice maker were dirty and greasy. There was a razorblade was stuck right into the laundry room wall. Overall, the house was in bad shape. After spending the night, it was clear that we could not spend another two nights there. We made the beds, washed/dried used towels, packed our things, left and contacted our host. She wrote back, belittling each element I brought up and questionning the fact that incuded pictures were taken in her cottage. Considering I did not want to argue, I felt it was best to reach Airbnb so they could settle the matter. Thankfully, they issued me a full refund for the rest of our stay after investigating the case. Let me be clear – I did not expect staying at a hotel. My expectations were set for a nice, clean and cozy cottage. I've used Airbnb to book cottages in the past and always had wonderful experiences until now. I'm feeling really bad about the way this one turned out. Still, I wish our host will take these comments into consideration and hopefully get The Art Cottage back into the condition that got her so many good reviews in the past.

65 years old and my body is falling apart. Going in for hip surgery on March 9 won't be answering anything until probably the 15th. I am a professional artist and art dealer. I rescue dogs and find them good homes. I currently have 3 un-adoptable senior dogs. I would live in the house if I could afford it. The rentals are a necessity for me. I do like to make people happy and hope you enjoy my home.
