My name is Chris and I run a small backpackers hostel called The Hof on the doorstep of the Huascarán National Park. We also use the lodgings periodically to host students for sustainability courses we run in collaboration with various universities. Often times I'm away for long stretches, so I'll also introduce my good friend Ian, who will most likely be the one you'll be exchanging emails with and hosting you if I'm not there. He's here for at least a year doing a sort of working internship gaining experience in working with the local community on many of our social outreach initiatives funded by the money earned at the hostel and from the courses.
Our hostel consists of four cabins facing what I like to call the Lord of the Rings mountains as well as a super adobe dome. The view is completely amazing, the environment is 100% relaxing, and the hiking is world class whether you're a stroller or a hard core mountaineer. Ka'Way Monti is the name of our organization and ECOmmunity that we're building here. The courses we run are focused on community leadership emphasizing sustainability. Our super adobe dome is a product of one of our earlier programs which we rent out as a private room; perfect for couples.
We also have two families we work with in the village who can host home stays. Casa de Hilario, and soon Casa de Emilio, are two of our good friends in Llupa, the nearby village, who are working on boosting the tourism economy in their town, so we thought we'd give them a hand. If you book through us we'll connect you with them to help them get started. They only speak Spanish and Quechua, however, so just be aware of that if you don't speak either.
We're pretty chill up here, we love board games at night, and lots of projects or laying around depending on the day. We also have a quickly growing kick ass library of typical backpacker fiction reads, history, consciousness, permaculture, natural building, etc. Ask us questions or just come on up.
