2 Old Head Wood, is beside a blue flag beach and Europe's oldest oak forest, is an idyllic beach house and getaway for those who like to spend time communing with nature and adventure but who also like being close to the bustling tourist town of Westport, only 15 minutes drive away. ((URL HIDDEN)
Our house is perfect for one or two families. It is a five bed-roomed house, three bedrooms of which are en-suite. The living area has a floor to ceiling picture window.

The space
Five bed-roomed beautiful beach house with three bathrooms accommodating up to 12 people. Balcony overlooking Clew Bay and deck out the back overlooking Croagh Patrick Mountain. It is a beach house in the West of Ireland at Old Head Beach, Louisburgh, Westport, Co. Mayo. ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) images: Old Head Beach, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo).
Louisburgh is the gateway to Connemara & from there it is only 1.5 hrs drive to Galway. The drive from Louisburgh through the Doolough Pass has been voted one of the 10 most beautiful in the world by Conde Naste.
For those who want a little bit more than just swimming, boating and surfing there are at least two adventure centers, Delphi being the most famous, within easy reach of our house .
There is a wonderful documentary done for the BBC in 2017 (Wild Ireland: The Edge of the World), by Colin Stafford Johnson, the Award Winning Nature cinematographer, who lives in Clew bay which is well worth looking at to give an idea of the true beauty and magic of this part of the world!!.

Our house is in a spectacular setting on Clew Bay, a stones throw to the beach. Close by is a tennis court which guests are welcome to use (we have plenty of tennis racquets)..
The nearest local village, Louisburgh, is 2 kms which is a lovely stroll or cycle along the back roads. We have 3 bikes for guest us.
Louisburgh is a heritage town & though small, you will find everything you would expect to find in a small country town such as a butcher, supermarket, hairdresser, post office, chemist, pubs and restaurants. Westport is a 15 - 18 minutes drive . This is a charming town and a popular tourist destination and scores highly for Quality of Life. It has also won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition three times in 2001, 2006 and 2008. In 2012 it also won the Best Place to Live in Ireland.
There is a brazier on the deck to sit outside on those starry nights!.
The balcony off the living room is perfect for having that early morning coffee or that digestif before the sun goes down on Clew Bay!.
If you wish to make your own music, there is a digital piano at your disposal & a large collection of music CD's.
There is an open fire in the living room and, even in the height of summer, there's nothing nicer than lighting a turf fire and thawing out after a day spent surfing and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean!
If you don't fancy watching TV or a DVD why not choose a book from the big selection available on the book shelves.
The kitchen is off the living room and is fully equipped with a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, micro-wave, double oven, sound system, toaster, and crockery and cutlery for more than twelve people.
Off the kitchen is a lovely sun deck. The deck is south facing so is a sun trap and on a clear day you can see Craogh Patrick, one of Ireland's most famous mountains with its little church perched on top. There are recliners & a table and chairs outside on the deck for all that Al fresco dining you do in Ireland!.
The living area is all upstairs to take advantage of the spectacular views.
Downstairs there are five bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a king size bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. This bedroom has an en suite bathroom with shower toilet and wash hand basin. This bathroom has underfloor heating.
The second bedroom has four beds two of which are bunk beds and two singles, one which slides under the other, which could be singles or can be put together to make a super king.
The third bedroom is a cosy bunk room and sleeps two.
The fourth bedroom is a double bedroom with an en suite which is shared with the fifth bedroom which makes it ideal for a second family.
The fifth bedroom has two single beds with the en suite which is shared with the fourth bedroom. These beds can also be put together to form another double. This bedroom has its own separate private entrance.
The main bathroom has a full jacuzzi bath, electric shower, toilet and hand basin. This bathroom also has underfloor heating.
All the bedrooms have electric heating which can be activated at the flip of a switch. The upstairs living area has night storage heaters which automatic timers.
There is an iron in the hot press under the stairs, a hairdryer and CD player in the master bedroom.
The facilities outside the house include sun loungers and a gas barbecue not to mention a brazier which is lovely to sit beside on those clear evenings when you want to stay outside after dark and look at the beautiful stars which are so visible as there is no light pollution.

There are two sheds in the gardens of the house. One of the sheds has a washing machine and a dryer. The other garden shed houses the bicycles, and wet-suits.
There are two entrances to the house and car parking spaces at the front and the back.

Our beach house is unique because not only is it metres from a blue flag beach. On walking the beach Croagh Patrick is visible at one end and at the other end there is the oldest oak forest in Europe which takes you over the headland giving spectacular views. The Irish speaking Connemara is only minutes away by car as is the famous 'tidiest town in Ireland' - Westport ! Galway city is a mere one and half hours drive away and if you fancy a bit of fine dining or afternoon tea Ashford Castle is only 50 minutes away.
