The space
This is a delightfully rustic and charming 2-storey country house located just outside the small, sleepy, authentic pueblo of Malacatos in the southern province of Loja in the undiscovered south of Ecuador.

The property consists of two bedrooms, an integrated kitchen and living room, bathroom, porch, patio, outdoor BBQ area and balcony accessible via the master bedroom. The property is basically furnished and decorated and the interior colour scheme is mainly cream and terracotta, creating a warm effect.

The property has substantial land with place to plant flowers or shrubs, as well as the outside BBQ area. It is accessible by foot or vehicle via a track joining the property to the main (but quiet) road which connects you to Malacatos, the town of Loja, and Vilcabamba – the renowned ‘valley of longevity’ – for just $1 per journey by bus or shared taxi.

You will have your privacy yet you will not be isolated. There are a number of properties in the vicinity and usually someone undertaking gardening or some form of maintenance. The neighbours are friendly and there exists a kind of ‘community spirit’ among residents.

This is the closest thing I can imagine to paradise; the air and water are pure, the people friendly, life tranquil and easy, the weather moderately hot and extremely pleasant. If I weren’t in London developing my career I would no doubt be living there now!

Please get in touch if you would like more information or are keen to check the place out or make a booking.

Sincerely,
James

FAQs
How big is the property?
The total size including land is around 900m2.

How far is the property from local towns etc.?
The house in 1-2 kilometres from Malacatos, easily accessible by foot or taxi (no more than $1 per journey), and a 15 minute drive from the town of Loja (also cheap by taxi, or bus). 15 minutes by car in the other direction to get to Vilcabamba.

How is access to the property from the main road?
Via a dirt track / stone-laden path about 100 meters in length. During heavy rain it can get quite muddy but in general access is fine.

What about the water source?
The water is piped from the local town and occasionally cuts are encountered, however we have a 'sisterna' (water tank) on the balcony to provide clean buffer water.

How much are bills?
Total bills typically come to $20-40 per month.

Is Internet available?
Yes – there will be an Internet router installed and you will be accountable for paying the bills.

Do you allow pets?
Owing to a bad previous experience where the previous furniture was ruined by domestic animals I prefer not to host pets. I also have a cat allergy. However, I am reasonable, and will look at each request on a case-by-case basis. There will be a premium of up to $100 per month for pets.
