I have one bedroom available in my home in Madison County. Culpeper is just 11 miles away. Enjoy a day of hiking in the mountains! Old Rag Mountain is a popular destination and only a 30-minute drive from here. There are a number of great wineries and historical sites in this area, not to mention the annual festivals. If you want to start your day with a hearty breakfast, I can offer you scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and ham along with coffee or tea.

The space
The room has a full-sized bed for up to two people and a closet. The mattress on the bed is smaller than a queen-sized mattress, so just keep that in mind if you're making a reservation for two people. The bathroom is right across the hall and is for your exclusive use. There are curtains in the hallway between the living room and the bedroom that I close at night to offer my guests some privacy. Please bear in mind that my home isn't new, having been built in 1957. It has its own charm and character that I hope you will appreciate as much as I do. I try my best to accommodate all of my guests' needs. I welcome long-term reservations, so just let me know what your requirements are. Good communication is essential between the host and the guests!

Guest access
My living room has a large collection of antiques in it now that I've started selling them online. As such, it's not available for guests to use unless they would like to join me for some tea and conversation in the evening. I have wireless Internet access throughout the house and can give you the password after your arrival. If you need a comfortable place to use your laptop, you can sit at the table in the kitchen.

Other things to note
My mother passed away in February 2016. She loved meeting our Airbnb guests and was able to remember all of their names from the beginning, which is something I couldn't do! Her grave is right here on my property and is marked by a white cross. Now that she's gone, it's just me and Sabrina, my Persian cat, living here. There are also two outdoor cats here who hang out on the porch. They will greet you as soon as you arrive! If you like cats and a relaxed atmosphere, you'll be right at home here!

I live close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Shenandoah National Park is 35 miles away. If you take Route 231 from Madison to Sperryville, you will have a lovely drive before heading up the mountain. My house is situated on five acres, so there's plenty of room to walk around and enjoy nature. If you are sensitive to traffic noise, you may find my proximity to Route 29 undesirable. There is always traffic on the highway as this is a major route to Washington, D.C. However, it's very convenient when you pull out of my driveway and set off for your day's adventure!

There are so many great places to visit in this area. Montpellier, the home of James Madison, is close by, and Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, is in the historic city of Charlottesville, located just 35 miles away on Route 29 South. For wine lovers, this area is full of vineyards, like the Prince Michel Winery half a mile from our house.

Culpeper is just ten miles away and offers the historical charm of Davis Street with great restaurants like It's About Thyme and Foti's. The train station at the end of Davis Street is still open for business with Amtrak trains stopping for passengers who want to go to New York City.

I'm now back in the US after having spent twenty years in Saudi Arabia working as an English teacher. My experience in the Middle East was wonderful and gave me many happy memories! Hospitality is a very important part of Arab culture, and it's something I value as well. I love being a host and making my guests comfortable. Food is a big part of hospitality, and I enjoy cooking for my guests. I collect antiques and enjoy having them around me. I'm also preparing myself to be an antique dealer, specializing in French antiques from the 18th Century.
