A charming small apartment in a turn of the century historic district. We are near restaurants, bars, breweries and a great donut shop! This is an urban neighborhood with lots of diversity and many beautiful old homes being renovated.

The space

This is a small upstairs apartment with a private entrance. You can come and go at your leisure. This studio has a Bedroom/Sitting Room, Full Bath and Full Kitchen, and Private Laundry Facility and Closet; The Large TV has an Apple TV with a Netflix subscription and a digital antenna for regular TV; and the apartment is equipped with wifi internet. The apartment has a separate WiFi box, and a separate thermostat for both heat and AC. The bed has a Memory Foam Mattress. Other amenities include both a French Press Pot and full-sized Coffee Maker (the photo shows a very small one, but we got a new one); basic kitchen utensils, a farmhouse sink and honed granite counters in the kitchen. The floor tilts a bit because it used to be an upstairs porch. There are original screen prints by Cricket Press and Hatch Studios. The Bedroom/sitting room has charming decor with an Eileen West Quilt and original artwork on the walls and a Deborah Westerfield sculpture. The dining table/work area is an antique game table with a drop leaf where you can eat a meal or snack, write in your journal, or catch up on some work on your laptop. Relax with a book in a reclining wing-back chair. The entrance is up an antique wooden winding staircase that is original to the house. The house itself is a farmhouse style and was built in 1900. The backyard has a large kitchen garden with a chicken yard in the back. You can taste a fresh-from-the-chicken egg if the "girls" are laying! Just ask! Or a fresh tomato in the summer! There are two bicycles, one male, one female, that you may use if you ask us ahead of time. The apartment includes the use of a small private sitting porch. Feel free to wander the yard if you like. We are doing some renovation on the back of the house, so please avoid that area. Hopefully it will be finished soon!

Guest access

You have access to the whole apartment. If you want to wander down and see the chickens take a handful of something for them to eat and they will be very happy birds! Our guests can use the red grill and bistro table and 2 chairs in the side yard by the herb garden. Parking is on the street.

Interaction with guests

We will be happy to visit, or give directions and ideas for eating and fun! Or we will stay out of your way and let you relax. It is totally up to you.

Other things to note

This is a 115 year-old house that we are renovating. You are welcome to sit on the apartment porch or in the yard next to the veggie garden or visit the chickens if you like. There is a red grill in the backyard for your use if you would like to cook outside. The kitchen now has a full-sized coffee pot, and a toaster.

Miki's place was lovely and exactly what we we were looking for. The apartment was well stocked, very clean, and Miki was so helpful with the instructions for check in. I'd definitely recommend staying here!

Nice spot and down the street from 6th Street Brewery. I enjoyed walking the neighborhood to Doodles and seeing all the great architecture. The parking was easy and convenient across the street and it wasn't an extremely busy place.

This little attic apartment is a cozy home away from home. It is impeccably clean and well-kept, with beautiful bed linens, a comfortable bed, and lovely décor. It is private and comfortable, in a safe and pretty neighborhood that is walking distance to Transylvania University (5 min), downtown and Rupp Arena (15 min), and the University of Kentucky (30 min). Free on-street parking is a very nice plus. Miki is the consummate host, and has tended to and foreseen absolutely everything, as summarized in a detailed set of instructions that she leaves out for guests on the kitchen counter, and there was even a sweet personalized message waiting for me on a chalkboard outside the apartment door. Miki was incredibly sweet and accommodating of my schedule and told me I could drop my bags off early, but when I got there the whole place was ready and I was able to check in a few hours early. Communication throughout was fantastic. The house itself is absolutely beautiful and charming, with gorgeous landscaping and floral blooms in the front and back yards. I can't recommend Miki's place highly enough!

Response from Miki:
I am so sorry your wife was uncomfortable. I have never had a problem and as far as I know, neither have our guests. There are parts of downtown I wouldn't walk in at night. But our neighborhood has been safe so far--4 years. And I lived about two blocks away for almost 30 years. That is just downtown. There are all kinds of people. And it isn't for everyone. I try in my description to let people know it is downtown and diverse. I guess I am used to it and don't think about it being non-suburban. I am sorry she was afraid. Miki

This is a great long term stay option. I spent the summer in Lexington, and this was a great place. I never had to park more than three doors from the house, and generally parked straight across the street. The stairs are a little challenging to move heavy bags up and down, but not impossible. Pack wisely. The apartment is a little bigger than a studio apartment, and very functional. Great for 1 or 2 people. Miki and Tom were great hosts, and we're quick to help with any question or problem I had. Overall, a great place to spend any length of stay.

The accommodations were just as described plus more. The host did extra things above and beyond such as fresh eggs, fresh mint to make mint julip's, and stocks the apartment with local flavor such as Churchill Downs glasses, area magazines, local wall art. It is truly a charming apartment in a historic district , centrally localized in Lexington. It's only blocks away from Rupp arena and Transalvania University. Restaurants are plentiful nearby. We'd stay there again and recommend to others. The host also provides toiletries and kitchen pantry items that can come in handy. A gem for Airbnb.

Response from Miki:
Thanks, Michael! Actually we had already done that but for whatever bizarre reason, the antenna isn't working on the upstairs line to the TV. It works on the TV downstairs. We haven't figured it out yet. Maybe next time you come we will have unraveled the mystery! We loved the new derby glasses! How nice of you! And thanks so much for the beads and tomato! If the weather cooperates, it should be soon! Come back anytime! Miki

I (Miki) am a graphic designer and artist, and Tom is a custom cabinet maker/woodworker. We try to be as ecological as we can. We recycle, and eat organic, and raise a garden and chickens. We also try to act in a socially responsible way.
