Jade Ohana is a lovely apartment with private lanai in beautiful, peaceful, setting of tropical flowers, and fruit trees. Surrounding it are Ohia trees, uniquely native to Hawaii, which have red Lehua blossoms from January to June. Hanging in the trees are beautiful turquoise jade vines. The lovely patio views personal garden of anthuriums, hibiscus, lemon, avocado tree, and fragrant flowers. We are a mile from ocean cliff side trails,
25 minutes from Hilo, and 45 minutes from Volcano Park.

The space
Balmy breezes, passing showers, and songs of birds and coquis. Jade Ohana is an excellent home base to relax or return to each day from exploration of the island. It is in Hawaiian Paradise Park, between Keaau and Pahoa, about 15 minute drive to either. (A small farmer's market is open daily in Keaau.) Jade Ohana is ground level in a two story home with private parking and a unique setting of greenery. There are more tropical plants than can be named, not mentioned above, there are plumeria, puakenkeni, gardenias and passion flowers, and trees include- coconut, tangerine, soursop, lychee, mango, guava, and jackfruit, the world's largest fruit. Non-smoking inside, however you may smoke in the patio or yard.
The floors are lauhala mats, (traditionally used by polynesian cultures,) bamboo, and tile. The bedroom is light and airy, and views to the gardens. It has queen size bed on bamboo platform and if a second bed is requested, a twin size roll-a-way bed can be brought into living room/kitchen area. Also a baby crib is available.
Wi-fi, satellite TV, and outdoor grill are provided. Also complimentary coffee and a bowl of fresh local fruit. The kitchen is equipped with a full refrigerator, microwave, 2 burner electric stove, toaster oven, coffee pot, blender, dishes, and glasses, etc. (Also salt, pepper, and sugar.) The bathroom has tub/shower and bathroom towels, beach towels and beach mats as well as shampoo and soaps.
On Sundays, a few miles away, is the unique Maku'u Farmer's Market with a great variety of fresh local grown produce, flowers, food vendors, exotic clothes, beautiful crafted jewelry and musicians playing, while you sit together at long tables having breakfast or lunch.
The quaint "old time" village of Pahoa has lots of unique little restaurants, Thai, Mexican, Italian, and a favorite is gourmet Kaleo's with live music, or the rustic Tin Shack Bakery. Also delicious food buffet style is available at Island Natural Health Food Store in Pahoa and Hilo.
In 2018 there was major volcanic activity which fissured in Leilani and its flow covered most of the very special Kapoho area. However it is unique chance to see the results of recent lava flow. From Pahoa, highway 130 takes you to Kalapana and Uncle Robert's popular Wednesday night Farmer's Market with lots of food booths, Hawaiian music, and dancing. The 1990 lava flow came to Uncle Robert's home and stopped. From there is a lovely drive along the ocean to Pohoiki, where the lava last year covered the road, entered the ocean, and created a large black sand beach and new tide pools. On the way you will pass by areas to sit by the ocean and drive over a lava berm, a separate flow also from last year.
In Hilo there is the beautiful Liliuokalani Park, Coconut Island, beach parks with swimming protected from waves, a black sand beach great for snorkeling, kayaking rentals, wonderful art galleries, the historic Palace Theatre, and lots of good restaurants. In Hilo, the special Farmer’s Market days are on Saturdays and Wednesdays. North of Hilo is the Hamakua coast, with waterfalls, scenic drives, beautiful botanical gardens and stunning Waipio Valley.
I am always happy to help in planning an itinerary and available to help or answer any questions. NOTE: while some vacation rentals ask you upon arrival to pay the Hawaii State Transient Tax, which is 13.25% of total, we do not do that and have included the tax in your reservation fee.
