Derek and I have been married for more than 50 years. Having sold our sheep and cattle station in the Wairarapa we bought this property in 2000 and have developed Te Maru from a bare dairy paddock to fruit, citrus, and avocado orchards and a lush garden backed by native forest. Everyone loves to take pictures on our property. The cottage is the home we lived in for 3 1/2 years while the main house was being built, and now you get to enjoy its comforts. We enjoy reading and have a well stocked library, are passionate about our land, especially enjoying the beaches, rivers and native bush of the Coromandel Peninsula. We have planted our stream and land with indigenous flora to attract native fauna into our place and now have over 30 species of birds visiting us. We are part of a group actively engaged in protecting and enhancing a large area of local land to help protect the native bush and its fauna, particularly kiwi, from the ravages of introduced pests. Guests visit us from all over the world and we enjoy spending time with them and showing them around our little piece of paradise.
