The space

Kaya Residence is located above Kaya-kaya Cafe, along the Blacksmith Street, which is known today as Jalan Tukang Besi. It is only one-minute walk to Jonker Street (Jonker Walk). As you stroll along the street, you will see a blacksmith that carries out smithing process every day using traditional method.

This building has its very interesting history. Kaya-kaya Cafe on the ground floor used to be an old pub during pre-war period. The upper floor, where Kaya Residence is, was once a worker quarters. Today, the former has transformed into a cozy cafe whereas the latter, Kaya Residence, has become a boutique guesthouse for your exploration in this historical city of Malacca.

Kaya Kaya has a great location and is absolutely value for money for a pleasant minimalist room. It is on the rooftop and has a great view. Rachel is very responsive and her dog and cat are really sweet too. Thanks for the stay!

Easy to get to, quiet and comfortable. Kaya is neatly tucked away above a restaurant near the Jonker Walk street. It's very near the middle of town and close to a few open parking spaces. Despite its nearness to all the buzz of old Malacca, you'll find the room to be secluded, its back view facing the roofs of pre-war shophouses and gentrified alleyways. The bed is comfortable, large enough for two persons to share and spacious. It's got all the necessary stuff -showers, makeup table, fridge, etc. There's a little balcony with a couple of chairs. The place is a mixture of both old-school rustic (you can see it in the windows) and modern-day minimalist. The room was great, but it could have come with a bedside table or two. Te spaciousness of the room and the lack of items inside made the place feel a little bare. But all in all, a comfortable place to kick back in and just chill. I'd recommend this place to my friends.

It was a good stay for Ryan and I as it's only one street away from Jonker Street. As mentioned by another guest, prayer broadcast from the nearby mosque can be heard in the early hours but that was not too much of a problem for me. The room and toilet were clean. Overall, a value-for-money stay.

Really nice place, right in the centre of the heritage city and close to almost every popular spot. Room is clean and the rustic building very well-decorated.
