The space

This classic cabin sits on .57 acres inside a very cool, eclectic neighborhood that backs up to the linville gorge wilderness area ( "Grand Canyon of the East"). Choose from two stellar hiking trails right outside the front door that will lead you to the rim of the gorge or down to the river. The cabin features a big Kohler Birthday Bath clawfoot soaking tub in the loft which faces a huge picture window! A perfect base camp to come and play the day away...

Guest access

Wood stove, flat screen direct tv, fully stocked kitchen, Webber charcoal grill. Bring your own charcoal! There may be some behind the small door by the grill! king bed, queen bed, two bathrooms to spread out and a soaking tub in the loft. Walk out the front door to access the best hiking, climbing and biking on the east coast. Download the free hiking map app to your phone.....search Lgmaps on the net. Hike at your own risk.

Interaction with guests

Via messaging and phone only....occasionally you may see me in the neighborhood.

Other things to note

Please use the wood stove wisely and try not to burn more wood than necessary. I use the woodstove as my main heating source but the cabin is also equipped with central heat and air. Bring your own charcoal for the grill.

***Make sure the window blinds are down with strings loose before opening the windows!

I have another listing through airbnb in the same neighborhood with no houses in between so if you have a big group it would be ideal to book both cabins.......the other listing is "retro-modern in the woods"

This is my third time staying at the cabin and it won’t be the last! The loft tub is always fabulous and the location is perfect in my opinion. This is a great, peaceful place to relax and explore!

Absolutely wonderful getaway!! Totally peaceful, quiet and best chance to unwind we’ve had in a long time!! Hikes were fantastic and Andrew leaves a lot of helpful tips and trail info. Wood work in cabin is really beautiful and views of nature out windows are such a refreshing change from ordinary hustle n bustle. Would definitely love to return one day!!!!!!!

We stayed at Andrews place for our wedding weekend. We had already routed it out in a previous trip to the mountains so that we would know exactly where to go when we arrived. It is up a private drive but his directions are great and lead you right to where you need to go. Location is secluded but still close enough in driving distances to get to a few different corner store/gas stations. It is also located conveniently by hiking trails, walking distance from house or a short 15 mins drive to sitting bear, hawksbill and maybe 20 min drive to tablerock trails. The cabin doesn't really offer a view, it is secluded in the woods but you can kinda see the sun rising in the morning from the bedroom through the tree line. I remember what initially sold me on booking the cabin was the soaker tub since it was my wedding weekend, I wanted to be able to enjoy that. Now my reason for the 3 stars. When we got there I went upstairs to soak in tub since we had been driving all day. The hot water heater and pressure were out. When I messaged Andrew, he did mention that it happens sometimes so obviously this has happened before. He did offer to have a repairman come out but it obviously wouldn't be that night. If I wanted to be able to bathe before my wedding the next day, my fiancé was going to have to go down in the basement and change it out. He was able to change it out successfully and ran my bath water for me. We didn't have anymore problems w that for the rest of the weekend. It mentions in the welcome book that the wood stove in the main source to heat the house. This is true. If you are coming during the warmer months you don't need to consider this but I believe we came on the first good cold front of the winter season. It was cold. It took all weekend to get the wood stove to heat any other area in the house up beside the main room that it is in. Thankfully he had tons of cut wood stocked right outside the door for guest, so we appreciated that. Overall an alright stay. I feel like the water heater thing just left me not being able to give more than 3 stars.

Response from Andrew:
Good morning Rachel. Once again, my apologies for the water issue. I’m gonna start changing out the filter on a regular basis from now on. As for the heat. I do have central heating in the cabin.... the thermostat is on the wall in the living room. Sorry if that was not clear in the instruction book and in my Airbnb write up on the cabin.

Andrew, thank you! Your Classic cabin rocks! It's practically at the head of three trails, and with the app you recommend, not only can you stay on path, but you can go off down the insignificant side trails to the fantastic views at Celestial Point, Reference Rock, Cliff Trail / Riverbend Overlook and more. Then you can return for a beer on the covered porch or take a soak in the tub up in the trees! The wood burning fire makes the place toasty hot, and the beds are super comfortable for a good nights sleep. Everything you'll need is on hand. Bring in your groceries, a smart phone and a good book or board games and you won't want to leave. We will be back for the rhododendrons! Thanks again for a great venue to celebrate our 27th Anniversary Debbie & Ian

Nice location close to hiking trails, Linville Falls and Caverns. Trails from the house were perfect for family hikes. Water pressure was pretty low, only one shower could be used at a time.

Hello, I am a ropes course/ zip line builder who loves to travel for work and for play...I prefer to play....but most recently I decided to embark on renovating ( more like re- building) a unique 1960's cabin that sits just outside of the linville gorge boundaries. I've owned…
