The space

Re-treat yourself!

Our Yurt PADMA is a haven for anyone who would like to experience a peaceful, sustainable vacation. We are pleased to offer a serene environment with a spectacular ocean, mountain and sunset view. Our artisan-built, timber-framed, yurt platform and wrap around deck is situated on a moss bluff. It is surrounded by large Douglas Fir and Western Cedar trees. Our handmade furniture and simple living designs will surely enhance your experience.

We speak English and German. Nature walks are near by and an abundance of clean air will enhance your rest and relaxation.
Re-charge yourself with PADMA.

PADMA is located on Cortes Island, British Columbia, and is well known for its many stunning beaches, gigantic forests, and a vibrant community. There are many awe inspiring beaches and lagoons where you can collect oysters and cook them on the barbecue. There is plenty to see and do here on the island and a vehicle is highly recommended.

We call our 12 acre property “Greenland” and we believe in composting, organic gardening and most of all healthy bees. Our home is located in the valley and PADMA sits on the bluff with its own access road. Our cultivated land is very enchanting, green and lush with flowers growing out of enormous stumps. Two vegetable gardens provide an abundance of tasty produce. Our orchard has old established fruit trees and berries.

Think luxury, remote and camping, three words which you might not bring together easily.

Breathe clean air, eat organic in-season produce, rest, read, listen to real silence, be aware of the environment and of nature itself. Catch a glimpse of bald eagles, hear the night sounds of barred owls. Experience sustainable living with us.
Handmade double bed with cotton bedding, blankets, duvet, pillows, mosquito net, towels, functional kitchen with water, Fisher wood burning stove, skylight dome, natural solar sky arch lighting, kerosene lantern, candles. There is no electricity at the yurt, but we can facilitate with our re-charging station.

Located in the rainforest of Beautiful British Columbia our yurt PADMA offers peace, tranquility and privacy.
Set on a bluff our yurt platform was hand crafted with wood harvested from our property. This structure is raised 8 feet off the ground and the large deck offers ocean, mountain and stunning sunset view. The sound of bird song in the trees, white tailed deer passing by on their daily route, warm dappled light falling through the forest canopy onto the mossy rocks gives this secluded spot a unique atmosphere in which to unwind and relax.

Sleeping in a yurt is a truly magical experience. With stars shining through the dome there will be no need for television. Chop wood, carry water. Our wood burning stove will keep you cozy and our spacious yurt with all its handmade furniture has a special rustic charm as well a basic level of comfort not normally associated with camping. There is a composting toilet (yes – it’s perfectly pleasant to use).
Our facilities are simple and meet the needs of our guests.

PADMA Yurt re-treat offers an off grid experience with lots of nature and privacy.

Interaction with guests

We believe in privacy. Our guests have there own acre and we do not enter their space in that time. We installed a station with a communication board next to our main driveway, where our guests can leave messages and requests for us. We are always open for questions and are more than happy to help our guests as they wish.

Other things to note

Make sure to plan enough time for the ferry sailing, since there is always the chance of overloads.

You must come here! If you do you will have such an amazing experience connecting with the beauty of Cortes island and nature. I feel really lucky to have found this gem of a place and would go back in a heart beat. We saw Orca and Humpback Whales on the ferry to and from the island and loads of nature on many hikes when we got there. If you want to swim in clear lakes and lagoons, walk through stunning forests and watch beautiful sunsets on deserted beaches then go here!

Great place to unplug, rest and adventure. Don't miss the closely hike to Carrington Bay. The yurt and property has a very peaceful vibe and is well equipped to be off the grid.

Restful, comfortable, beautiful, relaxing, peaceful, totally private, quiet, off the grid. The yurt is everything as described and more. We loved the comfortable bed of memory foam. We slept better than we have in years. We'd give the yurt ten stars instead of five if we were able. A plus for the final day of our vacation: we discovered the retreat center, Hollyhock, on the Island. They offer a half day experience: hot tub, 1-hour massage and lunch for $105. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned for dinner.

A beautiful place for peace and solitude. The friendly squirrels played and talked to you. The bed was very comfortable. A place to enjoy without any neighbours disturbing you. Serenity with beautiful sunsets.

This is the perfect place to be off grid and with nature. The hikes were amazing. The lagoon was completely awesome! The water was see through clear. Inga and Natasha and Bella are wonderful and kind caring hosts. Their whole system of greeting and communicating with guests is just amazing, providing complete seclusion for guests if wanted. We especially loved talking with inga and learning about life on Cortes. They live in paradise.

PADMA is an experience unlike any other. If you are prepared to rise and sleep with the sun, unplug from the grid and keep your phone off, you'll enjoy every moment here. Cortes is very easy to get to, and Inga + Natasha are wonderful hosts. You won't be disappointed!

Live simply, so that others may simply live!

We share and trade. Trading is long forgotten, but it feels so nice to exchange different work abilities and anyway, you can’t eat money. Our main goal is living off and with the land. We grow a lot of organic food to sustain ourselves. We are always preserving, freezing and dehydrating food for the winter. We eat so well that we feel healthy and are not often sick . We are finding so much joy when we reduce, recycle and reclaim. Creating new art which was art before and before that too. Our aim is looking close everyday, at what really matters. To share our passion we created the sustain yourself society.

PADMA Yurt re-treat has brought many great people, who all seem to appreciate what we offer. It has been a wonderful experience for us to host.
