A chalet style log cottage that was completely renovated in 2022. This cottage is a fully functional, winterized home with a heat pump for cooling and heating, as well as a woodstove.

Deerbrook is tucked in the woods with a fully covered, screened in porch, and full afternoon sun deck. You will see a variety of wildlife and a lovely brook runs along the property down to Melrose Lake, which is just a short walk from the cottage on treed path through an old apple orchard.

The space
Situated on the idyllic St. Mary’s River - Deerbrook is a nature lover’s dream.

From paddling to fly-fishing, birding or hiking - this property is a sanctuary like no other.

Here you will find a fully-equipped home on Melrose Lake, a large lawn and forested paths. Kayak to Sheep Island from the natural shoreline, through the Narrows and down to Silver’s Bridge or up the East Branch.

A quiet space for conservationists, artists, writers and families alike to find inspiration, solace and wilderness adventure.

If baby deer (fawns), are being stashed on the property by their mommy’s, everything including all the paths will still be wide open to explore, but the grass will not be mowed. I really enjoy watching their antics and it’s a safe place for them, especially starting out and in the winter. The mower might push them somewhere they are not comfortable with. It’s been like this longer than the 40 years I can remember. I try to keep the woods, the woods. It’s worth the chance to see them playing under the old apple trees off the front deck in the morning and evening.
It’s also one of the reasons I allow pets. All the pups that stay do their business outside and help ward off coyotes. Not that it’s their fault. Coyotes have babies to feed too.
Ohh, and it’s a really nice thought to leave something out for them like apples or carrots, but I don’t feed or interfere with their movements. It has the potential to do way more harm than good. Cheers
