Waking up to the sound of a waterfall in the background makes Thilak’s is a perfect spot to bunk down in Ella. The price is for a double room with attached bathroom. There are two doubles and a triple room available.

The space

Thilak’s offers three comfy double rooms, each with a private entrance and an attached bathroom with hot water. The rooms face the waterfalls and, with the windows open, you can hear the water fall in the distance. Amidst vegetable and rice plantations and surrounded by Coconut, avocado and banana trees, the place has a very rural feel to it. Vehicles can park some 20 metres away.

Interaction with guests

We were welcomed with tea and biscuits by Thilak, a retired army officer who lives in separate spaces on the premises, together with his wife and two kids who are - curiously - both called Nadeesha. The family built the house with a loan from the bank and run it together. Things are going pretty well so far. Upon request they happily arrange food, transport and tours in the area.

Awesome. Huge stylish room, huge bathroom, huge pleasure to live there. The host is definattely a magical person ;) nice and soulful. The only thing that is a pity: the view is very nice, but not a 'sunrise heaven', if you are a rapt photographer and hungry to make a first pic of the day right out of bed. Nevertheless a 3 minute 6am walk will give you the mountain view you perhaps want... And nighttime you won't be dissapointed by the view of million stars.

Mr. Thilak is a very sweet person, we stayed there for only one night but it was very much worth it. His house is in a beautiful valley with an incredible view, we were greeted with tea and cookies. The place is just in a great location as it is very close to the busy center of town but still away enough to be calm and quiet. Would very much recommend, also the breakfast was great :)

We were welcomed by our lovely host, Thilak, with tea and cakes. The view from our room was absolutely stunning and made this our most serene stay in Sri Lanka. Just a quick walk along the train tracks from central town (train station, bars, restaurants), this place is ideally located for a relaxed few days in the hills- and the best view for breakfast. Staying over new year, Thilak and his family kindly invited us to join them for a feast of curries and even gave us presents. A very kind man, our host also organised transport for us to our next location at short notice. Absolutely recommend! Basic accommodation, but with everything you need in a gorgeous setting. Thank you!

Absolutely stunning views from our room! Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Place is 20mins walk from town but plenty of tuk tuks around if you need them! Would definitely stay here again!

One of the best hosts we had so far! Our stay was just perfect. Everything was clean, Thilak and his wife, the on wers, cared and helped us with everything. Very friendly and honest people. Dinner was magnificent and the breakfast as well. The property is just set directly in nature, farmers and you even see the little Ravanna Falls. There are several Eagels, Peacocks, Chameleon and more animals to spot. With a Tuk Tuk you have not more than 8' min to the Ella Train Station. And it costs 300Rup, if they charge more just ask them to call Thilak. What ever you need Thilak is going to help you. Thank you again for all :) ps. Ask Thilak to organise a cooking class in Lanka's Restaurant. On of our highlights.

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
