The space
Tucked away in a truly quiet setting, you won’t hear traffic here—if more than two boats are on Old Man’s Lake, it’s considered “busy.” Unlike cottages near highways, the closest main road is about 25 minutes away, with Hwy 11 nearly 30 minutes out.

Need supplies? The well-loved, family-run Cornball store—known for its homemade baked goods and groceries—is just a 4-minute drive.

Surrounded by stunning scenery, this area shines in every season, especially during peak fall colours. Take a short 700 m walk to historic Old Man’s Creek, visit the unique Screaming Heads in Burk’s Falls (approx. 12 km), enjoy nearby horseback riding, or simply relax at the dock, gazebo, or cottage deck.

Evenings are made for fires by the shore—perfect for s’mores and roasted marshmallows. Unwind on the dock, in the hammock, or with a book (a selection is available). Thermacell and bug zappers help manage occasional mosquitoes, which typically fade as the night cools.

For fun, enjoy outdoor lawn games (ring toss, cornhole, bocce—located in the mudroom), plus indoor board games, cards, and an Xbox One.

On the water, guests have access to a 14-foot aluminum boat (outboard motor available for an additional fee), two kayaks, one canoe, life vests, and noodles.

Indoors, stream Netflix, Prime (BritBox, PBS Masterpiece, Acorn), Crave, or Bell Fibe, or enjoy a DVD or a good read.

Guest access
Starlink high-speed internet is available for surfing and streaming, and basic TV cable is included.

Guests are free to explore the property, with the expectation that neighbours and the environment are respected. Garage access is provided for garbage storage only.

We live in Huntsville and are limited to one garbage bag per week, so trash must be taken with you. Recyclables can remain at the cottage, as Huntsville has no limits on recycling.

Other things to note
Bedding & Towels
No need to bring bulky bedding or towels. Each bed comes with freshly washed and sanitized linens, pillows, extra blankets for chilly nights, and one electric blanket. Bring a favourite pillow if you like. Shower, hand towels, and face cloths are provided.

Kitchen & Essentials
We provide basic spices, oils, balsamic vinegar, toilet paper, paper towels, tea, coffee, popcorn (with a brand-new popcorn maker), cleaning supplies, garbage bags, and even dog pee pads if needed. Occasionally, we replenish items you may forget, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower gel, sunscreen, or bug spray—help yourselves.

Coffee Options
Choose from K-cups (we supply a few to get you started), coffee beans + grinder, drip coffee machine with filters and ground coffee, or a coffee maker with a built-in grinder. Bring favourite K-cup flavours if you like.

What to Bring
Drinking water, water for coffee/tea/cooking, and personal toiletries. Lake water is used for dishes and showers, but not for drinking. Thermacell DEET-Free Mosquito Repellent, bug spray, and bug rackets are provided.

Location & Activities
This is a remote area with no designated bike trails, but local cyclists often explore the hilly, winding roads. Enjoy historic Old Man’s Creek, scenic lake views, and outdoor activities at your leisure.

Beds & Occupancy
The cottage has four double beds (three slightly smaller than a standard double), custom made in 2023. Magnetawan by-laws limit occupancy to two people per bedroom, so we can accommodate up to six guests.

Basic Rules
1. Respect the cottage, property, and neighbours. Noise should be kept to a minimum. Magnetawan STR rules are strict; violations (noise, fires, overcapacity) may incur fines passed on to guests.
2. The toilet system is septic—use only the provided toilet paper. No wipes or feminine hygiene products. Disposal bags are available.
3. Extra unregistered guests are not allowed; exceeding capacity will incur fines.
4. Pick up after pets—poop bags are provided.
5. No smoking or vaping indoors. Outside smoking is allowed if all waste is collected.
6. Take garbage with you; recyclables can remain.
7. Turn off lights, A/C, and heating when departing.
