Sandbanks provincial park is just a 3 minute drive, you won't find a better location for a relaxing beach holiday. Our 3-bedroom + sunroom property offers plenty of interior space, plus an acre of outdoor green space where you can enjoy a campfire or throw a frisbee in the large yard. The deck at the back of the cottage faces acres of natural wetlands sanctuary - perfect for bird lovers, or enjoy the sounds of nature over a relaxed meal and delightful glass of County wine.
The space
This is an old rustic farm house (the original lot was from the 1800s) with a few modern updates. It's out in the country, so you can expect to encounter wildlife of all types... outside you may see birds, chipmunks, turtles, frogs, squirrels, and more. But don't be surprised to find the occasional ant or spider too. You'll find a sprinkling of antiques, old plankwood flooring upstairs. It's a wood-frame construction, so sound insulation is not the same as a modern home - you may hear traffic at night if you're a light sleeper. Each room has a double bed. Our house shows it's age, but offers a little character as well. A great place for a romantic escape, beach holiday, or family get togethers. We hope you love it as much as our family does, we have so many pleasant memories that we've built here, and this space is part of them.
We've been busy with small improvements on the cottage as well this spring. The entire place has been painted, rear sunroom has new flooring, three windows and the patio door have been replaced, and new living room furniture (leather couch and chair). In addition, we've also tried to be more eco-efficient, so have added 3 interior cooling units with a heat pump... not only cooler and comfortable, but better for the environment too.
We should also mention that, you'll also get a complimentary park pass during your stay (Sandbanks requires you still need to call to book in advance to use it). We recommend going to the park early if you can since it's much quieter, but the new reservation system does still remove a lot of the lineups at all times of day, so sleep in if you like - you're on vacation after all!
Guest access
Enjoy full access to the entire house and deck. The yard and property is approximately 1 acre. When facing the house, the right side of the property is bounded by a line of signs (the pond is in the neighbour's yard and off limits). The left side of the yard is the largest, extending a couple of hundred meters to the left, and includes a large open yard (and campfire pit beyond the fence), and is bounded by a group of maple trees that separate our yard from the neighbours.
Other things to note
Prior to your stay we'll give you the code to a lockbox so that you can access the keys. A park pass is also included as part of your stay (don't forget to put it on the table when you check out after your stay).
The yard is abuts West Lake Rod, which can get quite busy in summer. If you have young children please be cautious of that. The smaller fenced-off area of the yard may come in handy in that case.
