All about Sarah’s place

The Hideaway is close to both Kakanui's river and the beach and a short drive from Oamaru's art and culture, restaurants and dining, great views, and family-friendly activities. You’ll love my place because of the views, the location, and the ambiance. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).

The space
Hidden away in a quiet part of the coastal village of Kakanui our bach is the perfect spot for small families or couples alike.

The Hideaway provides a clean, modern and comfortable place to enjoy your Kakanui holiday, we hope you'll enjoy our wee bach as much as we do. The garden and house is child friendly and we have provided some toys and games for the kids to enjoy! There are 2 bedrooms one with a queen size bed and the other has bunks, we can also provide and camp stretcher for an extra $20 per night.

Warm and cosy, the heat pump provides quick, clean and efficient heating for the whole bach and there is an electric blanket on the queen bed and wheat bags are provided for the bunks. We now have gas hot water - so no need to wait for the boiler to heat up and hot water for everyone!

The drive provides off road parking with enough room for 2 vehicles.

There is a wonderful outdoors area which gets all day sun when you want to sit and relax, the garden is fully fenced and there is a BBQ for you to fire up and enjoy, help yourself to some herbs out of the herb garden and create something delicious! Or head into Oamaru (10 min coastal drive) for a choice of great cafes and restaurants. Head north to check out the award winning Riverstone or south to Moeraki and visit Fleur's Place. In fact you don't have to go very far at all as Kakanui has a fabulous cafe of its own, Coast serves some of the best fish and chips around, eat in or takeaway (currently under renovation).

In a few minutes you can be strolling along the gorgeous Campbells Bay and All Day Bay, swimming, fishing, surfing or checking out the rock pools. In the other direction is the Kakanui River mouth which is very popular for white baiting (seasonally). Other activities include playing tennis, spotting penguins, seals and even the occasional dolphin, building sandcastles or playing a round of golf!

Kakanui is a magic wee spot, a great place to take some time out, relax and enjoy!

Where you’ll be

Kakanui, Otago, New Zealand

Our bach is located in the quiet, family-friendly costal village of Kakanui. The coastline of North Otago is beautiful with vast sandy beaches which provide both excellent surfing and safe swimming spots. The wildlife is also abundant......penguins, seals, dolphins are often seen out to sea - not to mention the rock pools to explore and the excellent fishing and whitebaiting!
Within Kakanui is the fab fish and chip restaurant, Coast, with its stunning views, over the bridge small stalls were the local market gardeners sell their seasonal produce and a small diary for all the necessities including petrol.
And with only a 10 minute drive to the historical town of Oamaru which is buzzing with galleries, cafes and restaurants, shopping and cultural experiences. Oamaru is the finishing point for the Alps to Ocean cycle way and is THE place to experience and learn about Steampunk!!
