Diana's place is absolutely beautiful. We had an enormous room with everything you could wish for including a massive bed with plenty of room for us and our child. There are interesting paintings and books all over the house which has a warm bohemian, family feel. Best of all are the gardens and space outside which our son and dog enjoyed running around in and then there's Basil the friendliest dog ever. Diana was very accommodating especially considering we arrived so late due to Bank Holiday traffic and cooked us a delicious breakfast with fresh goose eggs!

Laid back and peaceful environment but with all the key ingredients in place to provide a very comfortable stay. Great location nothing was more than 20 minutes away for either the South Devon Coast or the fascinating Totnes with it’s history of alternative culture. I have stayed in some amazing places, this was my first 'home stay' as I couldn't face another overpriced and underpar seaside environment and I was not disappointed, a jaded traveller I now tend to seek out the unusual and believe I’ve found a real treasure! The house is charming and quirky and full of wonderful books and eclectic artworks, kilims thrown randomly on the floor and huge tapestry covered sofas positioned around the fireplace. My room was not large but didn’t need to be with a comfortable really decent bed, lovely crisp freshly laundered sheets, and a good sized ensuite bathroom. We were lucky to have enjoyed beautiful daytime weather during our brief stay but it was cold at night and found the warm fire set in the sitting room to be a welcoming touch after returning home from dinner each evening. The mornings at the house were relaxed and laid back, a very good organic breakfast of lovely breads, homemade confits and mostly local produce served at a civilised time [we chose] 9am served in the dining room, delicious duck eggs if you are lucky, a real treat. This is a special place, a little different and in my opinion quite groovy and not to be measured by the dreaded ‘TripAdvisor’ standards. Nota bene: Eating: 25 minutes by car: The Vineyard Kitchen, Sharpham Estate. Locally caught fish and shellfish, wood fired oven, local meats grilled over own vine prunings, good salads and simple puddings. 15mins by car: Seeds to Totnes , High st. Totnes. Excellent veggie supper and lovely ambience all you can eat for £10.00 bring your own wine. Friday evenings only. 10 minutes by car: Maltster’s Arms, Tuckenhay. Lovely picturesque waterside Inn, good fresh fish and shellfish, formerly owned by Keith Floyd. Visiting: 15 minutes by car: Market day, Totnes, Saturday mornings. Flea market 25 minutes by car: Sharpham Estate, famous for it’s cheese and English wines, visits daily.

We arrived with our dog to a warm welcome, with cups of tea and cuddles with Basil. Diane was helpful, offering things to do nearby, although she certainly respected our privacy. The property is unique, and we loved the old books in our room, and the views of the pretty garden with ducks and chickens roaming about. A great, dog-friendly overnight stay. Would definitely return.
