House rules
This place isn’t suitable for children under 12 and the host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
Our home will be cleaned to the safety standards of this new era. Door handles, light switches, power points ~ everything will be cleaned with antibacterial cleansers. And all dishes will visit the dishwasher.

A quiet bushland location, with birds and serenity.

Enjoy a quiet coffee and a great book, a good wine with a cheese platter, or grab your binoculars and take in the array of birds to delight the senses with both sight and sound.

It's all here at The Shady Rest ~ Adelaide Hills Retreat.

The space
With no close neighbours, it's like we own the entire reserve adjoining our property and within minutes you can be down the hill, surrounded by native vegetation and in a paradise that could be miles from anywhere.

And all this is a mere ten minute walk from the railway station and a 15 minute drive to the beach. Or a one hour drive to the Kangaroo Island Ferry.

A perfect place to unwind after a day out exploring or simply spend time relaxing on the deck with a good book and your favourite brew!

Guest access
You may enter via either the front or back door (same key), which takes you through the living area of the house to your rooms - a double bedroom, single bedroom with breakfast provisions and exclusive use of a newly renovated bathroom.

A family room with TV and sound system for you to enjoy the indoors, or a deck to soak in the outdoors, gazing into the treetops.

Either the sloping driveway or steps (with handrail) will bring you down to the house, so you need to be ok with slopes or steps.

We're friendly and approachable people, so we welcome you to come and go when it suits you, being mindful of others if this needs to be very early or very late.

Early luggage drop off can be arranged and a late checkout may work, depending on another same-day booking.

Other things to note
We'd prefer that you don't bring unbooked guests home please. Chat with us first if you wish to invite others into our home.

Location

Eden Hills, South Australia, Australia

Eden Hills is a hidden gem! It's a quiet and safe area to live.

The capital city of Adelaide is 1/2 hour by train (Belair line, getting off at Eden Hills, just after the tunnel). The Eden Hills Railway Station is a 10 minute walk from our house.

At the bottom of our garden you could be miles from anywhere. We're on a large sloping house block (the house is quite close to the road, down a few steps or a short driveway. The most sloping part of property is behind the house - off the deck).

We are surrounded by bushland, a multitude of bird varieties and a new and amazing sunset awaits us every night. We have our own little patch of ocean visible through the trees in the reserve right next to our house.

It's not unusual to see a koala and occasionally a kangaroo too.

If you want to go to Kangaroo Island you can meet the bus in the city or drive to the ferry from here. If you have a car you can be at the McLaren Vale wine region in 1/2 hour.

With a deck at the back of the house overlooking a beautiful gully, you sit with a coffee or a wine and gaze into treetops to relax at the end of your day of sightseeing.

An outdoor setting awaits at breakfast time, so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature as you ease into the day.

We have a paved car park exclusively for guests.

With the advantage of being close to the city, we enjoy living in a glorious bush setting.

My husband, Ron, and I are easy to get on with people, who like to walk around looking at buildings, museums, gardens etc, rather than getting involved in the night life. We like chatting to people, but don't expect to be entertained. We both speak English and I also speak German and basic Auslan. We like a mixture of experiences, so sometimes we are happy to have things done for us, like on the cruise where I don't need to cook, but we are also happy to cook our own meals for some of the time, which is why we like AirBnB rather than a hotel. We're looking forward to meeting people from around the world as we host visitors. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks, Gail and Ron Miller
