Abby's Shabby Shack is our contribution to the "Tiny House" movement, so please be prepared for a gas califont shower, composting toilet and sleeping platform amongst the trees!

The space

Abby's Shabby Shack is a "Tiny-House" in Monro Street - we built The Shabby Shack as an exercise in sustainable and eco-friendly living. We started in February, 2015 and welcomed our first guests in December, 2015.

Incorporating all the best features from the Tiny House Movement and George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, Abby's Shabby Shack is hand-built from mainly recycled materials. Starting with the converted Glider Trailer as a base, and less than 10 sq mtrs in floor area, the design evolved as we progressed.

Some of the more exciting and interesting features are:
- double bed sleeping platform with a roof that opens to the trees and sky
- recycled corrugated-iron roof and rear wall cladding
- recycled leadlight and stained glass windows, all except one of which open
- window-seat/lounger beneath the large, colonial bar garden window
- large french doors opening on to our garden
- self-contained bathroom including on-demand califont shower and eco-toilet.

Note: although Abby's Shabby Shack only sleeps two adults, we can accommodate families by including The White Wabbit tiny caravan (if available) at an additional charge.

Guests have full access to our "Secret Garden"; a tree-lined retreat within walking distance of Blenheim town centre. Relax amongst the established trees (with native birds) and soak up the marvellous Marlborough "Provencal" air.

We are always available for advise or even just a chat. Guests are welcome to join us for the frequent "cuppas" we partake on the verandah and in the garden, as well as the occasional glass of award-winning Marlborough wine.

Monro Street is situated right in the heart of Blenheim and is 4-5 minutes walk from all the cafes, restaurants and amenities of the town centre.
We are less than 15 minutes drive from most of the significant (and world-famous) Marlborough Wineries, and 25 minutes drive from Picton, the Gateway to the Marlborough Sounds.

Blenheim has a limited public bus service. Taxis are convenient and readily accessible, and there are many options for Wine Tours and Sightseeing Tours.

Special Extras:

We also offer "Tea In A Secret Garden" - a classic NZ High Tea for Two in our Garden.

We provide sandwiches, small savouries, scones and homemade jam with whipped cream, chocolate eclairs and a "cake-of-the-day", along with unlimited pots of tea and personal service from our Kiwi Butler. There is a selection of teas, both imported from Paris and our own private blends. All food is "homemade" and the cost is $35 per head. It also comes with a Tea Talk - a brief history and social commentary about Tea.

If you would like to book just select it as an "Optional Extra" along with your booking request, or include the option in your enquiry, and we will pencil you in.

Guest access

You will have access to our entire garden - right in the centre of Blenheim but surrounded by established trees and shrubbery. Peaceful, relaxing, and we will do everything we can to make your state unique and a "one-of-a-kind" experience.

Interaction with guests

We are world-wide travellers ourselves and appreciate that not everyone likes how we socialise. If you are looking for somewhere to just "chill" and get away from it all for a while we can easily accommodate that! Our philosophy is that each to their own and let's all enjoy our lives!

Other things to note

Abby's Shabby Shack is a "Tiny House", so please be prepared for some compromise but it is all about your comfort.

What an amazing place to stay! Peter was very friendly and made the check in experience really easy. Close to town, only a quick walk to some Chinese and the city centre, I would recommend staying here again sometime!

Peter and Heather are fantastic hosts who were very friendly and accommodating during our stay. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable during the chilly nights that we stayed in their tiny home. The home itself is truly unique and accurate to the description. Thanks again for the recommendations for meals out in town.

What a great little place to stay, Peter and Heather are great hosts and very welcoming. It's fascinating to hear the story behind the shack's beginnings and we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone who wants somewhere central to explore Blenheim and the Marlborough vineyards.
