The space
Sweet self catering eco-tiny house on gorgeous private 1760s heritage farm just a few mins from Mahone Bay and the highway, 25 min to Lunenburg.

Custom vintage details make this a unique, charming and cozy retreat. The focus of our farm is ‘traditions that nurture’ - this carries from the land to our animal family to our guests. This sweet cottage was built from wood harvested here on this very property. The farm is uniquely situated in nature with no near neighbours, except for visiting deer, owls and other forest friends yet is just a short drive from Mahone Bay, the highway, fresh water swimming, beaches and south shore attractions.

All basic amenities are provided in the cottage along with luxury touches. There is a fridge/freezer, gas hot plate & a toaster convection oven suitable for simple meals. Comforts include towels, bedding, cooking pots and pans, coffee press, dishes & cutlery - starter coffee and tea too. Plush robes are provided for excursions to the hot tub. Unwind and recharge with a deep soak in the hot tub under the starry skies. With 0 light pollution, no road noise and no neighbours this 'nature immersion' is a truly magical and blissful experience. Combine with a curated farm-to-table grazing board and farmhouse gourmet breakfast delivered to your door for the ultimate oasis experience (as farm schedules allow). Idle out for a hike on the property and of course enjoy some goat cuddles. What memories are made of!

Things to note:
- Strictly NON-smoking and NO pets or outside visitors permitted *Ignoring our non smoking rule will result in a $100 addl cleaning fee. We are tired of offering exceptions to guests who show up and announce they are smokers. Such bookings will automatically incur a $100 addl fee and/or be asked to vacate. * It IS possible to smoke outside the farm gates.
- Delicious drinking water from the tap (deep artesian well)
- Recent wifi upgrades
- Outdoor fire pit provided. Firewood can be purchased for $10 per milk crate (advance notice please). Campfires are conditional on local seasonal fire laws and wind conditions.
-Heating and A/C is provided by a mini split heat pump.
- There is a queen size bed & pull out dbl sofa bed (pls pre-book the latter so we can provide addl bedding). As the space is an open plan studio, please be aware of space and privacy limitations if you are a group of 3 or 4 adults.
* If you are a larger group, consider booking both Moonshadow Yurt and the cottage (suitable for a combined total of up to 8 people). We also have a pop-up Teepee for the kids or a single adult.
- As a working farm, walking surfaces may be uneven in places and there may be mud at certain times of the year in places. Appropriate seasonal footwear is recommended, including sturdy footwear for visiting the farm animals. It is possible that insects will be encountered and no refunds will be given.
- We are continually improving the cottage and some exterior and minor interior finishings may not be aesthetically complete during your stay.

Additional Amenities:
>Your private 7person size hot tub is available free for stays of 3 nights or more, or an additional amenity charge of $20 per person for stays of 1 or 2 nights (robes provided). Please book and pay in advance via AirBB or etransfer.

May be Available:
> Our grazing boards (vegn option often available) and brekkie baskets are $35 for up to 2ppl. Larger sizes available. Please pre-order.
> Cheese making classes are $65 for a 1hr cheese making demo or $95 for a 2hr hands-on cultured cheese class (for up to 2ppl; slightly more if more ppl). Pre-booking required
> Firewood for the campfire available for $10 per box of wood.

As a real working farm, we are best suited to singles, couples, friends and families with older (or very young) children - ie. those capable of following guidance on farm safety. ** Children must remain with a parent at all times while outside and cannot be left to play unattended, climb on machinery, chase free ranging chickens etc. We offer add-on packages for children and adults who would like to milk a goat and much more (covid-protocols and dependent on season, schedules etc). Ask about 'Live like a Farmer' packages, which are sometimes available.

During the summer we may have bottle fed baby goats, which guests may be able to help feed. Goat cuddles year long :-) (weather dependent). Pig ear scratches sometimes on offer.

We have a farm shop on site where you can purchase treats and essentials such as farm fresh free range heritage breed (coloured) eggs, jams and jellies, soap and various other treats and supplies (such as s'more packs for the fire, chocolate and energy bars, fireside popcorn, Perrier and other drinks). Open to guests. We have outdoor deck at the shop for enjoying a coffee, lunch & snacks while watching the goats frolic in nearby pastures - guests are welcome to relax at their leisure.

pls note: failure to abide by our no pet policy will result in immediate eviction and a pet cleaning fee of $200. As a working farm, biosecurity issues are paramount and we expect guests to respect this impt rule.

Where you’ll be

Blockhouse, Nova Scotia, Canada

Just 7-8 minutes from Mahone Bay, our road is 4 km from exit 11 of highway 103. Lunenburg is also relatively close. This is one of the original properties settled by Germans who immigrated to this region in the 1760s. The beaches of the south shore are all accessible and MushaMush Provincial park (swimming lake) is a 12 km drive straight up the road inland. A bike can get you there if feeling energetic!

** Please take note that it is essential to follow our easy driving directions, and not rely on popular navigation systems - which may direct via non-functioning roads. We are just off the main 325 road, and this is the ONLY way to safely reach us.

I'm a city girl from Newfoundland who's lived abroad and traveled for many years before finally returning to Canada to become the crazy goat lady in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. I used to work in sticky issues like over-fishing and environmental conflict - and well, sooner or later everyone in those fields wants to take up a few goats and live simply (only half kidding). I'm a massive animal lover and have spent a great many years traveling, reading, taking courses, helping out on others, and finally - now, having my very own farm. And now my own micro-dairy, a goat cheese creamery where we produce all manner of deliciousness. I hope I'm down to earth and welcoming. I don't get to travel much anymore (ever....) and hosting guests is a nice way for me to have some human interaction.. I love supporting others in learning heritage skills and living a bit closer to the land. I'm a Carpe diem type of person. There may occasionally be the stray piece of hay in your room (sorry but it's a farm... sigh), but you won't want for a warm welcome.

During your stay

We love visitors and part of our focus in farming is educational. We often teach and have farm helpers from other countries. I have alot of domestic and international travel experience, having lived overseas for years and traveled to over 50 countries. Farm tours are sometimes possible but cannot be guaranteed. Guests can interact with some farm animals with guidance. Pls note that a farm is not a safe place for unaccompanied children so we must insist parents be with children at all times.
