Where you’ll be

Cooke City , Montana, United States

Cooke City is an isolated little town in the mountains where snowmobile riding is very popular between November and April each winter. Located right outside the north east entrance to Yellowstone National Park and surrounded by National Forests, this town is an ultimate retreat into nature; so much so that there is no cell phone service here. Cross country skiing and other winter activities, as well as photography, are also popular. The people are friendly and there's fun to be found in one of the bar/restaurants each night. There is also a neat historical museum at the Visitors Center. Sweet Pea Grocery and Gifts, and Stop the Car are two little shops worth stopping in on. Keep an eye out for some local artist galleries and crafters too! During the winter Cooke City is the dead end on highway 212, only road in Yellowstone National Park open at the time. Peak season is between June and September. If you travel to Cooke City outside of peak season be prepared for fewer restaurants and conveniences and/or shortened hours.

We live in Cooke City year-round and love it! It's a challenging place to live, but we have adapted and enjoy being surrounded by nature and out of cell phone range. Our company is JT's Upkeep and Property Management LLC and it helps a number of cabins in Cooke City and Silver Gate. We own property near Joshua Tree National Park that we hope to add to our hosting in the coming years!
