Guests love this home’s scenic location.
We built this custom-designed 2 bedroom home to take maximum advantage of the 300 degree views of the lake, volcano and national forest. A vacation rental since 2011, we consistently welcome guests over 300 days per year. Why? Because we offer the unique combination of privacy and peace within an authentic Tico village surrounded by all the best that nature can offer in Costa Rica. We're hard to get to but as you will read in review after review, it's worth the trip!
The space
Two large bedrooms, each with an ensuite bath, open onto one of our most-popular features, a huge enclosed sunroom on the second floor that lets you enjoy the surroundings, regardless of weather. The main floor features an open-space kitchen, living and dining area opening onto a covered deck plus a 2 pc powder room. Outside, our favorite space is the covered gazebo, tucked into the garden, where you can watch the hummingbirds and butterflies in comfort. The splash pool is just the right size to cool off or carry on a conversation with family and friends on the accompanying deck.
Guest access
All areas of the house except the laundry. Due to the high cost of appliances in the country, we only allow our staff to access the laundry area. If you would like to have personal laundry done during your visit, just ask our hosts and the maid will do it for a small additional charge.
Other things to note
TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIRED:
As of April 2021, visitors to Costa Rica must provide proof of emergency medical insurance with coverage of at least $50,000 for hospitalization. After researching all the alternatives, we found a policy with Trawick International that gives $250,000 of medical coverage plus $30,000 of damage protection for car rentals. The price was lower than quoted by the Costa Rican government for their own system. The best place to research the latest rules regarding the pandemic is The Tico Times which you can find online.

Where you’ll be
El Castillo, Alajuela, Costa Rica
This is the highest house on our road leading out of the little village of El Million which is why our views are so spectacular. You will need a good 4x4 vehicle to access it. Many parts of the village are walkable. Hikes and trail rides start right at your door. Most attractions are a relatively short drive away. But don't overplan your visit. Let our hosts help arrange tours. It's best to plan around the weather. Make sure you leave enough time for the best aspect of a vacation in Costa Rica- relaxing with a book by the pool or meeting the wonderful people in the village.
