Tommy Bit is our shepherd's hut for 2 in Borrowdale, the heart of the Lake District. Enjoy fantastic views, cook up a meal on the campfire or curl up on the sofa in front of the wood burning stove. Fabulous walks from the hut to the lake and fells.
Please note, we can usually only offer arrivals on Fridays and Mondays. If you wish to arrive on a day other than Monday or Friday please get in touch and we can check if we can help you. Tommy Bit is our cosy, traditionally styled shepherd's hut in Borrowdale, the English Lake District, which is nestled at the foot of the fells with wonderful valley and woodland views. Shower and toilet facilities are in our barn about 40m away. Glamping at its best! Keep snug in the winter with Tommy Bit's wood burning stove, or cook outside in the summer on the fire pit. Relax after a day exploring the Lakes in our wood fired outdoor hot tub (£25 for exclusive use for a day, please book in advance). We provide tea & coffee and Tommy Bit has a kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge inside and a fire pit outside for you to cook up an outdoor storm! Or you can try one of the local hotels for dinner. Bed linen, towels, crockery, cutlery and appropriate cooking things are provided. Tommy Bit has a fold down small double bed (4ft wide instead of 4ft 6), which folds away, fully made up, into a sofa in the day. There is a folding table with stools inside as well as outdoor table and chairs. In case of rain, a tarpaulin can be suspended from wires above the outdoor area. There is a shared room nearby with washer, drier, lots of tourist information and puzzles and games that you can take back to the hut. We also provide all our guests with our 'walks from the door' which we have written ourselves: 12 walks of varying lengths that you can enjoy straight out of the gate.
Manesty is less than a mile from the Derwentwater lakeshore and about the same distance from the pretty village of Grange, with its teashops and double hump-backed bridge over the River Derwent. The 'Honister Ramber' bus takes you the 5 miles into Keswick (which has the nearest shops) from the doorstep between Easter and November, or the launch runs all-year round, as does a bus from Grange. We're in a perfect location for walks, water sports, touring the villages, or just sitting back to relax! We're at the foot of Catbells, which is well known as the Lake's favourite beginner's fellwalk, but there are also challenging day hikes up Scafell (the highest mountain in England) or relaxing rambles by the lake or in the woods.
  • Had a fantastic stay, Alan & Cheryl were amazing hosts who were really accommodating, and were always available if we ever needed them. Perfect place to stay near Keswick but feel like you are a million miles away, definitely a must place to stay

  • The Shepard’s hut is cosy and has everything you could need for a weekend away. We would definitely recommend the hot tub! The walks from the door are great too and there is something for all levels. Alan and Cheryl are great hosts and will make sure you have everything you need for a great stay.

  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The hut was lovely and cosy and we had everything we needed. We could tell a lot of thought had gone into ensuring visitors got the most out of their time here and we really appreciated all the information provided. In particular, the walks from the door were very useful and allowed us to do a couple of decent hikes despite not being familiar with the area. The location was absolutely fantastic with beautiful views - even better than we imagined! Would massively recommend booking the fire powered hot tub for the day which was a unique experience and it was lots of fun making the fire too!

  • The shepherds hut was fantastic!! Such a cute, homely space where we felt like we had got away from the world into this space of simplicity! Had to think about food before we went as there are limited cooking facilities. Comfortable and warm enough (we went over new year), lovely and cosy! Alan was great - he gave us lots of local tips and was clearly very passionate about the property. We didn’t get use of the hot tub sadly as it was booked up, however we never saw it in use during our stay. Would recommend :)

  • We stayed for 3 nights in the shepherd’s hut and have not a bad word to say about our time. The space was clean and comfortable and cosy. The views were stunning. Communication from Alan and Cheryl was fabulous. We were told all we needed to know and more and really appreciate the effort that is made to make sure we got the most from our trip like Alan’s knowledge of the local area and the walks from the door. The facilities by the accomodation were also absolutely great and we didn’t want for anything. Despite visiting in December and the weather leaving a lot to be desired our stay was comfortable and we were warm and cosy. We hired the hot tub and would definitely recommend. It was a treat even in poor weather. The walk into Keswick was an easy one and it’s such a lovely town. A fantastic spot for a few nights away from the hustle and bustle. We will definitely be back!

  • Great place to get away from it all-thankyou.

  • Alan & Cheryl are wonderful, attentive and hospitable hosts. Their cabin was comfortable and quaint. Perfect if you're seeking an escape from the city and a calming weekend in nature. Definitely recommend the hot tub!

  • This was such a fun experience! We learned how to prepare some of our favorite Indian dishes in a professional kitchen with the chefs that work there, including learning to make roti and naan. Afterwards we were led to the beautiful roof top dining area and were served the food we made, while listening to live music. We absolutely recommend this super fun experience. We can’t wait to prepare the foods we learned to make for friends and family when we get home!

  • Great experience, learnt a lot about the ingredients! Definitely recommend

  • Lovely experience. Manoj was very communicative beforehand via messaging. The cook was an expert and Manoj translated clearly and well. It was fun to be in a working kitchen and everything was prepared and ready for us. The food was very yummy.

  • Great experience - fun to learn genuine Indian cooking and it was all really tasty

    David2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • We learned how to cook some authentic Indian dishes and it was a great experience! Very friendly hosts answered all our questions and made us feel very welcome. Would recommend this class and get some tea on the rooftop after!

  • Phenomenal group of cooks and host. The food we cooked was delicious and special given our hands on creation. It’s a little warm in the kitchen so you may want to dress accordingly but once the burners were off it wasn’t bad at all. Thanks for a great experience!!!

    Donnie2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience! So good of you need to get away from everything and just take in the world around you! Will definitely be returning.

  • We had a wonderful stay in our yurt! The campsite itself is excellent, with lovely showers and great amenities. The location is perfect for hiking, climbing, canyoning etc and there's a pub within walking distance. The yurt itself is very spacious with good facilities for cooking. And very romantic! We struggled a little with the log burner and it got a bit chilly at night but under the duvets we were perfectly warm! Highly recommended and would stay again ina heartbeat!

A very compact (small) double room with a beautiful view across the valley. Village location. Suited for both flat and fell walks. Four and a half miles from market town of Keswick with a variety of eating and shopping choices. Our rooms are priced in line with the youth hostels in the valley and are considerably less expensive than other accommodation. Our non-provision of towels forms part of our effort to keep prices as low as possible.
Our location is perfect for anyone wanting a quiet location with immediate access to walks from the door. Guests are invited into our home where they have use of a shared bathroom. Their room is very compact and there minimal floor space between the bed, chair and wardrobe and the bed is accessible from only one side; it is equiped with TV. They can access the kitchen for tea/coffee and also the garden if the weather is good. The bbq is available by prior arrangement and a small fee. At an additional cost of £5 per person we provide breakfast of cereals, eggs, toast and preserves each morning from 8.30 to 9am. Guests may be asked to cook this themselves if I am at work, however if I am home then they may relax whilst it is prepared for them. Please note that cooking of other meals in the kitchen is not possible. As we live here too our guests will undoubtedly see us around, we are happy to chat and assist in any way to make their stay pleasant and comfortable but we are mindful that guests will want to spend their time peacefully together. To this end the rooms are equipped with sky tv. The neighbourhood is quiet but friendly. There are frequently a lot of tourists and walkers in the village and there are two nice cafes within half a mile (please note that both of these cafes close at around 5.30 in the afternoon). Public transport is the local bus service with buses running to the nearest town (Keswick) hourly in the summer season (less frequently during the winter months). I have two dogs (non-moulting) and a cat, so those who don't like animals may prefer to stay in an animal free house. Please note that due to poor internet service, we are no longer able to offer this.
The neighbourhood is quiet but friendly. There are frequently a lot of tourists and walkers in the village and there are two nice cafes within half a mile.
  • Lovely little place, fab location and so so clean! Very welcoming host even in uncertain times.

Our self contained studio is in the heart of the Lake District National Park in north west England. It has stunning valley, forest and woodland views from the window. Our nearest town is Keswick (just 5 miles by bus, boat, boot or car).
Our studio apartment is in the English Lake District. With it's own entrance, super king size bed, dining area, en suite shower and separate kitchenette it has everything you need for a short break (or longer!) away in the Lakes. We can usually only accommodate arrivals on Mondays and Fridays, please get in touch if you wish to arrive on another day and we will see if we can accommodate you. Cocklety How Studio is in the first floor of a converted 17th Century barn at Manesty in Borrowdale, in the heart of the Lake District. The studio has its own entrance at the back of the building at ground level (first floor). The galley kitchenette has a combination oven/grill/microwave, hob-plate, kettle, toaster and fridge with icebox. The super-king bed can be made up as two singles. The Studio has a great view over the valley of Borrowdale. By the entrance is a private sunny patio looking up into the woodland, home to owls, rare red squirrels and other little mammals. You are free to explore the wood, which is also where our wood-fired hot tub is found - this is available for £25 per day for exclusive use, please book in advance.
Manesty is less than a mile from the Derwentwater lakeshore and about the same distance from the pretty village of Grange, with its teashops and double hump-backed bridge over the River Derwent. The 'Honister Ramber' bus takes you into Keswick (5 miles) from the doorstep between Easter and November, or the launch runs all-year round, as does a bus from Grange. • Lovely place in a great area for walking and very close to Keswick (10 mins in the car). Great hosts with a lot of local knowledge and the place was spotless. The only little problem that we had was that there was no lighting around the hot tub so it was absolutely pitch black by the time we got in - would be much better in the lighter nights though! We are definitely hoping to return in the nicer weather.

    Aimee2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly, helpful hosts and beautiful location. Everything you need in the studio and the rustic hot tub is great!

    Renol2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Alan and Cheryl are incredibly welcoming and gave us great tips for the area, including some good walks from right outside the door. The room itself was exactly as described.

    Sarah2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Alan and Cheryl are fantastic hosts. Extremely friendly and helpful yet professional and efficient. One of the best AirB&B stays I’ve had. Highly recommended.

    Karl2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Alan & Cheryl’s, they provided amazing accommodation close enough to Keswick for ease but also remote enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. They had great recommendations for activities, locations to visit, as well as a great list of walks. Thank you very much for the lovely stay

    Ingvar2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Alan and Cheryl’s place was exceptionally well located for our first trip to the Lake District, within 10 minutes drive of Keswick and 15 minutes drive to the start of the corridor route up Scafell Pike. The studio was clean and spacious with everything you would need for a weekend away. We really appreciated the advice on local walks and pubs/restaurants (a few of which are within easy walking distance from Manesty). If you fancy treating yourself there is also a very nice spa close by with an outdoor pool placed on the edge of lake Derwentwater.

    Katy2019-10-21T00:00:00Z

Little Swinside Cottage has an idyllic hillside setting and superb views stretching from the Vale of Lorton to the Scottish mountains. Wonderful walking at all levels, mountain biking in Whinlatter, dog friendly, hot tub available, good wifi, log burner, very peaceful, Keswick 8 miles. (NB. Additional disinfection with 70% alcohol is being carried out between guests currently as well as other special measures).
Little Swinside Cottage is one of 3 cottages at High Swinside perched on the slopes of Swinside fell overlooking the peaceful Lorton Valley. The Vale of Lorton is definitely one of the Lake District's hidden gems. Little Swinside is a converted former barn attached to High Swinside Farm. Some of the rooms have lovely oak beams and other original features. The cottage is centrally heated and very snug! On the ground floor of the cottage there is a patio room with its own terrace where you'll find table and chairs for enjoying the view or eating al fresco. The patio room includes a double sofa bed that can be used for a child or friend to sleep in if you wish (for a small extra charge). Most of the rest of the cottage accommodation is upstairs. The double bedroom is beamed and again has lovely views; the bed has a comfortable pocket-sprung mattress. The bathroom with bath and 'shower over' is just next door, while the sitting/dining room and kitchen lie beyond. The sitting room has a comfortable sofa, wood burning stove, tv/dvd, and a dining area looking out into the valley. The galley kitchen is well-equipped with stove, slow cooker, fridge, microwave, mixer. Guests also have access to a washing machine, tumbler drier, and freezer if they need (there is a small charge made for using the tumbler drier).
Lorton is a serene and unspoilt Lakeland valley that has remained largely off the beaten track despite its charm and proximity to Keswick and Cockermouth. The walking is excellent - with open fell access on the high Grasmoor fells behind the house, and beautiful walks at all levels throughout the Vale. See the captions under the photos for more idea of how much there is to do and see here, or if you search 'high swinside diana' you can see more walking and activities information on my site.
  • Beautiful cottage, stunning location! We loved every second of our stay. The hot tubs were the icing on the cake! Diana was a fantastic host and nothing was too much trouble. We can't wait to visit again!

    Emma2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended. Such a lovely welcoming and spotless cottage in beautiful surroundings. Diana is on hand for anything you might need but also respects privacy, perfect host. The views all around the cottage are fabulous. The location is fantastic if you prefer to be away from it all, but still within easy drive of towns and lakes. Despite the strong winds and rain during our stay this did not put us off as we cosied in front of the fire, feeling very safe inside as all the windows are new. Could not fault this cottage.

    Micheal2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Diana’s place is very comfortable and cosy , easy to find in a lovely part of the quieter area of the Lakes . The cottage had everything we needed and Diana was very helpful and friendly. The cottage is very clean and spacious. The hot tub is an added bonus worth requesting when you book with beautiful views over the valley . Diana was very attentive in ensuring the hot tub was ready for us when we returned in the afternoon.

    Sarah2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Diana's cottage in High Swinside. We visited nearby villages, enjoyed some pub lunches and went on a few walks to take in the scenery. Our favourite was our walk around the very scenic Buttermere Lake. Diana made us feel so welcome and was extremely accomodating throughout our stay. The hot tub is a lovely addition- very relaxing and enjoyable even in the drizzly British weather!

    Laura2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely weekend, great views and Diana was very attentive and was there when/if we needed anything

    Ryan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Diana’s cottage is lovely! The remote location, stunning views and wonderful hospitality really made our stay special. The cottage is wonderfully equipped, super cosy with the log burner & is the perfect place to relax, unwind & enjoy some of Cumbria’s wonderful walks & scenery. Our dog loved his stay just as much as we did. Diana has thought of everything! The hot tub is an added bonus. We cannot wait to return! Highly recommend this little gem.

    Hannah2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • My time at high swinside was beautiful, the house was so so cosy and the views were breathtaking, even in the rain!! The pictures really don’t do it justice. Location was amazing and Diana was wonderfully helpful and kind. Will 100% be returning and recommending to friends. The location was peaceful and private with not a car in sight and you could fully relax in the hot tub gazing at the surrounding mountains and hills. There is plenty of beautiful walks close by and Diana was very helpful in recommending some. A unique aspect I really liked was that It was so eco-friendly with the recycling and compost stations. The cottage was toasty and had everything you could need and even Netflix to sign into!! Five stars do not do the place justice.

    Hollie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful 2 nights stay. My only regret was I didn’t book for longer, which I will next time. Superb views, and walks from the cottage, which was so well equipped with everything we needed. Would highly recommend. Thank you Diana

  • This is a really spacious and comfortable house in a great location. It’s far out enough to avoid the crowds in Keswick (not that we saw any this week due to the CV outbreak) but having the pub opposite is very handy. We loved the hot tub and the smart tv was great. Excellent hosts and great place to stay.

  • Fell Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. It's very well presented, equipped and clean. We had a lovely stay. Trevor is super host surprising us with a New Year hamper and responding immediately to any questions we had. Thank you for making our New Year very special.

  • Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! Trevor is the perfect host with great communication and a beautiful home. We were so impressed with all the thoughtful little touches, especially where it came to catering for our toddler. They provided a cot with lovely warm cosy bedding, children’s plates and cutlery, high chair, stair gate and the access to Netflix was perfect in the evenings. The cottage is perfectly clean and cosy and is a fab vantage point for the lakes. Beds super comfy too! Just 5 star all round! If we return to the Lakes we know exactly where we want to stay again.

  • Just returned from a fabulous stay at Fellwood. I am a super fussy guest normally but this gorgeous little cottage exceeded my expectations in every way, I literally couldn’t fault a thing (except for the 1000 piece bird jigsaw...that was really tricky, but kept us all very busy ha ha!) We simply loved everything about the cottage, extremely clean, lovely little extras provided (Trevor has thought of everything) and perfect location close to great village pub. We will most definitely return, probably in the summer so we can enjoy the pretty garden!

Our cedar wood lodge has been designed and built for our family and friends to use when they visit. It is in a rural setting about 4 miles outside the market town of Cockermouth but is actually located in the Lake District National Park with stunning views over the fells, Skiddaw, Bassenthwaite Lake and Keswick. The lodge has been designed to make the most of those idyllic views and is a retreat for anyone wanting to relax, unwind and enjoy our “world Heritage” status.
The lodge is set in one of the most beautiful places in the country, on a working dairy farm, and we are privileged to call it our family home. The space is all on one level with four steps leading up to the main entrance. There are large sliding glass doors in both the living space and bedroom to maximize the fabulous views. They open up onto the bespoke decking where tables and seating are located. It is open-plan living with a large bedroom and en suite bathroom. The beds can be arranged as 2 singles or pushed together to create a super-king on request. It is detached and set privately away from the main house with its own entrance, garden and car park facilities. There is wrap around decking on two sides with a seating area on the scenic side to allow you to soak up the amazing views. The en-suite has a free standing shower as well as a separate bathtub for a good soak after a days hiking. The main living area has a beautiful shaker style kitchen with a table and 4 chairs. The comfy sofa and armchair are all situated to make the most of the outstanding scenery surrounding the lodge too. You will love it. We do!
The lodge is located in Isel which is a hamlet mainly made up of farms and small holdings. It is within the boundary of our family farm "Long Close". Our family have farmed this land for 100 years and would be more than happy to show you the walks through the farmland or answer any questions you may have about how we farm it. The towns of both Keswick and Cockermouth are within a 10-20 minute drive and have lots to offer including cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs. There are some wonderful walks and wildlife close by too.
  • This was the perfect place ever! Lodge was perfect and Mandy was an amazing host. The location was to die for, sheep everywhere, so quiet, rural, beautiful!!! The lodge has everything we needed and was clean and pretty and spacious and perfect for a couple. The location was easy to find by car and it was really close to lots of lakes and nature walks etc!!! Also a 10 min drive from Cockermouth (great fish and chips, coffee shops, cake, lots of supermarkets, restaurants and pubs, river walk) and a 15 min drive from Keswick (same things but very cute also and a lovely lake nature walk too). Overall it was 10/10 and we definitely will be back!!! X

    Kat2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Mandy's place was absolutely lovely. She was extremely informative and caring, excellent host helping us make the most out of our holiday. The location was quite secluded which suited us perfectly and wasn't too far from shops if we needed anything. Her local knowledge meant we had the best day having a lovely walk along the River arriving at the Lakes Distillery, which was a lovely meal and tasting experience. Definitely would go here again.

    James2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Cedar Wood Lodge and you will too! The photos don’t do justice to the amazing views. It was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed and everything you need for a great stay. Keep an eye out for the sheep, hares, rabbits and pheasants in the fields. The lodge feels in the middle of nowhere which is great for relaxing, but it’s only a short drive to local towns for eating, drinking and shopping. Mandy is a lovely host.

    Warren2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful space to spend a luxury stay in this beautiful part of our great country. Waking up to the spectacular views of the Cumbrian Mountains and Lakes is something you wont forget. We were even treated to wild Hares chasing each other about in front of the cabin. This is a great base, from which to explore the lakes and hills, or for walking trips. There are a number of eateries within a 20 minute drive if required.

    Rob2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough stars to rate Mandy, her family and the lodge. Absolute perfection. Thank you so much, we will be back! Xxx

    Karen2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best stays if you are looking to get out of the city and surround yourself with beautiful fields and mountains. The lodge itself was very modern and cosy. Would recommend this stay to anyone and everyone!

    Daniyal2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Although we approached the host Mandy with a last minute enquiry we were able to stay in this amazing place. The check-in went super quick and uncomplicated as well as the Check-out. The lodge itself is located a bit outside of Couckermouth with a beautiful view on the Lake District. Inside it is lovingly equipped with everything you would ever need and more. And especially the small caring details placed by the host made us feel like home from the first second on. So altogether the place is perfect to spend a great time in the nature and to recover from the day-to-day life.

    Silas2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at this lodge, and although two years later the lodge still looks and feels as new as it did in 2018. The lodge is in the perfect location between Cockermouth and Keswick yet is rural enough to be in the middle of nowhere. It's absolutely fantastic with the ever-changing views across the mountain range, regardless of the weather, the view from the sofa is stunning. We ended our perfect stay this time lying in bed listening to the howling wind and raging rain pounding the outside of this perfectly warm and cosey lodge. Mandy is the perfect host who is always at the end of the phone if required and offers great advice and communication. Again, I would love to keep this place a secret but it would be unfair not to share it. Mandy gets a lot of bookings for this lodge but because of its cleanliness and decor, you will always think you are the first. Five stars all round.

They were especially thoughtful given the coronavirus outbreak - explaining the extra cleaning of the apartment they were carrying out between visits. The apartment is lovely, with amazing views and all the facilities you would need. Location is great for accessing all walks around Buttermere and Crummock water. We could not recommend this apartment / these hosts enough!

The place has all the amenities you could ask for for your stay and that makes it all the more special. It is one of those places where you could visit and disconnect from the world (if you so wish to). Debbie and Graham are lovely hosts. They are so easy to talk to. They made the check in and check out process a breeze. Also, one of the best parts were Debbie's flapjacks. Delicious in each bite. We would definitely stay there again.

  • This place is such a gem! Couldn't believe our luck when we pulled outside the cottage. Location is STUNNING, right on the fells so you can walk out the door each day without having to drive anywhere. Cottage was sparkling clean, with little touches of luxury that made coming home after a long day out a treat. Tom and Caroline were lovely friendly hosts. We'll be recommending this place and would love to come again. Thank you!

  • I selected High Snab Farm based on the excellent reviews and fortunately it lived up to expectations. We arrived fairly late evening but instructions upon arrival were very easy. Tom popped round late evening to check we had settled in. It was lovely to walk into a fire made & ready to light after a long drive. Our immediate observation was that the cottage was immaculate - fresh and modern but also cosy. The personal touches were appreciated. The views over the valley were fantastic. The kitchen & cottage overall is well equipped - there wasn’t anything that we needed that we didn’t find. The shower is hot and powerful - much needed after a very soggy day of walking! The cottage is remote, but that is a positive for us. It felt very safe. It’s about 15/20 mins drive to Keswick. Tom & Caroline are just next door or easily contactable on the phone if needed. Thank you, we had a wonderful stay and would love to come back.

  • The holiday cottage is beautiful, stylish and very cosy. The views from the farm are incredible and there are a variety of different places to walk and explore close by. Caroline and her family are very helpful, friendly and are always there when needed. The roads are very thin and sometimes difficult to use but other than that this location is the perfect countryside getaway. Hope to return in the future :)

  • Very clean. Had everything we needed, and a reasonable price considering it’s so close to the centre of Keswick. We really like the soothing sound of the river at the back of the flat too. Great place :)

The Barn is a beautifully refurbished retreat in a quiet corner of the Lake District National Park. Built in c.1870 as part of How Farm, The Barn is a very comfortable self-contained space which sleeps two adults and two children. It has a small garden, unique open living space incorporating the kitchen and lounge, lobby, shower room and large bedroom. The Barn is in a countryside location yet gives easy access to all the North West Lakes and the lesser known but very scenic West Coast.
Finished to an extremely high standard, The Barn offers peace and tranquility with every modern convenience and is the ideal base for exploring the West Lakes throughout the changing seasons. The layout is all on one level with an open plan living area which incorporates a well equipped kitchen, large sofa and TV; a shower room; a lobby where there is a washer and dryer; and a large bedroom with a king sized bed and a double sofa bed suitable for two children. There is also a small drying area/space for outdoor gear and a lockable bike store. Though The Barn is the ideal place to recharge your batteries the beautiful market town of Cockermouth is only 3 miles drive away and Keswick is 20 minutes drive away. Both have a good variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The Barn is well placed to access Buttermere, Crummock Water and Ennerdale, to name just a few of the beautiful local attractions and the stunning West Coast. There are plenty of walking, open water swimming, running and cycling opportunities virtually outside the front door. With its high standards of accommodation and superb location, The Barn is perfect for a couple and their well behaved dog(s) to explore all the delights that the Lake District has to offer, whatever the time of year.
A very scenic rural area with amazing views across to Scotland on one side and the mountains of the Lake District on the other side.
  • Lovely Barn, good location and friendly hosts. Spacious accommodation completed to a high standard, both clean and comfortable. Photos don’t do it justice!

  • What a beautiful and peaceful setting. Hazel and Mike were fantastic hosts and they have done such a wonderful job renovating the barn. It was such a relaxing and bigger than expected space. Great location for exploring the Lake District too. Would highly recommend this stay to anyone.

  • Booked to stay at the Barn to allow us to do some hill walking. The place was very nice both inside and out. Would highly recommend.

    Katie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a 2 night stay in this lovely barn. From the pictures when booking I knew the barn was going to be lovely but when we arrived we were blown away by how stunning and spacious the barn was. The decor and attention to detail is amazing and I was a little sad we had only booked for 2 nights. I didn’t want to leave. The views are amazing. The barn had everything we needed to cook our meals in the evening it was a real home from home. It was great for our dog too as it had a little garden area to the rear and a lovely walk right outside. There is a handy tiled entrance hall that was prefect for our dog to dry off and sleep. We will be returning for sure to explore more of the Lake District.

    Sarah2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the barn! The attention to detail in the renovation was outstanding and it was probably one of the nicest and well appointed Airbnb’s we have stayed in. It was so warm and cosy with everything we needed for a fantastic stay. Hazel was very helpful especially when we had a lost key issue!! We would recommend this place to anyone - it’s truly fabulous!

    Frances2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The barn was a perfect stay for me and my boyfriend. Perfect kitchen amenities for us to cook one evening and extremely cosy living spaces. Everything was spotless and comfortable - couldn’t have asked for anything better for a relaxing weekend away. Thank you again!!

  • Sarah and Rob are warm and hospitable Hosts. Little Town Farm Guesthouse is in a super location and is a great base for walks in the Keswick area. The bedroom and bathroom were both sparkling clean and there was a super range of choices for breakfast. During Storm Dennis, Sarah and Rob took it upon themselves to prepare a supper for Guests so no one needed to venture out - greatly appreciated! I hope to stay there again and recommend this Air B n B without hesitation.

The 'Hideaway' is a fully vegan private room (at 'Birdsong') that is tucked-away at the end of the utility room. The shower & separate toilet are exclusive for guests but not en-suite as accessed via the utility room (we use the utility room between 11am-6pm only). 'Birdsong' (with stunning views) is located on the edge of town, in a relaxing location, with parking. Only 5 mins walk from the centre of Keswick (Moot Hall) and from the Theatre by the Lake by Derwent Water.
Basic Vegan breakfast (coffee, juice, toast, cereal) included. If you would like a Full Vegan English cooked then we ask for £5 pp donation to one of our preferred Vegan charities. Vegan guests or vegan curious. No meat, fish, dairy, eggs or honey to be consumed/brought onto the premises as we are a fully vegan household. Well socialised dogs are welcome to stay and will be spoilt with vegan treats, toys and our own two dogs to play with. Plus shared use of a large, fully fenced rear garden. Dogs should be accompanied by their owners at all times and not left in the room unattended. With the exception of a puppy-cage (for safety overnight) we are against caging any animal and would prefer it if guests do not cage their fur-baby during their stay. Whilst we are a fully vegan household, we do appreciate it is not easy to change a dogs diet for a stay away , therefore we accept you may need to bring non-vegan dog-food so we allow all types of dog-food provided it is not raw. All types of kibble and pre-packaged wet food are ok. Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate/cater for anyone with nut-allergies due to the high volume of cross-contamination of nuts.
Keswick is the dog walking capital of Europe! We are on a quiet road on the outskirts of Keswick Town Centre. Easy walking to shops, fells and lake. We are happy to recommend local walks, places of interest or cafe / restaurants. We can help you book tickets for shows at the Theatre, for cinema or any other attractions if it makes your stay easier.
  • A very friendly welcome and a lovely place to stay in Keswick would highly recommend this place

  • Mike and Rosie's place is the next best thing you can get after your own home. The place is awsum but Mike and Rosie are an added bliss to it.Mike 's wonderful food and Rosie's hugs makes you feel at home. The view from the hideaway is refreshing ,specially when in the morning the light falls on the mountains and trees. Also Mike prepared a wonderful pastry as a welcome treat which was lovely. The place had a zen house which I missed this time but would surely love to try next time. They also have 2 lovely dogs who are overly cute and friendly. Thanks again for making the stay so much special.

Tea and coffee making facilities available in the room. Private sitting room with TV available for guests to use and WiFi. Shared bathroom with me as the live in host. This is a private room in my home and guests should note that I live here and am on hand to help with any queries. I have a private sitting room with sofa, books and TV for guest use if required. Beautiful fell views from every room in the house. Please note I don't offer breakfast as standard but please do speak to me about your needs and if you want to use the kitchen. I want your stay to be as comfortable as possible.

Squirrel cottage is a cosy cottage full of charm and character ..perfect for two. Located in the small village of Thornthwaite at the foot of Whinlatter Forest Park it is 3 miles from the popular Lake District market town of Keswick. It has spectacular mountain views across open fields and provides a peaceful place in which to relax with walking and cycling from the door. The cottage has a log burner, underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen and a four poster bed. Dogs are very welcome.
The cottage is a self-contained annex to my own family home. It sits back from the minor road that runs through the village and has its own private entrance. Downstairs is an open plan living space with a kitchen and dining area Upstairs is the bedroom and en-suite bathroom At the front of the cottage is a small east facing patio that catches the morning sun. If you have a dog with you please note that this is not entirely dog secure.
The quiet semi-rural location here allows you to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life without being isolated. Whinlatter Forest Park stretches across the hillside above the village offering panoramic views and miles of fantastic walks and mountain bike trails all of which can be started from the door. It is a lovely 40 min walk up to the Whinlatter visitor centre where there is a terraced cafe. Thornthwaite itself has a Gallery with a tea room and Bassenthwaite lakeshore is a 20 min walk. The nearest pubs serving food (3 to choose from) are in the neighbouring village of Braithwaite (1 mile) where there is also a village shop and a cafe. Keswick (3 miles) and Derwentwater take about 5 min by car (just over 10 min by bus).

  • We stayed here for 3 nights Friday-Monday. This is such a good location, it’s so close to Keswick. The cottage has everything you could ask for, from a slower cooker, dishwasher, coffee flasks and all the utensils you could think of. The lemon cake Jane made us was absolutely delicious and was such a thoughtful touch. The cottage is so clean and cosy, with a comfy sofa and a wood burner, it was such a treat to come back to after a long day walking, the underfloor heating is awesome too. Jane is so friendly and super helpful with any questions we had. I wish we booked longer. I highly recommend this place and would love to come back!

  • Squirrel cottage is superb! We loved every moment, Jane had thought of everything! Lovely and clean, gorgeous log burner and the lemon drizzle cake was an extra added bonus! We highly recommend the cottage and area! Thank you Jane :)

  • I highly recommend Jane’s place. This beautiful, cosy, and clean cottage has breathtaking views right on the doorstep. We had the most comfortable stay and had everything we could need - including a full basket of logs, plenty of biscuits for our dog, Delilah, and lots of info on the surrounding area. After each day exploring we looked forward to returning for a slice of Jane’s wonderful lemon drizzle cake, and to warm our feet (and paws!) on the heated floor! We certainly hope to return in the future.

A hidden gem in the lake district national park, on site pub, static caravan site, pod, walking, fishing, climbing, all out door pursuits.
    Sorry strictly no pets!
This is possibly the quietest hidden vally in the western lake district once you have visited the area you will return Keswisk...8 miles Buttermere...8 miles Borrowdale...12 miles
  • Three bedrooms and one huge living room with attached kitchen, this place would be great for a big family or a couple of families' get-away in the most beautiful part of the Lakes District. (A bit too big for just two people this time.)

  • This is great apartment in a small village in a beautiful area. It was bigger than I thought it would be yet extremely cozy and well decorated and set up. The pub downstairs is very good, with great food. The mulled cider was perfect for a December night. I very happily ate their every night. It should be noted that although it is above the pub, noise is not really an issue. You can maybe hear some voices during the evening but nothing too loud or disturbing, I was fast asleep by 9pm both nights in the super comfy bed. 😊 I’ll be very happy to book here again the next time I’m hiking in the area.

  • Lovely home in a picturesque location. Mark and Kayleigh were brilliant hosts, who made us feel at home. I would definitely recommend

  • Enjoyed our stay above the pub, well located for walking.

  • Spacious accommodation over a great pub - superb beer and food. Excellent hosts - well equipped flat with very comfy beds. Brilliant location in one of the best valleys in the Lakes. Highly recommended.

  • Stayed 2 nights at Mark's place for a friends wedding. It was in a perfect location very close to the venue. Had an excellent meal in the pub downstairs and would definitely stay here again.

  • Great place for holiday and the location is perfect for visitors willing to enjoy nature. The pub also provides excellent food which is a real bonus.

    Laurence2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is just perfect for a walking holiday in the Lake District. A short drive from all the top destinations such as Catbells and Castlerigg Stone Circle, with convenient parking on site. The pub is friendly and welcoming, with its own beer and a great food menu including veggie/vegan options. You also get use of a private back entrance. The flat is very spacious and beautiful traditional English, nice and warm and well insulated from the pub downstairs (you can hear mumbled conversations until 10pm, then it's silent). There's a full kitchen, very well equipped. The bathroom is slightly separate but private and I really appreciated a piping hot bath after a day of hill climbing. Overall, a great deal! The perfect place to really stretch out and enjoy yourself even for longer periods. DEFINITELY recommend it for families and groups.

Cosy Lakeland terraced cottage situated in the charming, picturesque village of Portinscale, about a 5 min drive from Keswick (or a 20 minute walk) and providing self catering holiday accommodation for couples or a small family. Dog friendly and a hit with ramblers and those who enjoy messing about in boats, as the cottage is situated close to the western side of Derwentwater lake and also to fantastic fells and mountains. Wonderfully located in the north of the Lake District National Park.
The cottage is well equipped for self catering purposes including a fridge freezer, microwave, gas hob with electric oven. It also has a washing machine, clothes drying rack, iron and ironing board. If you have very young children there are two travel cots, stair gates and a high chair. The space easily sleeps 4, ideally 2 adults and 2 children however it has a sofa bed too so can accommodate 3 adults plus 2 children or up to 5 adults, so long as they are aware two adults will need to sleep on bunk beds. One dog is permitted.
The cottage has the extensive facilities of a nearby market town but being situated in Portinscale, a quieter area away from the hustle and bustle. The cottage is warm and welcoming and on the doorstep of several places to eat out and have a drink. So you needn't worry about the drive back after that glass of wine! The area around Portinscale is well known for its links with Beatrix Potter. Between 1885 and 1907 the Potter family took their summer holidays at Lingholm and Fawe Park, both now private houses, on the Western shores of Derwentwater where Beatrix spent many hours making sketches of the woods, gardens and landscape which were to feature in several of her books. Portinscale has a pub, a couple of hotels with bars and restaurants, a shop ( incorporating a post office), two tearooms and two marinas, the latter having the facilities for both hire and instruction for water sports. A short walk from Portinscale takes you to the landing stage at Nichol End from where you can join the launch. You can enjoy a leisurely cruise around the lake or plan a walk combined with a boat trip. Portinscale is an ideal base for a walking holiday. Just a very few of the possibilities nearby are the Newlands Valley, the Coledale Horseshoe, the Allerdale Ramble, Causey Pike, Catbells or a gentle stroll along the shores of Derwentwater
  • Lovley little place, ideally placed, perfect for a few days away.

  • Great pub, food and room in good location well worth a visit

  • This was one of the greatest stays I’ve had using Airbnb. Everyone was so helpful and kind. It was easy to get into town or to the fells and the lake. There’s a bus station pretty much right outside the door. The pub downstairs was lovely as well and it was great being able to wander down for a drink after a long day and head right back to your room. I would definitely stay here again

  • Our second time at Rachael's place and just as wonderful as our first. We will keep coming as long as she will have us! The views are absolutely stunning. Home is brilliantly clean. The lovely Val always on hand if any help needed. Good pubs within 5min walk, one of which does really good food. Nice little cafe close too. Keswick only 10 min drive away, and bus route through Threlkeld to Keswick/Penrith if needed.

Cosy, two-bedroom cottage in the village of Braithwaite which is 2 miles from Keswick in the North of the Lake District. We have two excellent pubs within 5 minutes walk, a village shop and bus services to Keswick and Cockermouth. Surrounding the village is some of the best hillwalking you will find anywhere! The popular mountain biking trail centre at Whinlatter Forrest is less than 2 miles from the cottage.
Oakside cottage has traditional features like exposed oak beams but is up to date with a nice kitchen, bathroom and lounge so your stay will be very comfortable. There is parking for one small to medium-sized car outside the cottage. Plenty of free on-street parking is available within close walking distance.
Braithwaite is a relatively quiet village but has two good pubs and several restaurants within walking distance. The village shop is open seven days a week and stocks most essentials that you may need at the last minute.
  • Great location and very cozy cottage. Had everything you need and the host we’re very helpful. Would highly recommend. Many thanks

The Vale of Lorton is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of the Lakes, ranging from the flat farmland and Gem town of Cockermouth at one end to the rugged mountains and Buttermere at the other. The tranquil setting of The Spinney, above the River Cocker, with spectacular views over to Whinlatter, is an ideal location to explore the north western fells, lakes, towns and coast. In two acres of mature trees, gardens and river frontage, there’s an abundance of wildlife all year round.
The Spinney, a self-contained cottage style annexe of the main house, together form a 200 year old property built into the fellside above the River Cocker. The house was originally a painting house for a local artist. Through the stone pillars down the gravel drive, a private parking area for The Spinney is adjacent to the property. A few stone steps down to the south facing French doors is where you enter into the open plan living/dining space – the kitchen with its lovely window seat and the relaxing seating area with the original sandstone fireplace and wood burning stove. Up the stairs off the landing there’s a double bedroom with king-size bed and beautiful views across the valley. A split level bathroom and single bedroom complete the upstairs area. The gardens have colour across the seasons. In spring there are thousands of daffodils and bluebells to complement the rhododendrons and azaleas with other colourful blooms flowering throughout the year. During the day there’s invariably something going on in terms of gardening, renovation or general maintenance but we try to be discrete. Red squirrels, hares, and deer are regularly seen along with a plethora of garden birds, pheasants, buzzards, ducks and herons. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you can hear the birds sing, the breeze in the trees, the sheep murmuring and the river gurgling where you can fish or just sit in peaceful seclusion.
Gateway to the north western Lake District, Lorton has a village shop with excellent coffee, essentials and craft gifts. There's a pub and a thriving village hall with different activities most days. There's two all weather tennis courts and we're on a C2C route.
  • The best place we have stayed in by far. Excellent accommodation, very welcoming hosts and the most amazing location. It felt like home as soon as we put our bags down. We will definitely return.

  • We couldn't have picked a better AirBnB in the Lake District. The price and location was right, close to all amenities, close to Keswick which is a great town with so much to see, lots of outdoors shops, and places to eat, and the Lakes within easy reach. Beautiful property and surrounding countryside with some great walking routes, and Lorraine's an excellent host. The place was the cleanest I've stayed in, even the duvets were bright white. Seriously authentic and cozy nights in after trekking about and there was parking right in front of our window so I could keep an eye on the van. A perfect stay which I'd recommend to everyone!
