Places to stay in Brayton

Places to stay in Brayton
A lovingly restored, 15th century barn in the pretty village of Brayton, 1.5 miles south of Selby. Private and self-contained, the barn offers luxurious, modern accommodation with a large outside space and impressive views of the nearby medieval church. Easy access to the M1, A1, M62 and A19 with good transport links to major locations such as York (14 miles), Leeds (24 miles) and other destinations make it a relaxing and ideal base to unwind and explore the beautiful Yorkshire surroundings.
The barn is in an idyllic location hidden away down a small, quiet lane away from the road yet within walking distance of everything you need. The impressive Grade 1 listed medieval church that stands opposite dates as far back as the Norman times and has wonderful architecture. Why not enjoy a cup of Yorkshire tea or glass of wine in the garden whilst gazing at the impressive view? We have taken time to lovingly restore this listed barn, it is decorated and furnished beautifully to highlight its light and airy features, whilst also making the place feel modern and cosy. Ideal for a romantic get away for couples or for a relaxed family get away. Living Area Comfortable high-quality sofabed which will give both a place to relax and a place to sleep should you need the extra space. A large TV with Netflix and watch again channels. A blue tooth speaker and a selection of board games for your entertainment Dining area Modern dining table seating up to 4 Kitchen Modern fully fitted kitchen with electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and fridge-freezer with water function, kettle and toaster. We have all the pots, pans, plates etc that you should need. We also have the basics such as olive oil and seasonings should you wish to cook something during your stay. There's always plenty of tea, coffee and sugar. Bathroom The stand-out room in the whole barn! Huge walk-in powerful shower with feature-light shelving. Separate bath with a shelf to rest your glass of wine while soaking. Feature-lit mirror over a huge wall-hung sink. The bathroom will always be stocked with plenty of fluffy towels. Please note that access to the bathroom is via the bedroom. Bedroom Huge open-plan bedroom with high ceilings which add so much light to this already open and airy space. King sized bed with luxury bed linen. Stylish dressing table and chair. Floor to ceiling glass door and juliet balcony opening out at the end of the room with fantastic views of the church. A double wardrobe and drawers mean you won’t be fighting over space for your clothes! Outside There is room for 2 cars outside the property and you will access through your own front door. Outside the back of the barn there is a gorgeous wrap-around walled garden and private patio with outdoor seating area - this is a private space for your own use. This is a real sun-trap and we hope you get a chance to use it. Other This is a new listing as we only completed the conversion in January 2020 Free WIFI All bedding and towels are provided Please let us know if there is anything specific you will require for your stay - we will always try to accommodate wherever possible.
We will provide a detailed information brochure for you once you have made your booking with information. However, we love our area and enjoy eating out, drinking, walking and cycling so we would be happy to make any personal recommendations for the local surrounding areas. Brayton is a friendly Yorkshire village with a warm and sociable community. There are two local pubs within a short walk. The nearest grocery store is 5 minutes’ walk away. There is a wonderful farm shop with a cafe on site which sells locally sourced meats, pies, vegetables and gifts. The local butchers sell freshly made pork pies which we believe to be the best in Yorkshire! There are wonderful riverside, woodland and countryside walks and cycle routes from the door. Selby The barn is located just 1.5 miles from the historic centre of Selby. The central attraction of Selby is the 11th century Abbey, birthplace of Henry I. Selby offers numerous shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and a weekly market. Selby Town Hall is a great live venue in the area for music and comedy. The transport links from Selby town centre are fantastic and you can easily get to Leeds, York or Hull as well as many other destinations by train or bus. The Trans Pennine Trail is an exciting route for walkers and cyclists which runs entirely on surfaced paths and gentle gradients. It runs largely along disused railway paths and canal towpaths. The route from Selby to York is approximately 14 miles and is well worth the effort. York The beautiful, medieval walled city of York has an outstanding past. The quality and range of historic buildings and monuments make it one of the most interesting and important historical places in the world. It has excellent tourist attractions as well as boasting a wealth of fantastic pubs and restaurants.

Set within the friendly owner’s grounds where they also operate a family run campsite, you are surrounded by wonderful countryside. With chickens roaming free, the location is perfect for lovers of the great outdoors, with the convenience of village amenities including a pub serving food just 5 minutes down the road.

It is home to many fine restaurants, amenities and attractions, including Selby Town Hall which is regarded as one of the best live venues in the area.

  • This is the second time we have stayed with Ian & Sara. The cottages are very cosy, spotlessly clean and the hosts are very helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended.

    Steve2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed only for a couple of nights whilst visiting family in the area. It was a very pleasant and comfortable stay. The space is spacious and exactly as advertised. This is a dog friendly property with secured garden at the back and lovely woodland walks close by. Our puppy loved it! Useful to know, the postcode goes to neighbouring property so double check you going to a right farm. Ian was helpful waiting for us as were arriving quite late in the evening.

  • Lovely people and outstanding stay

    Jonathan2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ohhhhh, where do I start?!?! From the outset, everything with this stay was perfect. From the initial email enquiry, which was answered very quickly, to the text communication leading up the booking date, to the very warm greeting upon arrival, I could not have wished or asked for more. My room for the night was outstanding and the availability of facilities means that my stay was very good value for money. Everything is very clean and everywhere is completely spotless - this can really only be described as truly home from home. I was made to feel at ease immediately and within a very short space of time, I had completely unwound from my drive from Birmingham and feeling very relaxed. The hosts mean what they say when they say make yourself at home. Not only did I enjoy my visit to York, I enjoyed my stay with the hosts and honestly cannot wait for my next stay with them.

    Natika2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed with Gareth and Ebbie because I was running a race that happened to be a 7 min drive from the start line. It was my first time staying somewhere where the hosts lived alongside the guests but they were both so chilled, friendly and welcoming. I did not feel awkward in the communal areas or when I chose to go to my room. It's clear they love hosting and are well used to people coming and going. The house is so spacious no one was tripping on anyone elses toes (or paws!) They were very quick to respond via the air bnb site. As you can see from previous reviews the house is really clean and tidy. It was an extra treat for me to use the bath as I only have a shower at home and the lemon water in my room was a lovely touch. Thank you both- same time next year?! 😂

    Lizzie2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing hosts!!!! you couldn’t meet a more chilled out couple, I’ve enjoyed every moment of my several month there and couldn’t recommend them enough!

The cycle track (to York or Selby) is also close by and wonderful for a lovely walk/cycle ride too. Free parking and excellent access to surrounding areas, including York (which is 15 minutes by car or there is a fantastic and frequent bus service that takes you to the centre).
The village is easily accessed via the major road networks so getting here will be no problem. You can eat in (or we can recommend takeaways if desired), enjoy a meal in our village (there is a wonderfully authentic italian restaurant in a converted windmill called 'Burro'), or drive/take one of the very frequent buses into York. The Designer Outlet is en-route so it's a great opportunity for a stop-off where the shopping experience draws people from all over the country. York has an incredible wealth of things to see and do all year round, with the ancient walled centre offering more attractions per square mile than any other UK destination.
  • I booked The Snug as I was competing in a powerlifting competition in the local area and we needed a base to stay for the weekend. The snug was perfect! It had everything we needed, it was clean, cosy and warm! The welcome basket was a lovely touch and the flapjacks were just yum! The communication from claire was always really quick and super informative! Would definitely recommend staying at the snug if your in the local area! Couldn't have asked for anything better!

  • ‘The Snug’ was a perfect place to come back to after visiting York. We stayed for 2 nights. Upon arrival check in was made easy and accessible. It was a lovely surprise having the hamper in the kitchen. Saved us a trip down to the shops to get the milk for our cuppa :) Claire is very quick to respond to messages and an excellent host. We will keep ‘the snug’ in mind for when we next come up to York. Location was beautiful too!! THANK YOU!

    Ella2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The SNUG was incredible. When we arrived we had a card and some essential food left for us, very thoughtful touch and very appreciated. The ‘bedroom’ was of a decent space and the bed was so comfortable. Everything was clean and there was everything we needed including shampoos, towels and leaflets of the area. We will defiantly stay at the snug again. Thank you so much.

Beautiful Glamping Pod, set in the North Yorkshire countryside between York and Leeds. Just meters away from stunning woodland walks, 18 hole golf course and fishing lakes with on-site licensed bar and restaurant.
  • Me and my partner went away for a weekend in the glamping pods. These pods were clean aswell as the shower and toilet blocks. The pods are furnished with basic furnishings with tv, kettle, ready made bed, towels and small toiletries. At scalm park it is a very relaxing and quiet atmosphere, friendly and welcoming and also dog friendly. The site is lovely for dog walking and a short 5 minute walk to a large woods called bishop woods. Here is an on-site restaurant and bar, driving range, foot golf and fishing lakes. Shops are only a drive away and we had some very nice meals in Selby (star pizza, mings Chinese and lunch at the fox inn). Scalm park is also reasonable priced for the pods. all around this is a lovely place to get away for the weekend and would love to come back sometime soon

The neighborhood is very quite and safe, with many amenities i.e,with local pubs (2) both in walking distance, both provide food, a Italian restaurant, and a Indian also, small supermarket, plus post office, good walks by the river or Nature reserve.
  • Zena was very a welcoming host who was extremely helpful. The room was nice and cosy and we were provided with plenty of extra towels. There is a mini fridge which was filled with enough to make breakfast with if that is what you wanted to do. Overall, would definitely recommend especially for the price.

  • Zena is lovely and friendly and her house is ideal for resting your head if visiting York as there is a fab bus service into the late night. Spotlessly clean rooms and the comfiest bed I have ever stayed in. This has definitely made me feel better about staying in Airbnbs where there is a shared bathroom. Thanks so much

Bridge View is a stunning property on the banks of the River Ouse, in the pretty rural village of Cawood. Newly refurbished, it boasts 2 king-size bedrooms, a cosy living room with wood burning stove, a large and airy kitchen-diner and modern family bathroom. With large gardens to the front and back of the property, and a wooden summer house over looking the rolling fields and the river, Bridge View is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to escape to the Yorkshire countryside.
You will not find a more beautiful or convenient setting than that of Bridge View, Cawood. A village which boasts three excellent pubs, one with a fabulous restaurant, The Pickled Postie (also post office and village shop) serves indescribable breakfasts/brunches and the garden centre which serves delicious afternoon teas. All this within a few minutes walk from your holiday home. The Ferry, an ancient 15th century pub with beamed ceilings and a huge inglenook fireplace will always provide a warm welcome. Whether it is a summers afternoon in the beer garden overlooking the river or a winter warm by the open fire the choice of five superb cask ales will always be a most welcome one. The Castle does excellent evening meals and a super pint while the Jolly Sailor surprises constantly with a huge range of live music, quiz nights and bingo - again with a great choice of cask ales. There is a caravan park in walking distance which has fabulous entertainment at the weekends and a sports bar for those who don't want to miss a game. You will also find here Mrs B's - another fantastic food emporium - evening meals and breakfasts are highly recommended. In Ryther there is the famed Rythre Arms Steak House - and honestly, the steak simply cannot be beaten - but you will need to book early to ensure a reservation, such is it's reputation and popularity. With York just 15 minutes away, Selby market town 7 minutes away and Leeds 30 minutes away - all easily accessible, this really is a perfect location. There is a huge enclosed space for secure parking at the rear of the house - so come, park, hang your keys up and enjoy our magical village. Light the fire pit, look over the river and relax..... you've arrived in Cawood.
Brief History Cawood as formerly one of the chief places of residence for the Arch Bishop of York, who had here a magnificent castle in which several of the Bishops died. Notably Humpty Dumpty, the children's nursery rhyme referring to Cardinal Wolsey's "great fall" when he was arrested by Henry VIII's men. Cawood is an ancient village documented to have been obtained from King Athelstan (which modern historians regard as the first Anglo Saxon King of England) by Archbishop Wulstan in the 10th century. Cawood, referred to as the 'Windsor of the North' lies at the south point of where the river Wharfe flows into the river Ouze. Cawood bridge is the only bridge that spans the river and was opened in 1872. Before which, the only means of crossing was by ferry boat. Dick Turpin was said to have forded the river when he escaped to York, 10 miles away. Bridge View was in fact the original public house in Cawood, then known as The Ferry Boat. There are over two centuries of stories told within these walls.
  • The accommodations were exceptional. The hosts were helpful and generous. Being from the states, it was important for us to have a home feel and a new experience and we sure did!

Teat Hill cottage is well located for an en-route stop for those travelling from the north of Great Britain to the south (or vice versa), or attending events in the York/Selby area. We offer a double bedroom with the sole use of a bathroom in our home which is located the small Yorkshire village of Osgodby. We provide a continental breakfast (gluten free on request) with lashings of good coffee and leaf teas. The village is quiet and has a real ale pub within walking distance.
We are happy for guests to use our small library and will happily provide access to our internet connection.
  • Mrs. KIM and her husband, Charles, are really warm and friendly. Mrs. KIM is very talkative and very enthusiastic about talking about the customs of the countries and the customs of the British life. Because their daughter-in-law is Japanese, they are full of recognition of the oriental culture. Mrs. KIM is also very funny. Although our English is not good, we chatted for a long time and enjoyed a rich dinner and breakfast from the landlord and felt the elegance and gentleman of the British. The room was clean and full of details, and even we gave us a room for two. It also recommended the route and attractions of the trip. In short, this night is very enjoyable.

    2019-10-13T00:00:00Z

Even upon our late arrival, they greeted us with tea and hospitality! We felt as though we found fast friends! Such lovely people! (Also, the mattress was the most comfortable mattress we stayed on!)

    Sarah2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Greeted on arrival and made to feel at home and very welcome over a cup of ☕️ Such a lovely, relaxing stay with a wonderful breakfast that was an unexpected treat. Pot of tea, warm croissants and jam and fresh orange juice with a choice of fruits, absolutely lovely. The cottage is beautiful in a picturesque, quiet village very close to York where we had a superb day. Our bathroom had a roll top bath, robes, slippers and lots of fluffy towels and gorgeous Victorian style. We felt so welcome and a real home from home. We are hoping to stay again soon.

    Mark2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect AirBnB experience! Kim and Richard were gracious and welcoming hosts (even though I requested to stay with them very last-minute), and their home is beautiful and cozy. They told me all about the history of the region and even invited friends out so we could share an evening at the local pub. Engaging conversation, a clean and comfortable room and beautiful breakfast spread -- exactly what AirBnB should be.

    Carolyn2018-03-07T00:00:00Z

It's in a great location close to York and when we arrived the fire was started for us and heating the place. Peggy and her husband are friendly and we felt very at home! Would definitely recommend staying here!

  • A cosy and well kitted out little place, peaceful yet a couple of minutes from the main road and within walking distance of the village of Riccall, which has a couple of pubs and a shop. Peggy and Rod were impeccable hosts - I arrived to a roaring fire, and Rod was kind enough to clean and restack it each day, so when I got back from a long day of work I just had to light a match and off it went. Peggy also provided milk, orange juice, bread, eggs and marmalade for breakfast which was a thoughtful touch. And they were kind enough to do my washing up when I was out at work. Also, although they tidied up, they were thoughtful enough not to move things around, which often happens in hotels. A faultless place - I only wish I could keep it secret so it's always available when I need it! Top marks.

  • Peggy and Dan were very kind, very helpful hosts. Their cottage was exceptionally clean and cozy and had a great atmosphere. They provided a wonderful breakfast and had many useful tips for our trip around the UK. I only wish our stay would have been longer. Would definitely recommend.
