  • The “Little House” is a great place to stay at a very reasonable price. Jon is an excellent host and the house is very clean and well organized.

  • One of my favorite experiences and I stay in a lot of Airbnb homes. The hosts would have been available had I wished and gave me the the space and privacy I preferred. The house itself is absolutely clean and well equipped. The bedroom window ac was up to the task and I was comfortable. The bed is firm, which I loved, but definitely more firm than most of the places I have stayed. Excellent location for biking the Mesabi trail. Perfect set up for a single, couple, or small family. The yard is not fenced so a young child cannot play outside unless supervised. Thumbs way up for the little extras and overall quality.

Beautifully updated 1890s hand hewn log cabin.
The Log Cabin is one of four unique, historic vacation homes on our 13 acre property, and it is truly "pioneer living" in style! Sometime around 1890, a very talented Finnish builder crafted several traditional log buildings on Minnesota's Iron Range. We are fortunate to have one of these well-preserved structures at the Green Gate property, and have masterfully updated it into a unique, historic home. We believe big things can come in small packages. The Log Cabin is a comfortable and very well-equipped home in a small footprint. This hand-hewn log cabin has been beautifully updated into a modern, cozy space, perfect for couples. The 15′ x 15′ floorplan includes a kitchen, dining table, sofa and wood stove, plus a full bathroom neatly tucked below the loft staircase. Thanks to the Norwegian owner (who also happens to be an engineer), this Finnish log cabin is equipped with modern mechanicals including air conditioning, in-floor heat, and a high-efficiency tankless water heater for endless hot water. To complete your log cabin experience, there is also a gorgeous glass-fronted wood stove and always a full supply of firewood available During your stay. The well-appointed kitchen on the main floor includes a 2-burner gas cooktop, farm sink, concrete countertops, an undercounter refrigerator/freezer, coffemaker, teapot, and cookware/serving ware for 2-3 guests. A microwave and countertop convection oven are also provided in the nearby closet should you need them. The upper floor provides a peaceful rest space with a full-sized platform bed, reclaimed oak flooring, vaulted ceiling, air conditioning, DVD player, and great views of the surrounding forests. Outside, the wrap-around porch covers the south and west sides and extends to the adjacent hewn log “privy" and outdoor summer shower area nearby.
Our location is quite perfect, honestly- the property is located halfway between the city of Biwabik and the Giants Ridge Recreation Area...next to everything, yet away from it all. We currently have 3 unique vacation rentals on the 13 acre property, but each remains very private and life is quite laid back and quiet on our historic farmstead. The Mesabi Trail (paved trail for biking and hiking) is accessible just a block from our property and can be used to get to swimming beaches, Giants Ridge or Biwabik. Our property is also bordered by the Embarrass River and a chain of lakes that can be fantastic for paddling, tubing, lounging or fishing in the summer months. Restaurants, bars, gas and grocery are available in Biwabik (1.5 miles) and Giants Ridge (3 miles) has meals and entertainment as well. We are happy to recommend a variety of tours and attractions in the surrounding area as well.
  • Our stay was wonderful! We never met Shawn, but he was quick to respond via message and we knew he was close by if needed. Beautiful property and even better log cabin, it was just perfect! We would love to come back with a bigger group and stay at some of his other properties on the land. Exactly what we needed for a quick getaway!

  • My 2nd stay in the log cabin was just as fabulous as my first!

    Julia2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Just the BEST the little getaway. Excellent craftsmanship makes room for everything you’d ever need. Cozy and comfortable, the Log Cabin is also in a great location in the north country. Secluded, yet convenient to trails, skiing, golf, and restaurants. The wood burning stove and in floor heat made it the perfect place to retire after a full day of winter activities. In the summer the porch has a screened in area to take refuge from the evening bugs. Thanks for sharing your fabulous cabin Shawn!

    Julia2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • A cabin to fall in love with and so I did. Shawn is very quick to respond to any questions. Check-in very smooth, everything just awesome!

  • Amazing log cabin! We really enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was well stocked and the cabin was well decorated and very clean. The owner is very responsive and friendly. Despite the cold winter in December, it was warm and cozy inside the cabin thanks to the lovely fireplace. We highly recommend this property and look forward to staying again.

    Thao2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Shawn's log cabin is truly magical! It is one of the best airbnb cabins we have ever stayed at. Although the photos are already auspicious, the reality is even better. The cabin has everything you could possibly think of while being so cozy and cute. If you are looking for absolute relaxation this is your spot! Also Shawn is a fantastic host, responsive, super helpful and very nice. We will definitely be back!!

  • Great place! Exceeded expectations!

    Nate2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at the log cabin for a combo wedding anniversary and birthday weekend. It is one of a handful of rentals on the property, and was perfect for a couple’s getaway. It was an easy drive/bike ride into Biwabik, Aurora, and Giants Ridge. We took full advantage of the wood burning stove, powered through some books, enjoyed cooking inside and coffees on the wrap around porch, and had the pleasure of watching a little red fox pouncing around in the grass nearby. Highly recommend staying at the cabin (or any space on the property for that matter).

Our country farm house is situated on 40 acres in the middle of hay fields lined with trees. The yard has a patio with some yard chairs, and a deck with bench. The house has central air conditioning. Private and quiet neighborhood. We are about 20 minutes from Giants Ridge (ski and golf), Duluth is only an hour away, we are close enough to the North Shore for a day trip of hiking, biking, and site seeing. Twenty minutes from the Zim Bog Bird Sanctuary. Bike trails are easily accessible.
The kitchen has stove, full size fridge, microwave, coffee pot, dishwasher, and toaster as well as pots, pan, and enough table service for twelve. We have coffee, tea, coffee filters, salt, pepper, and oil, as well as plastic wrap and baggies.
  • Great place to stay! Very clean and quiet - great place to decompress.

    Paula2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. Just what it’s billed as a quaint farmhouse in a very peaceful and quiet location. Most kitchen equipment stocked as well as bath towels and amenities. We really enjoyed “grandpas farmhouse”. Thanks.

  • We spent several days at the Sax Zim Bog for some winter bird watching and photography. David's house was a perfect place to stay for visiting Sax Zim. The drive to the bog was about 25 minutes. Warm, comfortable and clean. We received some snow during our stay. The driveway and house entrance were cleared of snow by the time we arrived. David was quick to respond to some questions we had. Wonderful place.

    Jeff2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very responsive and accommodating host, even came to shovel the morning after snow came through.

    Gavriel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay if you're visiting the Sax Zim Bog, only about 20 minutes to get to the bog (via Bodas road)

    Wade2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • You really can’t beat the price and space available in the house. There is plenty of room to relax in the house and the amenities come in handy too. Plenty of space to cook in the kitchen. It is ideal for those looking to visit Sax-Zim Bog, as its only about a half hour away. I would highly recommend this house for groups in the future and will definitely be visiting again whenever I am in Minnesota. Many thanks to David for making sure everything was satisfactory throughout our stay.

    John2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tim's place is a perfect and cozy home away from home, with all of the amenities. Everything was in new condition and was a great access location to the wonderful area. Tim is a very considerate host, I highly recommend!

    Heather2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend The Guest House for couples looking for a getaway! The Guest House was remote enough to enjoy stargazing while, at the same time, perfectly located for our day trips to Tower/Soudan/Ely and to Virginia/Chisholm/Hibbing. We really appreciated the house itself, with a very comfortable bed after long days of walking and nice amenities (the coffee for the mornings was a welcome treat). We found that we were barely able to scratch the surface of things to do in the area, so we're already thinking of coming back and we're planning on staying at The Guest House when we do.

  • Tina and I stayed at Tim's place mid Sept for 4 nights. We had a wonderful time. The apt/cabin is perfect for a couple or someone solo interested in exploring Northern MN. Easy to find , right at the corner of Lake Vermillion, one can go in any direction and find activities to do. The kitchen is fully furnished, the bed is in a separate room, bathroom is in great shape. Cable TV and a couch isavailable for a rainy day. Used the grill and the deck. We felt all the comforts of home. Tim was prompt on communicating with us, personable, and real easy to work with. Has good info he's willing to share. Tina and I both would/will go back and stay again. An excellent value!

Your large private bedroom on the second floor (there are stairs) of our home has a queen bed with a new comfortable mattress. It has always had a mattress protector. There is a futon couch and TV in the attached sun room. Your private bathroom with tub/shower combo is off the central hallway next to your room. There is a Keurig coffee maker and small refrigerator in your room if you prefer alone time rather than using our kitchen and living room.
Our 5000 sq ft home, known in the old days as a "Captains House," is one of the jewels of the rich history of the Mesabi Iron Range. It was designed with entertaining and hosting in mind and built by the Oliver Mining Company in the early 1900's. We will respect your privacy to the best of our ability with your understanding that we live here; this is our home. There is a common entrance to the house as well as a stairway to the second floor hallway from which all bedrooms and the guest bathroom are accessed.
We are located in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of a golf course. Hiking, biking, snowmobile and ATV trails are nearby and easily accessible. ATVs and snowmobiles can be driven from our house to the state trails. The Mesabi Bike Trail runs through beautiful Olcott Park about a mile from our house. There are also blacktopped walking paths around Virginia's 2 lakes.
  • I stayed here for only one night and wish I had been able to spend more time in Virginia! The house is wonderful and has so much history. Peter and June Marie were great hosts, and it was awesome to hear a bit of history of the house and the iron range of Minnesota.

    Alissa2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's place is great. We had a lovely stay and they are such kind and generous hosts. They really went out of their way for us and made our trip to northern Minnesota that much better. If we are ever coming through the area again we would love to stay here.

    Kimi2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Peter and JuneMarie are wonderful hosts! Their house is attractive, cozy and welcoming. The bed was comfortable and Peter walked us through check-in by pointing out various amenities to make our stay feel like home. This will be our first place to reserve when we're visiting 'the range' since our relatives have downsized. We even recommend this place to other relatives who will visit soon.

    Ben2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's and Junemarie's house is lovely and my rooms were so warm and comfortable. I say "rooms" because there was the bedroom and a little separate sitting room with a TV and such dedicated to the room's guests. I also had sole use of the bathroom next to my room. I want to mention that the bed was one of the most comfortable mattresses I've ever slept on. I was there for only one night, because my work was tightly scheduled, but the home and their wonderful hospitality made me wish I could stay longer. I hope I get to return sometime for a longer stay. Thank you Peter and Junemarie! :)

    Barbara2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Peter and Junemarie are wonderful hosts. They had excellent communication and made our stay very enjoyable. Their home is lovely and the room was very comfortable and clean. The extra water and coffee was a welcome addition. We will be back.

    Brad2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Peter and Junemarie were amazing hosts. Not only was it great talking and communicating with them, but had a beautiful, safe, and clean house. I was very comfortable throughout my stay. Some of the many ways Peter and Junemarie went above and beyond a host’s expectations, was they offered me winter clothing as well as set the heating in my rental car to properly warm up the cabin.

    David2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely! Peter and JuneMarie are incredible hosts and they go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. The room was very cozy and even had a sun room attached where you can watch TV. Great place to stay!

    Sarah2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Peter and Junemarie's house. The house is beautiful and unique, and so comfortable. They thought of absolutely everything to make our stay as wonderful as possible. We so appreciated their hospitality, and we hope to return if we're ever in Virginia, MN again. We'd highly recommend staying with them.

  • My husband, dog, and I really enjoyed our stay at Elbow Lake Lodge. Even with the main portion of the lodge closed for the winter, the hospitality was not lacking! Dan, the caretaker, made sure we had everything we needed, and Corinne, the owner, was quick to reply to messages. The room itself had all the amenities of a cabin -- fireplace, sofa, full kitchenette, bathroom, king bed, and a glorious view of the frozen lake. Virginia and Ely are each about an hour away, and Cook is about 20 minutes from the lodge. Elbow Lake itself was very quiet except for us and a few snowmobilers. We will be back!

  • The lodge is beautiful and the room was very spacious. It was a great value. Communication via the Airbnb app was very delayed at times.

  • Good location for a secluded snowmobile trip. Space was clean and worked out perfect for our quick weekend getaway for some northern MN snowmobiling.

    Malachi2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The property is breathtaking! We came for a weekend getaway and enjoyed every second of Elbow Lake Lodge. The Host Cori and the property manager were very helpful, caring and attentive. We loved how secluded our unit felt, how peaceful the entire property was and the views were insane! Even with our stay in the middle of winter. We will definitely be back and I absolutely recommend this stay to everyone!

  • Staying at Elbow Lake Lodge was great! I came up in late fall for a quiet weekend and was not disappointed. The eagles nest room had an amazing view and I loved having an electric fireplace to keep me cozy. Lee was very communicative and helpful

After dinner we usually take a walk around the lodge and the lake, very comfortable. Lee the manager was very friendly and helpful, so pleasant to talk with him! Wish could come back again in the summer!

My place is in the woods filled with wildlife. You’ll love the location, just off the highway to be out of the way, down a short dirt road but close enough to town for all the amenities. The views are spectacular in every season. I try and have a place of quiet and solitude. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
The house sits on 40 acres of wooded land, very private and serene. Access to hiking trails, access to the state snowmobile trails, 21 miles of groomed cross country ski trails just six miles away, ATV trails that go all over the county and access to many lakes and sightseeing activities.
There is access to surrounding lakes and rivers, hiking, biking and ATV trails. State forest access right across the road and very few neighbors.
  • Nice hinge in the secluded area with land to explore. All essentials are there as well as fully equipped kitchen!

Garage apt near Lake Vermilion. 35 miles from Ely; 14 miles from Cook; 14 miles from Tower and 5 miles from Fortune Bay Casino. Nestled in the woods, but not on the lake; near three public boat launches providing access to Lake Vermilion. Local bar/restaurants close (Vermilion Club/Bayview). Private and serene, located on the second story of the home's garage. Private entrance with a deck and room for boat and snowmobile trailers. Small dogs welcomed meeting some general criteria.
  • What a beautiful place! Absolutely loved our stay at the hideaway! It was a perfect location with quick access to the snowmobile trails and a great area to park both our trailer and the truck. We even had a small issue with a sled and Mike offered up his warm garage for our repair. The apartment is perfect for a getaway with your spouse or even a couple friends. The kitchen is well furnished and the thoughtful touches at the coffee bar were amazing! Thank you both for a great stay, we look forward to coming back!

  • Our stay was absolutely PERFECT. This place is adorable, immaculately clean and amongst a private winter wonderland where deer and our chocolate labs had a blast playing in the snow. The king size bed was SO comfy - I imagine that's what it's like to sleep on a cloud. Terri and Mike are very accommodating hosts...we are going back next weekend!

  • Terri and Mike have clearly put a lot of care into their place, and it shows. Breezy Point Hideaway was immaculately clean, comfortable, spacious, and the personal touches make it feel like a home away from home. Would absolutely recommend a stay!

    Patrick2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Terri & Mike's space is set back in the woods just far enough to feel away from everything bustly in the world, but still have quality internet. The space was clean and inviting with extra thoughtful touches. I definitely recommend it for a little retreat from city life.

Secluded on our 70 acre property, there is a lot of room for fun here! Be prepared for an authentic camping experience; the kitchen stove, lights, and heating are run on propane and the only bathroom is an outhouse. There is no electricity (generator on site) and no running water. There’s a fire pit outside with a shed stocked with wood, and it’s located near an ATV trail head. Plenty of yard space for tents, games, and/or target practice! Pets are allowed!
The whole yard is mowed consistently and is entirely up to you to use! There’s about an acre of space for activities. The generator is there for you to use to charge phones, play music as loud or as quiet as you want, etc.
The cabin is about 10 minutes from the city of Chisholm. The Lucky Seven has a Subway inside and is situated right as you’re turning onto the main road towards the property.
  • Matt’s cabin in Chisholm is simply a wonderful getaway. With the early October snowfall, great to have the woodburning stock we to cozy things up a bit. This is our second hunting party stay with Matt; looking forward to our return!

  • This cabin was perfect for our circumstances. Great location, great privacy, great condition. If you're looking for a luxury, it's not for you and they do a great job of setting those expectations. However, if you're looking for something woodsy that is much more comfortable than camping - but away from the hustle and bustle of a hotel or resort - this is a great option. We would absolutely stay here again. Thanks for the hospitality and cozy cabin feel at a great price!

Renovated 1890s farmhouse on historic 13 acre property next to Giants Ridge Golf & Ski resort.
The Green Gate Farmhouse is one of three vacation homes on our private 13 acre homestead (see our other listing, The Green Gate Barn). This century-old farm house has undergone extensive renovations and is now ready for guests! Our renovations to The Green Gate Farmhouse retain much of the character of the original structure (think clawfoot bathtubs, wide plank barnwood walls), but also include modern conveniences in a cozy, energy-efficient shell. The open floor plan provides a roomy feel, and there is ample space for dining, relaxing and sleeping. Design elements such as custom lighting fixtures, slab wood tables, antique decor, and our large front and back porches make this house quite unique- many of our guests have to snap a photo or two to take home! Our property is a combination of pasture and woods, with a beautiful little river bordering it on one side. We are in the process of returning the land to a working farm, so guests may see others folks around the property working on gardening and building projects. Generally, however, it is quite peaceful and private- you likely won't want to leave our little oasis! The property is conveniently located only a mile from the cute Bavarian-themed town of Biwabik (pop. 950), and 3 miles from the Giants Ridge Golf and Ski Resort area. The Mesabi Bike Trail passes nearby for easy access, and there are also beaches within walking distance in the summer. In the colder months, snowshoeing and nordic skiing can be done right from the door, or at the Giants Ridge Resort area, a short drive away.
  • Our stay at Shawn's was fantastic! He is quick with communication, and the place has a great rustic, cozy feel. Highly recommend!

    Tom2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Shawn has created a space that is perfect for families! My family and I had a wonderful time, with kids sledding on the property, playing games found in hidden cubbies, and relaxing in front of the tv. Beds were comfy and sheets soft and clean (with super fluffy blankets to snuggle into). The house is equal parts cozy and stylish, with fun historical touches throughout. Highly recommend for the winter traveler!

  • Great cabin aesthetics and cozy place to stay!

    Tom2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to experience the great north woods of Minnesota. Easy to find and all the amenities you could want. Cozy and comfy and nice and clean.

    Sue2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Farmhouse was impeccable in its amenities, cleanliness, thoughtfulness and communications. The owner has put his heart and soul into building and maintaining his guesthouses. If you like biking, this is located on the Mesabi trail and one of the best segments of the trail IMO is to the north of the Farmhouse on to Embarrass.

    Robert2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay!

    David2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • We spent Easter weekend with family on this beautiful property for a family members 70th birthday celebration. We rented the Barnhouse and Farmhouse for two families and the space was perfect to host others for our party. The homes were beautiful and cozy and the amenities were spot on. We needed nothing but our food and clothing during our stay. Shawn was available for our needs and it was accommodating when we had some last minute changes with visitors. It was much appreciated! We will definitely be coming back!

    Neva2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at Green Gate in the barn last year, and now the farmhouse. Shawn was very helpful, guiding us to a really fun single track cross country ski tail only a short drive away. Having the EV car charger was appreciated, especially during such cold weather. Despite sub-zero temperatures, we were warm & snug in the farmhouse.

We live in northern Minnesota because of the relaxed atmosphere, natural beauty, and proximity to outdoor recreation. Being located next to Giants Ridge, the Villa provides endless year-round activities right out the door. Skiing, cycling on the Mesabi Trail, boating on Wynne Lake and the Embarrass River, golfing at Giants Ridge's top ranked courses, and just enjoying the great outdoors are our favorite activities. Plus amenities, dining, and some fantastic "tourist" attractions (MN Discovery Center, Soudan underground Mine Tours, and the international wolf and bear centers to name a few) are just a short drive from our location.
  • Just like the pictures in the inside. And outside! The pictures of the beach are literally from the back porch. The ski hill is directly across the highway. It is private but maybe not honeymoon private. Well equipped kitchen. I didn’t see an outdoor grill on the porch, we went in winter. Perfect for two people and you could have some kids crash in the living room but that would be a space and organizational challenge. We had an awesome trip. Host was super communicative and let us adjust our booking after the accepted change date because one of our kids got the lead in the school play. Would definitely stay again.

  • This villa is amazing! Clean and newly decorated, it’s really a great space! Small touches like coffee, tea and bath amenities are provided and greatly appreciated! Will definitely return! Other villas, while may be larger, not nearly as well designed, decorated or appointed! Super host too!

  • Lynne and Assad are wonderful and welcoming hosts, and our weekend at the Cozy Cabin was just what we wanted! The sauna and the amenities like kayaks and a paddle board were awesome, and the cabin was true to its name. Definitely a place we’d return to!

    Theresa2019-08-27T00:00:00Z

  • If you want to escape the rat race, this is a great getaway! Watch a beautiful sunset over Lake Vermillion on a kayak, go for a paddle boat ride, or relax in the sauna. We went up to Voyageurs NP while here, but we could have spent the whole trip explore Lake Vermillion and the surrounding area. Assad and Lynne are very welcoming and gracious hosts!

  • This sparkling cozy cabin is a great place to relax and connect with the natural lake sounds and surroundings. Airplane hangar converted into a unique home complete with two large bedrooms, 1 bath, and heated 1 stall attached garage. The "Hangar" has heated floors and a gas fireplace for cozy winter getaways. Located on Elbow Lake "The Hangar" is located minutes from Virgina and Eveleth/Gilbert. (Note: The Hangar is not lake side, however, lake access is available) -36 mn from Giants Ridge -25 mn from Hibbing -10 mn from Hwy 53. -The property is also a short drive (30 miles) from the Sax-Zim Bog
The Hangar as we like to call it was actually built as an airplane hangar back in 1985. The back door is still a 48-foot bi-fold hangar door and the horse pasture you drive by on the way in was the airstrip, with a seaplane base located down in the lagoon in front of my sister Peggy’s house. The Idea to convert part of the building to living quarters was the idea of my sister Lisa, her plan was to live in the hangar until I completed her house on the adjacent property. In 2005, she purchased the property and I began the conversion in 2006. The process was slow as I worked on it in my spare time along with my father and brother-in-law Bob. Lisa was responsible for the interior design and did all the decorating and painting. In 2009, I began construction on my sister Peggy’s house on the other adjacent property, during construction Peggy and her husband Bob became the first inhabitants of the Hangar. In 2011, construction began on Lisa’s home and she moved into the hanger. People joked with me about my turn in the hangar, and in 2013 Wendy and I sold our house, purchased the hangar from Lisa and moved in. We have enjoyed a quiet lifestyle but decided it was time for an adventure! I took a leave from my job as a high school teacher of 24 years, I also hung up my hammer as a contractor and we packed our bags and moved to Nashville TN. We enjoy coming home to MN and hope to enjoy the peacefulness that “The Hangar” provides for years to come. We also hope that you can enjoy the quietness and peacefulness as well. We welcome the chance to share our home with you and hope that you will enjoy and respect the property.
We love to eat breakfast or just have coffee at Kunnaris Farmers Market in Virginia, just a short drive away.
  • Clean, quirky, and super cute! This amazing space has great touches of thoughtfulness left by the amazing hosts. You can tell that a great deal of care was put into the space and a relaxing atmosphere is the result. Great weekend getaway in northern Minnesota!

    Lydia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful, cozy, serene escape destination! Topped off with thoughtful amenities, and very sparkly clean all around.

    John2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the Hangar! The space is so large- and yet warm and full of cozy touches. There were only two of us but this would be a great space for a family. It is easy to get to but secluded. We didn't want to leave and will probably be coming back.

    Julia2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • I love “The Hanger” and can’t wait until my next visit!!! EVERYTHING was spectacular!!! It’s truly a very special place!!!! I will be back!!! 💗

    Janice2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We 4 new retirees had a great time - though too short. We had planned a quick trip to the Sax-Zim Bog area for bird watching so only allowed 1 over night. Almost as soon as we arrived we wanted to stay another night. We enjoyed the well furnished and well laid out kitchen as we prepared a good spagetti dinner. We appreciated the fireplace and the comfey chairs and sofa as we stayed cozy even though we heard later on Th that it had been -34F in Cotton overnight (that must have been windchill?). It was also a great benefit to put our truck in the garage for ease of unloading and loading especially due to the cold weather. We'd recommend your place to others and think it has enough common space to accommodate up to 6 adults for a small family gathering if you had a hide-a-bed. We'll definitely think of your place for future visits to the area.

    Gary2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • It’s everything and more! The Hangar will be a place we can reflect on for memories of our time on the range. Great hosts, accommodations are fantastic and the peace and quiet is a rare find!

    Erik2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect Up North Getaway that you are looking for! The Hangar is ridiculously well done and cozy. This is not “a cabin up North with basic furnishings”. This is a craftsman built home in every true sense of the word that invites you in and makes you want to stay “just one more day”. From the gorgeous horses that greet you as you enter the private drive, to the heated garage, heated floors and fireplace stove this place makes you say sigh with gratitude that you found a winner on the internet. The pictures don’t do the place justice. (Shoot them again on a sunny day when you can see the colors and textures of the wood pop!) The Hangar is a labor of love that you want to tell your friends about but don’t really want too because it will be booked for eternity. ☺️ It feels very private but communication with the owners is lightening fast. With 2 separate bedrooms it’s a great getaway for couples, families or a friends weekend. The kitchen is well stocked with quality dishwater, pans and cutlery. It has everything you need to cook and host a dinner for friends. I counted seating for 13 easy. New grill works great! Patio out front for watching the lightening bugs...yes please. Good cable TV for rainy days and WiFi was strong so you can even get a bit of work done before everyone wakes up in the office area (with printer...are you kidding me?) The Hangar was spotless and even has a full size washer/dryer just in case. I would definitely stay here again and I hope you find this place as awesome as we did.

Welcome to Embarrass, "the cold spot". We hope you enjoy a quiet stay in our house in the pines.
We love the towering pine trees surrounding this house! This is a newly acquired property. We have completed several projects on the main level of house, but there are many projects inside and outside we would like to do in the near future.
This property is located 6 miles from Giants Ridge. There are snowmobile, ATV, and bike trails nearby and several area lakes. Nearby towns are: Biwabik, Virginia, Tower, Aurora, Babbitt, and Ely.
  • Very clean. Comfy beds. Close to Giants Ridge. I'll stay there again if we go up north skiing.

    Andy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean place to stay, beds and pillows are real comfortable, snack bars, oatmeal packets, tea, coffee stocked in the kitchen were a nice touch. We spent 3 nights here, drove to Ely (36 miles) each day to fish. This was a nice place to spend our evenings, relax and make our suppers. We had 5 guys along on a retirement getaway for my brother, we all had our own beds and slept well.

    Fred2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend here! The space was incredibly clean and everyone in our group mentioned how comfortable the beds were. The kitchen was stocked with complementary goodies (granola bars, water bottles, coffee and creamer) and it was a great place to call home for a few days. Definitely would go back if we get another chance!

  • Jennie's place is an amazing stay for anyone--but especially for a family. It's all one level and the bedroom are very kid friendly. Jennie provided the best homey touches that really made all of us--especially the children--at ease and at home. She had a small Christmas tree set up for us being there for a wedding 3 days after Christmas which everyone loved! The place was SUPER CLEAN!!! Jennie responded to any message immediately and was very helpful! It was an amazing stay on the Iron Range and I would recommend this location to anyone! Thanks Jennie!

    Christie2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed House In The Pines. Jennie did a great job with decorating, and the beds were very comfortable. If we’re back in the area we’ll definitely stay again!

    Titus2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • I had a lovely stay with my three kids at the House in the Pines. The home is located about 25 mins from the Soudan Mine and 35-40 mins from Ely where we spent most of our time. We enjoyed the camp fire, movies and games provided at the home. Jennie added some special touches with basic breakfast and s’mores making supplies. The home is very clean and neat on the inside with plenty of room and fully stocked kitchen. It is located a bit off the main road with lovely trees in the back, wonderful fire pit and a star filled sky at night.

    Ginnie2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Jennie’s place was perfect for our trip to the iron range area. It was nicely located a short drive from Virginia when we needed some supplies and about a half hour from Ely where we spent most of our time. The home was very clean and Jennie went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. Communication was prompt and the perfect amount.

  • Laura and Bucktail's cabin was the perfect place for our first visit to northern Minnesota. Tower is conveniently located for day trips into both the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the North Woods. We timed our trip perfectly to take advantage of peak fall colors, but after the mosquitoes had died off for the season. Laura's suggestions for things to do and places to eat were spot on. We highly recommend these hosts and this property! We will return!

  • Beautiful cabin on the lake! We love that our dog was allowed!

    Monica2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Laura & Tim were incredible hosts during our stay. We had everything you could think of, plus a few surprises not listed in the pictures/description! A personal kayak, canoe and use of of their Can-Am 4 wheeler (to get from the driveway to the cabin, its a fairly steep hill). The cabin is about 15 feet from the waters edge, and you can hear the sound of the water hitting the shore from the kitchen when the windows are open. It was a very peaceful and serene location which provided all the relaxation we could have asked for, plus more. We will definitely be returning in the future!

    Joe2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • You couldn't ask for a nicer cabin. I tried to think of something that the host missed in the cabin. The place was immaculate. And had everthing you need for a great stay.

  • Beautiful gem on Lake Vermilion!! Laura and Tim are amazing people!!

    Jamie2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • My fishing buddies and I had a great time at the cabin. Laura and her husband are terrific hosts. The cabin itself offers plenty of space, and the kitchen / dining area was very nice. The fishing was slow, but we still caught enough to grease the pan and enjoy some fresh walleye. BuckTail (Tim) was very helpful with his fishing guidance for Vermillion. The dock was also set up nicely for your boat. I would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced place on the lake.

    David2018-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Laura was a wonderful host. She was kind and friendly and helpful. We loved drinking coffee and watching the sunset from the dock.

  • Clean, nice, and quiet! We enjoyed our stay and although the accommodations are unique (Which we enjoyed), it’s comfortable and Nicole & Gus are a very nice and accommodating family.

  • Gustave and Nicole have a wonderful place. The stay was extremely relaxing and the sauna was a life saver after our scuba diving adventures. The bedrooms were clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The only thing we would change would have been to stay longer.

    Parker2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Gustave and Nicole are the most kind and welcoming people going out of their way to make you feel at best. If you are looking for a true family experience this is the place!

    Maria2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • It was a joy to experience a quiet farm life with wonderful hosts. My cousins and I loved every moment of it. The family is wonderful- Gustave and Nicole introduced to their kids and the animals on the farm as well, all of which was absolutely great! Special mention for their cat and their horses who we couldn't resist petting every time we saw them. We arrived late evening on a rainy day but we woke up to steaming hot coffee and bright morning with amazing views of fall colors farm life. We honestly didn't want to leave at all. The room where we stayed was warm and cozy and built and decorated by Gus and Nicole. We were 5 of us and they had put out an inflatable air mattress to accommodate us all. All in all, a wonderful stay with a wonderful family that just left us wishing for more. Gus and Nicole thanks for making our stay lovely.

  • Gus, Nicole and their family are wonderful! Our boys(12 and 10 years old) loved seeing the animals, enjoyed a campfire and sauna! Great hospitality and we wish we could have stayed longer!

  • The farm is out in the country at the end of the road, so you will definitely be away from other people. There are several towns within 15 miles where you can get food and fuel. You will have to use the bathroom in the main house which is right inside their front door.

Peaceful getaway at Lake Vermilion. Great place for family vacations, fishing trips, and relaxation. Cedar woodwork, kitchen stocked with the cooking items and appliances you need, Dish TV, DVD player for movies, gas fireplace, large deck, charcoal grill, and private dock. Campfire area and level shoreline by the water for hanging out or playing lawn games.
The Lake Vermilion area has hiking trails, a wolf museum, snowmobile trails, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, fishing, and boating.
The house is in a quiet area.
  • Stayed here as part of a group of 7 (family gathering over the holidays). Owners were communicative and shared info on cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the area. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, if you happen to come in the winter, the central heating, gas fireplace, and sauna will keep you warm. Just a note that the driveway opens onto a decently steep road. My partner and I (2 of the 7) probably foolishly came up in a front wheel drive SUV rental, and had some difficulty getting out. Maybe this goes without saying, but I don't recommend coming to this property in the winter without 4wd. Despite the owners plowing right before we arrived, a bit of snow the next night and the steep road made it hard for this vehicle to get out. After a bit of shoveling, sand, and salt (which were all available in the shed), we were able to pull out of the driveway in one direction, turn around, and make it out of the neighborhood. Bedrooms upstairs were nice (note that one of the beds upstairs is a bunk). Downstairs felt a bit odd at first (5 beds in a big open basement), but it does allow every person to have their own bed in the event that there are no couples. As a previous reviewer mentioned, dishes were a bit dusty/grimy and most needed washing before use.

    Morgan2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with a group of friends for a long weekend. The host was very communicative and helpful, and the cabin was cozy for a group. However the mattresses are all very low quality so beware if you have back troubles. Other than that, highly recommend!

The cabin was clean and comfortable and communication with Chris was easy and quick. The beds and pillows are among the most comfortable I've ever slept on in a rental property - much appreciated!! There was a great supply of amenities and even a welcome pack of little snacks in the kitchen. The sauna was perfect in the evenings after a day of skiing! Thank you!!

The kitchen is up to date with a dishwasher and new gas stove. Plenty of dishes, cookware, and counter space. If you are a winter fun renter you can sleep 5 people in separate beds for ice fishing or snowmobilers (men trips). Adventures begin and end here. Trails for snow mobiles and a great bay for ice fishermen. Dog sledding is also popular in the area, they will come to the cabin and take you on a ride and provide lunch.
  • I could not believe all of the extra touches put into renting out this beautiful cabin. Laura has thought of everything anyone would need during their stay from cleaning supplies to bathing supplies to kitchen supplies and the list can go on and on. The cabin was beautiful, access to snowmobile trails were incredible, and the cabin was extremely clean. I recently received a kidney transplant and need to be very cautious of my surroundings and cleanliness. However, in your place I did not have anything to worry about. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Once inside, the view out the back is beautiful!! The villa was super clean; all the furniture is really comfortable, and during our stay it was also incredibly quiet and peaceful. And did I mention the view?! The Mesabi Trail is wonderfully convenient and there's a beautiful lake for kayaking if the weather cooperates! I would very much recommend Shawn's place and wished we could have stayed longer!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Reflections cabin, it's right on the water and yet very secluded from the other cabins and main lodge! The beach is FANTASTIC, very sandy and shallow, and the cabin had all the basic necessities for a long weekend. The main lodge has a restaurant and bar, as well as board games and ping-pong if the weather isn't cooperating. Plenty of hiking trails/ATV trails around, or just hang out at the cabin, you can't go wrong!

  • Better than we could have ever asked for! Can’t wait to come back in the future!

  • What a great place! It's so peaceful and relaxing here. It's a real gem 💓. Bring your own tp and tissues. There is only salt and pepper as far as pantry items go, so bring all your own food and stay in. There is lots to do right there. The free mini golf is very fun and challenging. It's an authentic woodland course ;). The fishing at the docks is great with the kids and you can rent a bass boat for 50-100 bucks. The paddle boards, kayaks, and pedal boat are free and the kids loved it. You can hike to some great locations around the bwca. But the best part of this 1930s classic feeling resort is the BEACH. The food at the lodge is good too. The cabins don't have air, but the temps in the first week of August didn't need it. We're from Ohio and this felt strange and wonderful at the same time. Bring bug spray. All in all, it was an unforgettable and enjoyable experience for everyone wanting to get away. The soudan mine tour was AMAZING.
