A cozy 'shed' with twin beds and heating for chilly nights. Situated within the owners property, sited in the centre of the Forest of Dean a mere 100 yards from one of the best mountain biking and cycling centres in the UK. The 'bike shed' looks out over the forest and bike storage. Fantastic location for walking, biking, canoeing the River Wye and exploring this wonderful location. The private washroom is 20 yards from the 'shed' up and down some well lit steps in the owners property.
The bike shed is within the owners garden. The bike shed has twin beds, complimentary tea, coffee and water. Access to washroom is up and down some well lit steps. Access to washroom is up and down some well lit steps. There is bike storage and facilities to wash your bikes. The garden is used daily by the owners family and pets (dog, cat and two free range chickens). The property has direct access to the forest with a variety of walks. We are located almost opposite Cannop cycle centre (pedalabikeaway) and its fantastic mountain biking downhill trails- one of the best in the UK.
We live in a small quiet village with forest all around. There is direct access into the forest over a small brook. We have constantly changing views as the trees go through the year. The birds and wildlife bring a morning chorus and evening song,(often very loudly). Wild boar and deer often pass the gate. The Wye valley offers walks, canoeing, riding and peregine falcons. We also keep honey bees. The Forest of Dean has some fantastic attractions for everyone including Clearwell Caves, Hopewell colliery, Puzzlewood, Secret forest, Perrygrove, steamtrains and MaryRose pottery to name a few! Nearby is a butterfly farm and maze and River Wye boat trips.
  • Great little place to lay our heads after a hard days cycling. Will definitely be back.

Nestled in the forest, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the South facing cabin fronts a footpath that leads out into the beautiful landscape. It is situated within our garden, with its own access so you are free to come and go as you please. It lends itself to quiet activities such as writing or similar. It is very peaceful and ideal for a quiet retreat from city life and an escape into nature. The main attraction is walking and/or mountain biking.
The cabin is compact with a kitchenette for food preparation. With fridge combi oven/microwave, gas hob and cooking pots, utensils etc. A shower room with basin toilet and shower cubicle. The rest of the space is open for the sleeping area and sitting area. There is a standard double bed. Two easy chairs. There is a fold-out table for dining and two stools. An efficient wood burning stove will keep you warm in winter.
  • The cabin was more spacious than I imagined. A super kitchenette, clean bathroom, comfortable big bed and a wood burner to keep you nice and cosy. It's situated on a pathway leading straight into the forest, so convenient for walkers. Even the endless rain didn't dampen my warm peaceful stay. I stayed for two night, will be booking for a whole week in the summer.

  • A lovely place to stay! A relaxing, peaceful studio to spend time in. Very clean, spacious and welcoming. Had everything we needed for a week away - we were able to cook simple meals in the little kitchen. Fantastic views while eating breakfast. A little tricky to find but Clare's detailed instructions were spot on. Clare's communication was great and we received a lovely, friendly welcome when we arrived. A great base for exploring The Forest of Dean area; so many places nearby to visit etc. We visited during the dreadful floods of Storm Dennis but were still able to go out and about easily enough with a little extra planning and advice from Clare on local road closures.

    Andy2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Host gave clear helpful instructions for how to find the location. Lovely quiet getaway, reasonably priced.

Very clean, well equipped and spacious. Our 3 children loved having there own rooms and we were spoiled with 3 showers! It was great for the children to have a garden to play in and games supplied. • David was a great host. Accommodating, kind, helpful; he made me feel right at home. More amenities, extras, etc. than I'd ever need, but as they say (and I agree) better to have and not need, than need and not have. If I had of forgotten anything, then I'd have been covered here. I'd highly recommend a stay here.

  • The cottage was beautiful, cosy and had possibly one of the best equipped kitchens. Jenny and Jemima had put the heating on so that when we arrived in the late evening, we could cuddle up straight away with a glass of wine. There were some lovely touches with milk, eggs and biscuits there for us to use. There was a folder full of info on the cottage and excellent tips on the local area. On our second day we were able to walk straight from the cottage out towards the Wye Valley, completing a loop along Offa's Dyke to Tintern and then back along the Wye Valley Walk. Well worth it! Lovely place to stay - you'd be daft not to book!

    Kathryn2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely brilliant time at Puzzle Tree. The welcome was immediate and appreciated. The cottage was spotless, beautiful and with all the amenities you would expect plus more. Jenny and Jemima have created a warm and comfortable space to escape from it all and the added touches like milk, welcoming chocolates and the easy to use information book were greatly appreciated. This cottage is also located close to beautiful walks and places of historical importance like Tintern Abbey, definitely worth a look if not yet seen. We can highly recommend a break at Puzzle Tree Cottage. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

    Simon2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a relaxing and wonderful stay at puzzle tree cottage. It was a warm and cosy place, well stocked with lots of thoughtful touches. Lovely views and wildlife around. The hosts J and J were incredibly friendly and easy to reach if needed. We would love to visit again!

    Marie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny and Jemimas place is a beautifully appointed. It has everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay. It was spotlessly clean and had obviously been well thought through. The location is off the beaten track charming. With peace and quiet if you want it, but plenty to do if you want to explore. I would thoroughly recommend

    David2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place is spotlessly clean, everything you need in the kitchen, a bed you don't want to get out of, washing machine and easy to work heating to dry your riding clothes. Oh, did I mention I'm a mountain biker? there's Forest of Dean on the door step, Black mountains and Cwmcarn less then an hour away, Afan and BPW a bit further. There's a space to store the bikes and a hose to wash them. Not a place for you if you want to check your FB every 5 mins as there's no phone signal or wifi in the cottage (you can pick up a weak signal just outside or use Jenny's landline in an emergency. We'll be going back there later this year.

  • We had a really relaxing chilled out time at Puzzle Tree cottage. The cottage is warm and cosy, set in extensive grounds, in beautiful countryside yet near to surrounding places of interest. The hosts, Jenny and Jemima were so welcoming and helpful, even giving us a lift to the pub to save us getting a taxi! I would definitely stay here again.

Unwind, de-stress and relax in our tranquil, comfortable, self-contained, modern studio a few yards from our cottage in Hangerberry. Hazel studio is situated on the edge of the Wye Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty and the North West edge of the Royal Forest of Dean. Easy to find and a perfect location for a long weekend or a longer stay to enjoy this beautiful part of the UK. Overlooked by nothing but trees, lie in bed and watch the stars and breakfast inside or on the balcony.
Our studio is open plan with a kitchen and separate shower room. Stay in and cook or visit one of our friendly local pubs for home-cooked food or the village Fish and Chip shop which is 3 minutes walk away. The kitchen area has a full size cooker/grill and all the pots, pans and utensils you will need to cook light meals while you stay. The shower room has a pedestal sink, toilet and cabinet with extra towels, hair dryer and toiletries. The sitting area has comfortable chairs and is equipped with a small flat screen TV and radio. The heating system is separate to our cottage and at your control. We will stock the studio with breakfast ingredients including a range of organic teas, freshly ground coffee, muesli, organic porridge, milk, fruit, home-made bread, butter/dairy free spread and organic jam / marmalade. The bed is an English double (4'6") size with a brand new hypoallergenic luxury spring mattress and organic cotton bedding. There are extra pillows in the studio storage area. Please note that you need to be able to climb stairs as the studio is one flight up from the ground. There is a washing machine and dryer available downstairs for guests who have booked to stay longer than a week. We also have storage for up to 3 bikes in our shed with a facility to lock them safely to a bolted on internal fixing. We don't supply chains or padlocks. Please message me if you want extra dates that are currently blocked off in June or July 2020 as that may be possible. I am also happy to offer a discount for longer stays. Please enquire before you book so I can adjust the calendar prices.
The village of Lydbrook has a village store and Post Office, a fish and chip shop, hairdresser and a number of pubs with restaurants including an Indian restaurant. A 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk from the studio takes you to the Wye River at the bottom of the village which is a lovely place to picnic and a cut through 2 minute walk takes you to our local pub serving home-cooked food. There are lots of lovely walks straight out of the studio door that lead up the road into the Forest. We have lots of leaflets in the studio of places to visit and a guide book with walks in the area. If you want to cycle then Cannop cycle trail is only 5 minutes away with a hire centre and a great cafe serving home-cooked food. The Family Trail is rideable by all ages and abilities with a circular route and goes through the beautiful forest. Our location is ideal for walking and cycling, you can store your bikes safely with us and explore the forest, or venture out to Monmouth, Ross on Wye and further afield.
  • Hazel lodge is beautifully charming and cosy. An abundantly stocked kitchen with everything you need to get you started and more than enough breakfast choice and teas and fresh coffee. Linda is a fantastically welcoming host and has put in lots of well thought out, lovely unique touches. The towels were soft and fluffy, the homemade bread was delicious and the place itself was absolutely sparkling clean and stylish. There were lots of leaflets about what’s on, and there IS a lot to do!! The location is perfect for those wanting to bike, walk, and get out in the fresh air in some stunning scenery. If you’re reading this and you’ve read previous reviews about the noise of rain on the velux windows, i would say, you are on nature’s doorstep here (which is why we loved it) and there will be owls hooting and birds chattering so just bring some ear plugs if you’re a very light sleeper. It rained during the night on our stay, I had some earplugs in and I didn’t hear a thing. This is a fab place, we loved it and will hopefully be back at some point, it is absolutely fantastic value for money, I think you’ll be pushed to find anywhere else as cosy and charming and perfectly located. I would thoroughly recommend.

  • Linda's place is beautifully presented, absolutely spotless and lots of lovely little touches like cruelty free hand-wash and shower gel and freshly baked bread. It's very nicely decorated, even the bins are pretty and it is bigger than it looks in the photos. Would definitely recommend.

  • Cosy little place in the heart of the Forest of Dean. All appliances worked fine and there was breakfast if we wanted in the form of fresh bread, teas and muesli with milk and a small fruit selection. Bed was super comfy also! Linda was welcoming and friendly, instantly making us feel relaxed. We were given directions to various pubs and eateries and there was a file in the room that provided maps of the various walks that we could do. Due to the poor weather we have been invited back for a free night whenever which was also very much appreciated. If the weather is bad the rain can sound quite heavy on the roof so light sleepers may need ear plugs. The property is also situated next to a road in which you can hear cars passing. WiFi was also poor with only 1 bar of wifi signal but 4G worked just fine. Overall a very pleasing stay and hope to be back soon :)

  • Linda’s modernly decorated and cosy studio is absolutely beautiful and sparkling clean. It is situated in an ideal location from which to explore the Forest of Dean. Highly recommendable.

  • We had a lovely time at Linda’s studio for a weekend break. The studio is beautiful and so welcoming. Linda supplies amazing bread and all the extras which makes such a difference. Has a few good pubs within walking distance, with good food and friendly service. Ideally situated also for local walks, historic towns and the river

This welcoming and friendly 2 bedroom terrace house is on 3 levels and the quiet bedroom offers amazing views of the forest. There is a terraced garden for relaxing in. It is ideally situated to explore the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Monmouth and Ross on Wye. There are lots of tourist spots and also walks, cycling and canoeing. • Sharon is a great host. My boyfriend and I stayed one night to Sharon's place and she made us feel at home. The communication prior to check-in was fast and clear, her place is lovely and she took the time to chat and explain where to start our biking session. We really enjoyed the coffee, tea and breakfast in the morning! We highly recommend! Thank you again, Sharon!

    Andreea2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon is a super-fabulous host!! Her place is wonderfully eclectic and warm; she even left us roses since it was our honeymoon. ♡ Sharon communicates very well and everything is better than expected. We had plenty of tea and breakfast (and she offers much more - just like it's our own home!!). The area is great, and she has so many suggestions within walking distance for places to eat, drink, visit, hike/walk/run and nearby attractions (Clearwell Caves was amazing!!). Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to spend, but we'd LOVE to return and stay again!! If you want a cozy place at a reasonable rate, you must stay at Sharon's!! :)

Ruardean is a typical Forest of Dean village with a interesting history including Horlicks of the famed malted drink. It has a post office incorporating a village store, garage, farm shop/cafe (200m). The village pub 'The Malt Shovel Inn' dates back many centuries and is old fashioned in approach and friendly. Other local pubs are The Forge Hammer which is also home to its own micro brewery and also a curry restaurant and take away and The Royal Spring. The Forest is easily accessible and Puzzle Wood (Star Wars, Merlin etc) is about 15 mins away by car (Coleford). The cottage is an ideal hub for the Forest but remember Gloucester, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Monmouth or Hereford are all well within a short car trip... should the peace or all of the Forest's outside activities prove too much to bear. Our international guests often go further afield to visit Warick Castle (12th century) and Shakespeare country; Stratford upon Avon.

Granton Coach House in Goodrich is in the grounds of our house in a quiet part of the village. Accommodation for 2 people is on the first floor of the building. Many original features have been retained and it's very well equipped to make your stay comfortable. A home from home! We like to welcome guests personally so can offer advice on places to visit, places to dine. There's a wealth of info/leaflets on local walks, cycle and canoe hire etc. The Wye Valley is beautiful at all times of year.
We renovated the coach house with an aim to transform it into an attractive living space for our guests to relax in and enjoy. Several original features still are evident such as the floor and the beams. At one time the coach house had been used by a governess to a young girl living in the main house. We are lucky enough to know a lot of history of the property and have photos depicting that time and these are displayed by the dining area. There is an open plan well equipped kitchen, living, dining space and a bedroom with a super-king bed, wardrobe with hanging and shelf space. A hairdryer and a fan are also provided. The ensuite shower/WC is roomy and the vanity unit has cupboard space. There is a cosy wood-burner in the lounge and central heating throughout. The washing machine and iron and ironing board is in the utility room just off the veranda. The veranda is a perfect place to sit and listen to birdsong. Apart from the TV with Freeview, there are a few board and card games. WIFI is available for our guests to use in the property. All bed linen is fine Egyptian cotton and is provided as well as hand and bath white fluffy towels.Tea towels, dish cloths, paper towels etc are also in the kitchen.
The Wye Valley is set within an area of outstanding natural beauty. Goodrich is a lovely village conveniently situated between Ross on Wye (just off the M50) and Monmouth just off the A40 and so is ideally placed for visiting the The Forest of Dean, The Brecon Beacons, including Hay on Wye (famous for its literary festival), Abergaenny (famous for its food festival) ,The Malvern Hills (famous for RHS Flower Shows), Hereford, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cardiff and Bristol etc.
  • A lovely, well appointed place for 2 people, with en suite bath room , with large comfortable living room / kitchen area which provided ample cooking equipment and space. A small patio with BBQ is also available for when the weather is more appropriate than we had. Although Liz was away during our stay, she made sure someone was available to provide anything we needed. Ruth and I would highly recommend The Coach House, and will be looking to return in the future

Our hosts kindly left some delicious fresh eggs and fruit and they provide much interesting and useful local information. It is a quiet location but with easy access to the lovely Wye Valley. The food at the local pub, The Hostelrie, was excellent. So much to enjoy on your doorstep

    Ros2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach house is a real home from home. It’s clean, pretty and everything has been thought of. You’ll want for nothing. There’s parking right outside, access on arrival was easy, the bed was huge and super comfortable, nice shower and plenty of hot water. We were given some eggs and fresh fruit too which was lovely. Goodrich itself is very well situated for exploring the Wye Valley. Would highly recommend the Coach House.

  • A beautiful and romantic property surrounded by gorgeous countryside. We had a lovely time enjoy the peaceful grounds and wider area. The house had everything we needed including a bottle of of the estate wine! Bear in mind this is an older property which can get cold in winter so bring appropriate clothes.

    Ed2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jamie was wonderfully accommodating with quick responses and flexibility from the start, and made us feel very much at home. At late notice he found us a space on his wine tour (which was fantastic) and allowed us to check out late. Please do try the wine from their vineyards - it's deserving of the award-winning status. The location is stunning and a short drive to the Forest of Dean where we went on long walks. The accommodation is set in wonderful grounds with a lake and large tudor house. Definitely a great experience I'd recommend to anyone. Thanks Jamie!!!

    Nick2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • After such a warm welcome from Jamie we had an amazing couple of days stay. The accommodation is packed with historic charm and the surroundings are beautiful! Plenty of picturesque walks to keep to dog entertained.

    Matthew2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tranquil - historic surrounds in a great location. A real olde-world feel. The bottle of wine grown by Jamie in the vineyard was a lovely welcome gift.

    Neil2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning house and the location is beautiful. If we’d have planned better we would have gone exploring. Jamie couldn’t have been more helpful and is a fantastic host. The cottage we stayed in was lovely, lots of character and spotlessly clean. Bear in mind this is an extremely old property so there are some creaky floorboards, but for us it just added to the stay. If you can, organise a wine tour at the property with Jamie; the wines are truly delicious!!!

  • We enjoyed our stay with Nicola. The barn was perfect for two and we slept incredibly well! It was cosy and well equipped. We left some belongings behind and Nicola was incredibly quick to post them back to us which was really appreciated.

  • The Byre is a really cosy little place, which is well set up to be able to just arrive and relax. The little extras in the shape of scones and flowers were a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed getting out into the local area and had some wonderful walks. There’s still plenty we’d like to explore and plan to come back soon!

Situated in the middle of the Forest of Dean and the quiet village of Parkend, Gloucestershire, Horse Gin offers fully equipped self-catering accommodation all year round. Horse Gin is named after an old local coal shaft as the owners main house, Castlemain Mill, on the same site was previously the Parkend Deep Navigation Collieries office. With spacious gardens and dog friendly, it is an Ideal relaxing break as a base for walking, bird watching and mountain biking with direct forest access.
On the edge of the forest with plenty of walks and cycle trails. With 4 Pubs within 40 minutes walk (5, 8, 25, 40 mins) there is no need to drive to find refreshment. We often see deer and wild boar and our secure garden has a variety of visiting and nesting birds including Woodpecker, nuthatch, goldfinch, hawfinch, blue tit, great tit, coal tit, swallow, and many more. The cottage has a cycle shed and bike washing facilities available. There are 2 cycle centres nearby where new tubes etc. can be purchased.
Parkend is in the heart of the forest and a great base for exploring the Forest of Dean with walking and cycling trails direct from the cottage. A short drive to Lydbrook canoe launch site where you can park your car and canoe to Monmouth or Symonds Yat. We have a large garden area with picnic tables and other outdoor furniture for you to enjoy the special location of Castlemain Mill, watch the deer, wild boar and sheep that often walk past our gates or see the beautiful changing leaves in Autumn. This is truly a stunning location to experience all year. Parkend is a popular tourist village with two great pubs, village shop/post office with the Postage Stamp cafe, Dean Cycle Hire (including electric bikes) and café. Ride a steam train to Lydney and visit the historic docks with amazing views over the River Severn or come for the Dean Forest Railway Footplate experience or the popular family events Paw Patrol, Thomas and Peppa Pig. There is an amazing range of birdlife around Parkend including Buzzards, Goshawks and the elusive Hawfinch and Dipper with RSPB Nagshead a short walk from our cottage. Peregrine Falcons can be seen at the top of Symonds Yat and the RSPB are often there with their telescope to show you the best viewpoint. Enjoy sitting around the chimnea listening to the owls, watch the bats and even catch the swallows nesting and calling to each other. Parkend is the start of the Family Cycle trail extension and you can ride to Pedalabikeway in about 15 mins (call it a warmup!) and then experience the thrill of the Verderers or Freeminer Trails, alternatively continue of the easier Family Trail 11mile loop. There are maps, guides and local attraction information to help you get the most from your trip and we are on site to advise the best routes, parking and experiences the local area has to offer. In the cottage you will also find suggestions from previous guests on different activities, walks, food places they have tried.

  • The cottage was delightful and sparking clean. The homemade gifts on arrival were a special thought and the help and advice Elaine gave us over the weekend was invaluable. Elaine is an excellent host and even though the weather was dreadful, staying in the cottage was an excellent experience and we will be back!

  • Everything you need for the perfect getaway including lovely cakes from the host. Great accommodation very clean and tidy and in a good location for exploring the local forest and surrounding areas.

  • This is a great base if you want to explore the Forest of Dean. Great MTB and walking trails are right on the doorstep. The accommodation is well thought out and has everything you need for a short stay in this beautiful setting. The amenities were modern, ie. when you turn the heating up the boiler kicked straight in and warmed the living area up nicely. There's also a dog / bike wash area outside and the boiler room serves as a good place to dry out waterproofs etc. which was much needed after a muddy trek on the bikes. Hats off to Elaine and Tony! If you want to sit on the internet then forget it, just sit back and enjoy the lack of phone calls to your mobile!!

  • My family and I enjoyed our stay at Our Super Hosts place. Great location for Forest of Dean, with great access via cycling to the forest and pedal bike away, where we spent most of our time when out. The accommodation was well stocked with all we needed for self catering, cycling and bring with our dog. We were given a lovely start with tasty muffins, biscuits, jam and milk. The cupboard was also stocked with sauces, tea, coffee absolutely brilliant. Comfy bed and clean. Loved it and will be coming back. Thank you!!

Little Acorns is within walking distance of two pubs, the steam railway, a lovely RSPB nature reserve and numerous walks. 20 minutes away from the Wye Valley where we kayaked for the day. We would definitely book here again and recommend it to all.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need if you fancy staying in for dinner, and the bed was super comfy. The local pubs and cafe were lovely, and only a couple of minutes walk away. Thankyou Michelle, it was fabulous. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends!

Diane was also very helpful at recommending places for food. All in all a very positive stay and highly recommended

  • My stay in the cozy cottage near the forest of dean reminds me of my childhood living with my grandma. Di is welcoming and kind hearted, offering us great advice on trips as well as providing home made healthy breakfast. This room is on 1st floor, clean and tidy with a shared bathroom, and the house itself also situated in a good location. I would sure recommend this room to people who are planning a trip to wye.

    Estelle2019-11-05T00:00:00Z

New Bookings from 22 March, flexible cancellation & cottage vacant for 72 hr between guests, please send an enquiry. Instant booking & home-made cakes resume post CV! Charming 2 bedroom stone mid-terrace cottage with direct access into the woods, on the family cycle path with free use of 2 adult bikes. Perfect for couples, friends & families with a king sized bed & 2 singles.
We renovated the cottage in 2018 to create a peaceful home from home, light and bright and full of original character. The cottage is on the edge of the popular village of Parkend on a no through lane, looking out over fields and woods and passed by the family cycle track. It really is a brilliant location for walking or cycling straight out into the Forest, or whiling away an afternoon in the garden listening to the occasional 'toot' of a steam train. The cottage is reached down a wide flight of steps, whilst not steep, access may be difficult for guests with limited mobility. I love to garden and have pots of flowers outside in the sunny courtyard. A secure, lockable stone shed houses the washing machine and has plenty of space for bikes (our tandem has fitted in with ease!). The front door opens straight into the kitchen / diner, well equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven & ceramic hob, fridge with ice box and wonderful old dresser. The table comfortably seats 4 with plenty of room to cook and chat, or spread out a map and plan your days. A child's high chair is available on request. We provide a monthly local highlights poster (from wild daffodil walks, times of the Severn Bore, music and events) as well as lots of leaflets on local attractions. maps. walking guides and guide books. Look for Ediths Cottage on facebook for more information. The sitting room has original panelling, comfy sofas, a smart TV, books, maps & guides, phone and wifi as well as the most lovely old fireplace with a modern, efficient wood burner. We provide kindling, matches and your first basket of logs (we cut & season our own firewood from conservation projects). Nothing beats a good fire on a winters night! The wood burner is supplemented by modern electric wall heaters throughout. The sitting room also looks out through French windows onto the pretty cottage back garden and patio with outdoor table and chairs, perfect for the summer. Please note that there are 3 un-guarded steps down into the garden and a low shrub border separates the garden from a neighbouring shallow garden pond. Toddlers and young children must be supervised at all times in the garden. The bathroom opens off of the sitting room with a large electric shower - we do not have a bath! The stairs leading off the sitting room are relatively steep and narrow leading to a twin bedroom looking out over fields to woods and a double bedroom with a King bed and its original Victorian fireplace, looking out over the gardens. There is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space but this may need to be shared between the two rooms. All linens including quality bedding and towels are supplied. A child's travel cot is available on request (bring your own bedding). We also supply washing up liquid, dish washer & washing machine consumables, loo roll, milk and starter pack of tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. We welcome car free guests and can arrange taxis from Lydney station (4 miles away). In the Summer it is even possible (Wednesday & Sunday) to arrive by steam train which connects with through trains at Lydney! We provide 2 bikes (adults only) for your use. Brilliant for exploring the miles of car free cycle tracks and enjoying the peace of the forest. Please contact me in advance if you want to borrow the bikes for our Ts & Cs. Extra bikes including children's and mountain bikes can be hired in the village (booking advised).
Parkend is in the heart of the forest, it has a lovely welcoming holiday vibe, with two great pubs serving food (The Woodman & The Fountain) a well stocked village shop, post office and cafe, Dean Forest bike hire & cafe serves excellent coffee and has a brilliant secluded back garden overlooking the steam railway. The popular Dean Forest Railway has family friendly events (think Thomas & Peppa Pig) throughout the year. Whitemead Holiday Park is also on the edge of the village with a good restaurant, facilities and music through the season open to non-residents. All of this is within an easy walk of Ediths Cottage. What makes us really special is the miles of beautiful mature woodlands on our doorstep, a haven for wildlife, walkers and cyclists alike. We provide maps & guides to help you get the most from your trip, we are just 3 miles along the family cycle trail to Pedalabikeaway centre, the Sculpture Trail and Beechenhurst centre. Look out for free roaming sheep, deer and even wild boar, this is a great location at any time of year.
  • The perfect cottage for a weekend away with my partner and 2yr old. Spotlessly clean, charming, had everything we needed (cooked a roast and more). Comfy beds, fantastic wood burner, good telly... Ann is the best host, she has thought of everything and was genuinely welcoming. Amazing location for walking. Tried out both pubs for dinner, both good but the Fountain Inn was especially good and about 2 mins walk away! Dean Heritage Centre a short drive away was an enjoyable day out for all of us. Can't recommend staying here enough.

    Sarah2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Edith's Cottage is a little gem, conveniently situated very close to miles of off and on-road cycling and walking routes in and around the Forest of Dean. It's lovely and cosy even in the coldest weather with a friendly wood burner in the main room. The cottage is fully equipped and there is a useful outside shed for muddy boots and bikes. And two pubs within walking distance for when you don't want to cook!

    Nick2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cottage in the village but with the woods on your doorstep. Having bikes as part of the rental was hugely helpful and we loved the wood burning stove. Would highly recommend and thanks to Ann for the cookies and local tips.

    Matt2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Edith's Cottage is just lovely. As well as being lovingly decorated, it was spotlessly clean and had everything that you could wish for. The log fire made for cosy evenings but the cottage was toasty warm anyway. Ann is a great host, she was happy to meet with us on arrival to give us some "insider" local knowledge and she kept in touch during our stay to make sure we were ok (we stayed during the aftermath of Storm Dennis). I would definitely recommend the cottage to future travellers and the Forest of Dean is a fantastic place to cycle, hike and offers lots of sightseeing opportunities as well.

  • Great little house in a great location! Really clean and really comfortable bed with great quality bedding. The location near the pub is excellent and we enjoyed our meals there. • Thank you Gaynor for a lovely stay and local tips. The Snug is in a fantastic location and has all the amenities for a week long stay - unfortunately we only had time for a night. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

  • We really loved our stay at The Snug. The bed was super comfy and the rest of the place was just right for what we needed. Gaynor left some yummy cake for our arrival and gave great suggestions for eateries and walks etc. The Cross Keys Inn is just across the road and served great food. Overall a really lovely place to stay.

  • Lyn’s place is just absolutely beautiful - the space itself is decorated wonderfully and it is so cosy. We particularly loved snuggling up in front of the log burning fire. Lyn is a wonderful host and could not have been more helpful and lovely. We will definitely be back!

    Rachel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was well equipped, stylishly decorated and set in pretty gardens. It felt very private but not isolated. Ideal if staying alone or as a couple. There were lovely walks and picturesque views over hills to the distance. A peaceful, relaxing retreat with the added bonus of a cosy woodburner!

    Malcolm2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage and had such a warm welcome from Lyn, Fred and Lena! Had a great weekend despite storm Dennis raging on, will definitely head back when the weather is better and we can explore.

    Melissa2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is fantastic - 10 mins drive from Symonds Yat East and Rock where you can do lovely walking cycling trails. Probably 10 mins drive to Ross and maybe 20 to Monmouth, both of which have plenty to see, do, eat and drink. We came in February so were very thankful to have the fire to keep us warm when we got in for the day. The cottage has everything you need, and it’s so cosy! The hosts are also very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place hands down, and we’ll definitely go back.

Our place is close to countryside. The Wye Valley is a AONB where you can walk, cycle, canoe and explore the many tracks through woodland and farmland. You’ll love it because of the peace and tranquility. A private romantic hideaway where you can cuddle up in front of a roaring woodburning stove to keep away the winter blues. We are within easy reach of Monmouth with it's bijou quirky shops and eateries. The nearest pub is the Mill Race a 40minute walk but not in the dark. Takeaways deliver.
Pat and Richard would like to welcome you to their newly refurbished cider barn. It has one double bed, kitchenette, wet room and lounge with TV. Also we have a woodburning stove as well as radiators. There is a small patio and access to part of the garden. There is ample off road parking, secure bicycle storage. Eggs available from our own hens. Although we own a pet ourselves we have decided not to accept pets as guests. No smoking please. Three nights minimum stay. We are within two miles of Ross-on-Wye. There is fine dining and several pubs within easy reach. There are opportunities for walking, fishing and canoeing in this Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We look forward to meeting you. We own and drive a 1939 MG and would particularly welcome MG drivers and will offer them cash back if they arrive in an MG. In fact being old car people we especially welcome anyone in an old car. Although the wireless WiFi is adequate for email, internet surfing and shopping etc it is not strong enough to stream films. The television does incorporate a DVD player and there is a small selection of DVDs in the Barn. There is also a number of popular boxed games, Scrabble etc.
Wenslow Barn is located in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • A fabulous Airbnb- clean, welcoming, and well kitted out with lovely touches. We particularly enjoyed the log burner! The barn is well located for enjoying the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Richard and Pat were welcoming guests, and I’ recommend anyone to go and check out this stay.

    Lucy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to escape from busy city life. Cosy, clean, quiet and relaxing. We were greeted warmly by Richard and were welcomed with a few treats, which were much appreciated. We couldn’t fault this place and have never slept so well!

    Ellie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is a lovely place to stay. Pat and Richard were brilliant hosts. Would definitely recommend it.

    Stuart2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a great, cosy stay in a wonderful location. The log burner was perfect and the gifts on arrival were very welcome! Thank you Pat & Richard for being such wonderful hosts!

    Oliver2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our second visit to the barn was just as amazing as last year. Very clean place with all the amenities you need. The log burner is our favourite, so cosy on a cold winters night, with a log store where you can grab some more logs. There are many walking books in the barn, so we read through these and found a few delightful walks that were fabulous. Spending New Years here for the second time was lovely. This year we stayed in and cooked a meal and we had everything we needed to do so. I would recommend Wenslow Barn and Pat and Richard as hosts to anyone. Will be back again!

    Elizabeth2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely barn, great log burner, perfect relaxing place!

    Julie2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A real rarity of a superbly set out and designed self-contained separated space and Pat & Richard have the balance just right as attentive hosts. Great extra touches (find out for yourselves!). Great spot for a 'digital detox' too! Lovely variety of country walks from the door. Recommend Monmouth for a visit. Or just stop in the barn and read something.

    Ian2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is very clean and cosy, the log burner is great in those cold evenings and we loved the mezzanine bedroom above. Pat and Richard were very helpful and we would thoroughly recommend staying in Wenslow Barn.

This is our newly built light and airy self contained guesthouse set in the beautiful Forest of Dean. It's the perfect location for exploring all that the forest has to offer. We are on the edge of the village of Bream and you can access the forest from the lane opposite, straight down a path and you're into the woods. It's a great spot for walking and there are lots of mountain bike trails that start from our door step. We live in the cottage next door and share the off road parking.
The flat is wheel chair accessible and has a super king-size electric bed that can be split into 2 singles if needed. The sitting room, kitchen and bedroom are all open plan. We can provide a pressure washer for mountain bikes and have a lockable cellar for over night storage. The flat has many velux windows in the ceiling so natural daylight may wake you up in the mornings. There is under floor heating throughout. The flat has a small private court yard with seating area, a gas barbecue and a little pond that is set high over toddler height. We can provide a travel cot and there is a fold out futon in the sitting room so potentially Little Oak could sleep more at an additional cost. Dogs are welcome at an extra cost of £5 per dog but please do not let them on the furniture. We also have a friendly dog and a cat.
Bream has a coffee shop, 2 village shops and a pub all with in walking distance. We are a mile and a half from Whitemead Forest Park with a swimming pool, sauna, steam and jucuzzi, restaurant and bar which can be reached through the woods from Little Oak. A further 1/4 mile into the village of Parkend you'll find two of our favorite Forest pubs that serve good food. Other well know attractions in our area: 2.6 miles to the amazing Puzzle Woods famous for being used in Star Wars and the TV series of Merlin and is said to have inspired Tolkien's Middle Earth. 2.5 miles to Perry Grove Model Railway, 3.6 miles to Clearwell Caves, 5.7 miles to the beautiful Wye Valley and the river Wye. There are many places you can rent mountain bikes in the area and there are various canoeing companies that can take you down the Wye. And of course there are the acres of woodlands cared for by The Forestry Commission in which you are free to roam, build dens and enjoy fantastic walks.
  • The perfect location for a few days exploring the Forest of Dean. Jennie was consistently prompt with her responses and provided some great “local knowledge” with recommendations of places to eat. Little Oak is a wonderful little retreat that has all you could need and the wet-room style shower room was perfect for those post-muddy walks doggy wash downs! Thanks again Jennie!

  • I had a lovely break at this bijoux cottage in February. Ample room to park my camper van and dog friendly. Jennies has achieved the perfect balance between five star luxury (in the spacious wet room and bedroom) and cosy homeliness in the kitchen and sitting room area. There was a lovely feeling of space and light, with the vaulted ceiling, velux windows and minimalist furnishings. Very stylish- together with chic eco friendly toiletries and fluffy white towels and extremely comfortable beds. The friendly greeting on arrival, with a little guidance on the local area was perfect. Will definitely be returning. M, Oxford

We got lucky because it's a nice apartment, conveniently located in Bream. Communication was very good with Suzette and check in was easy with the lock box. Highly recommended as a place to stay if you're visiting the Forest of Dean area.

  • My partner and I can not recommend this place enough, from the house itself to the lovely owners. The views are spectacular whatever the weather, and you have everything you need there to enjoy a relaxing break away. Very clean, and beautifully decorated. The hosts couldn’t do enough and were very helpful and informative about the surrounding areas. We would love to come back again.

  • The Apple Loft exceeded our expectations. It was spotless and we were so impressed with both the quality of the cottage and the thoughtful touches and extras put in by Jenny and Jemima. They seem to have thought of everything, down to the last detail. The kitchen was stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, milk and an amazing welcome hamper full of treats...which was very much appreciated! We had a fantastic experience and have great memories of enjoying the stunning views through the window. We also thoroughly enjoyed meeting their pet sheep. Jenny and Jemima were fantastic hosts. Their communication throughout the booking process was brilliant. We felt extremely well looked after throughout our stay as they were on hand if we needed anything. We had a wonderful time and we honestly cannot recommend staying at Apple Loft enough. Thank you both.

  • The property is so beautiful and stylish, it is clear that great attention to detail has been applied throughout. Lovely touches throughout for extra comfort. Gorgeous views from the barn style windows and amazing amenities. The pictures show a lovely location however they really don’t do this amazing property justice. Can’t wait to book and return. 10/10

  • Thank you so much for our stay - what a wonderful property and great hosts!

    Tim2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The best Airbnb either of us have ever stayed in. Beautiful, cozy space perfect for a weekend away from the city. The hosts were really friendly and flexible re check-in and check-out and all communication was smooth. Being off the grid with no WiFi and signal was a blessing and gave us the peace of mind and the chance to switch off that we needed to make the most of such a lovely property and part of the world.

  • Jenny and Jemima's place is even more beautiful than the pics. We spent a very relaxing couple of days there. Stunning countryside with easy access to some lovely walks; great local tips for food and stuff to do; stylish and beautifully finished space (particularly loved the bath & windows). Looking forward to returning again in the summer.

    Georgia2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Apple Loft is a beautiful cosy little space perfect for a weekend to get away from everything. We arrived on our first trip away together to a warm welcome from Jenny & Jemima and then didn’t see them again until we left - we didn’t need to! The apartment had everything we needed, was sparkling clean and had lovely touches throughout. The location couldn’t be much better as you’re not far from loads of interesting places no matter which direction you go, and there are loads of guides to give you ideas as well as some handy tips in the information pack. From the start it was easy to communicate with Jenny & Jemima and we got a great feeling immediately. They certainly put a huge amount of care and attention into this apartment and we’ll be back to visit again!

If you love the outdoors, our property is based in the beautiful Forest of Dean and Wye Valley close to walks in the Forest and a wide range of outdoor activities as well as places of interest. Our cottage is partly stone with the older part of the property dates back to the 1800's and a more recent extension. The living room is warm and cosy with log burner for those cold winter nights. With 2 guest bedroom suitable for individual/ couple or couple with young child.
This is the 2nd of 2 bedrooms I have available for guests. This bedroom has twin beds and a single sofa bed. Sleeping up to 3 people My second bedroom is listed as Cosy Cottage Forest of Dean has double bed and single bed if required sleeping up to three people. So I can accommodate up to total of 6 guests in 2 bedrooms.
We are close enough for walks in the Forest, or to Coleford and have some good local pubs within walking distance.
  • Di was a very helpful and lovely host who communicated well prior to our visit & was very welcoming when we arrived. The beds were extremely comfortable & the room ideal for our needs. Homemade bread & homemade jam to accompany cereal for breakfast was lovely too. The house was super warm in the sitting room by the fire, but a bit chilly elsewhere - bring slippers & a snuggly jumper if it's a cold day (as it was for us!). All in all - a great stay - thank you!

  • Dianne was the perfect host, felt welcome from arrival to departure. Super comfy beds, great shared bathroom and of course the amazing log burner to come in from the rain to. Dianne also supplied breakfast which included home made bread and jam. I couldn’t have asked for more from a host and will be visiting again.

  • Dianne‘s place is amazing.. and she is very easy to talk to. I wish i have a chance to stay longer and maybe learn some yoga 😊. Her place was clean and the room is very cosy. It is close to the city center. I will definitely recommend her home.

  • A very friendly host in a small cosy cottage. Very comfy beds and lovely shared bathroom. Good advice in the local area. We came back in the evening to a very welcome glowing wood burner in the living room.

The Cottage is set in the backwaters of Upper Soudley, a quiet village in the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean. The village is surrounded by woodland and five minutes walk in any direction will take you into the forest. Soudley ponds, nearby, are very scenic with beautiful forest walks and an abundance of wildlife. The Dean Heritage Centre is located opposite the ponds and is well worth a visit. The rich history of The Royal Forest of Dean is recounted in various displays both indoors and outside, step back in time by visiting the Forest Miners Cottage. The Heritage Centre also has craft shop, nature trail and a cafe. A scenic drive to the Wenchford Picnic Site is a must. On the way you drive through woodland rich in beauty and colour and pass by the remains of an old Roman Road. The picnic site is set in beautiful Oak Woodlands with a stream meandering nearby. The site has barbecues and picnic tables.
  • A good homely cottage with plenty of space, the kitchen is exceptional, has everything you need for catering for yourselves. We took our bikes with us, Helen kindly let us use the garage to put them in. The location is great for many walks into the Forest from the front door.

  • We had a lovely week at The Cottage over the New Year period. There was ample space for the four of us (2 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 2). Travel cot and high chair was provided for the youngest which was very useful. Check in was easy and the cottage was clean on arrival. Nice touch of tea, milk and biscuits to welcome us. The kitchen was well equipped and modern. The rest of the house is more dated but perfectly in order and fit for purpose. A small bathroom with both bath and shower. The Cottage is in the quiet village of Soudley. 5 minutes from forest walks and local playing field / play area. Would recommend for any families or groups wanting to get away to explore the Forest of Dean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return again.

  • A lovely well equipped cottage with a fantastic kitchen, Soudley is a small quite village surrounded by forest with shops in Cinderford about a 10 minute drive away, it is a great base for exploring the Forest of Dean and their are many walks you can do from the cottage such as mallard pike lakes and Soudley ponds. Have stayed at the cottage twice and hope to book again soon.

  • Thank you Helen, we had a lovely short stay at The Cottage. We visited The Rising Sun on your recommendation which we found very friendly, with lovely views and wildlife. We also enjoyed the Forest of Dean family cycle route.
