Places to stay in Cartmel

Places to stay in Cartmel
* Corona Virus edit: We are still taking bookings. We are in a rural setting with no immediate neighbours * The Bothy at Cowmire Hall is a delightful, first-floor converted farm building, consisting of a hall, large living-room/kitchen open to the roof, a shower-room and double bedroom. There is also a gallery or sleeping-platform above the kitchen area which can be accessed via a ladder from the living room/used as a bedroom at your own risk and there is also a sofa bed in the living room.
The main living area is open plan and vaulted to the ceiling with exposed beams and trusses. A Juliette balcony opens out on to the inner farm yard giving views of Whitbarrow Scar, an impressive limestone escarpment and well worth a walk to the top, where views of the neighbouring valleys and beyond on a clear day are a must. The kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of crockery, utensils, serving and cooking dishes, pans, baking trays, making life easy if you want to enjoy home cooking during your stay. It is open plan to the main living space, meaning guests can interact whether relaxing on the sofa or rustling up a delicious meal. There is a large electric range style cooker as well as a microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The Bothy is centrally heated and also has a wood burner - perfect for a night in. Kindling and logs are provided, baskets are stocked on arrival and guests are invited to top up from the woodshed during their stay. The living area had a large TV screen with DVD player, internet is free and is Fibre to home Broadband, giving excellent connection should you need it. Fuel, bed-linen and towels are included. The Bothy sleeps up to six people, with the option of a double bed, sofa bed or two single floor beds on the mezzanine (open to the main living area). Please note that the mezzanine is accessed by a cut out wooden wall ladder. The bathroom has an electric shower, basin, toilet and large linen cupboard. There is a utility room on the ground floor (separate entrance) with use of a sink, washing-machine, tumble-drier, freezer space and space for bicycles etc. There is an outside sitting area with table and barbecue. The Bothy looks out to the south over a farm-yard to Cowmire Hall - a C16 pele tower extended in the late C17, where the owners live - its garden and the Winster Valley. To the north the view is of the farm orchard. There is not any livestock in this yard, though tractors come and go, and our hens have the run of the space during the day. Guests may park cars here. The yard is separated from the main road by a gate, and the house by a wall and gate, giving a safe space for dogs to be off the lead. We would however ask that they are exercised either along the lanes or adjoining fields.
There are 2 local pubs within walking distance of The Bothy, one being the famous Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank and also the Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. Walking takes about 15/20 minutes to these fantastic pubs, both of which allow dogs.
  • We had a great stay at this cute bothy. The pictures do not do it justice at all, it is an amazing place. Great hospitality, condiments in cupboard and everything you need.

  • A countryside gem that mustn't be missed. We had the most amazing 3 days here with our retriever. He had the time of his life seeing all the local animals, walks and sleeping by the fire. Couldn't reccomend highly enough for the most amazing quiet escape near some incredible walks!

  • We booked really last minute after cancelling our trip to Berlin. So glad we decided to go and have a long weekend hiking in Cumbria whilst staying at The Bothy. Inside was very spacious, perfect for the 2 of us but would also be great for a family. Would definitely stay again.

  • Nothing better than staying in a Bothy for a full immersion in the Lake District. Rebecca’s place has all the basics, and the atmosphere is homely and welcoming with a warm log stove and comfortable sofas in what was clearly a very old barn, converted to a good standard. The Bothy is in wonderful countryside with lots to see, do and eat nearby. Thanks for sharing!

  • Sara and Matt were lovely people. Very relaxed and down to earth and very happy to help with our experience of the local area. They allowed us to use their driveway and even offered to bring some breakfast down in the morning! The en-suite room was very tidy, cozy with nice little touches and a modern bathroom.

    James2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah and Mathew Looked after me really well. There was an issue with the accommodation prior to my stay totally outside of their control. But they kept me informed, managed to organise me alternative accommodation whilst the issue was fixed and made sure I was not inconvenienced at all. I look forward to staying with them again soon.

  • My Fiance and I had a gorgeous stay at the Woodlandsuite. Its very private and we were able to self check in and out. It was absolutely sparking clean and very cosy. The hot tub was a perfect additive and we enjoyed this very much! The location was perfect, close to nearby pubs and a short drive to windermere. We would definitely return in the future! Great value for money.

    Elizabeth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place to stay with very froendly and helpful hosts. Easy to get to and find. Private hot tub is lovely to have access to and with it normally having a gazebo over, useable in almost any weather! Very comfy bed and cozy sofa to curl up on. The only things I'd change/add is a few more/new utensils in the kitchen (e.g. tongs for cooking and sharp knives) and curtains for the 2 doors. Just to make it that bit cozier when it's dark. We will be keeping in mind for future Lake District adventures!

    Kerri2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, nice and quiet, cosy, we hardly left the place all weekend!

    Andy2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic property and fantastic hosts. The place was spotless and spacious. Kitchen had everything we needed and the hot tub was a lovely addition that allowed a very relaxing break. Debbie was quick to respond to messages and any queries we had. Loved having use of the local leisure centre facilities too. Would highly recommend!

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

    Chloe2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie is an excellent host, showed us about at check in and how to use the hot tub etc and any questions you had throughout the weekend were answered with fast and helpful responses, the house looks exactly like the photos so wasn’t disappointed, free use of the health club along the road is the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend to friends and will be staying again myself

With copious amounts of slate and wood, our camping barns are easy to move in and out of. Plenty of space for your belingings, with linen and towels provided. Bright and airy but with a woodburner including oven / hotplates.
Our neighbours are a good distance away. The nearby village of Oxen Park has a well-liked pub, The Manor, and an independent cinema, The Carthouse. A village store, chip shop, butcher and The Bakehouse bakery can be found in Greenodd.
  • Lovely barn with comfy single beds on a mezzanine level. Very clean and enough kitchen space to cook simple meals. Location is fantastic 15mins to Grizedale and magical countryside all around. Great pub one mile away.

    Hannah2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing holiday cottage. Stayed over New Year with My family. We all had an amazing time. The Manor House Pub is within walking distance for great food and drink. Will hopefully visit again!

    Will2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely brilliant, this place had everything. Such a beautiful location too. Highly recommended.

    Elissa2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing find! Beautiful sunrises. Was a bit nervous about the lack of heating-packed hot water bottles and extra blankets but these were not needed! We actually slept with the bedroom windows open as the fire made the barn so toasty.... Thoroughly recommend Grizedale Forest for bike and walking trails, the Go Ape there was also fantastic with helpful staff. Best family meal out (possibly ever?!) at The Manor in Oxen Park as recommended by Carole. Nothing too much trouble for hosts....even topped up our coolant when a warning light came on in our vehicle. We actually used our blankets for sitting on in front of the fire in the evening-something I would recommend!

    Shelley2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a number of people looking for a quiet place to lay their heads or for indoor/outdoor games. We had about 6 beds at the place which really suited our 1 night stay.

    Gerald2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really great place to stay if you're a fan of the Lake District. Wood was provided for the fire and Carole even returned a mobile phone a friend had accidently left there through the post. Great host.

    Marc2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for a great barn. Nice and clean, spacious accommodation with plenty to do. I'd say definitely take some indoor footwear like sliders / slippers as the ground floor is cold but the room itself is warm from the log burner and heater! Highly recommend

    Dave2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place was very clean, a fire was lit on our arrival and the whole place had a very cosy feel, a selection of board games are available and a local pub is a 15 min walk away. We were met on arrival by the owners who live on site. There are plenty of walks from the site

There are many wonderful walks and bike rides available right from the front door and some great gastropubs nearby - plus the 2 Michelin starred L'Enclume restaurant just a few miles away.
Free BT super-fast WiFi. Charging point for electric vehicle. Smart TV with FreeSat. 15 minutes drive from Junction 36 of M6. LGBTQ friendly. Dog friendly. We can organise fun things for a special occasion, including champagne and local handmade chocolates - please just ask.
Lake Windermere is a short walk from our front door, accessed via the National Trust's Fell Foot Park. Newly opened Active Base centre at Fell Foot offers a range of watersports. Across the lake at Lakeside is the Haverthwaite Steam Railway, the Lakes Aquarium and you can take the passenger ferry around England's largest lake with Windermere Lake Cruises.

  • Loveday was the place of dreams. We couldn't have asked for a better stay! There were so many thoughtful touches and lots of great information in the cottage for surrounding walks, meals out and things to do! We can't wait to return.

    Gina2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Loveday cottage for my parents for a weekend, and they have had the most amazing time. They have asked me to pass on their review! They said that Loveday cottage was a piece of paradise! Everything is of a very high quality and would recommend to anyone! Also Emma and Gregor very kindly left some homemade brownies, that my mum said were the best she ever had!! Thank you!

    Sinead2020-03-15T00:00:00Z

Traditional stone cottage recently renovated to a high specification with all modern conveniences. The cottage has gas central heating and underfloor heating for extra cosiness. Ample on-street parking is available. Located in the quaint Cartmel village it is ideally situated for easy access to Cartmel Racecourse, Cartmel Medieval Priory, L'Enclume Michelin Star Restaurant and the beautiful Cartmel Valley walks.
  • I don’t really want to say how nice Causeway Cottage is because then everyone will want to rent it!!! Pat was spot on with communication, flexible and helpful. The location is superb. Although right next to the pub (which has a lovely menu) we never heard any noise from there at all. There is a nice deli across the road and a Spar store just around the corner. That said, these shops didn’t make it a thoroughfare but they are really useful amenities. The village centre is just 5 mins walk away too. There is residents parking right outside the cottage and a permit is provided by Pat. Under floor heating, WiFi, a lovely gas ‘log’ burning stove and nice cosy kitchen make this little cottage perfect for two. A+++++

  • We had a great two night stay in Cartmel. Location of the cottage couldn't be better. Parking was good and there facilities in the cottage were good. We hope to come back soon.

  • Small but perfectly formed cottage... Fantastic location, close to all amenities. Fully equipped, very comfy bed. Underfloor heating an absolute luxury!

  • Small and perfectly formed. Great little pub next door.

    Robert2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very warm, cosy and in the perfect place. I ran an ultra which finished 200m away in the very early morning - and the cottage was wonderful to come back to.

    Annette2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • The Cottage itself is lovely, cosy and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect for exploring the village, shops and restaurants and the Lakes and surrounding areas.

    Karen2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable, compact, excellently positioned, delightful location, and parking problems solved by provision of an invaluable permit. Great base for foodies, and those who want to walk the southern stretches of the Lake District. And, there's a friendly pub, right next door.

    Mike2019-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cottage. The perfect location - right next to the Pig and Whistle pub and a 5 minute walk into the main village. Cartmel is beautiful! Pat the hostess is super helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend!

a lovely little apartment, for one guest, with a mini-kitchen, with hob and combination oven/microwave, fridge etc. Perfect for the solo traveller who wants to explore the beautiful southern Lake District
  • Cate was very communicative and always there when I needed something. She's also a great baker and had cute brownies and shortbread as a welcome waiting. Loved the little extra touches. She also provided me with hiking route ideas and made sure everything was ok.

    Alexandra2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect way to get away from everything and still feel at home. Little unexpected things made a big difference. Everything was perfect. Really recommend

  • Wish I could have stayed longer - such a good location for exploring the southern part of Lake District. Great value, cosy and perfect for a solo traveller. Has everything you’d need x

    Kayla2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is one small but perfectly formed part of a bigger place including a beautiful big garden that was aflame with Autumn colour this time, a very cool and beautifully done out yurt, chickens, a romantic and ethereal dive cote, and best of all, a fellow border collie for ours to play with! the Little White House is perfect for one, or one and a little one, as it has a single bed and Care added a fully dressed n comfy camp bed for my son. My bed was memory foam (I think) and I thought it was SUPER comfy. There’s helpful info to n local attractions but also how to walk to and from a couple of Local pubs :) This host is all about the details and it makes for a great stay. If u have a dog used to sitting on the bed/furniture, I recommend u bring throws to protect the beds n armchair. Cate is wonderfully dog friendly catering for them as well as the humans.

    Lucy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Accomodation is exactly as advertised: clean, warm, and extremely well equipped for a space of its size. Cate's hospitality was exemplary; I would certainly come here again and can highly recommend The Garden Room. Chris

  • Fantastic cottage with everything you could need, really cosy and clean, lovely hosts and ideally located for walking and exploring both locally and around the lakes area Lovely village of cartmel nearby with lots of pubs, resteraunts and shops to try We are a family of four and can thoroughly recommend this place and its hosts-we loved it!!!!

    Stephen2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Firstly, Carl & Mary were amazing hosts, responding to any queries we had immediately, offering excellent local suggestions and making us feel at home (we didn’t hear from them unless we needed something so we’re completely unobtrusive which is just what you want!) we turned up to some delicious chocolates and a bottle of bubbles (such a nice touch), milk, tea and coffee. The cottage was beyond what we expected, it had everything we needed and was the perfect cozy nook we needed for a few days away with friends for nye. Location wise, as long as you are happy to drive, it was perfect for us. Completely private and rural, SO much natural beauty with lots to explore and discover. Local pub was a 15 min walk away, although down dark country lanes so bring a torch if you’re having a few! F&B was simple, affordable and tasty. Nearest open corner shop was a short drive away (5 mins) but too far to walk. We will definitely be returning and couldn’t recommend it enough.

    Jacqueline2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • A nice little cottage in the countryside. Lots of lovely extra touches like Christmas decorations, Prosecco and chocolates. Not enough cooking equipment to make big meals (we were going to make a curry) but fine for pizzas and things. Good views and close to Grange. Would use again.

    Jenny2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage. Lovely suprise left for our two little boys. Fantastic location and two lovely hosts. We will definitely be back! With a better car next time though!! Thank you

    Charlotte2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay! Very clean and a great location for visiting the surrounding villages and the Lake District.

    Lauren2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sparkling clean and it has loads of character. Loved the wood burner in the lounge. Very cosy. Also central heating there too. A real gem!

    Chris2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I traveled by car all the from Brighton, we had a really warm welcome from Carl, Carl showed us around the cottage and answered any questions. He showed great hospitality by reassuring us that we could rely on him for any future questions during our stay. Carl and his family lived next door so this was comforting. The cottage was very clean and warm with sufficient space. We were greeted with the knowledge that there was already tea, coffee and milk provided which was a lovely touch after a long journey. The views around the cottage were beautiful! Overall an excellent stay, we will be recommending to friends/family and given the chance we’d definitely stay again! Thank you Carl and Mary!

  • What a wonderful place to stay in Cartmel! The flat was perfect, it was very clean and provided much needed shelter from the wind. Rachel kindly provided some thoughtful food gifts, the biscuits were very much appreciated. We would love to come back and visit again.

  • Rachel was such a lovely host and very communicative. And such a gorgeous little collection of treats when we arrived. The apartment is small but perfectly formed and in a super position on the main square. We had a super New Year in one of our favourite villages.

    Julia2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy and easy to locate studio that could not be in a better location for visitors to Cartmel / L’Enclume. Loved the log burner. Very welcome little touches too. Thanks! :)

    Jake2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Small but perfectly formed, spot on for a few days away. Absolutely AMAZING location, smack bang in the middle of the village, very easy to find and close to everything you might need (including country village shop, friendly pubs and brilliant restaurants). Rachel was really responsive, we had an issue getting in (our fault, not hers!) and she came back to us within minutes and was lovely even when we told her we’d accidentally stolen her torch! A few little goodies for when we arrived made this stay extra special. We will definitely stay here again and would highly recommend, you won’t find a nicer place!

  • The maggie puddle cottage was so stylish and cosy and perfect for a little family. Daisy (the host) left a bottle of prosecco, tea, coffee and cartmel chocolates which was a really lovely touch. It was clean, spacious and the under floor heating was a bonus in the bathroom! The location is perfect; very close to the square and there is a lovely pub round the corner. Daisy replied to all my annoying questions before the stay within a few minutes which helped me get organised, especially with a baby! We will definitely be returning. Thank you Daisy

  • Hello everyone) The cottage is well located , have plenty of space for two people and surely will be enough for a small family . You can be in the nearest shop - or pub, depend of your needs - as fast as 15 min walk. In the village Cartmel you'll find several very fine restaurants and nice local shops. The owners of cottage will provide very detailed and useful written recommendation about what you can do, where you can go and how you can organize your stay. If you looking for quiet place with options of walking or driving around the Lakes - this is a good choice.

  • We had a fantastic time staying at Drake’s Cottage, beautifully decorated and it had everything we needed. The log burner made it extra cosy! Fantastic communication before our stay and some great local recommendations. We would definitely stay here again.

    Sarah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a good find! We spent 2 nights at Drake Cottage and I would highly recommend it. What a beautiful wee place and part of the world. We were so comfy and cosy in the cottage and there was plenty of space for us . It is equipped with everything you could need and very comprehensive instruction /welcome booklet. We had dinner at The Cavendish Arms which was lovely, better quality than just pub grub but with the convivial atmosphere of a bustling pub on a Saturday night. It was terrible weather so we got taxis (no problem) which took only 5 minutes! The next day we walked into Cartmel for a look in daylight and discovered all the foodie places we’d read reviews of on this site. Came home laden with cheeses, sticky toffee puddings, homemade coleslaws . Would definitely recommend a trip here and we will definitely be back. Would love to visit L’enclume once we’ve saved up a bit!!

  • The pictures don't do this place justice - what a gorgeous home!! Everything is so clean, cosy, warm and homely, and is so well decorated. Andrea is so welcoming, hospitable and easy to communicate with - we had some great talks about life. Great provisions of towels, use of toiletries, hair dryer etc. And breakfast was such a treat! So much choice and she even bought extra supplies to cater to a vegan diet (soy milk etc) which was very much appreciated. Great location close to the village and also the wonderful walks in the fells. Wish I could've stayed longer and will definitely try to return. Thanks Andrea!

Upper Crumble a romantic retreat for two set in an idyllic rural location with beautiful views. It has its own Hot Tub in a private courtyard. Perfectly located to access The Lakes and the medieval village of Cartmel. Cosy log stove, Wifi and private car park. Or look at Crumble Cottage a very similar offer in same location.
Cosy romantic bolthole, just for two, one mile from the lovely medieval village of Cartmel, South Lakes, Cumbria. Hot Tub in private courtyard, log stove, fully fitted kitchen, large walk in shower, king size bed on mezzanine, WiFi, own car park. Ideal for couples celebrating special occasion or just a lovely treat!
Quiet rural location one mile from Cartmel. Cartmel is a medieval village with no street lights but full of history and eating places. The Priory is of immense importance and is s truly special place to visit. A two starred Michelin restaurant is a definite pull to some and there are numerous other eateries (and our own local brewery) in and around the village. Cumbria is a mecca to walkers, cyclists, horse riders and canoeists - from the front door of Upper Crumble you have a choice of routes to walk, cycle or ride. For a special occasion why not ask us to arrange a horse and carriage to pick you up and whisk you round the village complete with champagne and flowers? There is a small supermarket in the village and three miles away in Grange over Sands all the shops you will need for a holiday break.
  • We found a lovely, cosy and exceptionally clean cottage, hidden away in the rolling hills of the South Lakes. We really found a gem for our mini-moon and loved the place. We enjoyed exploring the lakes, hiking and visiting some distant hideaways while also taking time to rest after a hectic time of wedmin and family!

    Ross2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place easily commutable to the lakes. Fantastic local knowledge & hot tub followed by the log burner was a winner for us.

    Steffany2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • You'll get peacefull-ness, quiet, a great hot-tub, if you choose right you'll get starry nights, no midges, and a great little village (Cartmel) for wonderful meals

    Iain2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great 4 night stay at Upper Crumble. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and was the perfect base for exploring Cartmel and the Lake District. It was a pleasure to meet Sarah and Stewart who were really welcoming and had lots of great tips on the local area and where to eat. We loved The Punch Bowl in Crosthwaite and The Cavendish in Cartmel. We could definitely stay here again and will tell friends and family all about Crumble Cottages. P.S. we also really appreciated the treats waiting for us on arrival!

    Francesca2019-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to spend a weekend. Sarah and Stewart were so welcoming and excellent hosts. A perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Away from the main tourist spots and nearby Cartmel has some great options for dining out.

    Lucy2019-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a perfect Monday - Friday break at Upper Crumble. Wine and cake were an unexpected but much welcomed treat after our journey north! The space is well thought out with a well equipped kitchen (as long as you’re not cooking Christmas dinner!). The bathroom is well finished (with a waterfall shower!) and the skylights mean the small space doesn’t feel it. There’s a comfy sofa with a log burning stove which was welcomed although it wasn’t too cold. A comfy bed awaits upstairs on the mezzanine level with plug sockets with USB points and some LED mood lighting! We didn’t spend much time outside due to the time of year but I can imagine a glass of wine on a summers day is lovely! We did however utilise the hot tub to the max! Don’t forget your own towels if you plan on using it as you can’t use the property’s towels in the hot tub. It’s massive, in its own private area and the short (but chilly!) sprint round the back to it all adds to the adventure! Perfectly placed in the Southern Lakes for some walking, sight seeing and relaxing, Crumble cottages are located just outside the quiet village of Cartmel. Very much recommended and we hope to return!

    Laura2018-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully presented cottage with stunning views. The hot tub is an added bonus! We really enjoyed finding out about the vision and hard work that Sarah and Stewart have put into their properties. Fantastic hosts and a beautiful location. We can't wait to return!

    Amo2018-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn’t of asked for a better trip. The hosts were extremly welcoming and very helpful. The location is perfect, it’s ideal for a quiet getaway but also very close to very you need for a trip to the Lake District. The cottage is stunning!!! We highly recommend visiting and we will be back for sure.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. It’s a great location for a peaceful retreat and we really enjoyed relaxing in the evening and using the log burner. Julia was very helpful and quick to reply. If we had a couple more days We would have liked to explore the walks directly from the cottage, maybe next time :)

    Aimee2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • House is exactly as described in pictures. Really warm with set timer so don't need to worry about heating. Stove made a nice touch and extra cosy in the evening. Fully stocked kitchen gave the option of staying in to cook. 10 minute drive down to Cartmel with lots of options to eat. Taxi service available by asking local pubs if required. We went to one of the Michelin star restaurants for lunch one day. Also make sure to get the sticky toffee pudding from the village shop. Not to be missed. Hot tub and pool were as described in pictures and a great bonus. Really enjoyed them. Didn't meet our host but responded quickly to any queries we had. Cartmel and Howbarrow are a great base for visiting lakes.

The amenities made it an excellent place for self catering as well as giving easy access to good local cafes and restaurants. The host is a wonderfully welcoming person with lots of local knowledge and insight that she is happy to share and she does everything possible to make your stay a good one. We will definitely be visiting again...

  • We had a lovely stay at Vivien’s. She was such a friendly, welcoming host and took the time to give us suggestions for what to do. The views of the bay from Arnside and Hampsfell hospice are well worth the climb. The flat was comfortable with everything we needed and more. Would definitely stay again :)

    Eve2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Vivien’s place is lovely! The check-in process was simple and she was extremely welcoming. Would definitely recommend!

    Carolyn2018-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Viv was an incredible host. She helped us with everything and more - a ride from the train station to her house (it's walkable but uphill and she didn't want us to struggle), rides to the grocery store, a bottle of wine, and great company!

    Henry2018-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Vivian is such a thoughtful host, cheese and biscuits when we arrived were such a kind gesture as were all the breakfast foods. Great brochures and directions to local places of interest were very helpful indeed. The driveway up to the house is short but steep, not a problem but just something guests need to be aware of. It was a pleasure to stay at Vivian's house, thankyou.

    Angela2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely self contained apartment in a fabulous location with lovely views outside. Really helpful and welcoming host who made us feel at home straight away. The extra touch of yummy breakfast things and bread and cheese was a great bonus and was the cherry on the cake. We would definitely stay again! Thank you!

The flat is nestled on the beautiful north west coast with stunning views of the Bay. The double room is light & airy while comfort is a key element. The village has been featured on both Autumn Watch (Leighton Moss Bird Reserve) & Countryfiles. Their are 3 pleasant pubs in the village of which 2 serve amazing food. There is also a Gallery, stunning walks, a golf course & many other amenities including an Indian restaurant, co-op, post-office, butchers & library. All within 200yds of property
Silverdale is a walkers paradise. Amazing walks with stunning sea views. It is a place of outstanding natural beauty with hidden coves & rolling countryside
  • Fabulous views in a great location. Very convenient for local bird reserves. Hospitable host.

    Shirley2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Joanne is a very friendly and relaxed hostess, she will help you with anything else you might need. Take it to the train station, charger that fits into English sockets, glass of wine, what to talk about, washing clothes? No problem! We even went dancing together! The room is beautiful, sparkling clean and very tastefully decorated. The best thing is the conservatory with views over the English countryside and the sea. He is just a gem! Silverdale itself is a picturesque village with shops, post office and two pubs, you can go for a leisurely stroll when the tide is out, even on the W, there is a bird watching reserve and very rare limestone cliffs in the forest - great! I really wanted to explore the whole area, but then I found Silverdale and surroundings so beautiful that I just stayed there (a week). I found it hard to drive away, and I'd like to come back. Thanks, Jo!

  • We enjoyed our weekend. The property delivers what it says on the tin, and Julia was responsive: we would certainly consider going again.

  • Brilliant stay in a wonderful location not far from Cartmel with relatively easy access to other areas, would highly recommend!

    Matthew2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot a little outside Cartmel. The loft is a cozy space and offers beautiful views. Low slung ceilings add to the charm, and it’s surprisingly roomy. Probably not the best time of year for it, but I can imagine it’s a real paradise for bird watchers in the summer. Just up the hill from the property is a spot with cracking views across the bay and there’s a couple of nice running routes down towards Holker Hall as well. Sadly we didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub and pool, but one for next time... We survived on foot for the most part, but probably easier in a car when it’s wet and windy. On a nice day, it’s a 30 minute walk down into Cartmel Village for L’Enclume and other foodie adventures, and probably 20 minutes to the race course. We were a bit surprised to see no essentials (salt, pepper, oil) in the kitchen, but Julia was very quick to sort that out, and nothing seemed too much of a bother for her! Overall very responsive on all front. We’ll be back!

    Sahil2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Julia’s farm loft is absolutely lovely with stunning views from every window. We really enjoyed our stay at the loft and would love to return again. We had a laugh trying to find the hot tub in the darkness but managed to find it in the end and enjoy the hot tub on a cold, wet night. Check in was very simple and the loft was warm and very inviting. Had a great sleep in the bed and enjoyed waking up to the beautiful views. Thanks for having us!

    Charlotte2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely hideaway just outside of Cartmel village - sadly we visited during one of the worst storms the UK has seen in yers but we felt safe and warm tucked away at Julia's Place.

    Talisa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at this cozy attic space. We felt totally at home, and the setting was beautiful. If you walk up the hill a wee bit, you get a great view of the sun setting over the sea. The place was warm and the bed was so comfy, so we got great sleeps, too. The surrounding area is magic, but it's hard to tear yourself away from the lovely home to go exploring, especially with the pool & hot tub which we used both evenings. Would definitely recommend this place & would come back when we're next in the Lake District.

    Beth2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and had everything we needed. Checkin was super easy and the very spacious apartment was very clean and well heated throughout. We both slept extremely well, it's so quiet and the bed was excellent. After a day on the fells it was great to use the hot tub and pool to unwind. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, our hosts were very quick to respond to queries and allowed us to store our mountain bikes in a shed which was most appreciated.

    Darren2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfy and the wood burning stove a lovely feature. The hot tub was a perfect temperature and really needed after a long day. Would definitely reccomend and would stay again.

  • Nice house, great host! She told me everything about the lakes and the surroundings. I was there for a hike holiday and hiked to the hospice then to cartmel which is famous with sticky pudding and there is a super nice restaurant called l’enclume also nice pubs around that little town center which is also close to the racecourse. I hiked around Windermere with the bus hop on n hop off. It is called lake slider and the day pass is 11 gbp. Great way to see all the lakes and hike around... super local experience, really hidden n private

  • Rachel’s home is clean and modern was located nicely for my stay. Grange is a beautiful place to stay wether you’re there for work (as I was) or leisure and other attractions are near by. There was a nice little path down to the promenade near to Rachel’s house and shops and amenities are about a 10 minute walk away. Rachel was accommodating and polite and her dog jack was lovely. Thanks again Rachel I will recommend you in future .

Off street parking for at least 3 vehicles. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable base whilst visiting the South Lakes. Lynsey was a perfect host.

There is a lovely beach nearby and thanks to great recommendations from Elizabeth we dined at a fantastic pub up the road from the house. Many thanks for all the thoughtful touches. Best wishes Anna and Ken.

Rushton House is full of Lake District character. Built in the seventeenth century, it is both spacious yet cosy. It is a 20 minute drive from the M6 (J36), five minute walk from the railway station with a regular bus service and just a few miles from Cartmel, Grange, Ulverston, Kendal, Barrow and 20 minutes drive from Coniston and Windermere. Beautiful oak beams and solid stone walls make it feel like the house has been here forever and it is warm, comfortable and very practically situated.
Your bedroom is upstairs and is a large, light spacious room with the morning sun streaming through the window whenever the weather permits. There is a bathroom directly opposite for your exclusive use with bath, shower, lavatory and washbasin. Tea/coffee making facilities, breakfast and WiFi are available. You can also enjoy the garden whenever you like and if you have bicycles, we can put them in my secure garage. There is free on-street parking.
Flookburgh has been described as the 'gateway to the lakes' - we are less than an hour away from Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness and only about thirty minutes from Coniston but without the bustle and busyness of a major tourist destination. It is a working village based historically on fishing and market gardening and has few pretensions. However, we have all the local amenities you might need such as doctors, pharmacy, local shop, our amazing bakery and a couple of pubs which serve good food. From the back door of Rushton House, there are a variety of lovely walks including down to the sands as we are on part of Morecambe Bay, or a couple of miles to the neighbouring village of Cartmel with its historic priory, famous restaurant, L'Enclume and varied shops and pubs. If you walk up the hill towards Cark you will come to Holker Hall where you can visit the house, explore the grounds or have tea in their sunny courtyard. This is just a taste of the delights we have to offer...

  • Sally is the perfect host and made us feel very welcome. She gave us a lovely breakfast and the room was clean and very comfortable. Flookburgh is a great location for exploring and Sally had good advice and tips about the area. We would certainly like to return when we are in the area again and would recommend staying with Sally without hesitation.

  • Sally is a great host and we really enjoyed our conversations. Her house is located in a good location and we could park our car right in front of the house. It is an old house (+/- 400 years old) but well maintained and warm.

Crumble Cottage a cosy romantic retreat and more than just a bed for the night. The perfect place for special occasions or to just get away from it all. Stewart and Sarah carefully converted the old milking shed themselves. Walls a metre thick, large oak beams, log stove, and shutters on the tiny windows that open to reveal a beautiful view of the open countryside. This cottage is full of character and has everything you need for a very special break.
Walk into the cottage through half stable doors to find a huge sumptuous sofa with foot stool to warm your feet in front of the stove. Basket of logs and fire set ready to light. Large Smart TV and free WiFi. Fully fitted kitchen, everything you will need with bistro table and chairs. Up tiny carpeted stairs you will find more oak beams, king size bed with bedding as light as air, shuttered windows and a huge chandelier (please don't swing from this). Stunning extra large walk in rain shower, heated lighted mirror, large towel radiator and heated stone floor; a real treat to step onto. Enjoy a coffee in the morning sun on the stone bench outside your door. In the evening relax with a glass of wine on the table and chairs provided.
Cartmel is a medieval village with no street lights but full of history and eating places. The Priory is of immense importance and is a wonderful place to visit. Simon Rogan's two star Michelin restaurant L'Enclume is very special and there are numerous other restaurants and pubs in and around the village even our own village brewery and wine bar. Cartmel is a great place to access The Lake District and is extremely popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders and canoeists. From the front door of Crumble Cottage you have a choice of many routes to walk and cycle. There are many little specialist shops in the village including a convenience store and a number of small supermarkets three miles away in Grange over Sands.
  • Lovely little getaway, would stay again. Thanks for a lovely few days away!

  • We could not recommend crumble cottage enough. A true gem - a stones through from the picturque cartel - it offers everything needed for a peaceful retreat and more. Sarah and Stewart are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to ensure the best experience. We’re already missing it !

  • We had a lovely few days staying at the Maggie puddle. Cartmel is a very pretty village and a food lover’s paradise. The cottage itself was very nice and other than a few decorations and utensils and such needing some updating we couldn’t have asked for anything. Daisy was great at keeping in touch and answering any questions we had! Would definitely stay at her place again! Thanks, Jen and Anna

  • We didn't meet Siobhan, but communication was good and the space is quite stylish and very comfortable.

    David2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, cosy studio to stay in. It had everything we needed including brew making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom which was a nice touch. There wasn’t a big supermarket nearby (closest was 30 mins away) however a couple of little shops just in walking distance for the necessities. Close to Windermere and the surrounding area is lovely, would recommend a walk down to Grange’s promenade. Thank you Siobhan for a lovely stay.

    Lauren2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A modern comfortable and very clean place. An ideal base from which to explore the Southern Lakes, as well as Morecambe Bay.

    Peter2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Priory Studio, it’s a very clean , well-furnished and comfortable place! Just 30mins drive to Lake District and other towns which is absolutely acceptable.

    Isabel2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Priory Studio is delightful and much more spacious than we were expecting. Very private and a view to the bay, which is only a short walk down the road. We had everthing we needed and there were nice additional touches. The local walking guides came in useful as we did several with some spectacular views, particularly around Windemere, which is a lovely place to visit. Good local shops in Grange, which was about a 15/20 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the Studio. They also have nice cafes. We took the train to Lancaster for a day of shopping (Kents Bank station just at the bottom of the road). My partner is 6'4" and found the bed and bath comfortable. Siobhan and John were on hand if needed. A lovely stay. We would recommend it.

    Jemima2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Siobhan’s place was very quaint and cosy, the studio was very well decorated and felt homely. Everything was clean and it was in a great location

  • This is a very good house to stay in for a weekend away. It's very well furnished, clean, and the hosts have lots of useful local tips. It's a short train (4mins) to Grange-over-sands, so it's easy to get to the local sights.

There is fibre to the premises broadband in the apartment and a television. There is a small kitchen with cooker fridge, toaster, coffee maker etc. The kingsize bed can be split into two single beds if requested.
The Winster Valley is a picturesque quiet area in the South Lakes known for the famous Damson fruit. There is also access to our own damson orchard. Pool Bank is a small hamlet close to excellent award winning pubs, and only 15 minutes from Bowness on Windermere and 15 minutes from the picturesque village of Cartmel.
  • A really nice little place, comfy bed and sofa, big windows at the front so it's lovely and bright inside. Great cottage for a weekend away :)

    Ceana2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • William and Joanna’s place is furnished to a high quality with a very comfy bed and powerful shower that really add to the stay. The location is very tucked away which on the one hand makes for a very quiet and peaceful trip however does require 5-10 minute drive down a single track lane whenever you want to go anywhere. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to all I know

    Tom2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • William and Joanna were lovely hosts. Our plans got changed and we had to check in late at night and check out later than the check out time, and they were so accommodating. Highly recommended!

    Andrew2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • William & Joanna's place was idyllic to get away from the hustle and bustle, being in the heart of the countryside. We had a wonderful long weekend to use this as a base to explore locally and around the lakes. The flat is clean, cosy with everything you need, including items for breakfast. We would definitely come back to visit and if you like animals, you will see the chickens roaming by the potter's yard and the cats may say hello! William was very friendly and helpful if you need any local advice. We love the lakes and can't wait to come back soon! Kerry & Ben

    Kerry2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A really beautiful Air bnb in a picturesque location. Even though it's in a rural location it is very easy to find, with access to local pubs and plenty of walks. William was always around to help and was very friendly. I would recommend staying here.

    Imogen2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Regardless of your arrival, Will is willing to ensure that you arrive at your destination safe and sound, with clear instructions to property. It was also helpful that he had temporarily left the lights on within the property in order to identify the home if you are arriving at night as it can be difficult to find. Will also has a handful of pets from Dogs, Cat, Hens and a cockerel, so if you love animals you can play with them. His home has a handful of treats in which you can endulge yourself in, chocolate, croissants, jam, tea, coffee, eggs, juices, butter and more. Will is also happily willing to provide you with some of the best places for viewing with clear instructions of how to get there. He is highly accommodating and had offered a meal and a stay his other rooms and if we needed anything he was more than available. Overall a 5/5

  • Ann's place was immaculate & tasteful with a lot of attention to detail. There was a lovely table & chairs around the back of the cottage with beautiful views. There were many delightful touches, with everything laid out beautifully, it was more like staying in a 5 star hotel at an incredibly reasonable price. Ann helped me out in a difficult national & international time for which I am extremely appreciative. Thank you Ann.

  • An absolute gem of a place. Ann is an excellent hostess and nothing is too much trouble. The place is squeaky clean, tastefully decorated and warm even in the stormiest weather. We hope to be staying again soon

  • We loved this place at Newby Bridge. I have to say that the entire cottage really exceeded my expectations and that the photos don’t do it that much justice. The place was perfect for us - exploring the Lake District given what we had planned. The kitchen had everything we needed to self cater, and also has a microwave - plus a washing machine (which we needed as we got so muddy from outdoor hiking). There was also coffee, tea and milk provided, which was a lovely touch. Also there’s a cute living room to relax in. The bedroom was a good size and bathroom was very clean! The location was quiet, and despite the stormy weather, we barely registered it. Ann was a great host, and she communicated well! Thank you for the hospitality! :) We really appreciated it. Would highly recommend this place! There are zero cons that I can think of.

Lindale s a quiet village in the southern Lake District. It is never busy even in summer as it is away from the honeypot crowds in the central lakes. Access to all the central sites are easy but you can escape the crowds at the end of the day. The village has two pubs. The Royal Oak is at the top of the village and is the one that we wholeheartedly recommend for food. We do recommend that you book in advance as it is usually very busy. The village also has its own small shop and post office. Grange Over Sands is a lovely Edwardian town just 5 minutes drive away. This has all the essential shops that you need along with a promenade next to the sea. The bakers and butchers in Grange have won awards and it is where we always go to shop when we go to stay. You can walk from the cottage up to the top of Hamsfell. This is a limestone pavement with wonderful 360 degrees views on a good day. There is also easy access to the steam railway in Haverthwaite which links to the Lakeside for cruises up Lake Windermere. Further west you come to Grizedale where there are forest trails and "Go-Ape" the treetops climbing experience.
