Breathtaking 2 Bedroom Luxury Cornish Cottage with Panoramic Sea & Harbour Views with Hot Tub - Featured on Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces Situated on a beautiful bay in South Cornwall where seals & dolphins are regularly spotted & local fisherman bring in their daily catch. Less than 5 minutes walk to the local restaurants, bars, pubs, ice-cream shops & ancient Grade 2 listed Port showcasing exquisite tall ships and famous for the film set of Poldark & Alice In Wonderland
The beautiful village port of Charlestown has played host to many famous figures in its time, from Poldark to Alice in Wonderland...and most recently George Clarke, who featured Harbour Lights, formerly known as the ‘Loo with a View', on his hugely popular ‘Amazing Spaces' TV programme. It's not hard to see why George was so captivated by the intricate work lovingly carried out on this imaginative and elegantly restored property.  Built in 1771 as a fish and net cellar, the building was later renovated into public conveniences before we rescued it from its ramshackle state in 2015.  The building has now been fully renovated into a truly luxurious pet-friendly two-bedroomed holiday hideaway, full of natural character and marine-inspired style, featuring truly unsurpassed sea views from the cliff top.  Great care and attention has been taken with the design and furnishing of every room to ensure perfect harmony with the beautiful coastal surroundings.  Ancient reclaimed timber décor and solid oak doors add chic touches of time-honoured style, alongside the more contemporary pure white Italian marble worktops and soft grey backgrounds that perfectly complement the magnificent bay and harbour views from the windows. The ground floor encompasses a spacious open-plan living area, described by George Clarke as fabulously "light and airy", featuring a fully furnished designer kitchen that looks out across the harbour.  Fire up the stylish log burner and watch the ships as they glide languidly by! Take the stairs and discover two exquisite bedrooms, one large double featuring glorious views over the harbour and Charlestown Bay - with a luxurious Heritage bath right at the bottom of the bed.  The second, slightly smaller, bedroom features a beautiful view of the garden area. You'll also find a stunning Italian marble and stainless steel furnished en-suite, and a utility area and walk-in wardrobe featuring fitted storage, washer-dryer, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. Underfloor heating and a Sonos sound system with three independent zones runs throughout, so that wherever you happen to be, you'll be effortlessly able to set the perfect mood! Simply download the Sonos App on your smart phone and away you go! The views become even better outside, when experienced with a glass of bubbles from the lavish four-seater hot tub looking out across the sea!  There's a slate patio with wash off area that's particularly handy after a sandy day on the beach, and a beautiful garden with decked terraces and colourfully lush flowers and plants that have been carefully selected to make the most of their surroundings. Discover Harbour Lights' namesake at the end of the garden...a quaint little lookout shed which in times past was home to the searchlight that guided the Tall Ships safely into harbour.  Here you'll find two benches carved from the old roof timbers, creating the perfect romantic hideaway. Oh - and just in case you're wondering whether any remnants of the building's former history remain, hanging proudly above the downstairs bathroom are the original ‘ladies' and ‘gentlemen' signs… We just couldn't bring themselves to flush those away! You'll find it extremely difficult to tear yourself away from this sea sanctuary, but if you decide to venture out and about, why not take your dog to Charlestown beach for a run, perhaps with some seal and dolphin-spotting along the way?  Watch the fishermen bring in their daily catch before taking yourselves off to indulge in a gourmet seafood meal at the award-winning Falmouth Bay Seafood Café in Truro, another of our stylish dog-friendly retreats. The ancient Grade 2 listed port is steeped in historical architecture...along with a glittering touch of celebrity from its regular use as a film set. So set sail to Harbour Lights and enjoy an invigorating and relaxing break with genuinely breathtaking sea views you won't forget in a hurry!
The beautiful village port of Charlestown has played host to many famous figures in its time, from Poldark to Alice in Wonderland. Go off in any direction along the coast and you’ll find a range of wonderful cafes and restaurants.
  • The place is picturesque, from both inside and outside. You feel disconnected from the world but yet so connected to yourself. The actual feeling around and inside the place is not intelligible and can not be comprehended by the mind, only felt by the heart. Thank you Charlotte for such experience!

  • Harbour Lights will knock your socks off if you are after a relaxing break with great views and facilities

  • This is a special place, in particular for a 'couples getaway'. We went as a family (two teenage girls) and though a squeeze in the spare room for the girls we all found it a great place to spend a week exploring the local walks, beaches and food. Notwithstanding our stay included a visit from 'Storm Dennis' it was a fantastic week and we enjoyed watching the weather coming into the bay.

  • Really lovely place in a great location with lovely restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Charlotte was a great host who was available to help with anything required. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thanks! X

  • What a nice place harbour lights is. Location is perfect with amazing views & the accommodation is brilliant.

  • This really is a ‘gem’ — absolutely stunning property with luxury finish, in a truly superb location! Walking distance to local beaches, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and everything you will need. We never used our car at all during our stay, and wakening up to the sea views every morning...just ‘wow’!!

    Warren2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great

    Robert2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Well where do I start!! The property it’s self is nothing short of amazing. Charlotte kindly accommodated an early check in which was much appreciated. My dogs thoroughly enjoyed their stay with lovely complimentary doggie bags. The views from the hot tub are to die for and there was nothing better than relaxing in the bath looking out at the ocean at the end of the day. The scones and the bubbly definitely made it that little bit more special if that’s even possible! Charlestown is beautiful and the recommendations from the welcome pack where much appreciated. Longstore was a special place for a very nice steak. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to be able to stay again soon.

Featured in The Telegraph and Cornwall Today. Many guests say that our photos don't do us justice, trust them, this is a perfect destination for complete relaxation and privacy. Close the gates and stay put! Two supercool spaces The Bespoke Cabin with woodburner and the Summerhouse are set in a private meadow. The Summerhouse at the top of the meadow has views, fab for sunbathing or cloud and star gazing it has a deck and firebowl. Children over 6yrs welcome.
Built for purpose the cabin is a one off alternative and self contained beautiful space. It is not a mobile home/kit or attached to my property. It is a converted field shelter Bespoke design not a kit!! It is a separate entity along the lane from my property and set within its large and beautiful 1.5 acre meadow with views. Dimensions are 6m x 4m. Small but pefectly formed. The ground floor has a kitchen and living space combined with a woodburner. The living space is double height which gives a feeling of space. Also on the ground floor a bedroom with double bed and ensuite shower room. A heavy curtain can be pulled to separate the downstairs living and sleeping areas. The Cabin is light and airy and all windows are double glazed and the cabin is twin skinned with full insulation. There is an electric radiator in the bedroom area, which can be moved around. The second double bed is above this room on a mezzanine level accessed by a ladder, there is limited head height here on the mezzanine but this makes it a snug and cosy space, with blinds which drop down for privacy. Not suitable for younger children. Not suitable for ages 2 to 6 older children could be considered. There is a freeview television with radio. No wifi. Good 4g coverage...especially in the Summerhouse. Probably more suited for a couple but four adults or two extra older children would be fine. Romantic or retreat! Private and a lovely setting. Officially used for engagement surprises and Honeymoons. I can arrange balloons or cake or anything to make your celebration special, just ask. Access to the mezzanine nook is by ladder! Outside space is private and extensive and although next to the lane this is a very quiet valley. You have a private paddock with a summer house with deck at the top of it for lazydays watching the sky or sunbathing on the deck. Ideal star gazing very little if any light pollution. A fabulous firebowl is also situated by the Summerhouse. There is a smaller fire pit down by The Cabin and bbq. Ideal cycling/walking country. On the Saint's Way situated below Helman Tor. Beside Breney Common Nature reserve. Also on cycle route 3. Very little light pollution. Situated in the geographic middle of Cornwall so easy to access coast and most famous areas. Please message me for any more information. One night stays subject to availability please message for details.
We are on the Saints' Way here and walking distance from Helman Tor a special and beautiful place. Also Breney Common Nature Reserve is adjacent to the cabin and a haven for wildlife. The nearest pub is 2.5 miles away the Crown Inn in Lanlivery, the Kings Arms pub in Luxulyan is also close with great food and atmosphere. Fowey and Lostwithiel are approx. 7 and 9 miles away. No public transport nearby the nearest train stations are Bodmin Parkway and Par both 7 miles away and this would be a great base for a cycling holiday being on the Cycle Route 3 . By appt I could collect from a train. Happy to help with ideas for trips if you can tear yourself away from here and the cabin has maps and tourist info for you to browse. Games and binoculars if you just want to hunker down!
  • You will not be disappointed. The cabin is such a lovely space, really well equipped, great location and the most wonderful, responsive and thoughtful host. The space is perfect for a quiet getaway and is full of everything you could need. We will definitely be returning again!

  • The best air bnb I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Carol and her cabin are both amazing. From the outset you get a good feeling from Carol’s warmness and kind heartedness and on arrival you can see that she has put her soul into this beautiful cabin. The setting is idyllic and the cabin itself is truly unique. Every little detail has been thought of and the little touches make the cabin feel a home away from home. It’s cosy, romantic and homely - a real rare find! I can not recommend this place enough. The decor and architecture are incredible and Carol’s easy to follow instructions mean using the wood burner and outdoor fire pits are a doddle. There isn’t WiFi (not an issue as you are there to relax and enjoy your surroundings and I found it nice to be disconnected) but if you want to watch a movie in the snug upstairs room on a chilly evening perhaps download something before arriving. There are many beautiful coastal walks in easy reach by car; the coastal path to Polperro is beautiful and a trip to the beach at East Looe is a lovely way to spend the afternoon with a Cornish ice cream. The Bodmin Moore’s are on the doorstep as is the Eden project. Thank you Carol for sharing such a wonderful space with us! 10/10 - a must visit for everyone 😊 I would also recommend a lunch visit to the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery just beyond Lostwithiel (approx 15 min drive) - good food, friendly staff and a very sweet resident cat living in the garden centre shop!

    Kitty2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabin is a unique and wonderful place to stay. Carol has made this place romantic and quirky and is a wonderful host. The summerhouse at the top of the field is a lovely extra that you don’t get at most places. If you want to escape from the rat race and have some romantic time alone with that someone you love this is most definitely the place to stay x

    Ben2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Carol has been an amazing host, she was extremely understanding and welcoming when we arrived an hour ahead of schedule. The Cabin is a very cosy and homely place to get away for a few days and is perfectly placed for the Eden Project and some great local seaside towns. We look forward to staying again!

    Elliot2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Loved it 😊

    Richard2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabin was truly beautiful - it was everything we’d hoped for and more. Carol has thought of everything; the personal touches (games, umbrellas, lanterns, etc) made the place even more special. The decor is also brilliant - very homely and comfortable to the point we spent more time in enjoying the fire and games than we did out in the end! Carol is also a fantastic host with brilliant communication and attention to detail. We were overall delighted with our stay and cannot wait to return.

    Kassie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabin is a perfect place to get away and unplug! We really enjoyed switching off (we had no phone reception and there is no wifi) and relaxing in beautiful surroundings. The Cabin has everything you could need when you are away, Carol has thought of everything. The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked in every night. There are lots of games and books and a TV. We didn't make use of the Summer House but can imagine it would be lovely when it's a bit warmer! You definitely need a car if you are staying here and there are no pubs or shops within walking distance. We visited the Eden Project - it's less than a 15 minute drive. Loved our stay here, we will come back!

    Sarah2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect, absolutely spot on. Stylish and cosy little hideaway. Carol was great at checking us in and keeping in touch. Beautiful little cabin.

  • We were welcomed with smiles and hot coffee and brownies on arrival by our hosts who couldn't of been more welcoming and friendly. The accommodation was perfect, warm and spotless. More than enough room for our party. The whole site was a real pleasure from the games barn and the wood fired hot tub to feeding the pigs and collecting eggs from the friendly hens. We couldn't have been more happy with our stay, the location was perfect and everything we wanted was close by. The only problem was our stay wasn't for long enough. We will definitely be back. Thanks again. Xx

  • We had a fantastic stay in a beautiful location with great hospitality and home made brownies thrown in for good measure.

  • The Long Barn is such a lovely place to stay with everything you could wish for and more. Sara and Rob were perfect hosts and couldn’t do enough for us. I would highly recommend staying here.

    Carla2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at Christmas, Sara and Rob were lovely. The kids loved feeding the animals each morning and having lovely fresh eggs and apple juice was lovely. Also put up a Christmas tree and decorations for the kids. Highly recommended.

  • What a fabulous spot! Sara and Rob were lovely. The barn is cosy stylish and very comfortable. We loved the hot tub and pizza oven and what a peaceful place. can’t wait to come back!

    Bee2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible location. Outstandingly beautiful and very peaceful and quiet. Rob and Sara were both friendly and ready to take care of anything we needed them for. Facilities were great for a bit of fun or some relaxation. Exactly what we all needed!

    Alex2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The long barn is fab! We loved all the cute little touches like leaving eggs for our breakfast, having a herb garden and apple trees local to the barn. The bed was super comfy, the kitchen was great and the en suite shower was amazing! We’ll definitely be back - most likely with a group of friends and their kids!

The SIPHON offers a special glamping holiday where your carbon footprint will be minimal - we source as much as we can from local suppliers and ask our guests to recycle/compost. The SIPHON is off grid - solar power provides electricity for lighting and charging mobile phones - and there is a 'green' waterless toilet. A really exciting AND DIFFERENT holiday experience with outside space for barbecuing and play. Perfect for FAMILY celebrations, children AND dogs AND close to the EDEN PROJECT
Enjoy the comfort of the wood burning stove, melt marshmallow over the fire pit or cook your meal in the open air! Close to the Eden Project, The Siphon railway carriage offers a totally different holiday experience. Stay in this converted railway carriage with comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, COSY WOOD BURNING STOVE (first night’s fuel FREE thereafter £5 a pack) separate compost toilet and an amazing hot shower, 12 volt electricity for lighting and phone charging and a fire pit. A great off-grid glamping experience. Although listed as sleeping eight people, the Siphon itself sleeps UP TO SIX (bunk beds can only be used by children of six or above) with an additional two people being accommodated in The Toad BRAKE VAN which is close by, at a small additional charge The Siphon RAILWAY CARRIAGE is nearly 60' long, divided into three separate bedrooms, one with a king size double the SECOND with two single beds, plus an additional THIRD bedroom with bunk beds (not suitable for very young children). In addition two adults can be accommodated in The Toad brake van which is just a few yards away, offering the facility for two families or a larger group of friends to stay. There is a sitting/dining area with WOOD BURNING STOVE, fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker plus an outside dining area when the weather is warm. The Siphon can accommodate SIX people in three separate bedrooms(and up to 8 people in total using both carriages). The living space and one of the bedrooms have double doors which lead out onto raised decking - perfect for al fresco dining - and a fully equipped kitchen area with gas cooker, work tops, sink and storage plus an enormous, very efficient cold box on the balcony. We change the ice packs as and when necessary for our guests. The Siphon is 'off-grid' - there is no mains electricity only 12 volt lighting and a charging point for phones. Sorry, no tv or electrical appliances! There is a cold water supply inside the wagon and an amazing outside hot shower and a ‘green ‘ toilet a very few steps away (less than ten feet). Outside and on a lower level to The Siphon is a firepit and seating area (just wooden planks on blocks)! where you can enjoy a drink (or two), watch the stars or listen to the sounds of the country whilst filling the fire - we can sell you bags of logs (£5 bag for kiln dried wood) - sorry but we are unable to provide free fuel for either the Wood burning stove or the firepit. Fuel for the stove MUST be purchased from us at £5 a pack although we supply your first pack free of charge. (Logs, kindling, flamer firefighter and matches). You will share your outside space with the birds and the many wild animals which live around - foxes, badgers, deer, otters, squirrels and many more smaller mammals but the inside of the Siphon is warm and secure. Fall asleep to the sound of the nearby river and wake to the dawn chorus of the birds. The Siphon is not for the frail or timid - the doors are the original heavy wood ones and the catches are also original - marvel at the workmanship which went into the making of this grand old lady and marvel yet more at the way in which she has converted so magnificently into this unusual holiday space. We have had nothing but positive feedback from our guests who come with open minds to enjoy this unusual and definitely unique glamping holiday destination. We hope that everything will be perfect for you and it will certainly be a new and exciting holiday experience for everyone who stays. Our younger guests have delighted in the magic of staying on a 'train' and Train Teddy will be there to greet them. Lots of space for running around, outside games and a range of indoor games for families to enjoy if the weather isnt good. The Siphons - the telegraphic name for these commercial carriages - carried milk in milk churns from the West Country to the cities of the UK. The Siphons were based on the chassis of passenger carriages and often were added to the rear of express passenger trains travelling from the West Country in order to transport milk and other perishables as quickly as possible to London and other centres. There were louvres cut into the wooden sides at two levels to allow for greater ventilation and these we have retained as much as possible in 'our' Siphon. This is truly a piece of railway history, particularly as there are only a handful of Siphons still in existence and many of these are in a very poor state. We describe The Siphon as an unique 'glamping with style' experience - a beautiful and spacious area in a railway carriage - but perhaps you will have other ways of describing her.... Our guests will enjoy the Siphon, the surrounding area and have access onto miles of surrounding trails and the walk or cycle to the Eden Project. The Siphon is positioned on one of the sidings of the Trenance Valley Line - one of the last branch lines built by the Great Western Railway or the GWR - 'God's Wonderful Railway'. This line only carried commercial traffic. It was authorised in 1910, opened in 1920 after the first world war and eventually closed in 1968. A word of warning - the river is close by and is NOT securely fenced so children will need to be supervised but what an experience for everyone who stays here! We also feel that The Siphon experience may not be entirely suitable for very young children - children of three or younger have stayed very successfully and have been enthralled by the experience but, parents, be aware! no washing machine, only an outside shower and no tv! But there are plenty of positive things to offset these. Being close to nature, plenty of 'family' time with no digital distractions, walking, playing outside or playing some of the games which are inside the Siphon, melting marshmallows at the firepit, cooking supper over a wood fire, having evening sing-songs around the fire, partying - your choice - some or all of these! The whole area was an industrial site so be aware that there are drops, uneven surfaces and other hazards - but common sense and care will prevent any accidents. We are happy to suggest places to visit, suggestions on where to eat and walks accessible from The Siphon or slightly further away. The Siphon is in a rural position in a valley setting close to the River Vinnick - we could bore you with more historical detail but you can read all about the area when you are here. Centrally positioned for exploring Cornwall, close to the south Cornish beaches and only a short drive to the surfing beaches of the north coast - just a perfect holiday retreat! There is public transport but limited - do please try to bring a car or rent one when you get here - mainline trains at St. Austell, about 1.5 miles away, a few buses and, of course, taxis. You can also walk directly from The Siphon into St. Austell using the trails which cover miles of the surrounding area, or you can walk to the Eden Project using the trails. The Siphon is not connected to the national grid - electricity is 12 volt supplied via solar energy. Therefore - no tvs, no hairdryers, no washing machines -but plenty of peace, relaxation, bird song, playing games, conversation, good food and wine - the list is endless. There is a cold water supply connected to the sink in the kitchen and there is hot water to the shower and basin outside. We aim to keep our 'carbon footprint' as small as possible and at the same time offer our guests a truly unique holiday experience. We therefore ask all guests to recycle as much of their rubbish as possible (tins/plastic bottles/glass jars and bottles, cardboard and paper are all collected) and to buy local produce whenever possible to reduce 'food miles'. The Siphon has a wood burning stove installed which heats the main living area - an excellent heat source to keep away any chill. Please note that fuel for the stove must be purchased from us and guests are asked not to burn any rubbish in the stove. PLEASE NOTE THAT DURING PEAK PERIODS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS THERE IS A MINIMUM BOOKING PERIOD OF THREE DAYS. At all other times the minimum booking period is two days apart from a few weeks in November/December when we are happy to accept ONE DAY BOOKINGS. THE TOAD: We have a second carriage available which sleeps 2 adults - if your party numbers more than 6 please ask about this which is available at an extra but discounted price. The Toad brake van was used on the Great Western Railway at the end of long trains carrying commercial traffic. It has the original sand boxes supplying sand to the braking wheels to help slow down the train and although now converted to holiday accommodation the original features of the wagon are still present. The Toad offers a living space with seating and a double bed plus a kitchen with hob and sink. There is cold water only into the kitchen sink and a further tap outside. Outside is a fire area for outdoor cooking if the weather permits. The Toad is only available for renting in conjunction with The Siphon as it shares the outdoor shower and toilet and for groups of over 6. Very occasionally The Toad can be used as a stand alone unit but only when The Siphon is not being used. Minimum rental periods are then two days out of season and three days in season (July and August, Christmas and New Year and all school holidays). Please ask for more details. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR USING THE TOAD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SIPHON - PLEASE ASK BEFORE REQUESTING A RESERVATION. The Siphon itself - all 60' of her space - the immediate surrounding area including the firepit for outside fires and barbecue area and access onto miles of surrounding trails - all this is available to our guests. We are here to answer questions, help with suggestions of places to visit, change the icepacks in the giant cold box as and when necessary, provide information for local sightseeing - as little or as much help as you might need. Public transport isn't great - the main line railway station is at St. Austell (about 1.5 miles away), Newquay Airport (about 11 miles away), cross channel ferry at Plymouth for France (about 40 miles away) but local bus services are infrequent and we really do suggest having a car at your disposal, even if you hire one when you get to St. Austell. Guests staying in The Siphon need to be slightly different in their outlook on life - enjoy the outdoors, maybe walking or cycling, surfing or swimming, sailing or kayaking - prepared to spend the evenings playing board games or sitting outside watching the stars - barbecue some freshly caught fish (from one of the nearby harbours) - just a few suggestions........
Very close to the Eden Project and within easy reach of Heligan Gardens and the beaches of the north and south coast.
  • Wonderful stay in a unique place. They had everything we needed, and even added a few lovely extra touches. With the fire going, the place was a lot warmer than expected, and the outside shower was great! If its wet weather - bring wellies!

  • Quirky and lots of fun. Lovely location with everything you need.

    Becky2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful train carriage, great location and not in the middle of nowhere as i originally thought. Very easy access into st austell. Fire had been lit for check in, so was lovely and warm throughout with a welcome pressie and some lovely plants. All rooms had extra blankets and a there was even a cute selection of hot water bottles provided to warm the beds due to the time of the year. The train has a lovely raised deck that overlooks a fast flowing river which was an added bonus. A truly different but wonderful stay.

  • We had a really good time staying at The Siphon. It was lovely and cosy with the log burner going on arrival in the evening, which was appreciated on a very wet and windy weekend at the end of October. The rain made it even more of a great adventure for a 9 and 5 year old and something they'll be talking about for months to come. It took them a little while to come to terms with getting their boots and coats on in the night to go to the outside loo, but that will only make it more memorable for them. It was refreshing to be 'off grid' for the long weekend, no electronics and just a good selection of board games and a radio (both provided) which was set to Classic FM for maximum chill in the evenings. Now that we're back home, the children are of course back on their iPad's, but I like to think with a fond memory for the simple life. We'll definitely try to go back in the summer to make the most of the surroundings. As a side note, everything that was provided was of high quality and eco friendly where possible.

  • Chris and Jo have an amazing air bnb and I would recommend this venue to anyone wanting a unique glamping experience. All amenities needed were available and although it was cold there were many blankets and thick quilts to keep us warm and cosy. This would be a perfect venue during the warmer periods to go on long walks along the clay trail and enjoy the surrounding area. There was an abundance of information given for things to do, eat, travel information and even places to avoid. Wonderful hosts an a wonderful experience. Already thinking of returning next year.

    Emily2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Would 100% recommend Chris and Jo’s place! The scenery is absolutely beautiful, the siphon is so cozy and heart warming and the decor is gorgeous! The 5 of us loved every second and we all hope to return in the future.

    Jorden2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Family - including a toddler and two dogs! We had an absolutely fantastic time and Chris & Jo have done such a wonderful job restoring the carriage and turning it a lovely hideaway. Everything was so cozy and comfy, and there was everything you needed to make home cooking each day. The setting too is great, as although close to lots of places to explore, there was also a sense of being out in the wild! Thanks in part to an amazing outdoor shower, lots of trees and birds, the sound of the running river, and the fire pit to wile away the evenings

  • An amazingly cosy and unique place to stay. Chris and Jo have thought of everything and the kitchen is very well equipped. The vast selection of board games kept the kids assumed for quite a while. A great base for exploring Cornwall from. We particularly liked Mevagissy and Porthpean beach.

**PLEASE NOTE: I will offer a full refund in the event of further travel restrictions due to Corona Virus** Touchstone Cottage is a lovingly restored 200 year old fisherman's cottage just a stone's throw from Mevagissey's working harbour on the much sought after sunny East Cliff. As a 19th century cottage, tucked away up a secluded cobbled path, you are unable to reach the Cottage by car; this ensures that you will enjoy a peaceful stay. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are within walking distance
The upper floor of the Cottage is light and airy; a partition wall has been removed to create a 'mezzanine' bedroom, next to the bathroom. The bedroom has a lovely view across the cobbled back streets of the Village. Light floods down the stairs to the Living Room which features original floorboards which have been lovingly restored, and a log burning stove. There are exposed beams throughout and heaps of character. The cottage is painted white throughout, and features lovely Loaf furniture in the bedroom and living room. Downstairs, on the ground floor, the kitchen/diner features the prettiest slate tiles complete with underfloor heating. Should you choose to cook at home you will find that the kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob and oven, and a lovely pale blue 1950s style SMEG fridge with freezer box. The look is complemented by the mid-century Ercol table and chairs. Finally, a word of caution, the internal stairs are original and are therefore tight and steep, and the cobbled path leading to the cottage can be slippery when wet! I very much look forward to welcoming you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions.
Mevagissey is a beautiful base from which to explore the surrounding area and you will experience a real slice of traditional Cornish life during your stay. In the village itself you will find many lovely shops to browse around alongside 'olde worlde' pubs, cafes and restaurants, where you can eat and drink locally sourced produce. The fishermen haul in their catch at the end of the day and both deep-sea angling trips and short mackerel fishing trips in the bay are available from the quay. The seagulls follow the boats in and are very noisy; just thought I would mention this as the cottage is very close to the harbour! During the summer months there are ferries that will take you from the harbour to Fowey or around the coastline. Mevagissey also has its own small sealife aquarium and museum. Mevagissey is surrounded by beautiful beaches which you can access from The Coast Path; the cottage is just seconds from the Coast Path. You can walk up 'The Cliff' to the top and follow the footpath to beautiful Polstreath beach (steps down) or you can walk over the top of Polkirt Hill and down to Portmellon beach, a sandy cove with plenty of rock pools. From here you can follow the Coast Path to Colona Beach at Chapel Point beach, and, if you are a keen walker, you can keep on walking to Gorran Haven Beach, and you might catch sight of seals, dolphins or even basking sharks on the way. Mevagissey does have its own small beach in the harbour if you do not want to walk. There are many other unspoilt beaches within 10 minutes' drive including Gorran Haven, Vault Beach, Hemmick and Porthluney 'Caerhays', to name but a few. Lovely unspoilt villages such as Port Holland and Portloe, the majestic Nare Head and Pendower Beach, and the Roseland Peninsula and its beautiful beaches, including Towan beach, are all within a 30 minute drive. You can also take the scenic King Harry Ferry across the Fal River and continue on to Falmouth. The North Coast is a short 40 minute drive away and there are surfing beaches at Newquay, Perranporth etc. Mevagissey also hosts its own Feast Week during the last week of June when the harbour is decorated with bright lights and flags, there is a full week of activities and on the final evening there is a spectacular firework display around the harbour. Local Beach Summary Mevagissey beach in the harbour (5 minutes walk) Polstreath beach (steps down) - walk up 'The Cliff' on the east side of the harbour to the top and follow the Coast Path (10 minutes walk) Pentewan beach - follow the Coast Path east of Polstreath beach Portmellon beach - walk over the top of Polkirt Hill (20 minutes walk) Colona Beach, Chapel Point - follow the Coast Path west of Portmellon (30 minutes walk)
  • Really charming cottage, nicely done up, perfect for a cosy winter weekend. 30 second walk from the harbour with lovely views and lots of nice places to eat and explore.

  • A lovely old fisherman’s cottage, up a lovely old street in a lovely old town. The space was everything we hoped for, with a very comfortable kitchen and a lovely view over the town from the bedroom. It’s a stones throw from the harbour and its amenities, and well positioned for walks along the coast, a trip to the Eden project or a longer journey to explore other parts of Cornwall.

    Leonie2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • A great location, with everything you need for a break at the seaside. We enjoyed walking to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the coastal walk to Gorran Haven. A friendly village too!

  • Lovely cabin, the perfect getaway where you totally escape reality. Walk welcome, it was nice to have milk, cereal and toast on arrival. The woods which the cabin is set in is truest magical. We will definitely be back again

  • I visited Clare's cabin with the idea of fostering a love of the woods in my children. I have not been disappointed, they both came away absolutely in love with the woods, the streams and rivers and all that the area had to offer. The cabin is neat, spacious, well presented with everything one could need. We will be back!

    Lindsay2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely secluded spot, we had a lovely stay in cabin and had everything that we required. We were there when weather was not so great but still had a good time. Picturesque surroundings, nice and peaceful.

  • A cosy little cabin set in the most beautiful wooded area. We woke to birdsong in the morning and watched the stars at night. A perfect weekend getaway, we will definitely be returning. Thank you very much.

  • Great quiet chalet for two. Great location for exploring Cornwall. Lovely and cosy. I’ll be back👍

    Graham2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cabin, great location, peaceful and secluded. Good location for the eden project, beach, estuary... Lots of books and games for relaxing evenings. The heater could do with updating as it doesn't quite manage with cold winter nights, but this is the only minor criticism of a really nice, great value cabin, we'll definitely book again.

    Jamie2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A truly beautiful retreat tucked away in the cornish countryside. All the home comforts you'd possibly need for a short stay. Very clean, warm and comfortable furnishings. Look forward to returning one day 😊

Nestled between St Austell and Carlyon Bay, Charlestown is a picturesque, historic fishing port on the South East coast of Cornwall.Having largely resisted the modernisation and commercialisation of some other popular destinations, Charlestown has held onto it's unique, quintessential Cornish charm. For this reason, it has been a popular backdrop to a number of film and television projects, including Poldark, Dr Who and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Steeped in history, no visit would be complete without a trip to the Charlestown shipwreck and Heritage centre, which exhibits a fascinating array of artefacts, stories and information about the village and it's maritime history. Aside from the museum, Charlestown also has a couple of art galleries, a harbourside pub boasting excellent views, a small sandy beach and a number of small shops to browse your way through.Once a year the village holds its annual Regatta: a week long event featuring watersports, games, sports competitions and a carnival, all to raise money for the village. With plenty to while away a very pleasant day, Charlestown is well worth a visit.

  • A great house in a great location! We appreciated having a dog-friendly house in this great location. We loved being able to walk down to the Charlestown beach each morning and evening, be within 5-10 minutes drive of beaches at Porthpean, Carlyon, and Par, and so close to grocery stores (Tesco, ASDA, and Lidl) for supplies for self-catering. The house was lovely and warm, stylish, and exactly what we were looking for. Would love to come back at some point.

  • This is an adorable little flat, the bed is very comfortable, and it’s a great place for exploring the local area. You’ll feel very warmly welcomed here! It’s quite chilly, the oil heaters work well but I’d recommend bringing slippers and a hot water bottle if you tend to get cold at night. There’s a very quirky cottage feel to the place, which is lovely.

    Emily2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the Sweet Shop cottage for New Years Eve, for a country getaway. The house was so small and cosy with a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom upstairs. The house was decorated with local artwork and had a variety of leaflets about the local area, Chris also told us where to visit which was great. We were welcomed by Chris who explained how to work everything and left us a cream tea which was a lovely treat after our 2 hour drive down. The kitchen had the basics and there were supplies to make tea and coffee, oven, microwave, fridge, kettle ect. The bathroom had an amazing shower and the bedroom was spacious with a really comfy bed and TV for entertainment. The house had no central heating so the floor was really cold (take slippers!) but upstairs was fine. There were oil heaters on both levels to keep us warm. We walked down to Charlestown Harbour which was beautiful with the sea, rocks and fairy lights everywhere. It was the peaceful break we were looking for and I can't recommend Chris' house more!

    Brittany2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication, and easy check in. Chris provided scones, jam and cream, which was a lovely touch. Comfortable and self contained, parking space available, made it a great place for a short stay. Easy walking distance to Charlestown Harbour!

  • Lovely little place.. full of character and ideal to have a parking space so close to the town..

    Sarah2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and quirky little place. Fab location for local shops/ pubs/ beach. It is on the road so a little noisy, but you can’t hear this from the bedroom. Great for 2 people. The cream tea was lovely - thank you! The parking was good, but wouldn’t recommend if you have a large vehicle/ 4x4. The hosts were super welcoming and friendly.

Small double bedroom with adjacent private bathroom in a modern and professional home. The bedroom itself is relatively small however perfectly suitable for one person. South facing and decorated in neutral colours the room has an airy feel to it, you’ll find a small double (4ft / 1.2m wide) bed with a comfortable memory foam mattress, single mirrored wardrobe, chest of drawers, a side table and one bedside cabinet.
The room is laid out with the bed against the wall so as to allow more space for moving around. If this is not an issue you may find that it is suitable for two people. Other items in the room include; Touch lamp on bed side cabinet, television with Freeview, hairdryer, iron & ironing Board, oversized king-sized light weight duvet and four pillows. The bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom and is used only by this room, it has a toilet, basin and bath with shower over, also in the bath room you will find the following; Bath towel, hand towel, flannel, bath mat, shampoo, conditioner & toilet roll. It may be possible for you to use the washing machine but please confirm this first and bear in mind there is only an outside washing line for drying so you’ll need to time the weather right! It is a modern semi-detached three-bedroom house positioned at the end of the close and subsequently has a calm and relaxing feel to it, the house is clean, tidy and well-presented and I am very lucky to have lovely neighbours. I live here with my three cats, Josie, Tilly & Teddy who are naturally convinced that they are in charge and subsequently roam freely (please keep your doors closed if you don't want to have guests of your own). There is a well-equipped kitchen if you wish to prepare any meals – just be sure to load the dishwasher and try to be finished by ten so that I can get my beauty sleep! Opposite the house is a dedicated private and off-road drive for you to park a car. The back garden is split over two levels, please feel free to make use of the top level where you’ll find a selection of garden furniture available on the lawn. Please feel free to use the sitting room during the working week days, I do reserve this to myself for the evening and weekends though. House requests Other than respecting the non-smoking policy please just be mindful of the time and noise levels within the house after 10pm If you wish to stay up chatting after this then the conservatory off the kitchen is a great relaxed place for this.
The house is built on a recent housing development in Par, Par is a village and fishing port with a harbour on the south Cornish coast set between Charlestown and Fowey.
  • Great place to stay. Matt is really friendly and easy to get on with and lets you do your own thing. Very clean bright modern and warm house. Everything you need is there - good sized bathroom, comfy bed, tv in room, decent storage space. Well equipped kitchen which you are allowed use of and Matt even lets you have space in the fridge and cupboard. Friendly cats that will sit on your lap in the conservatory and keep you company. Great views from the garden.

  • Matthew's place was perfect for my working holiday in Par. Close to the beach and local amenities. The room is light with its own adjacent bathroom and good WiFi connection.

  • Matthew was a fabulous host and the accommodation itself is great — exactly as it is described. A great room for both short and long term stays being close to many attractions. Having the shops in Par and the beach within walking distance is handy. You’d be hard pressed to find a more helpful, friendly, and welcoming host than Matthew.

A double room with TV, Amazon Firestick, tea & coffee making facilities, newly refurbished family bathroom.
Locally there is an excellent provision of food choices within walking distance. We are also perfectly positioned to explore the entire County. Previous guests have visited The Historic Port of Charlestown (Poldark has been filmed here), Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Within an hour you can be walking on Bodmin Moor or swimming in the blue waters of Porth Curnow. Beaches are plentiful! The most local is Carlyon Bay with others such as Porthpean, Pentewan, Caerhays and Polkerris a short drive away. If you fancy exploring more widely head for the Roseland Peninsula and look for Carne, Pendower and Caerhayes. The North Coast is more rugged and a fantastic spot to watch the sun set. Personally I love, Newquay, Crantock, Holywell Bay, Polzeath, Harlin Bay & Perranporth. St Austell town centre is a short stroll left out of the house and up the hill. It has a variety of independent and high street stores and is definitely worth a potter if you have time. Truro is larger and the Cathedral City of Cornwall. There are many shops, restaurants, cafes in the city as well as the Museum for Cornwall and of course the stunning Cathedral! If you like walking I thoroughly recommend ‘IWALK Cornwall’ which is a free app and has loads of fantastic circular walks for every taste, covering the whole of Cornwall. A walk costs £1.99 to download and uses GPS to guide you every step of the way. Eating and Drinking Costa – great for a coffee and snack breakfast – turn right out of the house and cross at the double roundabout. Follow the road towards Mevagissey and you will find Costa in the complex on your right. You can’t miss McDonalds and KFC which are also in that area! Frankie and Bennie’s, Wetherspoons & Prezzo are in the White River Place, turn left out of the house, 2 mins walk up the hill along with a host of independents including Smorgers, Nepalese Gurkha Restaurant, Watermargin Chinese Restaurant, Walkers Fish & Chips If you fancy something different head for Charlestown to eat or drink. There is a plethora of bars, restaurants and coffee shops, some of which are listed below. All have a pleasant atmosphere & serve high quality food but please make sure you book ahead to avoid disappointment*: The Longstore* - Charlies Boathouse* - The Pier House Hotel* - Rashleigh Inn * - The Harbourside - Charlies Coffee Shop – Pentewan is 10 min drive and offers, Simply Judes Brasserie and The Kingswood Restaurant can be found 5 minutes away in London Apprentice A more complete guide can be found: https://www.eatoutcornwall.com/restaurants/st-austell/
  • Jer’s place was spotlessly clean and good value for money, he was a very friendly host and asked multiple times if everything was ok and if there was anything else he could do to make my stay better. Would definitely recommend Pentrassoe if you're looking for a cheap and cheerful place close to St Austell town centre.

  • Stayed here with my family as we were in the area visiting the Eden Project. The apartment was perfectly located for that. And was a very clean, modern, nicely designed and well-run property. Sue was brilliant with communication. Very responsive. And the property had some great info books, and very clear instructions. Also some nice personal touches including a welcome pack of food and drink, including some delicious scones! Lovely and modern and very well done property. And brilliantly located for the Eden Project, which was the main reason we booked. Loads else to do in the general area, too.

Hallane Mill is an immaculately restored cottage nestled at the bottom of a valley where it meets the sea with a shingle beach and unrivalled views. You will not find a better spot for a romantic retreat in Cornwall.
There are very few properties in Cornwall as private as this, yet so close to the sea. The coast path actually meanders around the back of the house and there is a shingle beach 5m in front of the property. The Mill itself has been beautifully restored, with amazing attention to detail, and tastefully decorated and furnished while maximising character features. Imagine watching the sun rise over the sea while sipping a morning cup of tea or coffee followed by a refreshing dip in the crystal waters.Porthpean Beach is just to the north and is sandy, safe and sheltered with rock pools at the south western extremity while at the opposite end the cliffs are mainly populated by nesting birds. There is an 18 hole golf course just above it on the cliff top. The Eden Project is just to the east of St Austell, the Lost Gardens of Heligan a short drive to the south west, the picturesque Roseland Peninsula with its quaint fishing villages is within half an hour's drive and Newquay's vibrant surfing lifestyle and golden beaches are a similar distance to the north.Accommodation Ground Floor: Entrance into small utility room with doors to: Downstairs WC with handbasin. Open plan kitchen / dining room with fully fitted units and table and chairs, back door to rear patio, opening into double aspect lounge with stunning sea views, wood burning stove in stone fireplace, comfortable sofas and TV. Trenarren is equidistant between Porthpean, Charleston and St Austell to the north and Pentewan, Mevagissey and Caerhays to the south.Porthpean has a marvellous central location, a mere 5 minutes from the centre of St Austell yet sitting on a south east facing hill with a splendid view of St Austell Bay. The eighteen hole golf course has a mix with the front nine in a parkland setting bordering Penrice Woods with distant rural views of Cornwall, the back nine has an unsurpassed view across the bay towards Fowey. Porthpean Beach is sandy and sheltered and is a safe place to swim, paddle, explore rock pools or watch the nesting birds on the cliff.Less than a 10 minute drive away is the pretty harbour of Charlestown which offers plenty of places to get food and drink, a sweet shop, a couple of galleries and a Ship Wreck museum. It can also be reached by means of the coastal footpath from Porthpean. It is an excellent village to visit for a relaxed pub meal whilst enjoying views over the harbour and out to sea. There is also a small beach.Pentewan (just north of Mevagissey) has an industrial past that is still evident in the village today. It was once a busy harbour built by a local mine owner for shipping china clay. Inland is the Pentewan Valley Trail which is 4km of woodland and riverside walking following an old gauge railway to the village of London Apprentice. The village also has a small, friendly pub with tables on the old harbourside. There is a wonderful sandy, beach which is ideal for families. The town of Mevagissey is just a 5 minute drive in a southerly direction. Mevagissey is a wonderful little Cornish fishing village in South East Cornwall. Ideally located within easy reach of both The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. The tiny seaside village is packed with old Cornish cottages complete with narrow alleyways leading to converted fish cellars offering gift shops, galleries, pubs and cafes. Once a major Pilchard port, now the harbour boasts a smaller fleet, many of which provide sea tours, or boat trips to Fowey situated further up the South coast. The Harbour provides an ideal back drop for a fish and chip supper, followed by a stroll through the town at dusk. With a 10 minute drive to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and 30 minutes to the Eden Project, Mevagissey provides a excellent location for the keen gardener. Gorran Haven nearby offers an alternative day out as well as Pentewan with its fresh water dock basin. You can continue south along the coast down to Caerhays Castle and Porthluney Cove. Cliff walks in all directions along the coast offer spectacular views out across the St Austell Bay.The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are within an easy drive and so this is an excellent location for the keen gardener. Nearby Gorran Haven offers an alternative day out. You can continue south along the coast down to Caerhays Castle and Porthluney Cove. Cliff walks in all directions along the coast offer spectacular views out across the St Austell Bay with the coastal path only a few minutes walk from the cottage.St Austell was once the major producer of the world's China Clay. Now with cheaper foreign imports the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The brewery has recently started exporting its products across the Tamar River to England, so you may just find where your favourite brew is made.

Guests have access to the outhouse - en route to the Chalet - which houses a large fridge-freezer - where organic milk, bread, butter orange juice jam/marmalade and ground coffee are provided free.
Tywardreath is a very old village with lots of history, its name, translated from the Cornish, means 'house on the strand' - the title of one of Daphne du Maurier's novels. I could bore you with lots more on this subject :-). The village is a short distance uphill from the National Coast Path, the nearest beach (Par beach) - is very wide and has a large (paying) car park, dunes, a cafe, a pub at the entrance (The Ship), good, fine sand; gently sloping to the sea - so safe for young children. The water is very clean. The views are exceptional. Par has a post office, several pubs and shops, a small Co-op supermarket, library, bike hire and railway station - 15 minutes walk from the house. The Eden Project is 20 minutes by car.
  • This venue gave us very local access for so many attractions, especially the Eden Centre, Fowey, Polperro and Looe. Clive made our trip really easy, we felt very welcome and at home; he gave us countless tips and ideas about what to do locally and loaned us a very useful map outlining the shortcuts to places. The cabin was very cosy, despite the foul weather outside and Clive tried really hard to accommodate our use of wifi and various other needs. The washing up fairy meant that we could come home to all of that done and the use of the fridge was very helpful. For this and all the other very thoughtful touches, we were most grateful. Lovely place to stay for a short break.

  • Very quaint stay. Clive is super interesting and a thoughtful host

  • We really enjoyed our stay here, the chalet had everything we needed, in a peaceful setting and it was nice not to have a TV or any WiFi and switch off properly. The breakfast was delicious and thanks for our apples too! The chalet provided a great base to get to the beach, Fowey as well as walking distance to a great pub! Thanks Clive and Catherine for being such great hosts!

  • What a charming place , thoroughly enjoyed our stay, Clive is a great host very friendly and very knowledgeable regarding Cornwall. Wont hesitate to recommend this chalet

  • A lovely space. Private, clean and has everything you need to have a comfortable stay. Clive and Catherine are friendly and helpful hosts. We are walking the coast path and it is well positioned for that. Thoroughly recommended.

  • We would strongly recommend Clive's chalet. It's conveniently placed for those visiting the Eden Project, and it's only a few minutes walk from Par station, so if you're visiting Cornwall without a car, it's ideal. The chalet was exactly as described, and breakfast was delicious. Clive was an excellent host. He responded quickly to texts and gave us some tips for the local area.

There is a fine Shipwreck and Heritage Centre in the village, and several excellent restaurants and pubs. The village is very well situated for exploring Cornwall in all directions.
Charlestown is a popular destination for both couples and families alike. There is something for everyone, beaches, artisan shops, pubs, restaurants and cliff walks being situated on the South West coastal path.
  • The Beach Hut is small but perfectly formed! Bob provided a lovely breakfast and the place has lots of lovely little touches that make it feel really special. The location is great - plenty of places to eat and drink and some lovely coastal walks. We had a really good weekend!

    Daisy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very nice stay at Bob's place in Cornwall, he made sure we had a vegan friendly breakfast in the morning. It's located in a great area of Charlestown, near the sea, restaurants and hiking trails.

    Céline2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Beach Hut and would definitely recommend. It was a short walk from the beautiful harbour and the great range of restaurants that Charlestown has to offer. We really appreciated the continental breakfast which was topped up each day.

  • Bob's place is the perfect spot for enjoying all that Cornwall has to offer. The location of the beach hut is fantastic, not just for exploring quaint Charlestown but is really well placed for discovering Cornwall in general. The beach hut has everything you need for a short break, including plenty of breakfast and fruit to snack on! We particularly loved the seaside touches and the bucket sink. Bob was a fantastic host with great communication in the lead up to our trip as well as being super friendly and thoughtful whilst we were there. Warming the beach hut up for us so it was lovely and cosy before we arrived and making sure to wave us goodbye on our last morning - thanks Bob for a great stay!

    Karen2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We were visiting our family for the Christmas holidays and having previously stayed at The Beach Hut we were not disappointed this time either. The weather was not its best, rained most of the time, but the accommodation was very cosy and warm. So do not worry about staying in December. Parking is a bonus as it can get very busy. A complimentary selection breakfast cereals , orange juice, etc was also supplied. Hope to stay again soon. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

    Stephen2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous setting. Less than a minutes walk to the harbour. We wish we could’ve stayed an extra day. Bob’s hospitality was fantastic, great guy. Be happy to stay again, maybe when the weather is a bit warmer though

  • We had a wonderful stay at the Beach Hut, it’s a complete delight! Bob is a wonderful host and more than willing to give local advice on where to eat and things to do. The continental breakfast was such a nice touch! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Beach Hut and Bob and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you!

    Holly2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The beach hut was perfect for what we needed, it was cosy, warm and clean, and had some lovely touches, it was in a perfect location right in Charlestown. Bob was a lovely host, he welcomed us on our first day, was there if we needed anything but left us to it otherwise. He left us a choice of breakfast each morning which was a nice touch. Would definitely reccomend Bob's beach hut and we will be returning in the near future.

  • We stayed in the Studio over Valentines weekend and we really loved our stay. The apartment is very clean, spotless in fact, and has everything we could have possibly needed. The weather was awful with storm Dennis so it was great that we had good wifi and tv when we wanted to escape the rain. The TV has Netflix so we could log in to watch what we wanted too. A lovely area of Cornwall to visit. Many places easily accessible. Nice all you can eat Chinese at the end of the road. Carlyon Bay is close and a very lovely place to visit. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here, we will certainly stay again! It was a nice surprise to have a box of chocolates left for us too! Lovely hosts who always get back to us very quick. Perfect hosts! :)

Sunnyside is a stunning stone cottage set by the quayside in historic Charlestown. Comfortably accommodating 3 guests. There are two reception rooms and a well equipped kitchen as well as 2 beds and shower room There is an enclosed level garden to the front and enclosed private courtyard to the rear. Parking outside for guests. Famous for featuring in the BBC series Poldark, Charlestown offers a variety of great places to eat and drink as well as two beaches all around a harbour setting.
Comfy lounge and dining room with well equipped kitchen. One large double and a single bedroom upstairs as well as shower room.
Located about a mile outside the town of St Austell is Charlestown, an amazingly pristine, unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port. It was constructed between 1791 and 1801 by Charles Rashleigh, entrepreneur and member of the local landowning family, in response to the growth of the growth of the local mining industry. Originally built to export copper and import coal, it was soon being used for the export of China Clay. It is from its creator that the the port gets its name. Charlestown was formerly known as West Polmear with a population of 9 and a small fishing fleet that used the beach as a harbour. The project began with the construction of the pier to provide shelter for the fishing fleet and then the creation of a basin, cut out of the bedrock to allow the sailing ships in. The roads were widened and paved to allow for the wagons, which carried the cargo to and from the harbour. Charlestown Quay Upon completion, Charlestown was a model Georgian "new town". By the 19th Century various associated businesses were established in sheds and warehouses around the harbour such as pilchard curing, shipbuilding, brick making and lime burning, and the population exploded to close on 3,000. Many attractive period properties sprung up in the village, ranging from elegant Georgian houses to squat fisherman's cottages. Sailing Ships in Charlestown Harbour To this day the port remains unspoiled and retains much of its Georgian character. This unique combination has lead to Charlestown being a popular location for film and television locations, and to some extent this has probably helped subsidise its existence and prevent development. Credits include Poldark, Hornblower, Mansfield Park and many more. As well as being a harbour location Charlestown capitalises on it's past by harbouring a fleet of square riggers ships. There are usually at least one of these magnificent ships in the harbour and they really do transport you into a bygone era. Also worthy of mention isis the Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre. Located in one of the old China Clay buildings, the centre contains a number of exhibits relating to Charlestown's maritime past along with more general shipwreck salvage from Cornwall's coast.
  • Beautiful period cottage with great amenities in a fabulous location. Sunny and bright aspect, with comfortable rooms, parking directly outside, and a very short stroll to all the great cafes, pubs and bars in historic Charlestown. It's a great central location in Cornwall so easy to get to north coast beaches and south coast harbours alike, and the Eden Project is only 15 minutes away. Even though the weather wasn't amazing while we were there we found loads to do for our family including our nearly 10 year old, who loved it all. A really great place to stay - especially if you're looking for Poldark filming location!

    Gareth2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the place. The village is beautiful and the house is at two minutes walk from the beach, the harbour, the Restaurants and the shops. Charlestown is a perfect place to visit Cornwall. In half an hour drive you can practically get anywhere. In St. Austell, 5 minutes drive from Charlestown, one can find anything necessary and there is a train station. Totally recommended

    Joaquim2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place for a relaxing break. Exceptionally clean, comfortable beds, beautiful house which felt like home from home. The courtyard garden was fantastic to sit out and have breakfast and the scent of the roses in the front garden was amazing. Lovely to have parking outside the cottage and be so close to the hustle and bustle of the harbour yet feel completely private and secluded. The pasties and coffee in The Galley cafe are fantastic. Lots of places for food, drink and ice cream, our only problem was we weren't there long enough to try all of them. Lovely gift shops and galleries in Charlestown plus not too far from Fowey, Mevagissey, The Eden Project and supermarkets in St Austell for your essentials. Would highly recommend this cottage and hope to come back again one day.

  • Excellent cottage in a great location

    David2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sunnyside is a wonderful property, full of character and good facilities. Located in a quiet cul de sac. We travelled as a couple and stayed for four nights . Outside areas front and back, both well maintained and not overlooked. You can park right outside the house. Only a stones throw from The Rashleigh , a pub serving great food (and a quiz night on a Thursday). Other places to eat and craft shops , antique emporium, shipwreck museum ,deli etc all within 5 minutes walk. Picturesque harbour with three tall ships during our stay. Easy access to costal path. Cottage is well decorated , has everything you could need and lots of nice touches, like real plants indoors and lovely colourful window boxes. Bathroom only has a shower and is compact, but it has all you need. Communication after booking , and our arrival instructions all good and detailed. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here. Book it while you can !

  • The Fenten Chy at Chark Farm was the perfect place to stay in Cornwall. Just 10 min. drive to Bodmin and 5 min to the Crown Inn, a great old pub in Lanlivery. The place was spotless clean and Jenny and Clive were perfect hosts. The kitchen had everything we needed, even a dishwasher. We and our dog were very welcome, the other cottages on site are great for kids as well. We like to thank Jenny and Clive and we will be back.

I was lucky enough to grow up in this picturesque Harbourside village, it really is such a beautiful place, the beaches, cliff walks, the harbour and the numerous local places to visit including the Eden Project, lost gardens of Heligan, Fowey to name a few. We are lucky enough to have a large variety of great restaurants, pubs and coffee shops within a five minute walk. Just to be able to take a stroll down to the harbour and watch the local children enjoying harbour jumping as we used to when I was younger is a complete joy x
  • This place is fantastic. It's in a beautiful area where you can just park up and explore or drive to other beaches. We loved the decoration and all the nautical nods. Super clean and great kitchen.

  • Neptune’s Rest is a lovely, clean, comfortable place to stay with thoughtful decoration and has everything you need. This was our first Airbnb and it exceeded our expectations. Charlestown has several eateries, (enjoyed The Longstore) coffee shops, pub, gifty shops and beach all within walking distance. Great location to explore Cornwall, highly recommend.

  • Neptune’s Rest was the perfect place to stay for our family of 4 but would also be ideal for a couple wanting a cosy break by the coast. Sarita has created a very stylish but rustic place to stay just a stone’s throw from a lively harbour with plenty of places to eat, drink and have fun.

  • Our stay in the kingfisher cottage was lovely and we had a great time. The cottage had everything we needed and it was cosy and clean and a nice place to relax in. Phil gave us lots of information about things to do in the local area and everything was easy to get to.

    Marie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Phil's annexe is cosy but still spacious enough for two, the kitchen is just as good as home and the bathroom is like brand new! The cream tea and loaf of bread on arrival is a lush touch to add with the coffee and tea already there ready. Parking is right outside, I never had any accessibility issues and Phil was very amenable, giving me local tips on places to go and pubs to go to. The annexe is very clean and tidy, certainly good value!

    Oscar2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable cottage with all you need for a great stay. A well equipped kitchen meant that we could have a meal at the cottage without going out in the cold, although there are plenty of restaurant options around. Well located for exploring the local villages and the Eden Project. Appreciated the regular communications from the host too.

    Lorna2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Phil and Gaynors Kingfisher cottage. Check in was really easy with the use of a lock box and the cottage was perfectly clean and well presented upon arrival. We were greeted with scones, clotted cream and jam which was a very thoughtful touch. Phil was very helpful with restaurant recommendations too. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

    Holly2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Kingfisher Cottage has everything you need home from home. Everything has been thought of! Great equipped kitchen! Very cosy and peaceful, can't hear the road. Walked to and from Pentewan Sands every evening along the river. Phil was quick to respond via messages too! :) Would highly recommend staying here! Close to all attractions! We wished we'd booked an extra night.

  • Kingfisher Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. It’s cute and pretty, super comfortable and has everything you might need during a break. Phillip greeted us upon arrival, sharing hints and tips and pointing us in the direction of a most delicious cream tea waiting in the fridge. It’s situated perfectly for Eden and Heligan, and many Cornish villages and beaches. A glorious break, we hope to return.

    Sarah2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely delightful cottage, modern, clean and very well equipped. Phil and Gaynor were so helpful and flexible and the little touches like a cream tea and provisions waiting in the fridge for us were terrific. About 20 mins drive to Eden Project, 10mins from Mevagissey and 1mile walk ( lovely along the tow path) from The Ship Inn in the village centre makes this a little gem of a place to stay. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet location for a couple.

With a eight minute drive to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and 30 minutes to the Eden Project, Mevagissey provides a excellent location for the keen gardener. Gorran Haven nearby offers an alternative day out as well as Pentewan with its fresh water dock basin. You can continue south along the coast down to Caerhays Castle and Porthluney Cove. Cliff walks in all directions along the coast offer spectacular views out across the St Austell Bay.
  • Great Location. Accommodation comfortable and clean.

  • This was just what we needed for two for a week; we needed Friday to Friday and not many were available. Excellent views over the inner harbour. Quiet location, almost no traffic underneath, only occasional foot traffic immediately in front (probably a bit different in summer?). Not large but very comfortable. Nice to have a real bath after a wet walk. Very narrow and quite steep stairs; no worry for us but could be a problem for some. Electric hob very basic old-fashioned style but quite adequate. The wifi key was not visible and asking the 'host' Richard said I should ask the housekeeper which wasn't as helpful as it should have been. I didn't bother as we had good 4G reception and a goody bag with plenty of data, and I think it unlikely the housekeeper would have known; it doesn't strike me as part of their role. If you really need wifi double-check details before booking. Richard is not really the host, but agent for cornwallscottages, but in his role as host as far as Airbnb is concerned he should have been more helpful.

  • This cottage is even prettier in real life than it is in the photos, and that's saying something! We came here directly after our wedding, hoping for a quiet, relaxing few days on the Cornish coast, and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Richard sent very detailed and easy-to-follow instructions very early on, which was extremely helpful, especially given how busy we were before leaving. The house itself couldn't be better located - the sea, the harbour and the town all just a few steps away - but also extremely quiet and peaceful. It is beautifully furnished, very clean and cosy. The town itself is lovely, with plenty to do nearby and the coastal path easily accessible. All in all we had a wonderful few days and would recommend this to anyone.

  • This cottage was the perfect break away from the stress of everyday life. The cottage itself is very beautiful with lots of character. It is perfectly located on the harbour with stunning views and easy walking distance to the pubs / restaurants. This cottage was so good we will definitely be back again.

  • Has a wonderful week long stay in the beautiful Mevagissey. The cottage is very quaint and in a perfect location. The view of the working harbour is exceptional. The cottage has everything you could need. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to use. Comfy bed, good storage space just outside. The bath was great and the shower too. We loved having a real fire in December. There was even wifi, which we weren't expecting! There is a fairly steep climb to the cottage, so anyone with mobility issues may want to consider this. But in less than a minute you can be at the harbour side. The car had to be parked across the harbour, about 3/4 km away, but a pleasant walk looking at the boats and shops (and seagulls!) even in the rain. Easy to unload and load your luggage just below the cottage, but may be a little trickier at the height of tourist season. We have stayed in Meva on several occasions, but this is our new favourite place to stay and we will be back. There was even a very lovely ginger cat who invited himself in, which we were very pleased about! Such a friendly chap. We shall give him full marks on Catadvisor. (His name is Willow or 'The Harbour Master' and he belongs to a woman called Molly who lives up the road! There is also Ralph, a black cat, who is also a great local feline!)

  • Had a really great couple of days at the cottage. Fantastic location a short walk from everything you need. The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need. The only thing I struggled with was the mixer taps on the shower! Parking was easy even in the middle of August!

    Cindy2018-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the cottage are absolutely lovely. It helps that Mevagissey is still a working fishing village. It makes it more interesting. The cottage is really funky. It's been carved into the rocks and as such the walls follow how the place was carved out. Namely, the walls are not square and instead tend to be curved in places. Otherwise the place is very comfortably and had everything we needed. I would certainly stay there again if we were to return to Mevagissey.

  • Due to work commitments I was not able to do on the trip as planned. However, I sent my parents in my stead and they had a wonderful time. They loved the location ("it's like living in the sea") and very much enjoyed the house, saying it had everything you can think of and was lovely and clean and comfortable. I look forward to trying it myself another time.

  • One of the best! The location is outstanding! The host is great. She took care of specific details👍

    Shankar2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This property has some of the best sea views to offer around the st Austell area, the property is very clean and has everything we needed for a fantastic family break. Charlestown itself is a wonderful iconic place, we are always quick to recommend a trip here.

  • Just to clarify, this review is not actually for the property "Salamander" although it was this property that we booked. However, due to an AirBnB admin error, this property was actually unavailable but Margaret promptly offered us her other property next door, "Beach Retreat", for which I am writing this review. "Beach Retreat" is absolutely fabulous and we couldn't have stayed anywhere more perfect. Beautiful new property, very private and in the most superb location. An upside down property, the sea views from the kitchen/diner and lounge areas are breathtaking. Add to that - great facilities, super comfy beds, lovely shower rooms and the bonus of an allocated parking space almost outside the door. The beach is right in front of the property and there are great cafes/restaurants within 2 minutes walking distance. This is an absolutely perfect holiday haven and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Everything you would expect from an Airbnb and additional touches such as - local restaurant for breakfast and lunch - friendly ducks around the property - free access to the pinetum gardens - exceptional service offered compared to other airbnbs we have stayed at I would say if anyone is staying near St Austell or seeing Eden project...stay at this gem of a place!!

  • We really love this place. A stunning location on the old harbour. The studio has been decorated to the highest standards. It is immaculately clean, quiet and comfortable. Antonia and David were brilliant hosts and were extremely helpful. We will definitely return and would recommend it without hesitation.

  • The studio is sparkling clean and full of all the amenities one needs, a lovely rain shower and comfortable bed. The weather was wet during out stay so didn't get a chance to enjoy the garden but it looked like a lovely spot to hang out in the sunshine. Look forward to our next visit in the spring or summer!

  • Great accommodation. Super clean and modern with lovely finishing touches. Located right next to the harbour and beach. Great restaurants and pubs with a lovely friendly atmosphere. A must stay place if you want to experience local Cornish life. Highly recommend.

  • The Studio is perfect! Situated at the heart of the little harbour of Charlestown, it is beautifully decorated and full of thoughtful little touches. I’d recommend the breakfast box - again, beautifully presented and well thought out. We had dinner at the Longstore on Antonia’s recommendation and would recommend it anyone staying. We had a lovely walk up the coastal path in the morning which took us to some beautiful beaches and secluded views. It really was a wonderful experience and we hope to be back next year!
