“The stairway that leads from the city center to the famous church of Trsat, were built in the 16th century by the captain of Klis during the Turks invasion, Petar Kružić. Initially is counted 128 stairs, but in the 18th century it was rebuilt to its current look, being the most popular way for pilgrims who often climb them on their knees to receive the absolution from the Virgin Mary of Trsat. Although the official data says there are 561 stairs, according to the popular legend, the stairs are cursed, so no one can count the exact number of them. ”
