“If you're an avid reader like me then this place will not disappoint. 4 glorious stories of used book heaven on Earth. Ah, the free smells! Take one of the oldest elevators in Michigan... they also have antiques and old maps in the back if Mr. King or his very knowledgeable wife are around to let you in the back building. Another spot I hold dear to my heart in the D!”

Bookstore
“Midtown has changed drastically with revitalization, but this African-American-owned bookstore has been a constant, serving the neighborhood since 2002. The whole front of the store is glass, so it’s well-lit, but the best way to describe the setting is dark and dreamy, with twinkle lights. It’s starry in there. Janet Jones, the owner. She knows everything about everything, and she takes lots of time with every customer. The selection is mostly nonfiction and very Detroit-centric. She focuses on books with a connection to the city—and that includes fiction, too.”
