Places to stay in Donhead Saint Mary
Our cosy Studio for 2 nestles on the edge of woodland, yet only 5 mins away from Shaftesbury in Dorset. Wake up to bird song, go for long walks right from the door step, explore many nearby attractions, enjoy a meal or drink on the private terrace. It is possible to have a third person staying. Please indicate 3 people when booking and we will make an airbed, bedding and towels available. There is a charge of £15 per night for a third person. Please be aware that the place is small!
This self contained, modern & comfortable studio annex as its own entrance with private terrace and outdoor space. The property sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty, nestled on the hillside on the edge of ancient woodland. The property is set in 1 acre of wildlife gardens in a quiet hamlet just 5 minutes drive from the historic hill town of Shaftesbury on the border between Dorset and Wiltshire. We are located about 1.5miles outside Shaftesbury in a small hamlet on the edge of the woods. The Studio has a very comfortable King size bed (5 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long – 150 x 198 cm), well equipped kitchenette, sitting & dining area, a quite small shower room with basin and toilet, and a walk-in wardrobe/storage. Ideal for walking holidays and short breaks. The studio is well located if you want to visit the End of the Road Festival or Larmer Tree Festival. The kitchenette is well equipped, including full size fridge with freezer compartment, oven with grill, 2 plate induction hob, kettle, toaster and extractor fan. The Studio is ideal for individual travellers, close friends or couples (we welcome all couples!). We're also happy to accommodate parents with babies, but you will need to bring your own cot. Please note that children need to be supervised in the garden! There is a 42" TV with Freesat and DVD player, free Wifi Internet connection (although this can sometimes be slow or disrupted because of our rural location - we can therefore not guarantee the internet service) and stereo speakers for plugging in your iPod or MP3 Player. A selections of DVDs, games and books are available. Outside is a picnic table. You can view the many different birds on the bird feeders, stroll around the wild gardens or sit in one of several quiet benches around the garden. Please note that we basically live in the woods, so there is no view from the Studio terrace. However, guests are welcome to stroll to the end of the garden and enjoy some views from the bench. There is a well stocked village store only 2 miles away in the village of Ludwell, a small grocery store at the petrol station 1 mile away. In Shaftesbury you will find a large Tesco superstore and a lovely town centre with interesting shops and cafés including some very nice food shops. There's a market on Thursday mornings. Shaftesbury is famous for its Gold Hill (from the Hovis Bread ad), it's Abbey, historic buildings and the amazing views across the Blackmore Vale. Salisbury is only 35mins drive to the east and Bath an hour north. An hours drive will also get you to some of the most stunning beaches of the Jurrasic Coast. We have created our house and the Studio as environmentally friendly as possible. We have solar panels to help heat the water and Solar PV to generate electricity. Rainwater is collected and feeds the toilets in the house. We use environmentally friendly cleaning materials and recycle and compost. Please help by separating your recyclables from normal household rubbish. The Studio is extremely well insulated and has central heating. Please note: both the central heating and hot water are heated by an air source heat pump. This is a very efficient and low energy system but works on low temperatures. Therefore please wait 10 minutes between showers, as there may otherwise not be enough hot water available. Similarly the central heating does work on low heat, therefore please don't expect the radiators to be piping hot. The temperature in the Studio should always be comfortable. If not, please let us know as the settings may need adjusting. What makes our place unique is the location. You will be right at the edge of the woods. Deer and badgers sometimes visit the garden and we have an abundance of different birds including Woodpeckers, Long Tail Tits, Jays, Song Thrushes and Bull Finches. You will find some wonderful walks (short and long) right on your doorstep. Yet we are only a 5 minute drive from Shaftesbury, Dorset which has an good selections of independent shops & cafés and a large Tesco. You can park free in Tesco carpark for 3 hours and walk into town from there. The Jurassic Coast (Poole, Studland, Weymouth) or Bath are within an hours drive. We run a non-smoking property, but you are welcome to smoke outside. Just leave your cigarette butts in the receptacle provided outside your entry door. We have a dog ourselves, so know how difficult it is to find accommodation that allows dogs. As the Studio is only a one-room accommodation, it is not suitable for large dogs. But if you do want to bring a small dog, please ask and we will consider it. A surcharge of £5 per night for bringing a dog applies. We also have a cat, Misty. She's basically an outdoor cat, but she likes to manipulate guests to let her into the Studio. You should know this if you're allergic to cats, as we cannot guarantee that the Studio doesn't contain allergens. Also if you do not want her in your room, just chuck her out and keep the windows open only a small gap at night, as otherwise you might receive an unwanted visitor.
My favourite thing about living here is that one can go on walks from 30 minutes to 3 hours through the most glorious country side and woodlands right from our door step. Guests always comment on how well they sleep here because it is so quite and how they like being woken up by bird song. You really are in the midst of nature, yet only a 5 minute drive away from Shaftesbury on the Dorset/Wiltshire border. You can walk into town if you wish. It will take you approximately 40-45 minutes through fields and woodland. Salisbury is a 40 mins and day-trips can be taken to Bath, Stourhead, Poole, Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast.
  • I enjoyed my few days away in the comfortable and peaceful space of the eco hideaway. It is beautifully put together, with modern fittings and views looking out on the garden. The town of Shaftesbury is close by, and I especially loved Park Walk. Gabriela and Neil are friendly and responsive hosts who I would highly recommend. Thank you again for a lovely stay!

Our lovely double height wood and stone barn directly opposite our house is found at the end of a long private drive in glorious countryside. A very comfortable 5ft bed, woodburning stove and lovely views, a perfect relaxing and cosy retreat. Easy access to lots of interesting places. Guests can play tennis and croquet. The Barn sleeps two adults. Ample parking directly next to Barn. Please note the Barn is not suitable for children. NB There are no shops or pubs within walking distance.
The Barn is set at the end of a long drive, well away from any road, in a private 33 acre estate, no noise, no light pollution, just peace and quiet. Although directly opposite the main house, it is quite private. High ceilings, french windows with country views, kingsize double bed (on mezzanine accessed by quite steep stairs), wood burning stove, oak dining table with candles, WIFI (not super fast or that strong), TV DVD player - everything you need for a comfortable weekend or longer stay. It is not a hi-tech/spec barn but it is comfy and in a beautiful setting. Parking directly next to the Barn. Well situated for visits to Bath, Salisbury, the Jurassic Coast, Gold Hill, the new Hauser & Wirth gallery/restaurant in Bruton, Longleat, and much more. Fantastic walking and cycling country. Adjacent to Copse View alpaca walking as seen on Countryfile! One king bed on the mezzanine level in the Barn. Shower with constant hot water. Private BBQ area Tennis Court Croquet Lawn Clay pigeon shooting (extra cost) We are happy to collect guests from nearby railway station at Gillingham, Dorset (where there is Waitrose/Lidl/Asda). Bear in mind nearest pub would then be 30 mins walk. Beautiful unspoilt countryside - watch the deer and buzzards from the windows - and lots of good pubs nearby. Excellent access to lots of lovely places - Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Stourhead, Jurassic Coast. Bed made up with 100% Egyptian cotton linen, towels provided. Gas rings, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine. NB The steps to mezzanine are quite steep. No bath, only a shower. NB There is wifi but being in the country it is not strong enough to download movies etc
  • The barn is a lovely space in a great location and with fabulous facilities. We spent our weekend hiding away from 'Storm Dennis' and the wood burner and full kitchen made all the difference. We'd have no hesitation in recommending to future guests and we'll definitely be returning. Many thanks Cara.

  • Super space. Lovely wood burner. Peaceful and quiet.

  • We had a wonderful time here. Great location and welcoming hosts.

    Anna2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A place of ultimate relaxation and switch off. We had a wonderful time at Cara’s barn, and would definitely recommend a visit!

    Joan2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet location. Chance to spot wildlife if you're interested, e.g. rabbits, birds, deer. Reccomend to bring wellies/boots to enjoy the surrounding fields despite wet weather

    Jarrett2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location. Wonderful barn conversion. Beautifully renovated and with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Would highly recommend.

    Cavell2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t recommend the barn highly enough! What a delightful space to get some peace and quiet. It’s beautiful and secluded and basically a perfect base for exploring an awesome corner of England. Make sure to take advantage of the wood burning stove and if you’re into it - the clay pigeon shooting on offer. It’s tricky but so much fun (after all there really aren’t enough places on Airbnb that give you access to a shotgun)

Wise Cottage is a 250 year old cottage with a boutique feel and sweeping views situated in a beautiful village near Shaftesbury, Dorset. The cottage sleeps four, 1 large master bedroom with a super kingsize bed and a small bedroom with adult bunks (plus a guest bed for a fifth guest). Well behaved dogs are welcome! Organic toiletries, bath robes, well equipped kitchen, wood burner, super fast Wifi, garden, beautiful walks straight out of the front door, use of local tennis club.
** Covid 19 update** We understand the concern you may have about a holiday now and the closure of pubs and restaurants. What we can say is that most of the wonderful eateries around us are offering a take away service, some of them with free delivery, and so you can enjoy restaurant quality food at home, or eaten in the garden (big table and benches). We have added some of our favourites in the 'other things to note' section. There are many National Trust places around us that are open and some are waiving entry fees. Wonderful walks straight out of the front door as well of course. There is a large sitting room with oak dining table and contemporary chairs, a well fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The main bedroom has an upholstered Super kingsize bed with Vi Spring mattress, high quality microfibre duvets and bed linens. The second bedroom has full size bunk beds. Polished wooden floors, Roger Oates runners, sisal flooring and soft Moroccan rugs make up the flooring in the cottage. The bathroom has a pressurised shower and bath. Plenty of towels are provided as well as an organic soaps and shampoo range. The bathroom is situated downstairs opposite the kitchen. The garden is situated up steps from the cottage, it is probably not easily accessed by anyone disabled or infirm. It is a cottage garden, not highly manicured but with wonderful views in every direction. A table and chairs and a barbecue and tongs are also provided. There is a side access to the garden and it is fenced, so will contain a not overly ambitious dog. There is complimentary use of local tennis courts at Pythouse Club, about a two mile drive from the cottage. Please bring your own raquets and balls! Wonderful Pythouse Walled Garden is minutes from the courts for coffees and lunches. The cottage has a Samsung 32" smart TV with all the catch up services as well as Netflix and Amazon, super fast broad band, a small office with desk. Mobile reception is good, but patchy in the downstairs rooms. There is a wood burner and kindling/logs for the first night or two (bags of logs and kindling are sold at the shop a few yards from the cottage), iPod dock, Roberts radio, smart TV, towels, high quality linen and bathrobes. The kitchen is fully equipped with all china and cutlery, pans, casserole dishes, salad bowls, a Nespresso coffee maker (with coffee capsules!) and there is a supply of tea bags, coffee, sugar, olive oil, flour, herbs and salt and pepper to start you off. We always leave a breakfast pack of fresh local bread, home made jam, butter and milk. A folding guest bed can be put up in the sitting room or master bedroom for a fifth person which is fine for a night or two, but unless a young child, it is not ideally suited for five people.
The cottage is set in the beautiful village of East Knoyle (birthplace of Sir Christopher Wren) on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, amid rolling scenery. The village has an award winning community shop (a few yards from the cottage) and an excellent pub, as well as a playground and endless footpaths through fields and woods for dog walking. You will have guest membership of our local tennis club at Pythouse, a couple of miles from the cottage. If you wish to explore the West Country there are few better places to be situated. The Georgian city of Bath is 20 miles away, Salisbury 17 miles, the hilltop town of Shaftesbury with it's famous monastery ruins and Gold Hill is 4 miles and the Jurassic coast an hour's drive. Longleat and Centre Parks is only 8 miles away. There are numerous stately homes (Longleat being the most famous), castles and gardens within easy striking distance, some a couple of miles from the cottage and superb gastro pubs and restaurants nearby. There is plenty of information in the cottage and suggestions of where to visit, where to eat and where to shop. Just an hour away is the New Forest which is great to explore on foot or by bike. There are maps in the house and you can rent bikes at the wonderfully helpful Forest Leisure Cycling in Burley where there are also loads of cafes, pubs & shops. Flying Experiences at Compton Abbas Airfield - from flying in vintage aircraft and driving classic cars to the airfield for champagne lunch... and flying lessons. Dorset Art Weeks: For two weeks every year (Typically end of May & beginning June) Artists all over Dorset open up their homes and studios to visitors to browse their work, learn about their techniques and inspiration and purchase direct from the artists themselves. There are also two extraordinary contemporary galleries with excellent cafes/restaurants nearby - Messums in Tisbury and Hauser and Wirth in Bruton - both definitely worth a visit.
  • Lovely little cottage in village only stated 2 nights but would have liked longer - recommended for peace and tranquility

    Vanessa2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely cottage, loved the little touches like fresh bread (amazing when we came in late and stressed from London), butter, milk and jam. Fireplace was just the ticket for a weekend away, and host was kind when we were a little tardy and reluctant to leave on Sunday. Recommended :)

  • A warm cosy cottage in a great location with a wonderful local village shop

    Sophie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • First stay in this delightful cottage and it didn’t disappoint. The lovely little additions of a welcome pack were wonderful and we also appreciated the Complementary shower gel, hand wash and hand cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cosy cottage and certainly want to return again. It was the perfect break just what we were looking for

    Les2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Would definitely recommend to others. Loved every minute of our stay. Vanessa's little extra touches made us feel really welcome. The cottage was so cosy and comfortable, and the local shop has everything you could ever need! :)

Our modern Eco Pod is set in it's own secluded wildlife garden area, giving a true nature experience with all the comforts for 2 people. Only 5 mins drive from Shaftesbury, Dorset, and 50 minutes from the Jurassic Coast. Superb country walks! It's normally set up with a king size bed. The Pod is tiny. Think of it as a two berth wooden caravan. It really just has the large bed, there is no table on the inside, but a small kitchen area with sink and hob.
The Pod is a small compact space built as an airtight structure that self regulates temperature and therefore is very comfortable. It's ideal for couples, close friends or one parent and child. It features a large bed (1.80m x 2.20) under a sloping ceiling, a small kitchenette with 2 burner hob and sink with hot & cold water. Please note that there is no table inside. There is literally just the bed and kitchenette. The kitchen is equipped with all essentials including kettle and toaster. You will also find Organic English Breakfast Tea, Organic Coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. There is decking on the outside which gets sunshine most of the day (when the sun shines). A few steps up is a Gazebo with a table and 2 chairs. This is a great space to have an al-fresco meal and watch the wildlife around the pond. There is a small cubicle with a compost toilet inside the Pod. Some people have commented that it is too small for a tall person to have the door closed. Please keep this in mind. Guests also have use of the separate unheated shower shed with hot water. Please note that during the Winter and early Spring the shower shed is not operating. In that case guests are welcome to use the shower in the main house. There is a summer house that houses a fridge freezer, a small oven, two camping chairs and space to store luggage or wet clothing/shoes. The Pod sits in it's own part of the garden, with 2 wildlife ponds. This creates a lovely, secluded garden area for our guests. You basically have your own little wildlife patch here. Ducks often visit the pond early in the morning. Look out for deer, badgers and pheasants. Because of the ponds our grounds are not suitable for small children.
The Pod is located in a small hamlet 1.5miles outside Shaftesbury, Dorset on the edge of ancient woodland. This is a quiet area and the most you will hear is the occasional dog barking, lawnmower or strimmer. However, don't be surprised to be woken by birdsong and to hear owls and other creatures at night. The local village store 'Ludwell Store and Postoffice' is approximately 1.5miles away and can be reached by foot, car or bicycle. The nearest pub is half a mile and the nearest supermarket 1.5 miles.
  • Kind hosts helped me out with a bit of olive oil to fry my supper!

  • Really thoughtful space, great for a quick getaway. Our hosts were lovely and very approachable!

    Yem2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The pod is really lovely and relaxing! The bed is really big and I had reservations about the compost toilet but it was actually really good!

    Saskia2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to escape into nature, the gorgeous secluded pod was just perfect for our requirements with the added benefit that it was completely eco friendly! We visited Stonehenge and Bath while we were there, only 40 mins and an hour respectively and also took a short trip to Salisbury and Shaftesbury, there is some wonderful culture and history surrounding this area. The pod itself was compact but still completely liveable for the 5 days we were there with a kitchenette in the pod and a fridge and shower just on the other side of the garden. We were most surprised with how warm it was without any heating, especially if you cook in there. The compost toilet was not as scary as we first thought and we got used to it very quickly, as long as your comfortable with hearing the other person going to the loo as it’s inside the pod! All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it if your wanting to completely switch off and be in nature:)

    Jody2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The pod is in a very secluded part of the property near two ponds. It is a lovely wild garden with lots of natural wildlife. We both had a lovely time and felt very at home at the pod. The pod itself is very clean and well thought out and it feels very cosy to sit there and watch the natural world around you.

This is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax and unwind, and we hope to be even more frequent visitors in 2020!

  • We stayed here for a short pre-Christmas break with our 2 children and 2 small dogs. The location is stunning and with the open fields right to the back of the property we were perfectly content there for 4 days with lots of walks and 'cosying' up in front of the log burner. Mary-Anne was a great host, making sure we had what we needed, we will definitely be staying here again. Thanks! :)

  • We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. This was our second visit, but this time with 2 adults and 2 kids. The cottage is great. It's set in countryside and gardens with roaming sheep. The bedrooms overlooks the fields and the panoramic views are amazing. The cottage is very well laid out, and ample space for a family of four, with 2 bedrooms a bathroom and an open plan kitchen and Lounge. I couldn't fault this cottage.

A homely 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom self contained holiday let on the Dorset / Wiltshire border. Perfect for rest, relaxation and as a base to explore the South West and the English Countryside.
The Farm has been in the family for 3 generations and The Bee House was a fond name for the building where our Grandfather kept his Bee Keeping supplies. Although completely 'Bee Free' now, we kept the name and tradition behind this 2015 renovated self catering cottage. The cottage is entirely self- contained. It's fully equipped with kitchen, linens and everything and anything you may need. We hope you feel that it's a home away from a home. We are next door (completely detached).. so will be there to check you in if required or answer any questions, otherwise you are entirely self contained. Nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside in the village of Semley, a few miles from the market town of Shaftesbury. It's perfectly situated to explore Dorset, Wiltshire and the South West of England. It's only a short 25 minute drive to Salisbury and Stonehenge or hop on a train and be in Central London within 2.5 hours. Tisbury Train Station is a 10 - 15 minute drive away (we can assist with taxis / pick ups if necessary) Please treat our house as a home away from home. When we're not doing Air BNB our family from out of town stay here.. so please consider yourself a friend with access to DVD's, board games, crib, childrens toys etc. We're happy to answer any questions or help with any needs while you're here. Need a ride / babysitter.. we're happy to accommodate, just let us know. Please note that when calculating your guest numbers - children occupying beds will be charged for at the nightly rate. • We stayed atJudi's place for 3 nights in February and had an absolutely amazing time. Despite of not the best weather the place provided everythig we wanted, piece, tranquility and outstanding views from the house. Judi welcomed us with a delicious lemon cake and lots of tips on what to do in the area. The place is very cosy and looks even better than on photos. View from the property is outstanding and you can enjoy it over a nice breakfast from the kitchen area or a glass of wine from the living room :) Car is definitely needed. There is a small local shop in 2 mins drive but the selection is limited. If you want to do bigger shopping you need to go to town (10 min). There are lots of nice walks around so you can explore nature and relax. Overall wonderful experience and highly recommended. Thank you Judi and Andre for your hospitality.

  • What a wonderful five-night stay we had at the Beehouse! We were met by Judi, who showed us around and provided lots of information about Semley and surrounds. The Beehouse is comfortable and spacious, with everything a family on holiday needs, including board games and children’s books. The bungalow has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a nicely appointed kitchen, dining room, spacious lounge and a fabulous outdoor area, which would be perfect in summer. Everything worked as it should, including flawless wi-fi. The Beehouse is surrounded by nature and silence - just wonderful! We spotted pheasants wandering about each morning. The bungalow is a mile or so from Semley village - a really lovely walk. Do visit the local cafe and the dairy. We walked to the Donheads (two local villages) along quiet country lanes (you could take walking tracks but in winter they are very muddy). There is a big Tesco in Shaftesbury (and other supermarkets) for your shopping needs. Finally, the Beehouse is perfectly located for drives further afield, for instance only 30 miles or so from Stonehenge. If you have time, consider walking to Stonehenge from Woodhenge, following the National Trust designated walk. It was an absolute highlight of our holiday.

  • Judi’s place is fantastic - very clean, tidy, and has everything you need including a great record collection. Very nice, peaceful location with nice views. Judi also made us a cake which was a nice touch. We would recommend staying there

  • Lovely accommodation is a really peaceful setting. Judi is lovely and cares about her guests - she even baked us a yummy lemon drizzle cake as a welcome! Would definitely consider coming again, thank you!

  • This is fantastic place with all needed facilities/amenities (and more) and breathtaking views! Location is also great! Judi is an amazing host, quick responder, kind and easy to communicate with. She even left milk and a home made cake to welcome us! We travelled with our 3 month old baby and he slept very well in the cot provided. We shall come back!

Converted stables next to main house standing in pretty private valley opposite large pond. 25 acres surround it with grazing sheep. Peaceful countryside with buzzards, wild birds and deer and only 1.7 miles from Shaftesbury's many shops, restaurants/pubs. You can watch ducks, divers and moorhen from your breakfast table - and occasionally otters as well. We do have a few carp and tench in the pond and guests are welcome to fish - but we do not provide any fishing equipment or rods etc.
The cottage contains two attractive bedrooms, one twin and one double (King-size bed). Each bedroom has its own modern en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath. There is a small cosy sitting room with dining area that has outstanding views of the pond and rolling hills and a tiny but well equipped kitchenette. There is also a good sized utility room/back kitchen with gas cooker, kitchen sink unit, normal sized gas oven and grill, small additional ovenette, dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator with icebox and iron/ironing board. Access to this room either through twin bedroom or via the garden. Full central heating and all radiators have individual thermostatic controls.
Dorset countryside at its best in the heart of Thomas Hardy country, with the ancient market town of Shaftesbury just 7 minutes away with its famous 'Hovis' Gold Hill and Shaftesbury Abbey museum in Abbey Walk. Great shopping with a mass of privately owned little shops of all sorts. Fun to explore. Includes a classic men's clothier and delightful boutiques including Cole and Cole - upmarket country clothes, as well as butchers, bakers, fruit and veg shops, florists, gift shops, jewellery shops and even a mini department store Hine and Parsons, Post office, Restaurants and much more. A street market once a week with a few stalls on Thursdays 9.00 am to 5.00 pm opposite Hine and Parsons and next to the Guild Hall and St Thomas's Church. Stalls include Fresh fish, cheeses, bread, plants, etc. Walk down attractive Park Walk near Costa Coffee and see stunning views towards us and the distant hills of South Dorset & the Blackmore Vale. Then head for the Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother's Garden - now being made a butterfly and bee paradise on the other side of the promontory. Here are fabulous views over towards Duncliffe Wood and Gillingham direction with benches to sit and ponder. Within 30 to 40 minutes drive are a wealth of activities including, Stonehenge (world heritage site), Stourhead Garden & House and lake (National Trust) is one of the greatest landscape gardens in the world creation of Banker Henry Hoare in 1740's on his return from the Grand Tour and planted with rare trees, Rhododendrons and Azaleas, with Pub, Cafe, excellent Gift Shop and Garden plants for sale there and pretty Church by the stunning Lake. Mainly flat walking and therefore good for wheelchairs and buggies. Salisbury with its magnificent Cathedral and tall spire 123 metres high, and it also has the Magna Carta - Salisbury Museum opposite with Early man, Roman and Saxon items housed in 17th-century rooms with some Turner watercolours, Longleat House, home of Lord Bath with famous Safari Park including naughty monkeys, Wimborne, with the quaint miniature 'Wimborne Model Town' and the very attractive Wimborne Minster Church with a very special Astronomical clock from the 14th C. Wimborne has lovely shops and tea rooms and cafes as well as a small theatre, Sherborne Old Castle once owned by Sir Walter Raleigh and close by is Sherborne New Castle and Garden centre, Beautiful Sherborne Abbey and pretty town of Sherborne with good shops. Montacute House (National Trust Elizabethan beauty completed in 1601) with amazing Long Gallery and pretty gardens (45 mins), and Athelhampton House a 15th century Country Manor House and gardens near Dorchester (34 mins , Dyrham Park (National Trust) (60 mins) near Bath, a magnificent 17th century Mansion House and Deer Park with historic herd of fallow deer roam across 270 acres and Arboretum, Inside the impressive mansion, built by hard-working civil servant William Blathwayt, discover fascinating interiors little changed in 300 years, as well as a rich collection that includes superb Dutch art and ceramics of the period. Then there is Bath!.... (Bath is 60 mins) a must if you haven't been there. I know somewhere very close to the centre of town where you can park. The fabulous Roman Baths are my absolute favourite but also visit the inspiring Bath Abbey (look up at the famous Vaulted ceiling) and walk to The Royal Crescent, as well as Bath's shops are superb. Have tea at Sally Lunn’s - it is much more than a world famous tea and eating house in Bath but also one of the oldest houses in Bath and home of the Bath Bun. More local to us is Old Wardour Castle ruin (22 mins & English Heritage) and a circular walk to The Foresters Pub and back is recommended for those who like long walks (walk takes 2 hours there and back from car park at either end). The Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford, For children visit the Bison Centre at West Knoyle (21 mins) with lots of farm animals and pets corner as well as the Bison - buy bison burgers or meat etc from farm shop there, or visit the Larmer Tree Pleasure Gardens at Tollard Royal with children's trails. Blandford Forum (19 mins from us) has the Royal Signals Museum, and the Hall and Woodhouse Brewery Centre, and the Blandford Fashion Museum and just outside Blandford is the Shillingstone Railway Project (16 mins) - it is well worth going. There is a steam engine, various railway carriages, the original platforms and station buildings, and a great cafe. But above all, you get to meet a really great crew of volunteers, who are dramatically and rapidly transforming the station and track. Please check all websites for opening times.
  • Had a lovely 4 night stay at Janeys cottage. It was the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle but be close enough to a town to grab any bits you need. Lovely little lake outside the cottage and we enjoyed a row on the boat and my 18month old enjoyed chasing the chickens, ducks and watching the pheasants in the morning. Janey had left a fab file of things to do around the area and thoughtful touches - eggs, wine, bread, milk, butter, fresh flowers. Sadly we weren't well, so didn't mange to go out and do much but did go to a church service in the local village Fontmell magna and they were a wonderfully welcoming congregation. Thank you for a much needed pieceful break!

    Niamh2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is well decorated and clean with good heating and plentiful hot water. The two bedrooms have comfortable beds and adequate storage. There is a small front kitchen and a larger rear kitchen/utility room. The lounge/dining room overlooks the lake. The location is peaceful and beautiful. Janey is a kind and helpful host who clearly enjoys meeting her guests. The milk, bread, butter, eggs, wine and crisps she provided for us were just the job for the first night. We really enjoyed our stay and would like to return in the near future.

    Michael2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our retreat with beautiful scenery. The cottage was cozy and warm with a stunning view of the stars at night. Myself and my friends had a fantastic time and would definitely return sometime again.

    Syed2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cottage is in a great location, rural but only a short drive from Shaftesbury. It's an added bonus to be able to walk in some of the fields surrounding the cottage. Janey is a great host, quick communication and helpful, there were also plenty of food essentials left in the cottage, plus a few treats! Cottage was cozy and warm, even in mid December!

    Ben2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very helpful host, great communication. Left us bread, fresh eggs from her hens, wine and crisps. Beautiful setting. Enjoyed exploring the pond and hills. Lovely cottage with comfy beds and good variety of kitchen equipment. All guests had a really nice stay and would come back again.

    Miranda2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Janey is a fantastic and attentive host and it was great to spend a couple of nights at the cottage this half term. It was lovely to stay in such a cosy place and Janey welcomed us with great local tips and a few added extras which was really well appreciated. It is a lovely quiet location complete with its own private lake! Shaftesbury is only a 5 minute drive away and a is a lovely little town. Dorset is well worth a visit and the cottage is a great location to explore the county from. We hope to be back in the summer where we can enjoy more of the local area and the lake next to the cottage too!

    Amanda2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Janey's cottage was the perfect home for our weekend in Dorset. It is quiet, really cosy, has a nice view on the lake, and is perfectly located to walk around Melbury Hill or visit Shaftesbury. Plus Janey was a great host, and really made us feel at home. Thanks again so much!

  • We had an amazing family trip at Janey’s property. Outstanding hospitality and a delightful property perfect get away. The boating lake and wildlife walks were a very special touch to our break. Great communication, very welcoming and a lovely host. Thank you Janey

Newly fitted out to a high standard. Kitchenette, wet room with WC, living room/diner and bedroom with double bed, perfect for a couple or lone traveller. Please note ceilings are low on one side of building with kitchen and wet room. The Saxon hill top town is within 15 minutes walking distance with the famous Gold Hill, Abby Ruins and Park Walk with stunning views over the Blackmore Vale. Off road private parking in carport. On main routes in and out of town. Some traffic noise.
Formally a double garage converted into a comfortable self contained living space with everything you’ll need for a pleasurable stay. Private from the main house with covered parking right outside the front door.
We are walking distance from the small but vibrant high street of Shaftesbury. The town has monthly markets and a great fringe festival in the summer months.
  • We had a lovely weekend stay here. The space is clean, cosy, and well kitted out for its size. Only one note I would add is the ceilings are quite low so you might find yourself ducking if you're a giant like myself, should be fine for all normal sized people though! Would recommend the place to others.

    Peter2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, as other have said- don't underestimate the steps. Getting your stuff down is easy but dragging it back up again was more difficult. Nice to have an oven and washing machine to use should we of needed too and a fridge! Fully read the directions from Louis, took us about 4 attempts going up and down the road continually turning around to find the turning. The image on Google maps is a lie haha other than that absolutely beautiful!!

    Ruby2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Retreat was a perfect find for us as a base to explore the area a little on a short break. Louis was a very welcoming host and his set up has been very thoughtfully put together, providing home from home comforts. We certainly hope to return again!

  • What’s a place, where to start... Louis welcomed us in person and showed us the accommodation, the communication was perfect from the start to the end. You’ll be amazed by the driveway and the garden, and nothing can beat the view!!! We’ve enjoyed our stay so much, the cat Jess and the dog Dora have shown us the best hospitality in Dorset!! We enjoyed playing with them before going for our adventure! The location is perfect if you want to explore Dorset and Wiltshire! There are a few lovely pubs around, we have tried The Grove Arms where they do yummy food in big portions! The accommodation itself is clean and comfortable, Louis even provided a welcome pack! Thank you Louis for our lovely stay!! Highly recommended this place to anyone who would like to explore the beautiful surroundings!!

    Mathew2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Well appointed self contained accomodation. Beautifully clean and lovely garden to enjoy.

    Rebecca2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb experience! We were impressed. Spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need and a lovely welcome pack. There are a few steps to apartment but they're not too steep and there are handrails. The little courtyard off the bedroom is cute and when the sun is shining it's lovely to sit there with a cuppa! Louis's garden is very pretty with beautiful views. Ah and Louis's little dog is very sweet and incredibly well behaved.

  • We stayed here the night of our wedding (which we held locally); it was totally perfect - a beautifully converted garden loft with views from the bed straight across a garden and to an area of trees and the open sky. All facilities, coffee, fridge, good shower, thoughtful breakfast. Can't recommend enough!

    Joseph2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We can thoroughly recommend staying at the Sparrow's Nest, Philippa was an obliging host who went out of her way to make us feel at home (even after arriving late with a hungry baby!). The accomodation itself was furnished beautifully, spotlessly clean and we were provided with all the necessary amenities. A delicious spread was offered for breakfast, including fresh raspberries, croissants and apple juice from the local orchard. Our only regret is not staying long enough to enjoy the surrounding countryside! We hope to stay again and would recommend to those wishing to stay in the area.

    Harry2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay. The location is beautiful, we went for a lovely walk and ended up drinking the local cider in the pub next door. Philippa went above and beyond and kindly gave us a lift to the wedding we were going to as there were limited taxis in the area. The bed is really comfy and the garden beautiful to enjoy your breakfast.

  • If you’re looking for a perfect place to stay in a superb location then look no further than The Annex in Shaftesbury. Ruth and Dennis have equipped The Annex to an extremely high standard. It was a pleasure to come home after a day’s exploring and relax in the comfortable, quiet and spacious accommodation. They provided milk , tea, coffee and biscuits to get us started .. and a beautifully wrapped box of chocolates for my birthday. A lovely touch! The Annex is an easy walk into Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill. Check out the Shaftesbury Arts Centre for a variety of entertainment. Only a short drive is Sherborne... what a town! ... and of course the Dorset coast. We will certainly visit again. Thank you Ruth and Dennis.

In beautiful countryside, this is a newly built cottage on the site of our old Tractor Shed close to our farmyard. Comfortable & cosy. Wander around our farm & garden. Excellent local pubs. Watch the stars. Fantastic place to chill. Organic farm and we sell our own grass fed Red Poll beef and eggs from our wandering chickens.
A modern rebuild of our old Tractor Shed on our organic farm, deep in the county of Wiltshire and near to Stonehenge, Salisbury, Bath and the south coast. If you like the countryside, you will like it here! There's lots to do tourist wise in the area and fantastic walks nearby through this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (official designation!). The accommodation is very comfortable with a 5 foot double bed, ensuite shower room, living room with kitchen area and outside terrace. It has underfloor central heating so is cosy throughout the winter. We have a herd of Red Poll cattle here and chickens roam freely in our fields, barns and woodland. If you like fishing, we have our own trout lake for your use at an extra charge of £30 per half day. If you are part of a bigger party than 2 people, we also have a 3 double bedroomed apartement and another 1 bedroomed one in our lovely garden. We also have bed and breakfast in our 17th century farmhouse. We are busy with the farm and animals but enjoy welcoming guests to this magical spot. If you want to eat out, there are several excellent pub restaurants within 5 miles and Shaftesbury with its many eating places and markets is just 6 miles away. Unfortunately, being right out in the countryside means you need your own transport though there is a main line from London train station at Tisbury 3 miles away.
Cools Farm is in the depths of the Wiltshire countryside. Lots of people pass down to the West Country on the A303 and miss out on this beautiful area. Yet, we are very accessible 4 miles south of A303 and 3 miles from mainline station at Tisbury. We love looking after our cattle and living in a lovely C17th stone farmhouse. We enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with interesting guests.
  • Comfortable stay, beautiful location - very happy here!

  • Lovely quaint accommodation, everything you need for a few days away . The Lamb ( Hindon ) was very good for food . Lovely to hear the cows and cockerel in the mornings . Would definitely stay again

    Tracey2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying at Cools Farm for a wedding. The bed was extremely comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped (we bought two steaks from the farm for dinner one evening) and Maggie was very helpful, lending us an iron when we needed one. I recommend paying extra for breakfast - it was delicious.

  • Highly recommended for the peace and quiet. The mattress is extremely comfortable. It's a perfect base for visiting the area. We would definitely stay again.

Cosy and private well-equipped loft space in a rural setting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Historic sites, excellent walking routes and countless country pubs are easily accessible. This warm, comfortable and stylishly decorated studio guest suite, with a separate entrance, sits above a detached garage looking up towards the family home. The house is in a tranquil 4 acre plot with fields and a barn and lovely views from your personal raised sundeck.
Come and go as you please via the private terrace - also great for breakfasts or sundowners al fresco - with parking space underneath. There is a small anteroom for coats and boots, also the home of the kitchenette, which opens through to the main space. There’s a double bed, table, sitting area and modern bathroom with shower. In the ‘ kitchenette area’, you have the use of a Bosch Tassimo coffee machine, small fridge, kettle, microwave and mini electric oven. There is no hob or sink so it's only suitable for breakfast and snacks.
Tisbury is just 10 minutes off the A303, and once you are here local towns are within easy access. You are 15 minutes from Shaftesbury, home of the famous Gold Hill, and 20 minutes’ drive from Salisbury where you can see Stonehenge, Old Sarum and the 123m cathedral spire, particularly famous in Russia. Tisbury station is also on the main south-west trainline from London to Exeter.

Bill and Fiona converted the barn, which was originally part of the Grosvenor Estate, some twenty years ago. Nestled on the northern slopes of Shaftesbury, it is ideal for a short stay to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding Dorset/Wiltshire countryside. The guest room is located on the ground floor and accessed by a private entrance. A parking space is available in the courtyard.
The guest room has a small area for preparing food with a microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, china, glasses and cutlery. Please note that it does not have a full cooker or washing up facilities. Fiona and Bill are very happy to put these items in their dishwasher for you. Tea and coffee supplied along with complimentary selection of cereals, bread, milk, butter and marmalade. The bathroom has a good sized shower supplied with a selection of toiletries and towels. The king size bed is made by Hypnos and is firm. For those with allergies or who are nervous of animals we do have two large and one small dog. They are in a separate part of the house and are not allowed in the guest room or the courtyard. They may however bark on your arrival as they like to say hello and tell us that you are here!
Shaftesbury is an Anglo-Saxon hilltop down famous for Gold Hill (where the original Hovis advert was filmed), there is also the ruins of an abbey founded by Alfred the Great and a small museum, along with a good selection of cafes. Nearby is Stourhead (National Trust), Wardour Castle (English Heritage) and other places of interest.

  • You will be made to feel very welcome and Fiona was very helpful with the local area, and it's very comfortable and quiet in a great location too

    Suzanne2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona's place is truly wonderful. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and it was a spotlessly clean, beautifully designed space. The bed is super comfy and everything you could possibly need is provided, including bread, butter, jam and cereals and milk and plenty of tea and coffee. There is a lovely kitchen area behind cabinet doors which includes a kettle, toaste, microwave and fridge which was more than adequate. The guest suite is attached to Fiona's barn, about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Shaftesbury in a lovely quiet spot. Fiona was very responsive to all our enquiries and very flexible with check in times and even was kind enough to drop us to the train station on our departure day. Thank you Fiona for such a wonderful restful couple of days away!

    Lisa2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful room with everything that you need including kettle, fridge and microwave with a selection of teas, coffee and breakfast foods. Fiona and her husband were very charming. Thoroughly recommend a stay.

    Lesley2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Attention to detail and a genuinely welcoming host. Parking space was right outside the airbnb, which was such a relief. Appreciated the fresh local bread and well stocked fridge. It was lovely to return home to warm radiators, when the weather turned suddenly cold. A very special stay for me and my daughter.

    Tracy2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Bill went much further than the 'extra mile' to accommodate my elderly parents - the room is easy access for a wheelchair user and the 2 night stay went really well and they both felt relaxed and comfortable. Definitely 5 stars in all categories !

    Katie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! It’s spacious and has loads of character, and has to be one of the nicest places I stayed using Air B&B. The Hosts are very friendly and helpful. The addition of breakfast items is a real bonus, as is also the good WiFi signal. Plus there is a small garden area and parking on site too. The shower was great and the bed very comfortable. Thoroughly recommending this place to anyone needing a stylish place to stay when visiting Dorset.

The room is an airy attic room with a comfy double bed and hanging space and a view over the village to the countryside. The bathroom is shared with the host.
The room is at the top of the house (2 flights up) with fairly steep stairs but good handrails. Please note that the bathroom/shower is one floor down. There is a good provision of essentials (including things you may have forgotten) and there are tea and coffee making facilities. A small selection of crockery/cutlery and glassware is also provided ....including a bottle opener/corkscrew. The table is a good size for either working or dining. There is also a small ironing board and iron, hairdryer, chargers and fan. The house is approximately 5mins from the High Street with a good selection of shops and eating places. This is a cat friendly house but they do not have access to the upper floors.
Tisbury is a wonderful village with plenty of shops and a prestigious gallery. In the summer months we have an open air pool which is a short walk away. It is well placed for exploring many historic sites and houses and only 17miles from Salisbury and 50mins from the nearest coastline.
  • A comfortable, cozy and attractive room. Everything from arrival to departure was easy and pleasant.

  • The attic room is very cozy and well organised. It has everything you need with even a board game, a music box to connect with your mobile and funny books. Tracy took care for some cute details like a poem of the day and cups for a warm drink-on-the-go. The room is silent, Tisbury is picturesque and quiet with enough places to eat and shop. Tracy was so attentive to check in advance which restaurants were open. We had a nice dinner at The Boot Inn. Shortly: we felt welcome and at home

  • Sue is such a warm and lovely host. When I first arrived she made me tea and we chatted for a while and she offered some local tips. She also puts out a very nice spread for breakfast. The house is incredibly beautiful and charming. It’s a great base to explore Shaftesbury and the surrounding area. I highly recommend it.

  • Sue is a wonderful host, warm, friendly and very welcoming. Sue’s cottage is quaint, comfortable and ideally located for wandering in Shaftesbury and enjoying walks in the local area. Communication from Sue was great prior to our arrival and it really did seem that nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast to set us up for a day of walking and really enjoyed visiting a local art gallery that Sue had suggested & lunch in a nearby pub. It was great to stay with someone who has been a local for a long time and could give us really useful tips for our short stay.

    Adele2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a delightful cottage, situated in a historic building, quiet yet close (walking distance) to Gold Hill and town. We loved the cottage decor, ambiance and Sue's art and we had a super stay. • A very nice, albeit short stay, with just about everything I could need on hand, including toiletries, clean towels and a plethora of drinks and nibbles. Sue was an amazing host, and as an ex Shastonion I spent over an hour discussing the local sights and history. I wouldn't hesitate one bit to use her services again.

The vintage hideaway is a self contained annexe attached to my house. It is light airy and comfortable, you have a bed sitting room , kitchenette and shower room. There is access from the bedroom to a seating area on the deck at the back over looking an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house is close to lovely walks and the historic town of Shaftesbury with a variety of cafes , individual shops and pubs, and of course Gold Hill.
The area of Cranborne Chase to the south and east of the house is currently awaiting international dark sky reserve status for the star gazing enthusiasts. There is also a small airfield locally offering wing walking! and a great lunch.
  • Would highly recommend Jo's place. Cosy and quirky with great views - the ideal hideaway! We also took advantage of the massage from Jessie which was great. Thank you

  • Our stay at Jo's will always be special to us. We got engaged just before arriving at Jo's for the evening. We decided against going out for a fancy meal, and instead ordered a take-away to The Vintage Hideaway (there's only one that would deliver to the location but it was delicious!) and played a board game (our own). It was the most perfect evening, made even more perfect by being completely off grid due to lack of phone signal. The view from the bedroom was absolutely spectacular, even on the overcast day we stayed. The croissants were an adorable touch and we loved having those in bed the following morning admiring the view. The only thing to be aware of is the complete lack of phone signal, it's great if that is what your looking for but the WiFi was also pretty rubbish, only getting signal right by the front door. Despite the poor signal and WiFi, we absolutely loved our stay at The Vintage Hideaway and we will, for sure, be back!!

  • We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at Jo's place- what a beautiful find!! Jo was fantastic at communicating and was very accommodating with our last minute changing of timings when visiting for our friends wedding. Her directions were clear and easy to follow (even in the dark!). The vintage hideaway is lovely and all the thoughtful little touches were very much appreciated. It's a shame we didn't have the best weather to enjoy the beautiful terrace area but the views are amazing. Would highly recommend- thanks for a great stay.

  • Jo’s place was beautiful and in a lovely location. She was really welcoming and had great advice for places to visit in the area. There were lots of lovely extra touches, the croissants left for breakfast were particularly appreciated! We would definitely stay again.

My cottage is tucked away within walking distance of the centre of Shaftesbury in Dorset. It's near the site of the historic Shaftesbury Abbey, Park Walk with it’s views over the rolling Dorset countryside, Gold Hill - made famous by the much loved 1970s Hovis Bread TV commercial - and the hospital. The cottage makes an excellent base from which to explore the borders of beautiful Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset, where the countryside, walking, cycling and dining out opportunities are fantastic.
Great for couples, friends, colleagues, individual travellers or for a small family. The space is a characterful little cottage that comprises a double bedroom upstairs with ensuite facilities, plus a cosy single bedroom at ground level that has ensuite facilities too. The single bedroom leads off the kitchen, it’s really quite small, and is all the better for it! In the double bedroom, there is just enough space to set-up a travel cot as well. Each ensuite has an electric shower and toilet, I must stress that the cottage does not have baths. A cosy living room with underfloor heating and a log burner plus a bright kitchen complete the piece. Facilities include an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washer / dryer. There is a small freezer compartment in the fridge plus a range of cooking implements, crockery and glasses. A Smart TV with terrestrial channels and wifi broadband connectivity allow you to keep in touch with the outside world. A parking space is available at the cottage and it’s perfect for cars. Large vehicles, such as camper vans, will need to be parked in a pay-and-display public car park which is near the town centre and within walking distance - this is as the lane to the cottage is narrow with a few bends. Finally, a few words of caution… the cottage is cosy and has low ceilings in some areas, so taller guests will need to bear this in mind. Those over 6ft / 1800mm will need to stoop (or adopt suitable protective measures!). Please also check out the cottage Instagram account @twolovelaneshaftesbury to get a feel for the cottage atmosphere :-)
Guests enjoy a quiet location tucked in amongst other cottages in a conservation area with town centre amenities which are within a short, level walk. Great cafés, restaurants and public houses are close by and the town hosts events throughout the year, including markets and festivals for both food and arts.
  • Cosy and quaint cottage in a great location. Leah is a fantastic host and would thoroughly recommend. We’re already planning a return trip.

  • Five Stars do not come near the actual experience of this truly special and idyllic sanctuary in the middle of Shaftesbury. Leah is an exceptional hostess and everyone who come here have treats galore (at every level) in store. Thank you for everything and fingers crossed I shall return before too long.

    Marianne2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic little cottage, thoughtfully furnished with wonderful little luxuries like underfloor heating and local dairy products/baked goods. Leah was always prompt in her replies and all the home instructions were clear. Excellent base to explore the area, we’ll be back!

    Shelly2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Basically- Leah’s place is a dream fairy cottage. Such a cute home, so fabulously located- I fully recommend this fantastic place as a weekend break. Leah is a brilliant host, great communication and such a thoughtful person... milk and breakfast things were all left for us. Shaftesbury is a lovely place that you’ve probably never visited but now this cottage gives you reason to go

    Tim2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned from a perfect weekend at 2 Love Lane. From the time of booking until arrival Leah communicated very well, and the cottage was more than we hoped! Fresh bread, milk, eggs and Dorset apple cake on arrival. A jug of narcissi, beautiful Neals Yard toiletries, a fire ready to light, and the comfiest bed! This cottage is a hidden gem, peaceful, so quiet, with views to die for. A very short stroll in to town, where you’ll find bars and restaurants and the gorgeous Botanical candle company, to pick up a little treat! Golds Hill is literally just around the corner, the place to work off the cake! Leah has thought of everything, local information and guides, beautiful books, current magazines and if you have children, all the toys and books they could ever want.....there really isn’t any need to leave the cottage. Thank you Leah for a perfect weekend away from it all, we will be back xxxxx

    Charlotte2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly magical cottage. Cosy is a great description for it - ideal for a couple. It is lovingly and thoughtfully furnished and equipped to the very highest standard with everything you could possibly need to ensure you focus your stay on relaxing and enjoying the area! Leah was an outstanding host asking us what we needed before we arrived - local milk, eggs, bread and other goodies to make us feel truly welcome! The bed was very comfortable, and there were many, many small touches I have never before seen from an AirBnB host. She had even set the fabulous log fire for us to light on arrival! We loved it and hope to return later this year! Well done Leah.

    Stephen2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, cosy, tastefully furnished and clean little cottage, very close to the town centre and Gold Hill. We stayed five nights over the Christmas period and Leah, our host, had added so many extra touches such as a Christmas tree and decorations, a hamper and local produce, to make everything feel very festive. The bed was comfortable and the quiet location ensured a great nights sleep. There are lovely walks on the doorstep, with beautiful views. The town can be easily reached by foot in 5/10 minutes with a good variety of shops, cafes and pubs. We would love to visit Shaftesbury again and would definitely stay at Leah's cottage.

  • This cottage has loads of character and is really comfortable to chill out in. The lay out is fantastic, particularly with the dining room at the back. The bathroom is really modern for a cottage like this, and the bed is exceptionally comfy!

  • Such a cozy quaint place to stay in close proximity to all that you need for a few days away. Great dog walks close by followed by a roaring fire to relax in for a cozy warm evening.

    Stuart2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had wonderful stay at the townhouse. It was very atmospheric and authentic. We loved spending long evenings in front of the fire place. Caroline was a very wonderful and accommodating host. She left some treats & poo bags for our dog Matt. She also gave us plenty of privacy. It was a lovely experience staying right in the old city centre. All amenities are close and some wonderful walks near by. Kitchen very well equipped and lovely big bath in the bathroom. If you are visiting with a big dog please bare in mind staircase is really steep and slippery. Our one couldn’t tackle them but was happy enough downstairs.

I highly recommend Wingmore for anyone visiting Stonehenge and surrounding attractions, or just looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

COVID-19 - Free use for NHS staff The Yellow House is a delightful slice of history. Nestled within the heart of the Saxon old town of Shaftesbury, this bright and charming grade II listed 1 bedroom cottage offers a home to all. On the boarder between the Blackmore Vale and Cranbourne Chase, Shaftesbury is a perfect springboard into the depths of Dorset woods and Wiltshire's Nadder valley. The cottage offers basic amenities including teas, coffees, and milk on the day of arrival. Henry
The house would perfectly suit a couple. There are two woodburners with plenty of wood in the small garden that can be used, or central heating if preferred. Be aware there are lots of original features including low beams, chalk painted walls and lime render. Therefore please do not expect a pristine decor :) clean and characterful is more the look. The oak wardrobe in the bedroom provides ample storage for clothing, with another cupboard beneath the stairs for coats and bags. There is a shower and a bath, feel free to use the candles, lotions and potions displayed. You can bring pets, (as long as they don't have sharp claws :) as I just fitted solid oak flooring downstairs.
Shaftesbury is a wonderful quaint Saxon hiltop town. Teeming with history, the remains of the abbey, Gold Hill and the the Town Hall are a definitely worth a visit. There so many fantastic places to walk, run or climb. Whether it be around the local area or on the Dorset coast. Please feel free to ask for some suggestions! • A delightful cottage right in the heart of Shaftesbury. We had so much fun and Angie was the most welcoming host. After we had checked out, we realised we had forgotten something and Angie was so helpful in sorting it out for us. Couldn’t fault the stay. Thank you!

    Jennifer2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Dorset and loved the quirkiness of this property. Henry was very easy to deal with and quick to respond. Worth mentioning that we were staying at a cold time of year and the property stayed nice and warm for us. Recommend the Ship just around the corner for a drink.

    Fergus2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Henry and Angie for a wonderful stay! It was such a delightfully cosy and interesting place to stay. The life contained within your cottage oozes from every artefact, it was a welcoming place to snuggle down with the woof after a long day walking. You will not stay anywhere with more character and charm!

  • Henry’s cottage is great! Just as cute as the photos! Cosy, great bath, lots of books to read, plenty of wood for the roaring log burners! We loved it :) It was clean, with several thoughtful touches to make it easier for guests... Milk, butter, tea, coffee, etc etc. We had such a great welcome by Angie too. She explained everything really clearly, was helpful and had thought out particular places for us to visit/eat at for our anniversary. Shaftesbury is so beautiful too. We had a great time!

The house is a striking property between the railway and the river and a minutes walk from the lovely high street of Tisbury. A former railway hotel, the house has bags of character with bright rooms and high ceilings. The double bedroom is comfortable and light with a King size bed and right next to the bathroom for your convenience. We are still in the midst of renovations but this will have no impact on your stay. You will love the location, the quiet and the green spaces on our doorstep.
The bedroom is at the back of the House and we sleep at the front so you will have lots of privacy. Although we are quite close to the railway there are only two trains an hour and they stop about 11pm. We really don't notice them only sometimes when a vintage steam engine thunders past but that is very very rare. If you open your window you will hear the river down below the house and on a Saturday the muffled shouts of football players in the field on the other side of the river but that is about as noisy as it gets. It really is very peaceful. If there is more in your party than two I have another room listed which I only let to friends travelling together as they have to share the bathroom with you. Let me know if you are interested in also booking the adjoining double room and I will unblock it.
If you are planning to come to Tisbury by train for a weekend wedding or just an overnighter we couldn't be in a more convenient location. Lots of local sights like Messums Art Gallery are within walking distance and Tisbury High Street has a lovely Cafe called Beaton's and a great wine bar/shop called the Bottle Shop. There is also a convenient small Co op and a Boots and the rest are all interesting independent shops including a deli. There are some super places to eat within a five mile radius like The Beckford Inn, Pitt House and Howards House Hotel but a car will be needed (or bike) and reservations advised. If you want to visit Salisbury we are twenty minutes away by train and as the House is so close to the station it couldn't be easier. If you want to you can pick up a coach at Salisbury station to visit Stone Henge, again very convenient and easy. We are just eleven miles from the historic town of Shaftesbury which is always worth a visit and if you want to explore North Dorset and Hardy country that is all within a short driving distance.
  • This is a great place to stay, I have stayed here 4 times since September last year, which is in itself a recommendation. Each time I have been made so welcome by Julie-Ann & George. Though compact Tisbury is a great place for finding delicious or useful and beautiful things. I can recommend Genius Coffee & Beaton’s for food and drinks (the home cooked mini croissant delivered from the oven at Genius on Saturday morning were fantastic!). And excellent locally roasted coffee too. Tisbury Deli is great for different cheeses and other nice things to eat and you can buy a beautiful hand thrown pottery plate to eat them from just a step away from the Deli! I can also recommend a visit to Messums in Wiltshire tithe barn gallery, and the café there is certainly up to the standard of the other places to eat and drink!

The Bakehouse has everything you need for a self contained stay, is cosy and comfy and is in a great location for exploring the town (it’s close to the bottom of Gold Hill of the Hovis ad fame) and the surrounding countryside. There are lots of nice touches including a super breakfast and Lyn is a very friendly helpful and informative host. We would thoroughly recommend the Bakehouse.

  • My wife and I were planning on going to Stonehenge. We found Sarah’s place last minute and couldn’t of been more pleased. She is running a top notch operation in the most beautiful little town in the country. We would stay here again in a heart beat. Sarah is super friendly and our room was very comfortable for weary travelers. I couldn’t recommend this place more.
